FFS Cup

The latest FFS Cup fixtures and results

Our contingent of former winners in the latest FFS Cup has already been more than halved by the first round results.

Joe, MCH, Gribude and A Manager Has No Name were all elminated at the first stage following Gameweek 28’s qualifiers.

In what proved a nightmare Gameweek 29 for most, only three of the ex-champions progressed to round three.

Joe was knocked out by Force Majeure by a 40-34 scoreline and MCH fell to True Deadzoner 41-33.

Gribude’s score of 44 was not enough to get past Mas7our‘s 56 while A Manager Has No Name was unfortunate to fall foul of one Gameweek 29’s 60+ scores.

He was taken out by Dodgy Keeper whose captaining of Gonzalo Higuain (£9.6m) earned him a score of 60 points.

Things went a little better for 2EyedTurk, who edged past Hasselbaink Forever by a score of 48-44.

Wild Rover‘s 50 points saw him eliminate Boris Bodega, who managed just 40.

donnellyc was fortunate enough to catch an opponent with one of the worst Gameweek scores in the first round. Bragazeti‘s 26 points ensured 31 was sufficient for the victory.

Vinicius Jr. 18 years old. From Flamengo. Goes to Real Madrid, the greatest club in recent history.

Gets a reportedly €7.5m per year salary. From the get go.

Don't get me wrong, a hugely talented player with mad potential, but thats about it. Young players who get to the big leagues should EARN their place in the club, shining the shoes of the greats. Why is it that when a kid showz the *tiniest* bit of talent, they instantly get a MASSIVE contract. How is that going to encourage talent development? How does he even get an incentive to push to improve?

You sound like those Mail 'journalists' who blame young players buying expensive homes for their parents. Plus that talent is not tiniest. Madrid fenced off competition from big clubs.

Nope, nothing wrong with Sterling buying home for his parents.
But I just dont like that young players get rewarded massively so early in their career, when they've achieved nothing on the big stage yet. It encourages them to just rest on their laurels. Especially in Real. Standards should be high.

Obviously hus talent is more than most, and I am a big fan. Have every reason to believe he will be top 10 players in the world. But I dont want to see players like him get too comfortable being where they are. You always want them to improve and grow, not rest on what they have.

That's the football today. Big clubs compete for talents, whether it's teenagers or schoolboys. They have scouts worldwide to do the homework. They have the money to spend and can afford to waste some if the boy flops. Vinicius's case is no different from Sancho or Hudson-Odoi. In Madrid's case, Florentino Perez obviously have been particularly obsessed with young talents in recent years. That could be his way of getting ahead of the curve, who knows.

Agreed. I've never been a fan of what football has become. Love the sport. Hate that its become all about cash.

The boy did his grunt work carrying his team in the CL with Monaco, proved he could go shoulder to sjoulder with the best. I'd say he earned his place in world football there. Deserved the PSG move. Vinny had never played in Europe before, much less the CL.

I don't know how old you are but the days of the best Brazilian talents like Romario and Ronaldo going to PSV as a stepping stone to learn before joining clubs like Barca are long gone.

Neymar is probably the last Brazilian to stick around and that was even then only because of that 2008 world cup Santos held on to him so long and his commercial earnings being so big for hi to wait.

That won't happen now for the likes of Vinicius Junior the pressure is on and the money so big. Real haven't got the money nor does Perez to reignite a new Galatico project in the Arab money era

Once they get the big contract, they don’t ‘rest on their laurels’. They have the incentive of keeping their big contract ; and if they underperform, they lose it.

Best case scenario, this happens. Happy to see a player see it this way. Would love nothing more than to see a young player work hard to be the very best.
Unfortunately, that's not what often happens, does it?

He now has to earn that in front of the real fans. It’s a lot of pressure, not an easy way to success by any means. A few bad performances and it’ll be hung round his neck

Not trying to sound condescending, but do you watch Real Madrid play at all? He has been their best player by a distance since he's come into the team. I don't like Real Madrid or the way they go about their business, but I think it would set a much worse precedent if they were to not play their best players just because of their age. He has more than earned his place in the team and it's the "greats" that have been letting the team down with their performances.

I have 0.6 ties up in him. That's why I'm thinking of going Boly instead when I get a Wolves def back. Both will get the clean sheet points, just banking on Docherty not assisting or scoring really. It's a punt I know.

How is my squad shaping up and what ideas might someone have for me?

It’s the lack of clean sheets that is most annoying. Two assists in five is fine for someone I got so cheap. I’m also ok with benching now he doesn’t get mega hauls

          It's Rondon(EVE,bou) vs Digne(new) + Barnes(LEI)
Rondon really needs to score well this week as Barnes is fav next GW.

Cheers, the decision is actually clear in favour of Barnes given he 100% plays in GW33. If Rondon ends up blanking in 33 that would require another hit to get 11.

Sorry I would have 10 for 31 if Rondon were to blank. So I could use the FT to get 11 as you say.

But I’d rather use the FT to trade out Digne (ARS), FAnderson (che) or deal with an injury.

Anyone else on the free hit gw 31?

When we started planning a few gws ago I realised I didn’t want any lei ful bou hud or bur players, or anymore whu than fab.

Who have you bought in the last few weeks and are you happy with them?

Has it meant missing out on getting kun or sterling or ditching anyone you wanted to keep just for one gw and one chip?

I don't think it's a good use of the chip. I only have
      3 x Pool
      2 x New
      1 x Wham
      1 x Bou
May add 2 Chelsea and 1 more for -8
FH32 and get 31 team back. Only issue will be if no Newcastle

Agree, not really worth it. I think 8-9 is plenty for GW31. It hasn't really affected my plans too much. I've had Kun for a while, got TAA last week for pool triple-up. I've had Luiz/Fab for a while, and got Rondon recently who was on decent form and cheap. I plan on bringing in 2 more for GW31, at least one Chelsea player, so I don't think it's jacking up my team. Similar to Kiwi, FH32 and then WC34.

FH 31 here and likely to have this team for 32:

I've brought in Fabianski, Anderson and Pereira. Still need to see how they go in the next 2 weeks to make a proper assessment of them.

I owned Sterling and couldn't afford Kun anyway.

The only players I've ignored are Palace, but I still think I've adopted the correct strategy.

I'm going FH 32 and am pretty happy with the way my team looks. Only Harvey Barnes is looking a bit iffy right now, but at that price it isn't much of a concern. How have you gone about building your team around FH 31?

        Boruc
        TAA Rice Lascelles
        Salah Mane Hayden

Surely worth taking a few hits to get 11 out for the blanks? Assuming you're going free hit in 32 you'd make up the -4 just through appearance points.

Definitely. Just deciding who to keep because selling value. Most likely Sterling Doherty Jiminez but would mean no Higuain. Not sure I like his fixtures though

      - Higuain & Vardy last week nailed it.
      - Kept Hazard who gave me a return last week and Barnes chipped in too.
      - Pogba, Rashford & City have all blanked in the last 2 games
      - Ignored Wolves defenders for Lascalles and Ogbonna and both have posted regular returns

Captain choice has killed me more than anything, 2, 6, -2 in the last 3 weeks 🙁

.... planning for 31 with ‘rubbish’ players is not as one sided or clear cut as some would like to suggest on here 😉

Not many ideas here, but thinking of shipping out Son/Jimenez to Pedro/Higuain. Wolves next 4 GW: che blank bur MNU blank. Burnley game is nice, but not sure if it's worth to hold onto. Chelsea not looking super strong, but they play in GW31 and have Cardiff and West Ham after. I'll probably WC for GW34. Any other ideas? Newcastle defense?

          Does fodder play?
Still needs to be 2 vs 2 unless playing short. The 4 represents a transfer or a hit.

Would you lose 0.4 on team value and -8 points in order to field 11 players for BGW 31&33 ? Or are 10 players enough for half of that enough sacrifice?

The players which will be brought in are two from Vardy/King/Madisson/Fraser and my current TV is 105.5. Plan is to FH32 and WC34

That's the question for most of us. A few extra points with luck but have less to spend for 7 GWs.

So you think the players I mentioned are in the "luck" category?

I could avoid the second -4 hit by bringing in the likes of Ake and Brooks instead of Pereira and one of Madisson/Fraser if that helps the dilemma

The ones you don't pick may score the points. Your players could get injured in 31 etc. If you want the Wolves/Pogba for 32/34 etc then you lose some buying power.

Yes, that's true and obviously there's a risk involved.

What's your strategy then? Taking hits or not?

Depends who is available etc. Son and Sterling are leaving this week or next so yes. What I do with the Wolves/Pogba is the extra thinking. FH32/WC34 gives you more freedom at least but sacrifices money.
