Captains

Captain Sensible – Salah the favourite but Man United options overlooked

After Double Gameweek 25 caused a great divide in the Fantasy Premier League world, managers have been reunited on one issue for Gameweek 26.

It already looks as if Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah (£13.6m) will be the obvious captain candidate this weekend, but we need more than a poll result to determine if he’s the best option.

We have analysed all the potential options for the armband so that Fantasy Football Scout members can see the results…

Captain Poll

Despite blanks in both of his last two matches, Salah has returned to the summit of the Fantasy Football Scout captain poll. He heads into Gameweek 26 backed by 54% of the voters, 37% more than any other option. Bournemouth are the next visitors to Anfield, having conceded 20 goals in their last seven away trips.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (£11.2m) is a long way off in second place as owners of Sergio Aguero (£11.4m) consider him as the ideal replacement with Blank Gameweek 27 looming large. 17% of our voters have backed the Arsenal man ahead of a trip to Premier League basement boys Huddersfield Town.

Even further behind the top two are Manchester United pair Marcus Rashford (£7.8m) and Paul Pogba (£8.7m), who will face Fulham at Craven Cottage on Saturday lunch-time. The former looks more popular for Gameweek 26 with a 7% share, while Pogba is just behind on 5.32%.

Interestingly, next up on the list is Aleksandar Mitrovic (£6.5m), who will also play in the same fixture. He has 2% of the vote, the same amount as Salah’s Liverpool colleague Sadio Mané (£9.5m), who has outscored him by 24 points to 19 over the last three Premier League matches.

Aguero leads a list of options under 2%, with 1.6% of voters looking to captain the Manchester City talisman for their big match against Chelsea on Sunday.

He is just ahead of Son Heung-min (£8.8m) on 1.5% and Raúl Jiménez (£6.7m) on 1.13%.

It is illegal for arsenal to keep a clean sheet. They even conceded home to Cardiff. Kola will have to get an attacking return

    B) Torreira (hud)
    C) Koscielny (hud)
    D) Tarkowski (bri)

Babel the most attacking player but MUN seem to have improved their defence. Kos was ill but trained yesterday. Torreira DM but scored vs HUD in the previous game and Brighton score at home but Tark has attacking threat (3 goals already). Any help appreciated.

Is anyone else potentially looking at planning to BB in DGW32?

I’m keen to FT my way there and FH in 31 then WC in 34/35 (TC already used in 25) but seems most are determined to BB in 35...

Only wishing to BB in 35 due to WC in 34, so will be FH in DGW32.

my plan as well...enough time to use FT to create a full DGW32 team, and use FH in 31.

Probably take a hit to field a (good) team in BGW33 though

Yes agreed, also enough time to get in enough players likely to play in both 32 and 33 with a bit of luck.

are you realistically going to have 15 starters in both games for GW32? Because that's what the WC offers

Fair question but yes I think so, albeit for -8 or possibly -12 across the next 5-6 weeks which I can live with as this would also cover 11 starters in 33. Understand that the WC is a nice reset to avoid the headache, and all this obviously depends on the FA Cup, but given the comparative strength of teams likely to play in 31 vs 32, I’d rather fill up on those playing in 32 rather than 31 between now and said gameweeks.

Anyone willl be lucky to call 15 starters in 32 or 11 double starters. There’s gojng to be a tonne of rotation and Pep roulette in all likelihood.

    Fab
    Robbo - AWB - Pereira
    Sane - Pogba - Salah - Haz - Son
    Jimenez - Rashford

    Bennett - Digne - Kamara

    A) Sane > Mane (Worried not owning Auba)
    B) Haz > Mane (Worried not owning Auba)
    C) Haz + Kamara > Hayden + Auba (-4) (Will mean I have Sane)

IMO the argument is that HUD has conceded the most goals over the last four home matches to: SOU (3), BUR (2), MCI (3), and EVE (1). However, Auba's track record for away matches is not very appealing, only one goal in his last four away matches.

But that’s two goals a game - not haul territory and Arsenal generally look useless away from home.

Unless you captain him he needs to outscore Kun, who’s at home by two, to justify a hit - that’s my calculation.

Doesn’t surprise me. They’ve become hesitant going forward. They used to play the ball quickly forward and drive towards goal...now they seem to be overthinking it and not playing to their strengths.

I bet if you could find a stat for sideways and backwards passes for the last four they’d be right up there as well.

No mention of Watford's team defending stats in the article? I was trying to decide whether to move Siggy for Mane / TAA or hold for this week and roll the FT into GW27 when we have more information. The defensive stats table and Joe's goals imminent have swayed me into keeping him.

Just listened to FFS's "Captaincy"-video, where Jonty mentioned Firmino being listed as the forward most likely to return points this GW (according to some data-analysis-program he has or something).

Heat maps are not Firmino's friend. That said Auba mania is based on Chelsea scoring 5 against Hudd at home

Would you be more annoyed if you cost yourself 4points and then Firmino scored or if you did nothing and Auba scored? Personally I'd be more annoyed at the former.

I think it's too risky. If Auba was 100% fit and it was at home I might consider it. However Firminio at home to a side that concede a lot on the road, for a hit doesn't seem like it will pay you back.

    a) Aguero -> Aubameyang

    or

    b) Sané -> Mané

    ?

(Will probably do the other transfer next GW). Was thinking a) for this GW, as Huddersfield are rubbish, but the news of Aubameyang's illness has me worried.

That’s also my question. I’m not sure.

Auba away record lately is rubbish. Illness is a blessing
