Captain Sensible – Salah the favourite but Man United options overlooked

After Double Gameweek 25 caused a great divide in the Fantasy Premier League world, managers have been reunited on one issue for Gameweek 26.

It already looks as if Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah (£13.6m) will be the obvious captain candidate this weekend, but we need more than a poll result to determine if he’s the best option.

We have analysed all the potential options for the armband so that Fantasy Football Scout members can see the results…

Captain Poll

Despite blanks in both of his last two matches, Salah has returned to the summit of the Fantasy Football Scout captain poll. He heads into Gameweek 26 backed by 54% of the voters, 37% more than any other option. Bournemouth are the next visitors to Anfield, having conceded 20 goals in their last seven away trips.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (£11.2m) is a long way off in second place as owners of Sergio Aguero (£11.4m) consider him as the ideal replacement with Blank Gameweek 27 looming large. 17% of our voters have backed the Arsenal man ahead of a trip to Premier League basement boys Huddersfield Town.

Even further behind the top two are Manchester United pair Marcus Rashford (£7.8m) and Paul Pogba (£8.7m), who will face Fulham at Craven Cottage on Saturday lunch-time. The former looks more popular for Gameweek 26 with a 7% share, while Pogba is just behind on 5.32%.

Interestingly, next up on the list is Aleksandar Mitrovic (£6.5m), who will also play in the same fixture. He has 2% of the vote, the same amount as Salah’s Liverpool colleague Sadio Mané (£9.5m), who has outscored him by 24 points to 19 over the last three Premier League matches.

Aguero leads a list of options under 2%, with 1.6% of voters looking to captain the Manchester City talisman for their big match against Chelsea on Sunday.

He is just ahead of Son Heung-min (£8.8m) on 1.5% and Raúl Jiménez (£6.7m) on 1.13%.

      If you’re contemplating running through 31/3 with Fh in 32 then it’s BC.

      Fanderson has some great fixtures coming up and could be key in 27.

      Mane if you want cover for Salah in Liverpool attack and, like me, you definitely don’t want double Liverpool defence.

      Son got a late one v Newcastle but. The chances are Burnley away and Leicester are going to be just as awkward and then you’re looking at big Derbies that fall in a really busy fixture schedule. Very unpredictable.

    I have 1FT left this week. My current thoughts are hold onto it, keeping Sane, Richarlison and Ings (benched). The plan is to bring in Jota/Anderson for Richarlison and Rondon/Barnes for Ings. Do I just leave my team alone, take the 2FT for GW27 decisions and do them transfers then? I will probably lose some value, but more time to think and deliberate.

        So I want to get rid, but I am happy with the team I can field now for this GW. It is one that can wait, which allows me to have 2FT for new info coming out on blanks. Then the player I move him to will be more clear.

            He will be, but there is the chance I move him to somebody that doesn't fit my strategy for navigating the blanks and the DGW. My team is strong enough until more info is available. I am more puzzled by the Richarlison move. Currently thinking to leave that one too, but triple Wolves is tempting.

                Untrue. I hadnt brought him in but stats showed how very very poor Everton are at defending set pieces. And Laporte is City’s main threat at set pieces, with headers. Btw he came very close to scoring a brace...

                Id argue that Aguero owners were luckier than Laporte owners. Kun was dead certain to start one, not both, because of Jesus v good form AND quick succession of games (he played 160 and now it’s Chelsea then CL!). While it made sense to bring in Aguero in for that DGW, two starts and a hat trick vs Arsenal was clearly unexpected.

                Have had Laporte ever since he started making first team appearence on a regular basis. Was good at first with the consistent CS. But then was frustrating to own for some time when city were conceding left and right. Now more than happy to own him.

                                I've been there man.

                                Regarding your team, which looks good by the way, I can't really see any upgrades for the money.
                                Fabianski, Sane, and Digne are the players I want gone, but I'd rather keep the funds to upgrade Auba to Kane in a few weeks.

                              What happened to Valencia?
                              I genuinely thought last season he was one of the best right backs in the country, fast, strong, gave 100% every game, not the best crosser, considering he was a converted winger as well, but surprised he's fallen so far down the pecking order.
