Three FPL differentials for Gameweek 29 and the blanks ahead

This regular series puts the spotlight on three players whose ownership in Fantasy Premier League is below 5% – or in one case this week, just slightly above it.

We’ve looked at a defender, a midfielder and a forward with appealing matches this weekend as well as guaranteed fixtures in Blank Gameweeks 31 and 33.

Michail Antonio (£6.8m)

FPL ownership: 1.6%

There was a mad rush on Felipe Anderson (£7.2m) ahead of West Ham’s match against Fulham in Gameweek 27, with Fantasy managers also perhaps having one eye on the weeks ahead when snapping the Brazilian up – the Hammers have guaranteed fixtures in Blank Gameweeks 31 and 33 as well as some appealing matches beforehand.

While Anderson has struggled for form (one assist in nine matches), his team-mate Michail Antonio (£6.8m) has quietly been more impressive.

Antonio has two goals, one assist and two bonus points in the last four Gameweeks.

The former Nottingham Forest midfielder has started 11 of the last 12 Premier League matches and while the return to fitness of Manuel Lanzini (£6.4m) and Samir Nasri (£5.3m) is perhaps cause for concern, both those players shared game-time in the “number ten” role – rather than wide on the right, where Antonio generally plays – on Wednesday evening in Manchester.

When filtered by last six home matches, only three midfielders – all of them premium ones – have recorded more shots in the box than Antonio.

Antonio’s ability in the air could also be an advantage when Newcastle visit the London Stadium on Saturday: Antonio has recorded more headed goal attempts than any other FPL midfielder when again filtered by last six home matches.

The Magpies, meanwhile, have conceded more headed chances than all Premier League teams bar Burnley this season.

Jamie Vardy (£8.8m)

FPL ownership: 5.3%

We’ve slightly bent the rules on this one.

Jamie Vardy‘s FPL ownership was hovering just below the 5% mark at the planning stage of this article but a modest number of inbound transfers has tipped him over the edge of our usual cut-off point for differentials.

The impact of Claude Puel’s exit is still yet to be fully determined but there was seemingly no love lost between the now-departed Frenchman and Vardy, with the Leicester City striker having previously said Puel’s style didn’t suit him.

Similarly, we are yet to see how the appointment of Brendan Rodgers as Leicester manager affects Vardy’s output.

The “new manager bounce” could be the catalyst for Vardy’s renaissance as a Fantasy asset, however, with the ex-England striker having previously enjoyed a purple patch (five goals in as many matches) when Craig Shakespeare replaced another alleged “adversary” in Claudio Ranieri in February 2017.

Vardy, indeed, was on the scoresheet against Brighton on Tuesday night in Mike Stowell’s sole game in charge.

Certainly, Leicester have some appealing fixtures ahead, starting with a trip to a Watford side that rank in the bottom five for attempts on goal, shots in the box and big chances conceded over the last six Gameweeks.

The Foxes also avoid any of the “big six” from now until Gameweek 36 and have guaranteed fixtures in Blank Gameweeks 31 and 33.

Vardy’s underlying stats aren’t great over the last six Gameweeks but the calibre of the Foxes’ opposition (Liverpool, Manchester United, Spurs) and the Leicester striker’s benching at Wembley have to be taken into account.

Only two FPL forwards have been presented with more “big chances” than Vardy in 2018/19.

James Tarkowski (£4.7m)

FPL ownership: 4.4%

Burnley’s eight-match unbeaten run came to an end on Tuesday night but there is little argument that the Clarets have massively improved following their well-documented struggles earlier this season.

Over the last nine Gameweeks, only four clubs have shipped fewer goals than Sean Dyche’s side.

Just five sides have allowed fewer big chances in that time.

Burnley now have three home matches in the next four Gameweeks – one of which is in Blank Gameweek 31.

Tarkowski recorded three attempts on goal on Tyneside in midweek: Shane Duffy (£4.7m) is the only FPL defender who has registered more shots in the box over the last six Gameweeks.

Only three FPL assets in any position (let alone defence) have registered more efforts than Tarkowski from inside the opposition six-yard box this season.

What we learnt in the runup to gameweek 29…

    Liverpool

Firmino has been outside running, which is a positive step, but Klopp will wait to see how he reacts.
    https://twitter.com/JamesPearceEcho/status/1101474640881504257

    Manchester City

Jesus is back in contention for City, which coupled with Pep’s comments on how Aguero was exhausted after midweek might suggest a rest in on its way for Aguero. Fernandinho will return after the IB, Laporte a few days after him. Stones is back as well. Delph trains but won’t be in the squad.
    https://twitter.com/Sammy_Goal/status/1101473831456309249

    Tottenham

Winks and Vertonghen are doubts, Dier and Alli are out.
    https://twitter.com/Dan_KP/status/1101467430256291840

    Arsenal

Koscielny and Lichtsteiner are now fully back. Emery said “The players are all well”.
    https://twitter.com/charles_watts/status/1101424947107430400?s=19

    Manchester United

OGS confirmed that Rashford is now once again fully fit and expects him to start the game. Martial could return, everyone else misses out.
    https://twitter.com/RobDawsonESPN/status/1101423803421331456?s=19

    Chelsea

Sarri confirms that Chelsea have no significant injury concerns, but will have to make 3 or 4 changes to his starting 11 as fatigue begins to set in. He also mentions that he will continue to set his team up to play aggressively against smaller / weaker teams, and confirmed Kepa would play in one of the next 2, but remains the number one keeper.
    https://twitter.com/NizaarKinsella/status/1101476534492319744

    Wolves

Ruddy will start in goal tomorrow, in place of Patricio who struggled to deal with an aerial bombardment in the reverse fixture in November.
    https://twitter.com/tim_spiers_Star/status/1101472438280441856

    Watford

Watford’s press conference is at 5pm. I will leave a comment below with any updates from that one.

    Everton

Baines is out but Mina is “OK” and is looking better than he did midweek. No other injuries for the Toffee’s.
    https://twitter.com/Everton/status/1101476421363470339

    Leicester

Other than the long term absentees, Leicester squad is fit and ready to play.
    https://twitter.com/BBCRLSport/status/1101480030041985024?s=20

    West Ham

Balbuena has returned to training but the Newcastle game comes too soon for him. Masuaku and Cresswell should be ready for a return, and Arnautovic is back after his illness.
    https://twitter.com/Sam_InkersoleTM/status/1101471947530084352

    Bournemouth

Steve Cook, Stanislas and Solanke all remain out, but Brooks could start and Wilson isn’t totally ruled out. Lerma will miss out, as he serves the last game of his ban. Cook unlikely to return soon.
    https://twitter.com/solentsport/status/1101410708988854274?s=19

    Newcastle

I really try to find something somewhat interesting about each team. Newcastle do not make that easy. Shelvey will play with the Under 23s tonight.
    https://twitter.com/ADMusgrove/status/1101479207983562754?s=20

    Crystal Palace

Wan-Bissaka is once again fit, which is a big boost for Palace fans and many FPL managers alike. Sakho has had surgery for his injury so will need a while to recover.
    https://twitter.com/CPFC/status/1101467710217732098

    Burnley

Dyche confirmed Westwodd had recovered from illness but missed training on Thursday to recover.
    https://twitter.com/BurnleyOfficial/status/1101120999058223105?s=19

    Brighton

Gross will miss the Brighton game, along with Balogun. Andone returns from suspension as well.
    https://twitter.com/OfficialBHAFC/status/1101114285030338562?s=19

    Southampton

Both Ings and Lemina are both still unable to train. There are no other new injuries.
    https://twitter.com/FFScout/status/1101439841676464128?s=19

    Cardiff

Camarasa is once again available after his injury. Niasse was ineligible midweek, but can now play again.
    https://twitter.com/BenDinnery/status/1101439787565764608?s=19

    Fulham

Mawson’s RTP is set at April, with Bettinelli also out long term. Schurrle is still recovering from a virus, but other than that they are all fit.
    https://twitter.com/FulhamFC/status/1101476136519897088

    Huddersfield

Diakhaby could be out for another 3 or 4 weeks and will miss the weekend game along with Mbenza and Williams. Smith is serving the second game of a 3 game ban.

Doesn't require surgery, but Howe doesn't see him making "an immediate return".

Sounds to me it's pretty bad, but not bad enough to warrant surgery - hence unlikely to return soon. I'm no doctor though!

anyone have a quote from pep re. resting sergio?

    I've seen this text ...

"Guardiola confirms that Gabriel Jesus is back for City this weekend. So he can rest Sergio Aguero without having to play Raheem Sterling or somebody else out of position (not that he won’t still do that)" here: https://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/man-city-news-transfers-live-15904452

Unlike the other 'key events' this one has no quote, is this just someones opinion on what might happen?

Aguero has played loads of minutes.
Pep said he was exhausted last game.
Big CL game coming midweek for City to qualify.
Jesus is ready and needs minutes to get form back

Aguero away from home isn't too prolific, either (or at least not this season).

I seem to recall he was benched for the home game against Bournemouth earlier this season, too - so it wouldn't be unusual if he finds himself having a rest tomorrow.

    Son/Aguero > Sterling/Higuain

Prefer Vardy over Hig, but yes.

    Alisson
    Doherty - Robertson - Lascelles - Pereira
    Salah - Son - Pogba
    Agüero - Jimenez - Rashford

    Bench: Richarlison, Laporte, Camarasa, Button.

    2FT, 1.3M ITB.

Son & Laporte to Hazard & Diop looks like decent transfers? Probably capping Hazard as well.

    Lloris
    Doherty Robbo Lascelles

G2G. Maybe Pereira instead of Lascelles, but could go either way.

    Can't captain Kun now.

Is it worth replacing Patricio for a hit if my backup keeper is Speroni?

If you need a GK for bgws 31 and 33 then yes.

Anyone tempted by Arnie, passed fit and plays in gw31

I need a mid price striker to bring in as doing jwp and Auba to hazard and a striker. Have Barnes already

Should I go safe and get rondon

I regret bringing him in for 27. Wouldn't if I had my time back.

I can't help thinking Jota will be benched. What are other Jota owners doing?

    thanks

Starting him, don't really have any alternatives. I assume you think he'll be dropped because of form? Surely doesn't need a rest, only plays 60 mins a game.

Fair enough. Yes form. Taken off the last 3 games at around 60/65 mins

Starting him, even though I do have alternatives on the bench. But at home vs Cardiff...I'm hoping he gets another chance to start.

I've never seen a sacked manager in a better mood than Ranieri.

No Chelsea defender in the whole watchlist? Reason? Think about getting Luiz in this week...

Luiz is the best D move in the FPL at the moment IMHO. Non-owner.
