Captains

Captain Sensible – Deciding between Aguero and Sterling

As expected, the Double Gameweek 32 captaincy is centred around Manchester City’s two most powerful Fantasy assets.

Sergio Aguero (£11.8m) and Raheem Sterling (£11.6m) are the standout candidates and we’ll be assessing their credentials in this article.

However, we wouldn’t be doing our jobs properly if we didn’t also consider the other options.

We’ll be looking at all the best options four Double Gameweek 32, those who play two matches and those with just one.

Fantasy Football Scout members can enjoy our analysis of the data.

Captain Poll

Aguero has dominated the captain poll ever since day one and he currently has a 52% share of the vote. That’s no surprise considering his recent scoring record with eight goals in his last eight Premier League outings. Manchester City’s fixtures are also a huge factor of course, with Fulham (away) and Cardiff (home) about the most appealing pair of matches in Double Gameweek in recent memory.

However, his lead in the vote has shrunk ever since Sterling hit a hat-trick for England last Friday. Before the Three Lions thrashed the Czech Republic at Wembley, Aguero 61% backing and Sterling just 19%. The morning after, their percentages had changed to 58% and 22% respectively and by Sunday it was 55.9% and 26.9%.

As of the time of writing, Sterling is now up to 27.89% backing and it’s possible that in real terms his support among Fantasy Football Scout users is even higher than that. Unfortunately, you cannot change the recipient of your first and only vote in our poll, so there may be some who initially voted for Aguero but changed their minds after Sterling’s form for England.

The Manchester City pair are a long way off the other options considered in our poll. Eden Hazard (£10.9m) currently sits in third place but has the backing of just 5.4%. Chelsea’s fixtures aren’t quite as stellar as the Citizens’ but are still fairly appealing. The Blues also face Cardiff, although they are away from home, before Brighton come to Stamford Bridge on Wednesday. Hazard himself has just one goal in the last five Gameweeks but did score a combined total of 33 points in his previous encounters with Brighton and Cardiff earlier this season.

Harry Kane (£12.5m) is the fourth most popular candidate in the poll but very few managers are actually considering. We recently found out that he is the big hitter most likely to be left out by those playing the Free Hit chip in Double Gameweek 32 and that is reflected in our latest vote. Just 1.77% said they thought Kane was the best captain this weekend, with a trip to Liverpool and a home match against Crystal Palace.

Just behind the Spurs forward, and completing the top five, is Manchester City goalkeeper Ederson (£5.6m). Given that Cardiff and Fulham have hardly set the world on fire going forward in recent months, it’s no surprise to see interest in the Citizens’ defence. Their shot-stopper is probably the most popular of the captain picks at this end of the pitch because he is the only one nailed-on to start both matches of the Double Gameweek.

Paul Pogba (£8.9m) is the only other option to have more than 1% backing in the captain poll for Double Gameweek 32. Manchester United face Watford (home) and Wolves (away) over the next few days before both clubs then meet in the FA Cup semi-finals. There have been suggestions that the Red Devils will face rotated sides, which could bode well for their assets, but it remains to be seen how much that will affect their upcoming matches.

Aymeric Laporte (£5.9m), Raúl Jiménez (£6.8m), Leroy Sané (£9.3m) and Gonzalo Higuaín (£9.6m) complete the top 10 with scores of 0.87%, 0.71%, 0.5% and 0.5% respectively.

The most-backed single Gameweek player looks to be Alexandre Lacazette (£9.4m) but he only managed to pull in the support of 0.36% ahead of a home match against Newcastle.

Each to their own. Higuain’s record speaks for itself and he has already hauled i favourable fixtures. His stats back it up (most shots in the box in recent GW’s) and he was brought to the club by Sarri for a reason. With under 5% ownership I cannot understand why he is being dismissed so readily

He's been very poor on the eye over last few games. I think he could well score, but trust Chelsea defence more than there attack at moment, (though not by much). Jim has just been immense, against both weak and strong opposition.

Poor how? Because he hasn’t been dynamic? His movement in and around the box is fantastic and getting into good positions in the final third. Jimenez very likely will be rested against United with FA Cup in mind. He is still a great option imo but would prefer the lesser ownership

Few questions for the FFS communiity

    1. How much weight do you put in the change of Team/player form post an international break ?

    2. How many playing subs will you have on FH, is going with a bench full of fodder worth it ?

    3. Lastly 442 with kane and bench of fodder or 3-4-3 with rashford and 1 sub

I presume most are going with Sterling + Aguero. What's your opinions on the third City Asset? Defensive asset in Laporte/Ederson or attacking asset in D.Silva/Sane/B.Silva?

The potential for more points is with going with the attacking players but they are much more likely to be rotated I'd guess?

Depends on whose more likely to start both games for me as they'd have a better chance to return if they are getting decent minutes in both games , no one can tell obviously which means we'll have to take a chance. Some will get it right some wrong and that's what it usually comes down to most of the times

According to the CS odds, Man City have an approximately 25% chance of keeping two CS’s (50%*50%)

Been considering Dilva all week with his rest over the IB, plus Sterling, Sané, Jesus, Bilva all playing multiple games and travelling...

The fact that Ederson has approximately 25-30% chance of getting 12 points might seal the deal

3-4. I think they will score vs Pool and win vs Palace at new stadium 2 or 3. I just don't think theirs many other great options up top, looks like Lukaku will be out so would be looking at a Palace striker maybe then it's where do you invest all the spare cash.

So about 15-ish points for Kane? That’s just over 1 point point per million... so Jimi needs 7 to match him, Rashford needs 7, Bats needs 6, Higs needs 9 etc...

I just don’t see the value in Kane personally unless folks think he’s going to score 20+, but you never know!

Well, to match him they would need 15 points in that case... Would have to compare what the other asset gets you that you use the spare money on.

As far as I understood, OGS made his pressers yesterday and the talk was dominated by contract extension, no update on team status. Does that mean we will not get any updates on Rashford and Lukaku injuries before the deadline ?

I will not risk it and go with Bats and use the cash elsewhere. I was thinking this even if both were confirmed fit.
