How the Top 10k are looking ahead of Blank Gameweek 27

The top 10,000 managers in Fantasy Premier League have joined the rest of us in moving en masse for Son Heung-min (£8.8m).

The Spurs midfielder was snapped up by just over 550,000 FPL managers in the run-up to Gameweek 26 – that’s almost twice as many transfers in as the next-most-bought player of this weekend.

A look at the most-owned players among the top 10k (see below) reveals that Son is the only change to the “template” squad from the previous Gameweek, with Leroy Sane (£9.6m) unsurprisingly making way.

Mohamed Salah (£13.6m) remains the most-owned player in the top 10,000, followed by Marcus Rashford (£7.8m) – who was benched at Craven Cottage earlier today – and Aaron Wan-Bissaka (£4.6m).

The above template squad features four players who blank in Gameweek 27 – namely Lucas Digne (£5.3m), Richarlison (£6.7m), Eden Hazard (£10.9m) and Sergio Aguero (£11.4m).

The front eight players in the above graphic match those in the overall most-owned squad, as pictured below:

Marcos Alonso (£6.5m), Ederson (£5.6m), Virgil van Dijk (£6.5m) and Alisson (£6.0m) are the four names that differ; Alonso and Ederson being two more players without a fixture in Gameweek 27.

Son for Sane and Raul Jimenez (£6.7m) for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (£11.2m) are the two changes from Gameweek 25.

There unsurprisingly hasn’t been a great deal of chip activity this weekend, though we may see a very minor spike in the usage of the free hit chip in Gameweek 27 among those Fantasy managers whose squads are overloaded with Manchester City, Everton and Chelsea assets.

Just over 17% of managers inside the top 10,000 have used their free hit chip already.

Over 75% of managers in the top 10k have their triple captain chip still to play, while a similar number also have their second wildcard still to burn.

Bench boost remains the least-used chip among these high-performing Fantasy managers.

The overall picture, meanwhile, looks as follows:

Almost exactly one in five managers inside the top 10k in FPL have used two or more of their chips already this season (see below).

Just over 50% of the top 10,000 Fantasy bosses are still yet to use a single chip, however.

The overall situation shows a similar spread, though an increased 27.4% have used two or more of their chips as of Gameweek 26:

Switching our attention back to Gameweek 26, the top 10k largely backed Salah for the armband ahead of his eight-point return against Bournemouth.

The 2.27% who captained Paul Pogba (£8.7m) will be sitting pretty on 32 points once bonus is added, while a similar number captained Aubameyang and will be relying on their vice-captain for points (Pogba being a popular choice) after the Gabonese forward’s no-show at Huddersfield.

The overall Gameweek 26 captaincy picture is not quite as straightforward, as one would perhaps expect given the varying degrees of involvement further down the rankings and with those managers perhaps having less to lose by backing a differential captain.

You can view more Gameweek 26 stats on Ragabolly’s site here.

My newly minted ML leader got cocky - captained Groß. Meanwhile my benching headache solved itself with Auba and Rashford not playing. Hoping Danilo does now...

Not a bad week so far, but annoyed that every time I actually need my bench (e.g. this week with Rashford being out) I have a selection of 1 and 2 pointers.

Every time I don't need the bench, I have a 6 pointer there (either AWB or Westwood)

Does anyone think it would be fairer if bench points were halved? It seems there is huge luck involved.

At the moment which of Alonso to Pereira/TAA or Sane to Mane looks better? 1FT

    Fabs Boruc
    Robertson Alonso** Doherty AWB Bednarek
    Salah Sane** Pogba Son Camarasa
    Auba Jimenez Rashford

--Not a great first impression from Rashford, oof
--Auba out incredibly frustrating too today, hopefully back next week. Long term not sure about him though...
--Salah so close to a haul! Ugh
--Sane probably needs to go but then no City players in my team...

Having nominated Jimenez as this week's captain, I'd be so bold as to say that if you left the armband on him until gameweek 30 it wouldn't be the worst decision made. In fact, it takes the stress out of the process.

    Newcastle (H) - ----definitely winnable

    Bournemouth (a) - winnable

    Huddersfield (a) - -definitely winnable

Most defenders you look for defensive returns and attacking ones are a bonus. Would look at kola the opposite. Still a good option going forward

Hard to disagree but Kola spends a lot of time in opponents' box

54 (-4). Aguero, Jimenez, Son and Doherty to play.

    Kola forgotten about already.

Who needs the win more tomorrow CHE or MCI?

Chelsea will lose their grip on top 4 if they lose... GWK 36 vs United may be for CL place

hoping for a nice score draw myself - Willian G and Sane G, 1-1

However in real life terms, CHE need it more I reckon.

In the last four GWs Anderson actually regressed in most stats compared to the previous four GWs.

People prefer Pereira or TAA, and why?

Leaning towards Pereira myself - better fixtures, sometimes played OOP, and leaves a Liverpool spot open (have the standard Salah+Robbo) in case I decide I want to do Sane to Mane as well...

trent attacking stats are comparable (favourable if anything) and liverpool xg conceded significantly better than leicester. liverpool have best defensive record in league with good fixtures and no forthcoming blanks. only reason not own both is if you are tripled up on lfc elsewhere.

cheers mate. was thinking i may do sane to mane but if mane rises (almost definitely will) will be priced out - and im not doing an early transfer for that.

so in that case wouldnt be tripled up, and may well do alonso to trent

I don’t think I could make much of a case to change your mind. The logic is there. Personally, would take the better player in better team but there is no denying leic fixtures look attractive and some cover is a good move

Tough. Taa has been frustrating to own with his injuries/previous benchings. Pereira is a great pick for all the reasons you said. Even still I’d prefer taa as long as you have 1-2 decent options on the bench Incase he doesn’t play. I just don’t trust Leicester

very few benchings and only when gomez/lovren both fit.

Watch the 15 min after he came on, almost scored, almost assisted and he and salah ran circles around the def. and he didnt even take any set pieces yet.... im scared not to own him, buying next for sure

I’ve been somewhat absent from these forums for quite a few weeks now, so apologies if this topic has already been exhausted.

Next season, I’m assuming Salah will be reclassified as a striker and priced around £12-14m depending on how he finishes this season. Will you be investing? Me, I prefer the idea of Firmino being an £8/9m midfielder.

Thought so last year, but dont think they will change him

everyone moving towards variation of 4-3-3 has meant that wide players in modern systems exist somewhere between traditional view of a midfielder/striker. and while current approach of categorising players like salah, hazard or sterling as midfielders is clearly inaccurate, classing them as strikers doesn't feel quite right either.

I feel like Salah has played as a number 9 for Liverpool all season. Hazard and Sterling occasionally fill in there, but Salah is consistently the furthest player forward for his team. Firmino plays behind him.

I personally think reclassification is inevitable.

he has in a relative sense but he's not a number 9 in the classic sense at all, it's a very fluid system in which he'll move wide and deep at times even when playing centrally. how you categorise this i have no idea

He probably should be reclassified. It’s a difficult one for the fantasy games, that club managers can move players around throughout the season. but once the fantasy game is set, players are a set position.

It’s one thing this site has always given users an advantage of recognising when players are playing out of position, both positive and negative.
