Live Hall of Fame update: Sean Tobin leads the way from Mark Sutherns

The international break gives us the chance to study our recently updated Live Hall of Fame and analyse the team set-ups of those managers who feature in the top ten.

The ranking system that we speak of is applied to everyone who takes part in either of our Fantasy Premier League mini-leagues, with managers’ performances over the seasons then tracked to give a Hall of Fame (HoF) rating.

The live version has been updated to take into account Blank Gameweek 31’s results and can be viewed by Members via this link.

Further information on the FFS Hall of Hame is included at the bottom of this article, but alternatively, you can view this movie to listen to Mark and Rate My Team’s Chris Atkinson discuss the feature.

The Career version, which shows the standings at the end of last season, is free to view here or via the HoF tab on the home page.

2017/18 Career HoF Top Ten: Where are they now?

Three of the Fantasy managers who featured in the top ten of our Career Hall of Fame standings at the end of the 2017/18 remain in the list in our Live Hall of Fame rankings: namely Mark Sutherns (now 2nd), Marlen Rattiner (3rd) and Grant Barclay (4th).

Matthew Jones and Richard Clarke lurk just outside the top ten in 12th and 20th place, while Jay Egersdorff, Owen Walker, Paul Gee, Lester Cheng and Ville Rönkä sit 140th, 24th, 34th, 194th and 52nd respectively.

Live HoF Top Ten: Changes since Gameweek 26

Our last Live Hall of Fame article came after Gameweek 26 in mid-February.

Since then, there have been two new entrants in the top ten – Sir Edo Nygren (9th) and Mark Hurst (10th) taking the places of Matthew and Rick Beamish.

Sean Tobin remains top of our Live HoF and currently sits in 28th place in the world, while Mark S. – who topped the Live HoF going into Gameweek 31 having briefly entered the top 1k – remains second.

Marlen has risen from 9th to 3rd, while Grant drops one place to 4th.

Fabio Borges (5th), Aleksander Våge Nilsen (6th) and Alan Day (8th) have all climbed places within the Live HoF top ten, with Stephen Harrap moving down to 7th.

Sir Edo sits an impressive 85th in the world, while Fabio and Alan currently lie 336th and 352nd respectively.

Stephen and Aleksander are tied on 1,963 FPL points but Aleksander ranks nine places higher in 435th due to having made fewer transfers.

Current world number one Adam Levy deserves a mention, too – he sits 54th in our Live HoF after his stellar season, having been 2,549th in our Career Hall of Fame at the end of 2017/18.

Live HoF Top Ten: Chip Usage

Four members of our Live HoF – Grant, Stephen, Aleksander and Mark H. – used their Triple Captain chip in Gameweek 25.

The six other managers in our top ten retain their Triple Captain chips, while all ten bosses have their second Wildcard, Bench Boost and Free Hit chips available.

As we will discuss below, it seems likely that our managers will be deploying their Free Hit chip (or possibly their Wildcard) ahead of Double Gameweek 32.

Live HoF Top Ten: Blank Gameweek 31

All of our top ten managers fielded 11 players with a fixture in Gameweek 31, although Alan was let down by a no-show from Christopher Schindler.

Five of the FPL bosses above managed to get a full complement of players out without taking a hit, while four took a ‘-4’ to do so. Mark S. made four transfers at the cost of 12 points.

Live HoF Top Ten: Player Selection

As of Gameweek 31, the most popular FPL assets in our Live HoF top ten were as follows:

10 – Lukasz Fabianski, Mohamed Salah
9 – Eden Hazard
8 – Matt Doherty, Sadio Mane, Jamie Vardy
6 – Andrew Robertson
5 – Ricardo Pereira, Paul Pogba, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Salomon Rondon, Richarlison
4 – David Button, David Luiz, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Callum Wilson
3 – Felipe Anderson, Raul Jimenez, Lucas Digne, Ryan Fraser, Ashley Barnes

The average number of players per Premier League team owned by our top ten is as follows:

3.0 – Liverpool
1.8 – Leicester
1.6 – West Ham
1.4 – Bournemouth, Chelsea
1.3 – Wolves
0.8 – Everton
0.7 – Newcastle
0.5 – Huddersfield, Manchester United
0.4 – Brighton, Crystal Palace
0.3 – Burnley, Cardiff, Fulham
0.1 – Arsenal, Manchester City, Southampton
0.0 – Spurs, Watford

Live HoF Top Ten: Possible Strategies

We could very well see every single one of our Live HoF top ten use their Free Hit chips (or, alternatively, their Wildcards) in Gameweek 32.

There is only an average of 4.7 players with a Double Gameweek 32 in our featured managers’ squads (and that figure includes the likes of David Button and Aboubakar Kamara), suggesting these elite FPL bosses will be overhauling their teams during the international break.

Marlen is the only manager in our Live HoF top ten who owns a Manchester City asset (Ederson).

The highest number of Double Gameweek 32 players in one of our featured squads is six.

What makes the Free Hit seem the likelier option is that our managers are already well set to field full starting XIs in Blank Gameweek 33: our Live HoF top ten have an average of 12.1 players in their squads who have a Premier League fixture in that Gameweek.

Meet the Manager

Three of our Live HoF top ten have already filmed Meet the Manager episodes with Joe and these videos can be watched via the links below:

Sean Tobin
Mark Sutherns
Aleksander Våge Nilsen

Hall of Fame FAQ

How is my rating calculated?
The “HoF Rating” is based on your points scores from previous FPL seasons, with the latest season weighted the heaviest and each corresponding season weighted at roughly 80% that of the previous season. So, in other words, those who performed best in 2017/18 will receive a bigger HoF Rating boost from those who did best in 2007/08. The “HoF Ranking” even allows for those with missing years, adapting the formula accordingly to allow rookies to rank alongside the veterans of FPL.

How do I join the Hall of Fame
Simply sign up to our leagues next season, either the Fantasy Football Scout Classic League or if you’re a member, the Members’ Classic League – the code for the latter league is available on the dashboard of the Members’ Area.

How do I find myself in the Hall of Fame?
The search box at the top of the ranking tables allows you to search by surname or by FPL id.

What if I don’t want to be listed?
Either notify us via support@fantasyfootballscout.co.uk or simply leave the relevant Fantasy Football Scout FPL league and you’ll be removed on the next update.

When does the Hall of Fame get updated?
The Career table is available to all and is updated at the end of each season to display the latest rankings. The Live version of the Hall of Fame is updated throughout the season to reflect the scores of the current campaign.

Can you play around with a free hit team right up until deadline - like you can with a wildcard? Or do you only get one go? Cant remember from past seasons and cant see it in the FPL rules.

      Yes you can.
Beware of price rises, if you confirm an outgoing transfer for a player you have value tied up in, then decide you want them back, you'll need to pay the higher/current price.

Yep make as many transfers as you like. Good idea to try catch some price rises then closer to the deadline you can also drop those players.

Not sure we're going to get any double risers, seemingly most active players are using FH this week, and FH transfers don't count towards price rises, or so it seems.

Sterling the only player who might, but who wants to sell him ahead of 32?

I haven't been keeping up with price changes as I'm not on a FH. Its more general advice that I've found helpful in the past. You could still profit from a single price rise though in a FH, as to try to transfer someone in after their price rise is still going to cost you an extra 0.1.

Oh yes, if there were playing double rising it would be useful, but it doesn't look likely right now.
Lots of popular FH players were on -99% after missing GW31, so they need almost a triple rise, if that makes sense.

Looking to play either my TC chip or my BB chip (will use the other one in GW35 probably).

    So which scores more this week;
    A) TC Sterling or Aguero (ful, CAR)

    B) BB with Ryan (SOU, che) - Doherty (bur, MUN) - Jonny (bur, MUN) - Gunarsson (CHE, mci)

I'm definitely not going to have a full 15 man DGW squad again in GW35 so feel like being able to BB with effectively 8 players this week is great. But then again, concerns of Doherty and Jonny rested for FA cup is a concern and Gunarsson is almost nailed on a 4 pointer.

Also, I dont think you can get a better TC opportunity than Sterling or Aguero at ful, CAR - especially in a week which many are using FH so hopefully not many TC chips being played. Thanks in advance for your thoughts.

Hi guys, ive got pretty low TV here... im the only one doing the FH in my ML and no one has Kane, everyone has Hazard... got 100 points to make up to ML leader...

    Current FH team:

    Kepa
    Dluiz Duffy AWB Lindelof
    Haz Sterling DSilva Pogba
    Rash Kun

    Other option:

    Kepa
    Dluiz Duffy AWB Lindelof
    Sterling Dsilva Pogba Milli
    Kane Kun

So Kane and Milivojevic or Rashford and Hazard.

See what rashford's injury is like closer to the deadline. I think Rashford and Hazard score more points, dont worry too much about your rivals just play your own game and you'll make up those points hopefully.

If you're chasing 100 points, you are probably better placed going for a differential selection at this stage.

What do you mean, 'too much to cover'?

To catch a 100 point lead? - well you won't do it by picking the same players the leader has 🙂
At this stage of the season I'd say you need to take some risks/differential picks, you might fall further behind, but it's make or break time.

Made a mistake TC'ing Salah for a SGW earlier this season. Got a goal, but this week is prime for Aguero...

1 FT, Salah>Sterling to get 10 out, or roll the FT to boost my 8 BGW33 number up to 10 as well...?

    Ryan
    ROBBO Doherty Luiz WB
    SALAH Hazard Pogba
    Aguero(c) Jimenez Rashford

Not really. Hazard looks disinterested in playing for Chelsea. His mind is at Madrid.

I read somewhere a detailed article on him where it was clear that the numbers have gone down too .

Everyone on FH seems to be going with atleast 1 MCI and 1 CHE defender.

      Kepa 5.4
      Luiz 5.9

      Ederson 5.6
      Laporte 5.9

The cheapest pair is Kepa and Laporte.

Kepa won't be dropped again, for Willy it seems. Luiz could sit one out for Christensen. But Laporte who hasn't played the last 3, surely won't be playing friendlies, seems to be the more nailed route into the MCI defense.

      Again, only time will tell.

Posting here because the separate FH thread is such a depressingly ignored thread:

    (A) Ederson / Luiz / Montoya / 0 ITB
    (B) Kepa / Laporte / (Tomkins + 0.2 ITB) or (Schlupp + 0 ITB)

    Currently on (A) because:
    - Doubts regarding Laporte's playing time
    - (B) involves double Palace defence

The more I think about it, surely it’s not madness to assume Aguero MAY get 90 mins(ish) V Fulham then 30 or 60 V Cardiff then 90(ish) fa cup semi. 3 games in 1 week and surely Pep will think his squad can beat Cardiff with a rotated team.

Wishful thinking when going without aguero this week 🙂

Why so much love for a City triple attack? Only Aguero and Sterling look like they will play close to 180 minutes apart from Bernardo Silva, and whilst Bernardo gets lots of game time there are plenty of midfielders who outscore him for less. I think someone like Milivojević is a much better option, and cheaper too.

I'd love a reason to triple up on City attackers (so please provide one 🙂 ) but I just don't see it myself. I'd stick with two and get a defender. I think 1x clean sheet minimum is more likely than 1x Bernardo attacking return.

It's one of my new season resolutions. Go for the talismanic players for weaker sides rather than "the cheap guy who plays in an attacking position for that really good team and so must chip in with attacking points".

Not realising this has made me, in the last 12 months of so has made me pick the likes of Willian, Bernardo, and Martial (the latter instead of Pogba in the early days of the OGS revival 🙁 ), taking up important team slots which I could have filled with some nice defenders!

        1. jia you

Yep, its a simple but forgotten aspect of the game by many that, the whole talisman thing! I was seriously considering Bernardo but he looks a terrible pick when you look at his returns from his last 10 games...piss poor!

For me I'm boxed in by going with Kane.
Means I can't afford Hazard, and need to spend 7.5-8m on another midfielder, in that price range, it's B.Silva, Lingard, or Martial really.
I actually think B.Silva is a very solid pick.

I have double Chelsea defence, with Lindelof, and a 4.8m defender who I've not decided on yet. Schlupp or Duffy probably.

    5. Amey
      • 5 Years
      5 years, 8 days ago

I think he's involved in attacking play.

Fulham & Cardiff is too good an opportunity to miss out on the third city attacking spot.
If Sane. Was nailed I'd have got him in too.
      But he's not atm.
      So B Silva
      Defense wise I'm going with
Kepa Luiz Duffy Schlupp, which I'm happy with tbh

      1. Make Arrows Green Again

By the same logic, though - if you're saying that these opponents are poor (and I agree that they are) then isn't a clean sheet just as likely as a rare Bernardo goal or assist. It's not like he's completely immune from rotation either.

          Agreed CS wise.
          Disagree Rotation wise.
Pep has said this quite a few times that B Silva is un-droppable so i think I'm interested.

Bernard is a terrible pick, regardless of minutes. David in the other hand is an outstanding under the radar option imo. Confident of 110-160 minutes, and he can rack up a big score in that time. I think triple attack for best team in the league against two of the worst defences is just more fun

To be honest not a fan: Patricio, Otamendi, Shaw & Higuain all need reconsidering imo.

    2. Eze Really?

With Sane getting injured, 50/50 Bilva plays high on the left.
      Mendy can spoil this though.

        Sane isn't injured.

He suffered a horror tackle, and the player was red carded for it.
But after the match Lowe, and Sane both said he was fine, and available for Germany v Holland on Sunday.

    Rate my FH team

    Kepa
    Luiz - Laporte - Lindelof
    Hazard - Sterling - Pogba - Deulofeu
    Aguero - Lukaku - Bats

Very nice - same as mine but got Schlupp & Mili instead of Lindelof & Bats. Do prefer Mili over Bats though.

    Pick one

    A) Higuain + Deulofeu + Mariappa (3-4-3)
    B) Zaha + Milivojevic + Luiz (3-4-3)
    C) Son + McArthur + Luiz (3-5-2)

what are all your thoughts on city 3rd player

    a) attacker (sane, dilva, bilva)
    b) defender (ederson, laporte)

I feel the ceiling is higher for an attacker this week.. personally would like a punt on sane cause you know even if he gets one game he could do serious damage

Posted this on the RMT thread:

Sane is a punt - Cardiff and Fulham should be high scoring games. City have an FA Cup Semi Final and then tough games from 34 onwards (cpl, TOT, mun). I don't fancy many minutes for Sane in these so reckon his minutes will be brought forward for the easier games. Plus he owes me from the last DGW.

Yeah, you just know Sane is going to smash it this GW when barely owned. He’s definitely a gamble but give him minutes and his ceiling is high

Will he get those minutes is the question. Just feel Pep will use him in these easier games. His minutes since GW25 have been patch at best, however. Hasn't completed 60 minutes once and doesn't feature in every other game.

Yeah he’s definitely a gamble. I’m currently on D Silva, which feels safer albeit less explosive, and he himself isn’t guaranteed to start both

      I like Bilva.
Sane is too expensive atm for my team
I want Lukaku so can't get Sane.

Have you considered D Silva? Haven’t checked the stats lately but from mems he’s far more involved at the business end of the pitch and doesn’t cost a great deal more.

Which do you think scores highest this week?

    A) Ederson, Tomkins & Higuain
    B) Kepa, PVA & D Silva
