Latest on Son fitness as Llorente secures double-figure haul

Tottenham’s attacking assets continue to offer the potential for differential material after their comeback win over Watford.

Meanwhile, Wolves took advantage of a woefully out of form West Ham side at Molineux.

These two matches are the focus of our latest Scout Notes article.

Spurs 2-1 Watford

Goals: Son Heung-min (£8.6m), Fernando Llorente (£5.6m) | Craig Cathcart (£4.5m)

Assists: Llorente, Danny Rose (£5.8m)

Son Heung-min (£8.6m) put himself back on the FPL radar in a big way on Wednesday night as his energetic display inspired a much-needed comeback win for Spurs. The South Korean had only returned to England a few days before Gameweek 24 after his country unexpectedly crashed out of the Asian Cup to Qatar in the quarter-finals. Mauricio Pochettino had revealed that Son would likely be involved against Watford but couldn’t confirm if that would be from the beginning or as a substitute – in the end, he was named in the starting XI.

Despite all the comments both from the player and the manager about him being fatigued, Son produced another exciting and energetic performance, recording more sprints than any of his colleagues during the match (17). One of these was key for his goal, allowing him to connect with a loose-ball from Fernando Llorente (£5.6m). The South Korean also had more shots on goal than any other player at Wembley, playing himself into the transfer plans of many ahead of the Double Gameweek 25 meeting with Newcastle. At the time of writing, Son is the most transferred-in player in the build-up to Saturday’s deadline.

“He showed energy and I am so happy with his performance, but more happy because he showed massive commitment with the team and that is so important to tell everyone, because the energy that he spent and the commitment that he showed I think is a very good point to reward him with a lot of praise or praise from the coaching staff of the club.” – Mauricio Pochettino

Pochettino admitted after the game that he had not intended to leave Son on the pitch for the full 90 minutes, explaining that the circumstances forced his hand as Spurs tried to get back into the game. There has been some concern that Son came out of the win with an injury ahead of Double Gameweek 25, but Pochettino has since clarified that the South Korean was merely fatigued, understandably. As for his chances of playing against Newcastle, it appears he will be involved one way or the other, depending on how well he recovers.

“For me, it was too much (Son getting 90 minutes). It wasn’t the plan to play with him for the full 90 minutes but how the result was, you know in that moment I talked with Jesus [Perez] and I said maybe we need to take a little bit of a risk to keep him playing. He finished very tired, with some cramp. We’re going to see if he can recover for the next game, if he’s ok maybe he’s going to be in the starting XI, if not on the bench. For sure if we need him, he’s going to help the team. That’s one circumstance more.” – Mauricio Pochettino

Starting up front alongside Son in a 3-5-2 system was striker Llorente, who had something of a mixed evening. He missed two gilt-edged sitters, directing one effort over the bar with his knee from close-range and heading another into the side-netting four yards from goal. His assist for Son’s goal came from his inability to bring the ball under control too.

However, it was the Spaniard who scored the winner, ensuring that the headlines would be about his late heroics rather than his earlier mistakes. The fact that Llorente had more efforts in the penalty box than any other player, also jointly topping the chance creation charts, suggest he will continue to have decent chances to score points if he can hold down his place. At £5.6m he offers the potential for excellent value too. While Harry Kane (£12.4m) and Dele Alli (£8.9m) are both out his chances of playing alongside Son in a front two still look good. Those aforementioned quotes about the South Korean still imply enough doubt over whether he can start, so Llorente currently looks in a decent position to lead the line against Newcastle too.

“Also so happy because Fernando worked so hard, working the last four games with Harry Kane out, he’s working so hard for the team, to help the team to win three points today is a massive thing. Always it builds the confidence in a striker and more when you are competing with Harry Kane, or behind Harry Kane, one of the best strikers in the world, always it’s difficult. Always you need time. But in all this time he’s been a fantastic professional and always was pushing and helping the team.” – Mauricio Pochettino

Meanwhile, it was a poor game for Christian Eriksen (£9.4m) on a statistical level. Typically a creative hub for Spurs, he did not play a single key pass in the match while all three of his shots were outside of the penalty box and off-target.

Drawing attention to himself was Danny Rose (£5.8m), starting for the second match in a row while Ben Davies (£5.6m) is out injured. He provided the assist for Llorente’s late winner, level with the Spaniard at the top of the chance creation table for the match. The Englishman supplemented that with two efforts on goal, one in the box.

There was also the encouragement for Spurs to have Moussa Sissoko (£4.9m) back in the starting line-up for the first time since Gameweek 22. He initially played in a central midfield trio with Eriksen and Harry Winks (£5.5m), before slotting in at right-back for 25 minutes in between Serge Aurier (£5.8m) being hooked off at half-time and Kieran Trippier (£6.1m) coming on. A return of Sissoko’s typically high level of hard work will be good for Spurs moving forward, although it was him who Trippier replaced in the 69th minute, presumably to manage his minutes since coming back from a knock.

Curiously, Hugo Lloris (£5.4m) continues to make more mistakes in goal, having committed a string of blunders since that fumble in the World Cup final. He left himself in no man’s land when coming for Jose Holebas‘ (£4.8m) first-half corner, allowing Craig Cathcart (£4.5m) an open net in which to head an opening goal. As the club captain, it seems unlikely that Pochettino will consider dropping Lloris, although Paulo Gazzaniga (£4.5m) might be able to provide some competition given some decent displays in the cups this season.

Watford barely troubled Spurs’ goal outside of that 38th-minute opener, largely sitting back to defend at Wembley. Cathcart’s strike was the only effort on target the Hornets could muster, and they left the match with an expected goals score of just 0.46. That might tempt anyone with Brighton defensive options available to start them in Double Gameweek 25 when Javi Gracia’s men travel to the Amex Stadium.

As per usual, Watford lined up in a 4-4-2 system, with Gerard Deulofeu (£5.5m) and Troy Deeney (£6.0m) leading the line. There was a change in defence as Daryl Janmaat (£4.9m) came in for the injured Francisco Kiko Femenía (£4.2m), making his first start since Gameweek 20.

Defender Ben Wilmot (£4.0m) looked decent when he replaced Tom Cleverley (£5.0m), earning praise from Gracia. Cleverley’s departure was not injury-related, the midfielder simply tired according to the manager.

“Ben always plays well in my opinion. He is like a mature player. He is only 19 years old and he can play in different positions. Tom Cleverley was a little bit tired as the first half was very demanding. We wanted to be stronger in the middle, after the lateral crosses and defending set pieces. He was a good option in that moment when the game was very demanding. He is a very good player.” – Javi Gracia

Tottenham Hotspur XI (3-5-2): Lloris; Vertonghen (Lamela 79′), Sánchez, Alderweireld; Rose, Eriksen, Winks, Sissoko (Trippier 69′), Aurier (Moura 45′); Son, Llorente.

Watford XI (4-4-2): Foster; Holebas, Cathcart, Mariappa, Janmaat; Pereyra, Capoue, Cleverley (Wilmot 66′), Hughes; Deeney, Deulofeu (Success 61′).

Wolves 3-0 West Ham

Goals: Romain Saïss (£4.2m), Raúl Jiménez x2 (£6.5m)

Assists: Joao Moutinho x2 (£5.1m), Diogo Jota (£6.0m)

Raúl Jiménez (£6.5m) demonstrated his excellent Fantasy value once again with a brace against West Ham on Tuesday night. His 12-point haul should come as no surprise as he had more shots in the opposition penalty area than any other player on the pitch, five more than Diogo Jota (£6.0m).

The Mexican has proved to be quite a consistent source of points since arriving in English football, netting his seventh and eighth goal of the campaign at Molineux. Jiménez has now been involved in 15 league goals in 2018/19, more than any of his colleagues. Crucially, he has never gone longer than three matches without recording a goal or an assist, his driest spell of the campaign between Gameweeks 2 and 4. At £6.5m that level of consistency is truly remarkable and makes Jiménez a very important asset for Wolves’ continuing run of strong fixtures.

“Raúl is doing a fantastic job which goes beyond the goals he scores. The way he plays, his combinations, the way he works, he doesn’t stop – he is always giving us our first reaction to losing the ball. He has to keep on going.” – Nuno Espirito Santo

Amid transfer interest ahead of Gameweek 24, Jota could manage only an assist against West Ham but was still a key player. Trading in his explosive goal threat from the Leicester game, the former Porto man was more of a creator this time around, only Joao Moutinho (£5.1m) fashioning more opportunities than him on the night. That is excellent news for Jota’s 2.5% ownership though, as it proves how versatile the player is when it comes to Fantasy returns, while he is still operating in the front pair at Wolves.

Nuno Espirito Santo’s side completely dominated this 3-0 win over West Ham, registering 20 efforts on goal. Nine of those were on target, which was actually Wolves’ best tally in one match since being promoted from the Championship.

Much of their attacking player came from wide areas, where nearly a quarter of Fantasy managers were pleased to see Matt Doherty (£5.2m) restored to the side having been named on the bench against Leicester. The Irishman was his usual energetic self on the right, making more sprints than any of his colleagues in the first half. He was also unfortunate not to win a penalty in the opening 45 minutes when Arthur Masuaku (£4.3m) clattered into him in the box.

Returning to the left flank, Jonny (£4.3m) had the chance to put Wolves ahead in the first half after Jiménez’s perfectly delivered cross met him at the back post, but he was unable to convert. However, the Spaniard continues to offer plenty of threat on his side of the pitch.

“Sometimes you play well and don’t achieve. [Matt] Doherty and Jonny did well and had chances. It requires a lot of effort and a lot of heart to keep going up and down.” – Nuno Espirito Santo

The clean sheet that Wolves picked up on Tuesday night was their sixth of the campaign and their first one since Gameweek 17. However, that said more about West Ham than it did their hosts.

The Hammers were completely toothless in attack, mustering just four efforts on goal in the game, none in the box and none on target. Manuel Pellegrini’s team now looks a shadow of the side that won four matches in a row between Gameweek 14 and 17. They scored a total of 11 goals in that period, an average of 2.75 per game, but have now managed just one in their last three. The 3-0 defeat at Wolves was their third consecutive loss and was the worst possible result after they were embarrassed out of the FA Cup by League One strugglers AFC Wimbledon over the weekend.

Given how Pellegrini spoke about his side at the end of the game, we should expect there to be some changes in the West Ham side when they host Liverpool on Monday night. With the form they are in, Mohamed Salah‘s (£13.6m) captain credentials will be boosted despite his Gameweek 24 blank, while many will hold faith in their Liverpool defensive assets too.

“We were looking for a reaction after we lost against Wimbledon in the cup. We couldn’t do it and we have to review all we are doing, because something we are doing is bad. No shots on target and we conceded three goals, so it is impossible to play worse.” – Manuel Pellegrini

To rub salt in the wound, Marko Arnautovic (£6.9m) was taken off with an injury after what looked to be an innocuous challenge. He left Molineux on crutches and Manuel Pellegrini was not particularly positive about things. However, it must be pointed out that when Arnautovic was taken off, West Ham’s attacking threat hardly dropped as it had been pretty low at that point anyway.

“Not at this moment but I think it will not be an easy [good] injury. I hope that he doesn’t have any problems but he must have a medical examination tomorrow. It was a hard kick on his foot, we will see tomorrow. Yes (it is disappointing) and also because we have just 15 players that are playing too many games. We have no creative midfielder at the moment, Lanzini, Yarmolenko, Wilshere, Nasri are all out so it is difficult for a team playing so many games with the same 15 players. Maybe they are feeling a little bit the number of games and we still have nine players injured.” – Manuel Pellegrini

Wolves XI (3-5-2): Patrício; Saïss, Coady, Bennett; Jonny (Vinagre 90+2′), Moutinho (Gibbs-White 89′), Neves, Dendoncker, Doherty; Jota (Cavaleiro 89′), Jiménez.

West Ham United XI (4-4-2): Fabianski; Masuaku, Ogbonna, Diop, Zabaleta; Anderson, Rice, Noble (Carroll 68′), Snodgrass (Obiang 69′); Arnautovic (Chicharito 77′), Antonio.

Lacked creativity on the whole as a team, Newcastle sat back & were hard to break down.

Sterling looked alright & Sane could have played him in at least twice, missed a glorious chance for a tap in but it was fired at him quickly. I’m keeping...

Chip Strategy: for those of you planning to Free Hit in DGW32, have you actually looked closely at the potential blanks in GW31 and how far away your current team is to a decent team for that GW? You will only have 5 FT from confirmation of fixtures before GW27 deadline. It might not be as obvious and easy as you think, and remember you will need to making transfers along the way to get there.

Assuming the Wolves-Arsenal fixture is a blank (if Wolves progress in the FA Cup), this means potentially removing the likes of popular / performing assets such as Pogba, Rashford, Sane, Son, Aubameyang, Hazard, Jimenez, Doherty, Jota, AWB, the list goes on. These are players you may not want to get rid of, but you'll be doing it anyway just to prepare for a blank gameweek. The players you'll be brining in are the likes of Pereira, Vardy, Wilson, Arnie, Anderson, etc ... not exactly inspiring compared those you're removing. You're essentially prioritising a blank gameweek over 4 GWs of having an optimal squad.

Or, you could keep your team strong by holding onto those premium assets and highly owned players, then playing the Free Hit in GW31 to get the possible team of rabble you can (and almost certainly get a points gain over your rivals in that GW), then revert to your strong team for GW32 that will by default be filled with DGWers anyway - no need to Free Hit. Since the FH chip removes the possibility of playing other chips (BB / TC), you only need to 11 DGW players out to match those managers free hitting. You may not even need to plan much for this as a 'template' looking team right now is filled with a lot of these players already.

You also then have another advantage in that you can play one of your attacking chips in the Bench Boost or Triple Captain in a DGW where others are playing the Free Hit to get a team that might not be much better than your normal team. Once again, you might beat your rivals' scores that GW thanks a well-played Triple Captain.

Essentially you would be giving yourself a chance of beating the average in both BGW31 and DGW32, whereas the reverse strategy almost ensures a weak or suboptimal BGW31 (and all the lead-up GWs) in the hope of a monster DGW32 (where you can't even play your TC chip).

So don't necessarily take the easy way out and follow the herd. Look at your team, work out what it would look like each week leading up to GW31 once we know the fixtures, and be prepared to take a different approach.

Potentially a very small blank. Check out Ben Crellin's spreadsheet. Many of the players who blank in GW31 will be back playing in GW33. For example, Arsenal, Everton, Spurs are 3 teams likely to have a fixture in GW33. There's every chance you get a strong starting 11 without doing anything.

It's really not that bad. People just aren't looking at it closely. The BGW33 could be really minor, as low as 2 fixtures being blanks. You could easily be a transfer or 2 away from having a perfectly decent starting team.

Yes not only do you optimise your team in the build-up to GW31 by not taking all the best players out, you also get the opportunity to optimise your team on Wildcard later without getting obsesses with a Bench Boost in GW35.

What I'm suggesting is you can have the best possible team for the rest of the season rather making constant compromises all the way through. I don't want to Wildcard having to force DGWers into my squad for DGW35, I'd much rather just make an awesome team overall.

      Good post.

Like you say, prepare to be flexible with chip strategy.

We'll know more after the next round of the FA Cup, which falls between gws 26 and 27.

If Wolves get knocked out, I instantly get 4 extra players for BGW31.

If not, like you say I'd have to slowly decimate my team for BGW31.

And some good players I've taken out for gw31 could reappear for gw33 (but not be in my team anymore).

      I've got a headache now.

      Just lose Wolves. Please.

Yeah if Wolves get knocked out, as I noted, then everything changes. I will also get 4 extra players for BGW31 (5 once I've got Kolasinac) so I would adjust my thinking immediately.

My current plan is based on Wolves-Arsenal being a blank. But my main point relates to people seeming to be quite wedded to this idea of a Free Hit in DGW32 regardless of how the fixtures pan out and what their own team looks like.

People starting to get wedded to that idea because week after week it just gets repeated more often on here, iirc even one of the dgw/chips articles recommended it as the template strategy so the groupthink is inevitable

Exactly and I'm trying to fight against this group mentality. This strategy is not necessarily the best one, it just looks like the most convenient one because of the blanks falling either side of the DGW. And then you when you post some highly valid reasons to support a different approach, it gets shot down in a couple of words!

I basically back myself to deal with trickier fixtures and problems than the majority, so the harder the game is to play the better it is for managers who think more strategically.

It will be better for me if people ignore some of the advice above, but at the same time I think it's worth having the discussion.

It also suits my team, personally, which is something that is bizarrely left out of much of the discussion on chips (and everything else).

I currently don't have, or want, any players from the confirmed GW31 fixtures:

        West Ham vs Huddersfield
        Bournemouth vs Newcastle
        Burnley vs Leicester
        Fulham vs Liverpool

Except for Robertson and Alexander-Arnold, Hamer and Kamara. On the other hand, I have 5 players from the most likely fixture to be postponed (because I want them and had a view of this strategy for a couple of weeks, so haven't sold them), so it would make sense for me to use the FH in GW31 as my team is already on its way to being set-up for it.

Once I navigate GW27, I'm happy to concentrate my transfers on aquiringg more players from Man City, Crystal Palace, Southampton, Arsenal, Chelsea, Tottenham, Watford, Wolves and Everton instead (with a focus on the most likely or confirmed blanking teams).

If Cardiff vs Brighton is a blank, that helps us further, as it removes one potenial source of cheap bench players that can step into other managers' teams in GW31. Those who already own Camarasa, Etheridge, Ryan, Stephens, Duffy, Dunk, or any other current reasonable options may have to use 1-3 of those precious 4-5FTs just to sort out the 2-pointers.

Agreed, it is bizarre that this doesn't seem to come into the thinking or analysis much of the time. Right now I really like my team, and I don't want to tear it apart, but it's also set up poorly for GW31. I have triple Wolves, double Man City, double Man United, double Everton etc and unless I start transferring them all out each week I will be far better of using the Free Hit in GW31.

I also don't want any of those confirmed blank GW options in my team right now. None of them are overly appealing. I'm just not convinced many managers have investigated it closely and worked out what their team needs.

It's only around now that people are slowing down with the standard "too early" replies, which don't really achieve anything haha.

Ruth, below, is right that there is likely to be appealing options in the run-up to GW31, for GW31, but it's quite limited in my view. Commiting to any strategy is limited, but I think using FH in GW31 allows for a larger pool of quality players than the alternative strategies in the lead up to GW31.

Players from Leicester and West Ham attacks may not be good value when the time comes to buy them, and they are the best options. On the other hand, players from probably City, United and Spurs, maybe Wolves and Arsenal, possibly Chelsea and other teams with reasonable filler players in are more likely to give us the opportunities to jump on them when we need them.

I've typically stuck much more to top-6 teams as a strategy this season, as I thought they would be more predictable/reliable in the first half of the season. Now that our FTs are more precious than ever (as they've all made with a focus on a far away GW in mind), I'm thinking that it's a good idea to continue that general strategy.

It's only really Liverpool that you can trust on the other side. And I think the fact people want to triple on Liverpool is pretty much the catalyst (or deciding factor) for the general preference for FH32. But that's fair enough, if people have put the thought into how it'll work for their team (e.g. I'm sure Ruth will be fine). If they haven't, they may find themselves in a spot of bother.

The thing I'd be most concerned about is GW33.

Deulo (and minus four if he sees this), is your FH31 strategy based on not having a WC in hand, or perhaps using WC in gw34 to use BB in gw35?

My take on this is a bit different. I do not want to wait until the latest dgw to play important chips. Hence, I will play WC30, FH31 (like you), BB32, and TC either this gw or gw35. For me, this seems to be the best way to navigate the difficult gws 30-32.

Yes, a player might get injured in 30 or 31, but I have 1ft to use for 32. And minus four for a dgw player in could more easily be worth the points hit.

What do you think, seeing how you, as me, are trying to find an alternative route to glory? ^^

Not sure I agree really. A lot depends on whether Wolves make the FAC QFs or not for me.

But the sub-optimal team you talk of? Leicester have excellent fixtures from GW27 and I'd be looking at them anyway, even without the guaranteed GW31/33 fixtures. I can't see that adding Maguire/Chilwell & Vardy/Tielemans would be sub-optimal in the weeks preceding GW31.

Adding a couple of Bournemouth players in GW30 looks equally positive to me, no compromise in that. And I don't think anyone would suggest that triple Liverpool would be damaging.

That's 7 already. Many will have Fabianski, which makes 8, and adding someone like Anderson in GW29 would hardly be a bad move either. That would make 9. Personally, if every game that can be blank remains blank then I'd usually be happy with 9 in a BGW. But if Wolves fail to make the QF I'd have 11 without any trouble really and I don't see what players I'd otherwise want to add in any case. City 28-30 maybe but I'll still likely have Sané.

So GW31 really doesn't worry me much. The decision for me is between FH GW25 & GW32 as far as I can see.

If Wolves don't progress in the FAC then yes, it all changes for me and for most. But if the Wolves-Arsenal fixture is a blank in GW31, a huge percentage of my current team will be blanking.

Sure, some Leicester and Bournemouth assets aren't the worst, but who are you getting rid of for them? Pogba and Rashford? Man City mids? Son? Triple Wolves? Aubameyang? I just don't want to pulling my team apart to get it ready for GW31 when I could instead be making it awesome for GW32.

But you don't know which teams will double in GW32 and you won't know that until after GW31. 😕

The counterpoint to relatively few blanks is relatively few doubles. People may assume that the GW31 blanks go into GW32 and the GW33 blanks go into GW35 but that is an entirely mistaken assumption. For example, how best to handle Spurs will significantly depend on whether their likely DGW is in GW32 or GW35 and we almost certainly won't know that until GW31.

Preparing for DGW32 is therefore less clear-cut than preparing for BGW31. We will have a definitive view on the GW31 fixtures before GW27.

This a great point. Might be an assumption/risk worth taking, however. If it all goes wrong, I can blame myself for not taking the safer route (though there are risks with other strategies of course). But at the end of the day, I'm not looking for safe points, I'm looking for the most points. On this occassion, I think the upside (if it works out) might be greater than the downside (if it all goes wrong), but still not 100% decided.

I look at it like that period from GW28-30 could prove vital. There are some very appealing fixtures for a few of the big clubs that blank in GW31. While others are gradually brining in their BGW31 players (admittedly with some decent fixtures too, but they play for poorer teams themselves), I will hopefully be scoring more points by being entirely focused on what is happening at the time, with players that are already performing.

You may have 5 FTs between GW27 and GW31, but you can't use all 5 of them at the last minute. You have to start making them along the way, and that is not ideal. That is compromising your team for a GW down the track.

Yes. Who knows, maybe the FA will break with precedent and announce the DGW32 fixtures straight after FAC5? But based on previous occasions you'd expect all the doubles to be announced together shortly after FAC6 (so after GW31).

I applaud your analysis anyway. The point is that there isn't a one-size-fits-all strategy. It depends on the current make-up of your team and on which players you think will do well between now and GW31 really. And it's quite a complex calculation because there are plenty of unknowns still.

Thanks. And yes, I'm not suggesting my way is the only way. But it's definitely a viable strategy for my team, as it stands.

I also acknowledge what you're saying regarding the fixtures announcement - that is clearly not ideal and there is a risk that when GW32 rolls around my existing team won't be as prepared as I hope. That said, there's a very high chance it will be, especially after a couple of last-minute transfers. And then, while those playing the Free Hit in GW32 will have the best possible starting 11, I will have a very good starting 11 and be able to play a chip like Triple Captain. It could be that these two advantages cancel each other out.

So it's not so much the GWs themselves I'm concerned about. It's all the GWs before them where I personally do not want to be dismantling my team to bring in West Ham, Leicester and Bournemouth assets.

Nice writeup. Totally valid approach and like you say a lot hinges on Wolves/Arsenal in GW31. If the number of blanks (especially in 33) continues to drop then this is every bit as good a potential strategy as the many saying FH32 plan transfers from now until GW31 for the blanks.

I had been thinking of FH for GW32 but as I mapped it out, it could also work as FH in GW31 and then you don't have to force transfers you wouldn't otherwise do between now and GW31.

Also gives a good option to triple captain someone in GW32. Then we wouldn't have to worry about whether you can predict Pep and if we should TC a City player this weekend!

Agree with all of that. It may have got a bit lost in the rest of my analysis, but being able to play the TC chip in DGW32 when the free hitters won't be able to is a key factor for me. It could be Hazard or Aubameyang with 2 excellent fixtures and I will be all over it. Combine that with the fact that, in all likelihood, I'll have already made at least a minor points gain in BGW31.

For one, very few teams will have triple Liverpool attack in GW31, but this could be the perfect week for Salah, Mane, Firmino destruction and let the defence take care of itself with Pereira, Maguire, Duffy, etc. Teams might have Anderson or Arnie, but perhaps not both. They might not have an in-form Gross against Cardiff. There are plenty of possibilities for a positive result in GW31 with the Free Hit.

Even then, it's the build-up to GW31 that I'm more concerned about. I feel that this is the area that gets ignored a bit. Man City and Chelsea's fixtures in that GW28-30 period are incredible, and the last thing I want to be doing is selling their assets for West Ham and Leicester players!

Love youe analysis. As I have 2 Wolves and 2 Arsenal I think as you say so much rests on that game being a blank, however dismantling your team to prep for a shittt blank GW is madness. Especially as I juat wildcarded to set my team up nicely through to GW31.

I'll most likely be using FH in 31.

This is what I did last season, kept my team intact and played my FH in GW 31 whilst anticipating that the GW31 blanks would go to GW34 and the GW35 blanks would go to GW37 ... but of course that didn’t happen and the City & Arsenal blanks in GW35 went to GW34 and GW31 banks went to GW37 and my ‘prepared team’ for the GW34 double was useless and needed hits, then my non FH team in GW35 needed hits when others had a FH.

You can’t rely on anticipating in to which DGW the blanks will go, but you can plan for the blanks

I wildcarded in GW23 and made sure I had triple Palace as they looked reasonably likely to blank in GW31, but play in GW33, I based my chip strategy around this.

      GW31: Free Hit
GW32: Bench Boost with 11DGW players + Robbo, TAA, Salah and Wilson
GW33: Have the above 4 players, + 2 Arsenal, +2 Palace (banking on them going out), 1 GK. This leaves me a free transfer and a single player from each of Spurs, City, Man Utd, and probably 2 from Wolves, so should be able to field an XI
GW35: Play the TC (hopefully on a Chelsea player if they find some form), Get 6-7 DGW'ers out, +Triple Liverpool and a Bournemouth/Arsenal

Good post. Great in fact 🙂 Looks like the general consensus (not just on this particular thread) is now WC34 and BB35, so is now pretty much a choice between building for GW31 and FH in 32, or build for GW32 and FH in 31. Both have their merits (which I can't add to the excellent discussion already here) and people should be looking at their teams to see if both look viable based on the information we currently know or is very likely.

If both options are viable, I would personally suggest people try to plan now to make moves in the short term that keep both these options open as long as possible ***if they can***. As time goes by, we will know more information (with further FA Cup rounds), so if people make moves that railroad themselves into one strategy which then turns out to be potentially the worse strategy because there end up being more/less blanks than expected, or the GW31/32 transition to GW33 is harsher than expected, they may not be in a position to switch.

Don't DGW restrictions only apply to DGW players?

Yeah if he survives after going beyond -100 it'll be the WC's and FH's... or could be that restrictions apply if the player is being sold for a DGW player? Probably not but if so it would explain Hazard yesterday

I asked this earlier. He's marked as rising this evening, yet being sold heavily (i guess for Aguero)..so does he rise this evening or just hold.

    Eriksen+Digne>>KDB+Mendy for a hit?
    The rest are:
    McCarthy Etheridge
    Robbo VVD AWB Rice
    Salah Fraser MGW Masuaku
    Rashford (K)un Lacazette

Would left me 0.2 itb if these transfers get done.
    Thanks!

Hey guys, think I've finally got a plan in place:

    Fabianski
    Doherty, AWB, Alonso, Shaw
    Salah, Hazard, Pogba, Richarlison
    Auba, Rashford

    Button, Digne, Snodgrass, Kamara

    2FT

GW25: Auba to Kun (C), roll one FT
GW26: Hazard and Kamara to Son and Jimenez
GW27: Kun to Auba, possibly Alonso to Pereira (-4)

Sound good? Yes I know I somehow still have Alonso, but Chelsea can't be that bad two games in a row, can they...? He'll be benched for me vs City and I can field 11 in 27.

Get rid of two and keep one. Worst case scenario I don't mind taking a hit or I might even WC with a hint of DGW to come.
