Live Hall of Fame update: leader Sean Tobin up to seventh in the world

The lull in proceedings ahead of FA Cup fifth round weekend has given us the chance to analyse our recently updated Live Hall of Fame and study the team set-ups of those managers who feature in the top ten.

This ranking system is applied to everyone who takes part in either of our Fantasy Premier League mini-leagues (free or members), with managers’ performances over the seasons then tracked to give a Hall of Fame (HoF) rating.

The live version has been updated to take into account Gameweek 26’s results and can be viewed by Members via this link.

Further information on the FFS Hall of Hame is included at the bottom of this article, but alternatively, you can view this movie to listen to Mark and the excellent Rate My Team’s Chris Atkinson discuss the feature.

The career version, which shows the standings at the end of last season, is free to view here or via the HoF tab on the home page.

2017/18 Career HoF Top Ten: Where are they now?

Four of the Fantasy managers who featured in the top ten of our Career Hall of Fame standings at the end of the 2017/18 remain in the list in our Live Hall of Fame rankings: namely Mark Sutherns (now 2nd), Grant Barclay (3rd), Matthew Jones (5th) and Marlen Rattiner (9th).

Richard Clarke sits just outside this elite list in 11th place, while Jay Egersdorff, Owen Walker, Paul Gee, Lester Cheng and Ville Rönkä drop to a still-commendable 90th, 41st, 27th, 184th and 26th respectively.

Live HoF Top Ten: New Entrants

By new entrants, we refer to those managers who sit in our Live Hall of Fame top ten and who didn’t feature in our corresponding Career Hall of Fame list at the end of 2017/18.

Sean Tobin has been catapulted to number one in our Live HoF and is enjoying a phenomenal season in FPL, currently sitting in seventh place in the world.

Sean’s previous best finish was 923rd back in 2014/15, though he has four other top 5,000 overall ranks to his name in the last seven seasons.

Stephen Harrap is well placed for his first ever top 1k finish, with his current rank of 186th enough to lift him to fourth in our Live HoF standings.

Aleksander Våge Nilsen (7th in our Live HoF), Fabio Borges (8th) and Alan Day (10th) are separated by only three FPL points and 88 places, with each manager well inside the top 1,000 in the world.

Rick Beamish (6th), who has four previous top 1k finishes to his name and who currently sits in 6,444th place in FPL, makes up our Live HoF top ten.

Live HoF Top Ten: Chip Usage

Three members of our Live HoF – Grant, Stephen and Aleksander – used their Triple Captain chip in Gameweek 25.

Grant made a 25k jump in the FPL overall rankings thanks to his backing of Sergio Aguero, while Stephen leapt from 1,124th to 211th by handing the Argentinean striker the armband.

Aleksander didn’t enjoy such luck, with his chip being deployed on Leroy Sane for the German winger’s now infamous one-pointer.

The seven other managers in our top ten retain their Triple Captain chips, while all ten bosses have their second Wildcard, Bench Boost and Free Hit chips available.

There was a real spread in the deployment of the first Wildcard, with Mark and Rick using theirs as early as Gameweek 3 and Stephen waiting until Gameweek 20 to activate his.

Live HoF Top Ten: Player Selection

Only two players are owned by all of our top ten: Mohamed Salah and Paul Pogba.

Stephen is the only one of this dectet who doesn’t own Matt Doherty or Marcus Rashford.

Sean is blazing a trail for those who prefer heavy hitters in attack, owning all three of Rashford, Aguero and Roberto Firmino.

Sean’s cheapest forward, Rashford, is the most expensive striker in the frontlines of Mark, Aleksander and Fabio.

Marlen is the only one of our top ten who owns a premium goalkeeper – that being Ederson.

Seven of our elite managers still own Richarlison, three retain Eden Hazard in their squads, while Grant still has Leroy Sane on his books as of Gameweek 26.

Marlen, Grant and Sean have all made transfers already ahead of Gameweek 27, however.

Most popular FPL assets in our Live HoF top ten:

10 – Paul Pogba, Mohamed Salah
9 – Matt Doherty, Marcus Rashford
8 – Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Son Heung-min
7 – Lukasz Fabianski, Richarlison
6 – Andrew Robertson, Lucas Digne, Sergio Aguero
4 – David Button, Aboubakar Kamara
3 – Ben Hamer, Jan Bednarek, Danny Ings, Eden Hazard, Raul Jimenez, Sadio Mane

Team value seems to be important to our elite group of ten managers: all bar Stephen have a squad value over £105.0m, with Sean’s 15 players now worth £107.6m (plus £0.1m in the bank) at the time of writing.

Four of our Live HoF top ten have already filmed Meet the Manager episodes with Joe and these videos can be watched via the links below:

Hall of Fame FAQ

How is my rating calculated?
The “HoF Rating” is based on your points scores from previous FPL seasons, with the latest season weighted the heaviest and each corresponding season weighted at roughly 80% that of the previous season. So, in other words, those who performed best in 2017/18 will receive a bigger HoF Rating boost from those who did best in 2007/08. The “HoF Ranking” even allows for those with missing years, adapting the formula accordingly to allow to rank alongside the veterans of the FPL.

How do I join the Hall of Fame
Simply sign up to our leagues next season, either the Fantasy Football Scout Classic League or if you’re a member, the Members Classic League – the code is available on the dashboard of the Members Area.

How do I find myself in the Hall of Fame?
The search box at the top of the ranking tables allows you to search by surname or by FPL id.

What if I don’t want to be listed?
Either notify us via support@fantasyfootballscout.co.uk or simply leave the Fantasy Football Scout league and you’ll be removed on the next update.

When does the Hall of Fame get updated?
The Career table is available to all and is updated at the end of each season to display the latest rankings. The Live version of the Hall of Fame is updated throughout the season to reflect the scores of the current campaign.

I know it’s Chelsea and it’d be away but I’d want to save Luiz if they go out of the cup for that Everton game in 31.

Everton are in free fall and can’t defend a set piece to save their lives - Luiz header perhaps?

And well Chelsea have Fulham in 29 don’t they?

Did anyone see a tweet by Aleksander Vage Nilsen yesterday?

he mentioned that if aguero plays schalke and league cup final then he could potentially be dropped for West ham and Watford at home, this would be a disaster if you bring him in considering he doesnt perform as well away.

    anyone have any thoughts?

Th LC final is 3 days before West Ham, so rotation is of course a risk for West Ham

Then Kun has 3 away games in 4 after that

The away thing isn't an issue - he's returned in 4 of his last 5. When you mix that with his consistently good home form, he's gold.

14 goals 5 assists at home
          3 goals 2 assists away

Will that continue? Who knows... but it’s been noticeable season to date

But the West Ham game comes directly after 2 important cup games, the Watford game comes 3 days before a second leg CL knockout game... plus 3 blanks in seven GW’s 27, 31 & 33 point towards skipping him - with a FH to get him in & out in DGW32 potentially an option, but even then his minutes are gong to be under threat

I see where you're coming from, but they faced some very difficult away games earlier in the season - Liverpool, Spurs, Wolves, Arsenal etc - returns were always going to be limited.

If you look at the last few, ones in which you'd expect him to do well, he has 2 goals, 2 assists and 3 bonus in 5 games. I think that's a better indication of what to expect from Aguero going forward, especially when you look at their remaining away fixtures - Bournemouth, Man Utd, Fulham, Palace, Burnley, Brighton.

Add in his incredible home form and the fact they are in a proper title race, and its so dangerous to go without him even for a few weeks IMO.

Re rotation, it was exactly this line of thought that stopped many bringing him in for his DGW. You'd expect him to start against Schalke and Chelsea in the cups, but we don't know this for sure. It wouldn't be surprise me if City are pretty much through by the time they get to the 2nd leg of the CL anyway.

I agree mate. I'm looking at Sterling and Aguero double up and it won't be for everyone. Mainly due to fear of rotation.

Lots of ifs and buts there 🙂

The facts thouh - In those last 5 you select as an illustration of his prowess away from home - he has 4 points at Leicester (fail), 5 points at Southampton (fail), 5 points at Huddersfield (fail) , 2 points at Everton (fail)

He is noticeably less productive away from home

We know he’s good at home, but even the great Sergio can’t score points from the bench v West Ham & Watford if Pep decides to play him in the 3 important cup games before and after them.

Throw in 3 blanks in next 7 & as I said above - murky waters ahead

I haven't mentioned his 'prowess' away from home anywhere, my point is you buy Aguero for his home and away form. He's delivered 40 odd points over his last five home fixtures, and 25 over his last five away ones. If that's classed as a fail you have high standards.

I think we should be careful thinking the cup games are more important than the league ones too. They're still chasing Liverpool and IMO it's impossible to say if he'll be benched for West Ham and Watford.

The Newcastle game was fine, he got 9 points. But 4 of his last 5 away fixtures have been fails, and 10 of his last 11 away games have been fails.

                  Arsenal 2 (Fail)
                  Wolves 2 (Fail)
                  Cardiff 6 (Fail)
                  Liverpool 1 (Fail)
                  Spurs 2 (Fail)
                  West Ham 2 (Fail)
                  Leicester 4 (Fail)
                  Southampton 5 (Fail)
                  Huddersfield 5 (Fail)
                  Newcastle 9 (Success)
                  Everton 2 (Fail)

Its understandable the hype train is in full flow after consecutive home hattricks - and if we knew he was guaranteed to start both West Ham & Watford, he'd be in everyone's team... but unfortunately he's not guaranteed.

Equally he's not guaranteed to continue failing in away games, so it could yet end up fine owning him from 28 onwards...

I'm still undecided, but FH32 is what I'm leaning towards currently taking all of these factors into account

I think it's safe to say we have differing views on what a fail is, I certainly wouldn't put Cardiff, Southampton or Huddersfield in that category, especially when they are followed by home scores of 8, 6 and 9. At the risk of repeating myself, I'm not concerned with the blanks against Arsenal, Wolves, Liverpool, Spurs etc, you can't score every game, even Salah has failed to return at Arsenal, Spurs, City and Chelsea.

I'm also looking at using the FH in 32, think it makes most sense at the moment but I'll wait to see what happens in the FA Cup before committing.

If you aren't going with Aguero 28-30, who are you thinking? Auba has a couple of tough games, as does Kane.

If we're being honest - 6 points at Cardiff was a fail for Kun there wouldn't have been a single owner who was happy, or who was not disappointed with that - and Southampton, Leicester & Huddersfield were worse.

Add away blanks against Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, Spurs, Everton, Wolves...

That's 30 points in those 10 away games - 10 away games isn't a gigantic sample size, but it's not small either - and for someone of Kun's ability - his poor form away from home sticks out like a sore thumb.

It's NOT guaranteed to continue obviously, but it's been very noticeable season to date.

Auba has a statistically fantastic GW28 - home to Bournemouth's defence, who have conceded 30 away season to date (worst in the league second only to Fulham) so selling him not an option... his last game against spurs he got 16 points so not a forgone conclusion that he would be sold in GW29, but I'm still undecided, much more information needed.

In particular Man City's League Cup Final starting Lineup - If Kun is benched, he'll be a much better option for GW28 & vice-versa - which circles all the way back to my original post:

The LC final is 3 days before West Ham, so rotation is of course a risk for West Ham

Then Kun has 3 away games in 4 after that

Some may have been underwhelmed by 6 at Cardiff, but it isn't a fail. At the end of the day, all I was trying to say his recent away form (2 goals, 2 assists in 5) is more of a indication of what to expect going forward. That paired with his devastating home form, and I think it could be a mistake going without him 28-30. That's the beauty of the game though, it's all opinions.

At the risk of repeating myself -his recent away form has been 4 fails in 5 games, so it doesn’t inspire confidence in his future away form.

It could change of course, but 30 points in those 10 away games is a stark indicator of how poor he has been away from home.

And at the risk of repeating myself again, with 3 blanks in his next 7, his 2 home games surrounded by important cup fixtures, and the 3 away games in 4 from GW28 onwards means it’s way too early to be getting carried away about Kun.

Much more info needed, particularly the champs league & LC final line ups, then we can see how things stand.

It's all speculation, and hardly a disaster if he misses one of those home games, especially if he hauls in the other one. It's this kind of thinking that trips up so many on here, just get him in after the blank.

Chasing a 120 point gap, thinking of bringing in Arnie as a differential and going abck to 3-4-3- too soon for Marko?

        Current team is:

        Lloris / Hamer

        VVD / AWB / Doherty / Jonny / Bednarek

        Salah / KDB / Pogba / Mane / McNeil

        Auba / Rashford / Kamara

This whole Ramos 'deliberate' yellow card antics just highlights to me that the rules are wrong.

Absolute joke rule which needs changing is this two yellow card/three yellow card thing whatever it is in the cup competitions

          Please choose replacement for Richarlison:
          A. Maddison

Think he's a cracking player and very easy on the eye. I think he'll do well now Tielemans has joined the midfield. Slight possibility he could get the penalties too (but can't see Vardy giving them up just yet)

If you’re not bothered about the Cup, Townsend is a great differential. On form he’s a way ahead of Fanderson who isn’t getting any shots in really.

His stats are good and passes my eye test but most of all Bat coming in makes him even more attractive.

Have the below players with no game next GWK:

            Ederson - Button - Digne - Richarlison - Brooks - Aguero

            Only have 1 FT.

            Thinking of doing:

            Button > Boruc
            Richarlison > Maddison/Anderson
            Digne > Pereira

Worth the -8? Or just do -4 and play without a keeper?

go without a keeper - you'll only play ederson long term anyway, so you've just got to think

              a) will boruc play?
              b) will he keep a clean sheet? otherwise not worth the -4 imo

                1) no city men?
                2) rashford rotation?
                3) double reds defender?
                4) CL rotation for reds?
                5) bonus from sterling and kun are much than bonus from my actual player?

FPL is now pretty much a 3 player game

You have template plus Periera, Felipe, Auba as your “three”

              Robbo, Doherty, ____
              Pogba, Salah, Son, _____
              Rash, Jimmy, ____

I did own Robertson for the first part of the season, removed him on my WC and haven't gone back since. Son I had from GW17, removed when he left for the Asian Cup and probably won't get him back in the near future. Jimenez I've never owned.

I've never owned Doherty, or Pogba.
Doherty I'm annoyed about as I had him in my team for ages in pre-season, and then they signed Traore and some thought he might take his place, so I switched to Boly last minute.

I've never had a luxury transfer available to bring in Pogba, and now he's too expensive.

I was wondering how so many people on here seem to have all these players in their teams, and I asked the other day how many hits people had taken this season, and the average answer was between 10 - 15 individual hits, I've done 3.

            not FPL related post

Those who watched UCL games , I just think Ajax were amazing in their gameplay, lost because of hard luck and some refereeing fault (my perspective) but their style of play was very good and time and again troubled madrid's defence .

I remember when they were among the favourites in the mid-90s, they lost the first leg of a knockout (I forget which round) 0-1 to Panathinaikos at home. This was huge news in Greece at the time.

Of course the return leg in Athens was a walloping, 0-3 I think it was to Ajax.

With the structure of european leagues, and the fact that everyone looks at the Ajax academy for young players, I'm not sure it'll ever happen again unfortunately.
Just hope these players realise their potential. Martin Odegaard anyone?

yes, unfortunately the Dutch Eredivisie can't compete with the bigger leagues anymore. Most of the players named above will probably be gone next season.

I'd say Siggy->someone like Jota or Fanderson is better and save a transfer

Does seem a waste of a transfer thought if I’m going to reverse it

                  Think I prefer jota

Away to an improved Burnley defense is not an easy fixture at all

Yep - the weekend will also be good as the blanks and doubles become clearer with each FA Cup game

            Robertson - Luiz - Digne - Doherty - AWB
            Salah - Sterling - Son - Pogba - Richarlison

Currently on Richarlison + Digne --> Maddison + Pereira

              Digne for Pereira is obvious
I don't like Maddison myself, i might even be tempted to make 1 transfer (the above) and roll the other

Who is the best GK going forward?

Had Patricio all this time so might as well stick with the fixtures turning good...

Stick until GW30 and then switch to Fab, Dub, Schmeichel or Boruc.

There is not a standout GK.

            Sane - stick or twist?

Thinking Sane to Fanderson this week, then Auba to Aguero next week/2 weeks time.

whisper it mate, but i think Sane might come back big.

I think, and obviously i'm trying to second guess Pep which is difficult, that he likes to give players 2/3 games off, or manage their minutes, before they get a 8/9 game run.

Difficult though - I don't rate many of the alternatives is the thing.

              Cheers

If Periera and Chilwell keep LB and RB I would go for the Chill. Perhaps I am biased because I will only have 5mil in the bank. Anyway will wait until wait in GW. Digne may get Newcastle, that guy is either gold or dust. I reckon might keep hold and reaccess but price rises / fall may force hand before then as would be priced out.

            RIP Eric Harrison.
Sir Alex Ferguson pays tribute to Eric Harrison:
“Eric's contribution to football and not just at Manchester United was incredible. When I came as manager I was lucky enough to have Eric on the staff as head of youth development.”
“I got to see the work he did and not just with the Class of 92 but with all the young players. He built character and determination in those young players and prepared them for the future.”
“He was a teacher, he gave these players a path, a choice and he only did that through his own hard work and sacrifice. He was able to impart that education to the young which made him one of the greatest coaches of our time.” #MUFC
