Scoutcast Episode 286 – Hopeful

Recorded during the last few minutes of Gameweek 28’s fixtures, the Scoutcast crew cling to the hope of huge points hauls right to the final whistle.

For Az and Joe, though, the evening proved particularly frustrating as they are left to settle for a mere dribble of 11th-hour returns from the likes of Paul Pogba.

At least one of the crew saw their hope rewarded. Special guest Adam Hopcroft, who was filling in for the red-flagged podcast pair of David and Luke, ended the night on 62 points to set him on course for his sixth top 10,000 overall finish.

Amid the excitement of a Gameweek finale, the crew also find time to mull over the key players, teams and talking points of the week.

Chelsea’s strong fixture run comes under scrutiny, as does the potential of a Leicester side under new management following the appointment of former Celtic and Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers.

Chip strategy is also revisited with recent injuries to key players and the strong form of Newcastle presenting further challenges and opportunities as Fantasy mangers navigate the upcoming blank and double Gameweeks.

Gameweek 29 is then looked at in detail, with clean sheet and differential prospects put under the microscope.

Proceedings take an unusual turn when Monty Python’s Life of Brian and He-Man earn mentions.

The crew finish the show by revealing  their transfer and captaincy plans. As the old football cliché goes “they can take the despair, it’s the hope that kills them”.

    How's this WC looking?
Already played it so no point criticising the strategy, but the team for this week?

    Patricio.
    TAA, Robbo, Bennett.
    Sterling, Pogba, Haz, Barnes, Antonio.
    Aguero, Jiminez.

    (Boruc, Chilwell, King, Cook).

Will do Pogba to Mané next week. Anyone think Mané is a priority for this week (rather than Pogba/Hazard)? Thanks 🙂

      It’s your WC!
Ignore any criticism. Everyone to their own. Hope it works out for you.

Team looks ok. Not sure on Antonio though.
Merseyside derby at Goodison. Who knows? Usually tight affairs but having him from the outset would save an FT. Depends how well you think Pogba will do against Southampton.

        Exactly! Cheers.

Mane vs. Pogba is tough this week. tempted to forget Hazard.

The big gamble - as ever - is Hazard I think. He could make or break it.

Otherwise neat. I’m holding Mo (already had Mane for a few weeks now) and think he’ll comfortably outscore Mane here on in. But if no Mo gets you Kun and Sterling then it’s probably worthwhile.

I agree with all of that. Would love Mo, back him every week, but funds can be spent better elsewhere and frees up another midfield spot.

If it’s not too late I’d consider Schlupp over Bennet - oop and likely good DGW.

I’m giving up on anything Wolves defence - don’t even fancy it this week with the record against Cardiff

What’s the best strategy, the one that involves:

    1. FH32
    2. WC32

    Thanks

Hazard v Higuain for the captain armband for me.

Anyone made this decision yet? If so, what swung it for you?

Higuain has been more reliable over his career and hazard is usually very difficult to predict

I understand your point, but I seperate people’s historical formmin other leagues to their current form in the premier league.

        Tough decision !

Wasn’t paying attention and now I’m priced out of son and Auba > sterling Nd vardy -4. Do I take a -8 to fit them in?

Newcastle i think has higher probabilities of conceding..Most likely both will get 2pts but the better choice i think is Diop.

Do you think Nuno had Patricio in his FPL team and had enough like the rest of us? 😀

A few weeks ago someone commented that the winner of the Captain Poll was rarely (maybe only once previously) the best pick for that week (after hindsight)...anyone put stock into that or? Seems somewhat statistically significant.

What’s the alternative though? Pick the player that doesn’t win the poll?

Yes!! Meaning, ignore the winner and pick anyone else.

In order of preference from these to start this GW- does this look right?

    1. Pereira.
    2. Camarasa.
    3. AWB

Not fancying a Leicester CS nor a Pereira return over an AWB clean sheet.
