Allsvenskan Fantasy: 2019 Season

As Fantasy Premier League is drawing to a close, the Scandinavian leagues are kicking in to replace the hole in our hearts that inevitably arrives after GW38. When all the mini-leagues are finished and most of us are left thinking “well, there’s always next year” (as far as overall rank goes anyway, I’m sure you’re all bossing it in your work-leagues)…

The Norwegian Fantasy Eliteserien has started to gather a bit of a following on the site and the same developers are now gearing up towards the second season of the Swedish version, “Fantasy Allsvenskan”.

The first games are on the 31st of March.

Bonus point system

There is quite a difference between Fantasy Premier League, Fantasy Eliteserien, and the Fantasy Allsvenskan bonus point system.

While FPL is based on the (in)famous stat-based BPS that hands out 1-3 points for the players with the most BPS at the end of the game, Eliteserien goes for a “man in the stands” kind of approach but sticks with 1-3 bonus points.

Allsvenskan, on the other hand, goes for a different approach entirely. There is a max-limit per player that’s set at 2 bonus points for offensive contributions and 2 for defensive actions, which are calculated as follows:

Offensive bonus

1 point for every 3 successful crosses (the ball reaches a teammate in the penalty box).

1 point for every 3 key passes (pass that leads to a shot on target).

1 point for every big chance created (like the rest, big chances are determined by Opta).

Defensive bonus

1 point for every 6 clearance, block or interception.

1 point for every 6 ball recoveries.

Last year in Fantasy Allsvenskan they also had negative bonus points subtraction for “bad” offensive or defensive actions (terrible for frequent and inaccurate shot-takers amongst others), but they’ve removed that this season. There have been a few changes all around to the bonus system but from what I can tell it appears to favour creative players and solid defensive play, and not really punish anyone.

Chips

Last year there were only the classic two Wildcards, but this year they’ve introduced three more chips.

Parkera bussen (Park the bus) – Each defender gets double points. When playing this chip you are stripped of the ability to also have a captain that gameweek.

Framåt! (Attack!) – All forwards get double points. As above, no additional captain in that GW.

Två kaptener (Two captains) – Both your captain and vice-captain get double points.

Teams to watch

Allsvenskan is very much a league where any team on their day can beat anyone (especially at home). There are however a couple of teams that tend to be at the top more often than not, and they look likely to challenge for the top three spots this year as well.

AIK

Champions of last year, AIK looks primed to continue being a top force in Swedish football. Last five seasons they’ve finished 1st, 2nd, 2nd, 3rd, and 3rd. Their recipe for success has most of the time been their incredible defence, last season they conceded only 16 goals from 30 games, the year before that 22 in 30. Expect a lot of clean sheets if history is anything to go by. Offensively speaking they’ve been quite good but not great, their 50 goals scored bettered by all teams from 2nd to 6th position last season.

Key players:

Daniel Sundgren (7.0m), defender – 1 goal, 5 assists and 13 clean sheets last year from a wingback position. Assuming he stays healthy he will most likely top the charts this year as well. Pricy, but brilliant.

Sebastian Larsson (9.0m), midfielder – 2 goals, 5 assists (signed midway through the season). On a lot of set pieces, Larsson has a history in English football. Mostly noted for his time in Birmingham and Sunderland (2006-2011 and 2011-2016 respectively), he has never been a super prolific goal or assist machine but as far as Allsvenskan goes, he should rack up some points.

Henok Goitom (10.0m), forward – 11 goals and 6 assists last season. Takes penalties (most of the time) and is always a threat in attack. Will probably share some gametime with Tarik Elyounoussi (9.0m) and Chinedu Obasi (9.0m), as AIK has lined up with a 3-5-2 in recent years. He tends to be the one that’s most assured of starts however.

IFK Norrköping

Norrköping is an old powerhouse in Swedish football that is starting to come back to life. The last five season they’ve finished 2nd, 6th, 3rd, 1st and (before they started to get back to it), 12th. Less defensively solid than AIK, but slightly more prolific attack-wise. Not much in it though, last year they scored 51 to AIK’s 50.

Key players:

Isak Petterson (6.0m), goalkeeper – top scoring keeper in Allsvenskan last season with 11 clean sheets, 87 saves and 1 penalty save.

Christoffer Nyman (10.0m), forward – the prodigal son returns for Norrköping after two mixed seasons abroad. Back in 2015 and 2016 he was a driving force in their league-winning campaign together with Emir Kujovic (still plying his trade outside of Sweden).

Karl Holmberg (8.5m), forward – had a bit of a tougher time scoring goals last time around but still got 8 goals and 6 assists. The season before that he got 14 goals and 3 assists. If he keeps his starting spot with the introduction of Nyman, he will be in the points.

Malmö FF

The team that just recently got knocked out of the Europa League by Chelsea after putting up a decent fight has been really good by Swedish standards for a long time now. Last five seasons they’ve finished 3rd, 1st, 1st, 5th and 1st. They’ve also had some runs in the Europa and Champions League that’s ensured their finances are better than most Swedish teams, allowing them to scoop up Scandinavian talents in recent years. The result is (by Swedish standards) a bit of a Manchester City, where they tend to dominate most games but the points can be a bit spread around and rotation is quite frequent. Pre-season and the first few games should tell us more about the potential lineups.

Key players:

Eric Larsson (6.5m), defender – 2 goals, 7 assists and 9 clean sheets. Very attacking and favoured by the bonus system last time around.

Romain Gall (8.5m), midfielder – 12 goals, 7 assists. Played for GIF Sundsvall first half of the season but got poached by a “struggling” Malmö and helped them secure a top three finish.

Sören Rieks (9.5m), midfielder – 10 goals, 5 assists. Had a bit of a patchy form last season but when he’s in the zone he is really good and attacking.

Forwards are a bit tough to call right now given they have four really good strikers in Markus Rosenberg (10.0m), Marcus Antonsson (11.0m), Carlos Strandberg (9.0m) and Jo Inge Berget (9.0m), being backed up by Guillermo Molins (8.5m). Some of them might play in the midfield but all have potential to score big IF they start most games up top.

Future Allsvenskan coverage

There will be articles covering the league through the season, and a few more leading up to GW1.

Leave suggestions in the comment section on topics to cover.

Like the Eliteserien articles, only Allsvenskan comments will be allowed in the comment boxes. Feel free to flag comments that are about the wrong league!

Also, a tip: try to have a decent bench as suspensions (for every 3 yellow cards) and surprise injuries (no pre-game press conferences) mean that it is quite common to need the bench to show up!

      Cheers!

I’ve done a first take but expect it to change a couple of times before the deadline, especially around the edges that are admittedely a bit rough:
      Jansson (Joelsson)
      E Larsson - Granli - R Lindkvist (Witry, Koussounou)
      Celik - Gall - Rieks - C Gustafsson (Jarl)
Jeremejeff - Buya Turay - Goitom

Will Gall feature as much though? Looked to be more rotation-prone when he made a mid-summer move to Malmö last season (although he did pick up points as before when he was played).

That would be the worry yeah, noticed he’a been used sparingly in pre-season. Was good for me both at Sundsvall and at Malmö last year but might rotate a bit too much.

The same could be said of Mervan Celik but after 10 goals in the Swedish cup so far he should be primed for more starts and at that price...

Well we have Witry, Celik, Jarl, and Jeremejeff in common.

        That's a worry 😀

Looks good, but a little too many rotation risks for my taste, with Larsson, Lindqvist, Celik and Gall.

I'm also going for 3 premium strikers, but keep swapping between Buya, Antonsson, Jeremejeff and Obasi, currently sitting with the first three.

Yeah so I've noticed when looking into it more deeply! Gall is gone and will think a bit about the rest. Surely Erik Larsson starts more games than not though? He's so good!

I think the strikers is where it's at right now, quite a lot of good options. Antonsson can go big if he is nailed (which he should be). Obasi has a big potential but I'm just unsure about the rotation with Elyounoussi primarily.

I agree that Larsson should get more starts, however it seems like Rösler favours Vindheim. He played well in the Europa League, so to me 6.5 is too much of a gamble.

There are many players I'm tempted by, especially from Malmö, but I'm trying to stick to players who I know will start the games. Obasi is a personal favourit, but could be a rotation risk as you say, so I'll probaby stick with Antonsson, Jeremejeff and Buya.

I think that is a brilliant frontline, just not sure what to do in midfield if I go too top-heavy. Will have to scout out some solid mid-priced mids, or maybe go heavy at the back for "value".

Got any thoughts on the midfield options?

Mid-priced midfielders is a really tricky category. Havn't looked into it too much yet, but a few choices could be:

Bertilsson 7.0 - Was brilliant 2 years ago and seems to have settled in Örebro now.

Omoh 6.0 - Lots of potential but not enough end product yet. Not as nailed as Bertilsson eighter.

Farnerud 7.5 - Have no idea of his condition at the moment, but was probably fantasy player of the season 2016. If he can come anywhere near that he could be interesting.

Saletros 7.5 - Was very good last season before he left AIK, wouldn't trust him to start every game but is a good player.

Midfield in general looks very difficult this season. Can't really find anything interesting below 6.0. Many good players around 8.5 but some of them seems like rotation risks to me (Gall,Celik, Kacanicklic, Rodic, Traustason).

Yup Bertilsson is on my radar as well. I would really like it if Malmö could just nail down (more or less) who is going to be playing, feels like a minefield at the moment!
I also like the look of Romario at 8.0, could be a decent option.

A very different option in midfield could be Elias Andersson (6.0) for Sirius. They are usually very attacking and Andersson has started in the front three a lot of the times in preseason. Was injured the entirety of last season but before the injury he was one of the best, if not the best player in the Sirius team. Is a very creative unselfish player with a very good left foot. Is still quite young and has a lot of potential to break trough this season.

Being from and living in and going to almost all matches Norrköping I can’t enpahpthise how much getting Nyman back means for us.
    The kid embodies the team.
His name will be sung for a full 90 in every game.

Other key players for us will be Alexander Fransson. He came back in the middle of last season( we had sold hum to Basel s few years earlier) and became more and more important for us for every game he played. I fully expect him to be both our engine going forward and key to winning the ball back early. Doesn’t take much to see he is on another level, above most players in Allsvenskan. Dominant player on this level.

Simon Thern(son of Benfica legend Jonas Thern) will also be a key going forward both with his passing game and his shot. Will score and assist quite a few plus create space for others.

Then we have Jordan Larsson(son of a certain Celtic legend). Had a tough not to say bad season last year but has looked much better in pre-season now. Hopefully he starts performing accordingly with his capacity this season.

We’ve lost a few(and could lose a few more sadly). Most notable the aged Andreas Johansson in central defence, Daniel Sjölund in central defensive mid. And of course my favorite DMK or David Moberg Karlsson.
But those first 2 were about to hit senior citizenship. There calm compsure to almost always stand in the right position will be tough to replace.
We’ve tried though, brought in a danish cb(Lauritsen) and a cb from Honduras(Alvarez).
My personal favorite new signing(2 year loan) though is Saed Haksaabanovic 19 years old from West ham. He is an offesive mid and a bit of a wizard with the ball.

I might get back with more insight but rarely visits this site these days(nor find time to take care of my fantasy team).

Talk of the town so far is youngster Pontus Almqvist aged 19. Only 1 appearance in Allsvenskan so far of course but has looked really good when getting trust in pre-season. Should be classed as a mid and cheap as chips.
Can play on both left and right side mid but also as forward when we go with 4-3-3 instead of 3-5-2. He will then play on one of the sides with Nyman in the middle.
Trouble is that we have so many options going forward. In all likelyhood we will sell at least one and Holmberg is rumoured to be on his way out which seems logical as he has shortsen time left on his contract than Larsson. Holmberg playing under the Gun now.

Just one to look out for

It's stuff like this that's so hard for the people (like me) who don't know the league to find, and it's so helpful for our Fantasy teams. Hope to see you a bit more on the Allsvenskan articles this year!

Got my squad together. Since I'm as blind to this as most of you are to Eliteserien, I find it kind of refreshing to go in without much preconception or bias, but I do notice I tend to stick to either strong numbers or familiar names.

Squad so far looks like this:
    Bråtveit - Dahlin
    Larsson-Jansson-Karlsson-Hodzic-Joza
    Romario-Ring-Moro-Levi-Östlind
    Paulinho-Haglund-Bergmark Wiberg

Bråtveit and Levi are recruited on basis of Eliteserien knowledge of them, I hope they prove to keep that form also in Allsvenskan.
Paulinho was a god-sent for me last season and I am hoping performance is more stable in Allsvenskan, and that I can expect good return from him this season as well.
Larsson-Jansson-Karlsson an AIK/Malmö combination to pick up on defensive points.
Ring did well for me last season, giving him another chance.
Romario is a new one for me, his numbers look good to me and how can I resist with that iconic a name.
Bergmark Wiberg is a bit of a punt, young up-and-coming and I think he'll take the second striker spot. I'm not basing it on anything at all though, would love for someone who know the team to tell me if I'm in the park or way off base here.....

Paulinho is one of the safest bets you can make.
Not looked at fixtures or transfers for many teams yet but you can be sure of Paulinho getting goals.

Yup, Paulinho is always solid and a good safe pick! So expensive though and I feel like I need the depth until budget options emerge, went with his strike partner Jeremejeff instead.

I watch quite a lot of Djurgården (local rivals to my beloved Hammarby) due to my girlfriend and all of her family supporting them (the horror...) 🙂
Most of the time they tend to play with just one striker, if that continues to be the case I think Bergmark Wiberg will struggle for gametime as Buya Turay will start up front. Wiberg got some time in the first few games of the cup but as soon as Turay was fit he’s been relegated to the bench.

Thanks for this, sofascore throwing me for a loop, presented Djurgården with a 4-4-2 setup in each case I looked into. Moved off him and considering a cheeky move to Diouf instead.

If it's Robin Jansson from AIK you got there you should probably swap him out since he signed for Orlando City last week. Could you find another 0.5 to upgrade to Sundgren? Or maybe even downgrade to Granli and save some cash? A bit of a gamble but he seems like a starter, and I'm all for doubbling up on AIK defence.

Also have in mind that while Larsson is a great asset, he's also a major rotation risk since he will almost certainly share game time with Vindheim.

It was, the game finally flagget it too, moved over to Sundgren, thanks.

Ekpolo could be very good. Same price and is a very attacking fullback for a good team in Häcken. Otherwise Dagerstål, Bengtsson and Safari plays for projected top teams but aren’t as attacking as ekpolo. If you want cheaper attacking options. Witry for Djurgården and Sandberg for Hammarby has been very attacking and are nailed on to start basically every game.

Very nice to hear and welcome to the site!

Great ranks, I remember finishing in the top 100 on two occasions (think it was when Cmore had it) but struggled last year, don't even remember where I finished really, but nothing good. Too much faith in Jiloan Hamad was the biggest issue for me and never nailing the captaincy.

For attacking points I'm mainly looking at Häcken, Malmö and Norrköping, and perhaps also Östersund and AIK if I can find any value there.

When it comes to defence, I expect Sirius and Falkenberg to concede the most goals, with teams like Örebro, Göteborg and Helsingborg also likely to concede a bunch.

I'm on Jeremejeff and Irandust/Celik, I haven't landed on a Malmo player yet, and right now have Haksabanovic. Sundgren in defence and Linner are my AIK picks right now

Good picks! I'm also doubbling up on Häcken attack but going for Jeremejeff and Yasin. Seems like Alm prefers a top three of Paulinho - Jeremejeff - Yasin, although it will be tough to drop Celik after his goal scoring record in the cup. Irandust is a great pick, on set pieces as well.

Haksabanovic will be intresting to follow, unofrtunatly I can't afford him so I'm going for Thorarinson. He was the biggest bonus magnet in the league last season, and although they have limited the amount of bonus points rewarded he could easily get 2 attacking and 2 defensive bonus. Then he's on 6p without even scoring or assisting.

I've been cautious on Celik.. is it either Yasin or Celik to start?

The bonus is something I haven't really wrapped my head around. There will be some really great picks who gets consistent bonus and I need to really dig into that. Any other tips on who could be good picks largely because of bonus?

I think it's between Celik and Yasin, with Yasin currently having the advantage. He did very well on loan for Häcken two seasons ago.

It's difficult to find good picks judged by theire bonus potential, since it's not possible to sort by bonus points in the transfer page. From what I can remember, Thorarinson, Per Karlsson, Irandust, Eric Larsson were good on bonus to mention a few. This season, it will hopefully be more fair since a player can only be rewarded with 2 attacking and 2 defensive bonus points. Last season it was practicly impossible for strikers to get bonus, while a player like Thorarinson could pick up 5 attacking bonus points for making a million crosses.

Yeah I sorted by chances created and key passes and I think that is a good key to the attacking ones. But combining attacking and defensive bonus is hard to figure out

Hi guys, I agree that Yasin might be a very good pick. A very good indication for the ones thinking about Yasin was that Mohammed, Jeremejeff and Paulinho (the other 3 attackers) all got subbed off in the latest cup semi-final. Yasin didn’t and was Motm for me and the commentators talked a lot about how much stronger and better physically he looked compared to last season.

Just looking at the fixtures and IF Elfborg look strong - am I right?

Hammarby IF (H), IFK Göteborg (B), GIF Sundsvall (H), Östersunds FK (B), Örebro SK (H), IK Sirius (B)

Anyone else think Cibicki could get off to a great start? Kaib in defence is 5.0m and was 4th for defenders for chances created. Lundevall maybe overpriced but he looks like he's quite involved?

Fixtures looks great, but they were appalling last season (saying that as an Elfsborg fan) and I don't trust them to do any better this season. Cibicki is a good player, probably on pens as well, but I don't trust Elfsborg being attacking enough. Same goes for Lundevall who is theire main creative force, but who struggled with the poor management last season.

That said, I'm still sitting on Henriksson (4.0) as a 5th defender. Has started a few game sin pre-season and lack of competition will hopefully see him start games.

Owned Lundevall for their good run in last year and let's just say he was not scoring a lot of points, haha. The fixtures may look decent, but Elfsborg are an inconsistent side.

Does anyone think that 5-2-3 could be a good formation this year. Never play it in FPL but Allsvenskan is a very different league and I don’t see so many midfielders that I like the look of. However I think there is a lot of good value defenders this year. Thoughts?

I switched to 5 premium priced defenders early last season after noticing lots of teams were playing with wing-backs. No surprise that I moved up the ranks quite rapidly with them not only keeping clean sheets, but racking up nice little bonus points as well due to all the (succesful) crosses. 🙂

Personally, I'm no fan of 5-2-3. I don't have any stats to support it, but my gut feeling is that the football played in Allsvenskan generally isn't good enough to trust teams with clean sheets (except from AIK). A few other teams like Malmö, Häcken and Norrköping could potentially pick up doubble figure clean sheets, but the rest of the teams wont be as good. And in the end, clean sheets is the main source of points from defensive players.

Also not a fan of bringing in wingbacks or defensive penalty takers and rely on them to score attacking points. Sundgren the exception of course, since he combines that with clean sheets.

Thanks Meltens for an excellent write up! Nice to see FFS putting the spotlight on the Scandinavian fantasy games.

        My current draft:

        4.5 - 4.5
        Sundgren - Tamimi - Larsson - Lofkvist - Sandberg
        Yasin - Carlsson - Radetinac - Amin - Gustafsson
        Paulinho - Hallenius - Avdic

No specific goalie yet and even the strategy can change with perhaps a premium keeper such as AIK's. Quite settled on my defence, although doubling up on AIK defenders is also a consideration in case I go with 2 cheap goalies.

Midfield is where I'm struggling a lot. Gall and Rieks are the only two that appeal, but last season's rotation is what makes me wary of drafting them in again for the new campaign.

The two top strikers are 100% nailed and not leaving my team. I even think Paulinho is a must have?

Question about Sundgren... is he second in the spot-kick pecking order? I remember him taking one last season and defenders on pens are gold in fantasy football. 😉

Hi Gertjan, AIK has gotten 4 penalties during preseason/cup games and all of them have been taken by Sundgren and he has scored all 4. Goitom and Seb Larsson which are the other 2 potential penalty takers have been on the field at the same time so Sundgren looks to be the clear penalty taker at the start of the season. During AIKs last game that I watched against AFC, Sundgren also almost played as a right winger and had a lot of successful crosses that should have been scored. So Sundgren almost looks to be a must-have I think. Great pick if you have the budget

Good defensive picks, but not sold on the midfield and attack. I would look for more regular starters in midfield, and I'm not sure Hallenius is worth the price tag as I can see Sundsvall struggling more this season.

Paulinho is obviosly the best player in the game, but I'm confident that Jeremejeff can cover for him. As a comparation, I think of Jeremejeff like Mané and Paulinho as Salah in FPL 🙂

        Pettersson*
        Kossounou* - Brorson - Witry - Sundgren
        Irandust - Aiesh* - Andersson* - Fransson*
        Paulinho - Goitom
        (Amos - Jönsson* - Jarl - Mbo)

Here's an early draft of my Allsvenskan team. Currently I've just made sure to get in a few players that delivered points for me last season, along with Witry – who did well for Ranheim in Eliteserien before moving to Sweden. Not sure about DIFs clean sheet potential?

All players marked * are question marks for me, as I've not settled on formation or squad balance just yet. Any feedback on this draft is welcome 🙂

Yeah, guess any 4.0 option is. The current draft leaves 0.5 itb though, so I can stretch to a 4.5 option instead. Don't know who to pick though.

Great if Andersson is an option! He was more or less a placeholder in the current draft, but it's even better if he is a player to actually consider.

That's the thought. If he's a (sometimes) playing 4.0 def, that would be great, as funds could be spent elsewhere. There's the possibility to upgrade Jönsson to a 5.0.

No not must-haves, but I'm very interested in forward Vidar Örn Kjartansson (10.0) though. Could be a really strong shout!

I'm a bit uncertain how we will line up this year when it comes to the midfield so maybe wait a bit there, both Tankovic and Kacaniklic are at 8.5 and have potential, but I wouldn't gamble on them from the start.
Defensively we've been terrible for quite some time, so it's mostly for budget or attacking fullbacks that you would go there.

Vidar Örn Kjartansson looks like a very good option though.

Djurdjic is in a bit of a slump formwise and his attitude hasn't been the best in recent times. It seems the "incident" with him and the AIK-players celebrating winning the league might be weighing on his mind. Kjartansson coming in - what does it mean for him? Maybe we go two up top, maybe he drops deeper and maybe he's not a guaranteed starter anymore. Rodic hasn't always been nailed on and was very patchy in form last year, definite wait and see for me.

I mean you'd think so, why would such a quality player go there if he's not going to start pretty much all the time? I think that Kjartansson is as nailed on as it gets. There has been a lot of rumours about Djurdjic being loaned out. Kjartansson will also just stay for half the season so Hammarby will most likely play him every game because they would want the most out of him especially since they spent a lot of money on him.

Also, like with Eliteserien, I find this season's pricing difficult. Sundgren at 7.0, Paulinho at 12.0 and Goitom at 10.0 eats up quite a lot of the budget. We definitely need some decent budget options to field the premium players!

I love the Aiesh pick, I wish I could afford him, he's brilliant. I would look over Irandust (heard he's injuried but havn't checked on that), Fransson (great player, not so great in fantasy) and also the attack. I just think there are better, cheaper options like Obasi, Buya, Jeremejeff who could do the job and save some cash.

Thanks for the input; if Irandust is injured (or there are cheaper options to consider), I'll definitely look at that. He delivered some decent scores last season though, so he was in the draft early on.

I believe that Obasi and Goitom will start most games up front but Elyounussi and Ylätupa can also get some game time up front. Elyounussi has been playing more as a midfielder lately so I think Obasi and Goitom will start the majority of the games but probably not every single one.

That's interesting. Had Elyounussi in my team on a couple occasions last season, but if he'll play more in a midfield kind of role now, then he's not an ideal option. Will the risk of shared playing time between the strikers make it better to look at options from other teams – like Buya or Jeremejeff?

Toying with the idea of a Paulinho/Jeremejeff double-up, as that combo delivered a lot of points for me towards the end of last season.

Thats a good option. Jeremejeff is a good striker and plays in a system that fits him in Häcken compared to when he played for Malmö.

However I personally prefer Buya Turay or Nyman/Kjartansson if you have 0,5 more. They are all more nailed on to start every single game than Jeremejeff and I believe they have all proven themselves to be better strikers who has the potential to score more goals in a season. Jeremejeff is a good striker who will guarentee 5-10 goals but I would expect him to compete with the top goal scorers this season especially since he doesn’t take penalties and has Paulinho as hus teammate who will take away a few goals from him.

Jeremejeff's returns in the last half of the season is the only thing I base this double-up idea on – and you might be right about picking Buya Turay or Nyman/Kjartansson instead. I have the 0.5 to spend in the current draft, so I can stretch to the latter two. All depends if I want to upgrade Jönsson to a 5.0 def. Struggling a bit picking a 4th def that I can play every GW if needed.

Agree on Sundgren being as close to a must have as we can get.

Nice to see a Radetinac pick, in my view, by far, the best footballer in the league. Sadly for him he gets injured at about the same rate as I change my underwear. Not just niggles either, serious injuries.
I do believe he will be surpassed by Fransson from my dear team Norrköping this season though.
Now, as we all know being the best footballer doesn’t directly translate into fantasy points though.

Djurgården as a whole will be interesting to follow this season. Did not pro long the (WBA) Olsson contract which means others have to step up.
Their key players will be defender Erik Johansson, forward Buya Turay and (I’m not bitter) wizard Bärkroth. Bärkroth made his top league debut at the age of 15(Gothenburg’s), went abroad but never really made it. Went back to Sweden and signed for my beloved Norrköping where he became a big key for us winning the gold for the first time in 25 years. Stayed a while and then took a chance once again abroad(Lech Poznan) where he never really made it/got a chance.
Came back mid season and had the bad taste signing for Djurgården but with confidence shot from failing abroad were hardly recognizable. Now with a full pre-season and a bit of time to find himself again I expect him to get many points(assists and goals). The massive problem for Djurgården though is their incapacity to win derby’s, I think they somehow managed not to beat Hammarby or AIK from 2007 to 2018, ASTONOSHING!!!

        Someone mentioned Elfsborg.
They used to be a fortress at home but no more it seems. My only Elfsborg interest is a player they sold to Örebro, forward Prodell. And he is just on a short list. But if they show signs during pre-season and/or immidiate start, their defenders could be options as fixtures seem good.

Someone mentioned 5-2-3 as an option. I’m leaning towards just that or a 4-3-3 with Mentioned Rade, Fransson and a money-sucking option like Rieks. Early days yet of course.

Gonna say a bit about GIF Sundsvall also. Not close to being a top team but The shere distance makes playing away against them hellish.
They also have a Spaniard in Batanero that I would put in something like top 5 as a footballer in this league. If the very capable Forward Hallenius has a crazy conversion rate he(Batanero) could be worth a look fantasy wise. Hallenius will also get a releaved preassure from Maic Sema if he keeps playing like last season(schooled at the the same club I played for a lifetime ago).
Last but not least Sundsvall has amazingly managed to sign a very good defender in Pa Konate. Key to this is that it is a one year contract and I promise he won’t be there next season(maybe not even after summer break). He is just seeking sure gametime and will leave the country for bigger things.

I’ll try to put more thoughts out there as I suffer from nerve damage with excruciating pain and a long sick leave due to a broken health care system(which I pay crazy taxes for), but I’m not bitter....

Yup, Radetinac is interesting if he is nailed on and fit (two things which are far from certain). I don't know about Sundsvall, will they be able to be as good as last year really? Also as a Hammarby-supporter, I know too well the highs and lows of Linus Hallenius and even though he was great last year, it's not certain he remains it (especially at that price).

Nice contribution overall, it's good to get this out here 🙂

Nah I just figured no one would mention Sundsvall as they aren’t exactly the sexiest team but do have a few good players and the advantage of a long travel playing away to them

        5-2-3

        Petterson (Amos)
        Witry, Danielsson, Granli, Sundgren, Sandberg
        Yasin, Christiansen, (Åhman-Persson, Jarl, Åstedt)
        Nyman, Kjartansson, Antonsson

This is the team that I am currently going with. Any suggestions or advice would be very helpful. Something that I should change or think about doing differently? Thanks.

Wow, that's really good for a 5-2-3 team!

Kjaertansson will be a gamble, and I'm not convinced by Christiansen as a fantasy asset. Don't think he will score or assist enough for a 10.0 player, kind of like Seb Larsson.

Not convinced by a Djurgården doubble up in defence, theire new managers have a very attacking style of play and a record of rather poor defending (with a poorer team of course).

Would you always play 5-2-3? If so, a single goal against Djurgården and AIK would wipe out the point potential for 4 players. Could be risky. Cheers!

Thanks for the feedback Bob! I agree with a lot of your points. Christiansen is definetly a player that I can love but I am not sure about a lot of the midfielders this season. I am also thinking about getting rid of Granli since I think AIKs defense will be worse this year.

I also agree that Djurgården play a very attacking style of football since I actually know the manager personally. Witry and Danielsson however I think look like great assets. Witry has looked incredibly attacking during preseason and last game Danielsson was the one who took the penalty. If he is on penalties I think he could be really good.

Kjartansson I know is a gamble but I think it might be a good one since not a lot of people have him. He is guarenteed to start every game and has a incredible goal scoring record both in Sweden and Norway and Hammarby is a very attacking team usually I think.

Granli and Christiansen are the ones that I think about moving the most. Can definitely change formations if necessary. Any suggestions on who to replace them with?

I actually own both Witry and Granli myself, and I think they look like bargains. Witry seems very attacking, and if Granli is a regular starter then 5.0 for a AIK defender is amazing, kind of like Robin Jansson last year. I know Danielsson might be on penalties, but I think it's a bit to rich to chose a player based on a hope that they'll get 3-4 penalties.

Replacements are tough thou. I'm hoping that Norrköping will decide on Larsen/Castengren, if eighter one of them becomes a regular starter it could be worth a shot. Otherwise perhaps stick with Danielsson. Christiansen is a brilliant player, but since you already have Antonsson perhaps someone like Aiesh, Thorarinsson, Haksabanovic or Ajdarevic? I currently own Ajdarevic but that could just be a nostalgia pick since he was so fantastic last time he played in Allsvenskan. Djurgårdens schedule looks good for the first couple of games as well.

That’s some very good advice. Wasn’t aware of how much budget getting rid of Christiansen would free up. I agree with Danielsson too. Is risky to double up on a defence that will concede quite a lot. So therefore I think my new team is finished for now and I think it looks a lot better:

                4-3-3

                Petterson (Amos)
                Witry, Sandberg, Granli, Sundgren (Kossounou)
                Yasin, Ajdarevic, Haksabanovic (Jarl, Åstedt)
                Cibicki, Kjartansson, Antonsson

Wow, that is a brilliant team!

You've managed to find defensive coverage from Norrköping and AIK x2, attacking wingbacks like Sandberg and Witry and attacking coverage from Häcken, Djurgården, Norrköping, Malmö and Hammarby who are the most attacking teams in Allsvenskan.

You seem to have covered it all, while I try to convince myself that's not even possible. I got no attacking coverage from AIK or Hammarby, and no defensive coverage from Häcken or Norrköping but I just have to live with that.

Very good and interesting squad, I'm also (possibly) taking the gamble on Kjartansson, both for nostalgia/logical reasoning and of course, he's signed for the team I support so rooting against such a good player all the time would feel strange 😉

It’s very difficult because Witry is an attacking fullback who will get assists and attacking bonus points. Danielsson is a defensive centreback who will get defensive bonus points almost every game and currently takes penalties. I will personally go with Witry since he has looked extremely attacking during preseason and he is 0.5 cheaper and therefore he fits with my budget.

Danielsson is also a great pick since he got so many defensive bonus points last season and seems to be on pens. Don’t want to double up however on a defence that isn’t one of the best in the league. That’s why I have only chosen Witry but Danielsson may be a better pick. Very difficult.

Nice summary. I guess the 0.5m is huge when you talk about a team that won't get clean sheets.

It's hard to turn down a penalty taking defender, certainly. That'll be an interesting choice to watch

Yeah, very hard to leave someone out but at the same time you maybe don’t want to double up when there are so many good other defensive options this season that plays for teams which are usually better defensively. Sandberg, Granli, Sundgren, Ekpolo, Andersson, Bengtsson etc.

            Tough one!

I tend to automaticly chose the player with the easiest fixture on paper, which is not always the best idea. Torn between Buya and Antonsson at the moment. Had it on Buya but feel I might be fooling myself and that Sundsvall is not as easy to face anymore. Antonsson play against Häcken which looks more difficult, but surelt there will be a few goals in that game?

Milosevic, now in Nottingham Forest, will be sorely missed but I think they have such a solid system so the new guys in defence will have ready made roles. They have bought well too.

Ajdarevic will have games in which he seems like he can do whatever he wants with the ball and be unstoppable.

Sadly he’ll mix that up with games in which he can’t even hit a sideways pass.

He is a rollercoaster of fatasy fun.

Just a heads up. If you are looking at Östersund players to place into your team I would suggest to go in a different direction. There has been a lot of talks about the club possibly getting automatically relegated. Apparently the General Manager have used tax payers money to buy players and a lot of different things that break the rules. I don’t know the entire story but I know that they are going to court and it’s not a good place to be 2 weeks before their first game. If they don’t get automatically relegated I still think the club will struggle to focus on the actual games and not focus on this big scandal that has been discovered.

Right now it has just been discovered and all I know is that they are going to court. Based on the result, it could definitely hurt the club and their economy. Very possible that they can even get automatically relegated like Juventus got a few years ago. Off the things I have heard they have basically built the team and bought the players based of tax money and their GM was charged for financial exploitation about a year ago so It seems very likely right now that the club will get punished hard financially.

Didn't think it would affect me, but I swapped out Ravel Morrison for Thorarinson after this. The fact that Östersund play AIK and Malmö away in the first 3 games could also have played in.

Malmö had a (could be last) press conference ahead of the start of Allsvenskan. This ahead of their final training game away to AZ Alkmaar, a game that will be played behind closed doors(no media, no audience).

Several players will be missing the AZ game. Traustason, Binaku, Bachirou and Ahmedhodzic will all be on international duty.
Lewicki has a niggle and will stay at home. Same goes for Strandberg who has a stumack bug.

          Team tipped to play is
          Dahlin
          Nielsen, Bengtson, Safari
          Vindheim, Rakip, AC, Gall, Rieks
          Molins, Berget

Interesting part is that coach keeps faith in Molins up top and at least now prefers Berget over Antonsson.
On bench we amongst others find Dusan Melicharek, Eric Larsson and Bonke Innocent plus a few youngsters

Personally I'm avoiding good, exprensive players who are rotation risks. I wouldn't pay 6.5 for Larsson/Vindheim to find him benched every other week. Same goes for Gall 8.5. I'm also not interested in Christiansen/Seb Larsson who are brilliant players but dont get enough attacking returns for 10.0/9.0.

Thanks for all the ideas above.
HAM/GBG opening run looks decent so may still revisit them, but unsure about who/form atm. Need to have a look through pre-season info.
Shame Tamimi/Hallenius are so expensive this season.

                Pettersson /Amos
                Sundgre Witry Granli /Sandberg Kossounou
                Rieks Haksabanovic Celik Andersson /Jarl
                Jeremejeff Buya-Turay Obasi

Looks like a very good squad. Like it a lot. Dont expect Celik to start every game however but he is the top goal scorer in the cup so far so he looks to be very good this season but right now the competition at his position is very tough.

Yep it's just the lure of his many goals while browsing though flashscore friendly results.
Is there a site that summarises pre-season for Allsvenskan teams?

Not really but the preseason in Sweden is basically only cup games and this link shows how everybody finished in the groups and playoffs (the final is yet to be played and there are a lot of teams from the second division if you dont recognize them) https://sv.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Svenska_cupen_i_fotboll_2018/2019

                    Petersson
                    Larsson ekpolo Lindqvist tamimi
                    Gall jarl aiesh
                    Hallenius hagland Paulinho

                    Amos hellborg kossounou astedt

I think my bench is really weak but hoping the staring 11 makes up for it. Any transfers or tips appreciated.

Very good team! Some different picks in there. Gall and Larsson are probably going to rotate quite a lot since Malmö has so many good players in the same position as them. Haglund could be a very good pick but I think last season was a fluke for him. He is usually a defensive midfielder that was moved up front because of his heading ability. Can score 10 goals like last season, can score 2. Very difficult, but a god team overall I think especially since not having knowledge about Allsvenskan.

Yup I've started to come to terms with Gall and Erik Larsson from Malmö being rotation risks, even though in my mind they should play and provide points most of the time (but I don't pick the starting 11 ;)). I'd go as far as saying that when Gall plays, he will provide points but I understand the wish to pick nailed starters when new to the league! 🙂

Also maybe not relying on Jarl every week would be good, possible Hallenius downgrade?

Yeah I agree. Jarl will probably start every game but plays for the worst team in the league and wont score a whole lot of goals. Hallenius have never been close to score as many goals as last season before so he could very well be a one season wonder. Kjartansson, Antonsson, Obasi, Nyman and such are more proven goal scorers that have been scoring for years. I would prefer them at the start of the season at least because they are usually more consistent.

These are the teams that play their last pre-season games this weekend before Allsvenskan begins. Could be very interesting to look at all the line-ups.

                    Hammarby
                    IFK Göteborg

He's probably my favourite Vålerenga player from this decade. Ridiculous finisher, got 25 goals in 29 for us iirc. Glad he's finally getting some game time for Iceland.

Would welcome anyone who knows whether the following are at risk of rotation:

                      Linner (Amos)

                      Prodell / Hopcutt (Sylisufaj)

1.5 m to upgrade and no I don't want Paulinho! I don't like his lack of value.

Thank you. I realise Celik is but gambling on his Bosini esque pre season form. Replacements for those that I am looking at:

Larsson > Karlsson (Linner to any keeper)

                          Gall > Larsson/Rieks?

Ended up with this right now:

                              Linner (Amos)

Tamimi / Sundgren / Lindkvist (Krogh Gerson / Sandberg)

                              Rieks (V) / Christiansen (C) / Celik / Rodic / Jarl

                              Prodell / Kharaishvili (Sylisufaj)

Sylisufaj is the one I'm suspect of though he has played and scored in the cup.

After being completely satisfied with my team for about a week, I've made a full 180 turn and concidering bringing in Anders Christiansen, who I have recommended others to avoid for the past week. Three spots are open in my team, and these are the options:

                        1) Sandberg - Ajdarevic - Antonsson
                        2) Dagerstål - Christiansen - Obasi

Am currently on the first one, but concidering switching to the second one for various reasons.

Sandberg is a good option, but I already got Odilon and ain't keen to doubble up on Hammarby defence. And at 4.0 Odilon seems like fantastic value. Ajdarevic seems to play a little deeper now, and I already got Buya so that would mean doubbling up on Djurgården attack. Not sure on where Djurgården stand at the moment. Antonsson surely must be the main striker at Malmö, they just have so many good attacking playes and I fear that they might spread the points around.

A switch to the second option would mean I get defensive coverage from Norrköping who kept 11 clean sheets last season, Christiansen who is the Malmö player most nailed on to start, and also Obasi to cover the AIK attack.

                        What's your thoughts?

Can't speak with good knowledge about players, but do recall Christiansen getting random rotations/culled minutes last season. I'm on Rieks with similar concerns but feel some 'coverage' is needed, with 0.5m spare to consider Christiansen. Was it maybe more of an issue during periods of European games?

Have Odilon + Sandberg. The former for value, the latter for extra pts potential. Their early fixtures (ife, KFF, hif, AFC) probably suggest attackers over defs but uncertain about lineup. However with 2 AIK defs not sure when I'd start both HAM defs so I think you're right about double-up and I need to rethink Sandberg.

Don't know much about the other options, but I have Pettersson + Obasi atm.

                              Thanks!

I also recall Christiansen being rotated, but I don't think that will be the case now. When he re-joined Malmö last summer he had played a full season with Malmö 2017 and then half a season with Gent. No real rest, no pre-season and then straight into the Malmö team with European games which ment 2 games a week for pretty much the rest of the season. Now they have had better preparations and only Allsvenskan to focus on, think that will help. Rieks is of course a good option as well, however I'm worried about him playing too deep as a wing-back, and there are also much more competition for his role from Traustasson, Berget, Gall, Safari etc.

Fair points, and I didn't realise that about Christiansen. May find this useful esp for assessment of playing time and bps potential - e.g. https://www.fantasyguiden.se/spelarranking/malmo-ff/

Yeah, I watched that and realized that Christiansen averaged 1.19 attacking bonus per game, and had the 10th highest attacking bonus points last season despite playing only haf the season. His gametime was equal to 10 full games and he managed 2 goals, 8 assists and and average of 8.6 points per game. Not even I can argue with that 🙂

I feel like that 9.0-10.0 mid spot is tough to nail down this year. Currently I have Rieks and Haksabanovic but no guarantees they both make the final cut. Christiansen is interesting, just wonder if Rieks goal threat might be bigger?
Am I correct in my assessment that Christiansen is a bit of a "Christian Eriksen" för Malmö (just noticed that his name is a perfect combo of the Spurs player's name... :O)

For the record I think Cibicki or Kalle Holmberg could be interesting options at the Obasi pricepoint as well, but assuming he gets the starts he should indeed be good! =)

Yes I agree that it's a difficult price category. Haksabanobic and Ajdarevic are great players but might not have settled yet at theire new club. Then there are Aiesh and Irandust who will start and deliver points, but I still prefer Christiansen for Malmö coverage and Yasin for his goal threat.

I guess it's a fair comparation with Christian Eriksen, and I expect him to deliver all sorts of points - goals, assist, defensive bonus and attacking bonus. The same wil go for Rieks of course, and his goal threat should be bigger, I'm just concerned about the rotation there with Molins, Berget, Traustasson, Gall all fighting for a spot.

Kalle Holmberg was disappointing last season, and with more competition from Nyman this season his minutes could be reduced. And for Cibicki, as I've previosly mentioned, I think he's a top quality player managed by a complete amateur.

To me there are four brilliant strikers competing for the three attacking spots: Antonsson, Jeremejeff, Buya and Obasi, and since I find it so difficult to even leave one of them out, I'll defenitly make room for three of them. Currently going for Jeremejeff, Buya and Obasi, but could be a little biased since Obasi is one of my all time favourite players in Allsvenskan. He seems to love playing for AIK and this is the first time he's signed a contract for the whole season, hopefully it will pay off. I just think he's on a different level than the rest of the strikers in the league.

Hi guys! I have read through the thread and think there are a lot of good points made. I have gone with Buya, Antonsson and actually Kjartansson. Its a bit of a different pick but I kind of like it.

On the topic of premium midfielders Christiansen is probably the best player but I am very scared about that Malmö haven’t sold any midfielders and brought in another central midfielder in Rakip. Thinking about maybe going with Thorarinson and/or Romario as my premium midfielders together with Yasin who has already nailed down a spot for me. Thoughts about Thorarinson and Romario as premium mids, I know that they arent the most goalscoring threats but think there bonus points potential makes up for it. Thoughts?

The new max for bonus might impact some ”bonus monsters” a bit but yeah they should still be good! Romario on pens is a nice plus but I’m not sure Magnus Pehrson can be trusted to bring out the best in him. Thorarinson could be good, I just like goalscoring mids a bit more! 🙂

Yeah Obasi is really good, might still try to find the extra 0.5 to get him in! Holmberg was dissapointing last season but he has been starting all the cup games and should pair up with Nyman in attack, which could be great for him. As for Rieks, I feel he should start most games but of course, very few are ”safe”
at Malmö. Yasin I feel has lacked a bit of end product but he does seem favoured by Alm and plays in a very attacking position.

So do you think it will mostly be like in the cup for AIK with Goitom and Obasi up top, with Elyounoussi taking up a midfield role?

I havn't watched AIK enough, but they seem to have rather few options in midfield and up front, which bodes well for Obasi. I would expect Obasi and Goitom to start up front, with Elyounoussi as an attacking midfielder. The only other options Silva (not favoured last season), Ylätupa (unproven) and Saletros but I would expect them to fight for Elyounoussis spot rather than Obasis.

Yeah that seems reasonable. He's had some fitness issues in the past though Obasi, if I recall correctly? When he plays though he's superb at this level! Current front three I've actually managed to squeeze him in:
                                      Kjartansson - Buya - Obasi.

Obasi looks very good but the only thing that worries me about him is that AIK is such a defensive team and has struggled a lot to score at all lately. If they attacked for example like Häcken I would definetly put Obasi in my team. Still don’t think it’s a bad pick though by any means, just worried about how defensive AIK will play.

I agree that AIK is a rather defensive team, they did however manage to score 50 goals last season which was pretty much level with the other top teams in the league. They'll certainly be a top team this season as well, so I'm not too bothered about that 🙂
