Captains

Captain Sensible – Deciding between Aguero and Sterling

As expected, the Double Gameweek 32 captaincy is centred around Manchester City’s two most powerful Fantasy assets.

Sergio Aguero (£11.8m) and Raheem Sterling (£11.6m) are the standout candidates and we’ll be assessing their credentials in this article.

However, we wouldn’t be doing our jobs properly if we didn’t also consider the other options.

We’ll be looking at all the best options four Double Gameweek 32, those who play two matches and those with just one.

Fantasy Football Scout members can enjoy our analysis of the data.

Captain Poll

Aguero has dominated the captain poll ever since day one and he currently has a 52% share of the vote. That’s no surprise considering his recent scoring record with eight goals in his last eight Premier League outings. Manchester City’s fixtures are also a huge factor of course, with Fulham (away) and Cardiff (home) about the most appealing pair of matches in Double Gameweek in recent memory.

However, his lead in the vote has shrunk ever since Sterling hit a hat-trick for England last Friday. Before the Three Lions thrashed the Czech Republic at Wembley, Aguero 61% backing and Sterling just 19%. The morning after, their percentages had changed to 58% and 22% respectively and by Sunday it was 55.9% and 26.9%.

As of the time of writing, Sterling is now up to 27.89% backing and it’s possible that in real terms his support among Fantasy Football Scout users is even higher than that. Unfortunately, you cannot change the recipient of your first and only vote in our poll, so there may be some who initially voted for Aguero but changed their minds after Sterling’s form for England.

The Manchester City pair are a long way off the other options considered in our poll. Eden Hazard (£10.9m) currently sits in third place but has the backing of just 5.4%. Chelsea’s fixtures aren’t quite as stellar as the Citizens’ but are still fairly appealing. The Blues also face Cardiff, although they are away from home, before Brighton come to Stamford Bridge on Wednesday. Hazard himself has just one goal in the last five Gameweeks but did score a combined total of 33 points in his previous encounters with Brighton and Cardiff earlier this season.

Harry Kane (£12.5m) is the fourth most popular candidate in the poll but very few managers are actually considering. We recently found out that he is the big hitter most likely to be left out by those playing the Free Hit chip in Double Gameweek 32 and that is reflected in our latest vote. Just 1.77% said they thought Kane was the best captain this weekend, with a trip to Liverpool and a home match against Crystal Palace.

Just behind the Spurs forward, and completing the top five, is Manchester City goalkeeper Ederson (£5.6m). Given that Cardiff and Fulham have hardly set the world on fire going forward in recent months, it’s no surprise to see interest in the Citizens’ defence. Their shot-stopper is probably the most popular of the captain picks at this end of the pitch because he is the only one nailed-on to start both matches of the Double Gameweek.

Paul Pogba (£8.9m) is the only other option to have more than 1% backing in the captain poll for Double Gameweek 32. Manchester United face Watford (home) and Wolves (away) over the next few days before both clubs then meet in the FA Cup semi-finals. There have been suggestions that the Red Devils will face rotated sides, which could bode well for their assets, but it remains to be seen how much that will affect their upcoming matches.

Aymeric Laporte (£5.9m), Raúl Jiménez (£6.8m), Leroy Sané (£9.3m) and Gonzalo Higuaín (£9.6m) complete the top 10 with scores of 0.87%, 0.71%, 0.5% and 0.5% respectively.

The most-backed single Gameweek player looks to be Alexandre Lacazette (£9.4m) but he only managed to pull in the support of 0.36% ahead of a home match against Newcastle.

Can’t settle on my last 3 slots 2 fed and gk

    What’s better

      A. Walker is an over priced Ederson, both are nailed for clean sheets. Duffy has been impressive recently, he's been coming up with returns in three of his last six matches.

Ederson then Laporte. But would only be confident in Ederson playing full mins.

100% this. I'd even go Mendy over the others if you have one vacant city spot. That is if pep says he's fit ofc, even if he only played one game I'd reckon he has a good chance of outscoring all those you mentioned in one game (bar Laporte)

    Patricio
Van Dijk - Doherty - Luiz - AWB

I disagree with JTreble and think you will get a fantastic score. I'm on FH and believe TC'er with a decent structure like yourself will do very well. I just have a feeling Liverpool will run riot against Spurs so owning VVD and Mane especially is a great differential this week. If Sterling returns you're laughing. Good luck

Lucas Moura - Pedro - Sane - Martial
    Jesus - Zaha - Deeney

And we will all say. I should have known.

I'd probably still prefer Hazard and D.Silva.
Although, if you could do Martial, and then get Ederson that would pay off. As has been said a few times, a city defender is the logic way of returning points this week, a 3rd attacker is the exciting, but more risky choice.

Who do you think will find form and step up to score big this GW, and why?

Maybe someone who hasn't had a double digit score in a while, who has a series of no attacking returns, or has very low ownership.

Do you think it will be an already-established name in many of our sides or someone who is a major differential?

Have you seen something in a someone's play or in their stats to make you think they could be ready for a breakout GW?

I think Fraser is going to be in beast mode again against Leicester. 2 goals and an assist in the reverse fixture. That said I haven't brought him in as I chose Martial. I also have a good feeling about Ashley Young this week

Nice picks! Martial and Young are two I'm looking at. But I might be going Shaw for price reasons.

Surely CHO will start one of the games and get some time off the bench in the other for Chelsea. At £4.2M he could be a great option.

Not at all, difficult to find a better one. The only debate would be 1. Maybe aguero over sterling? 50/50. 2. If you'd be better off deploying another chip this GW.

        Best of luck!

fellow Free hitters: If OGS (for whatever reason) doesn't give us any update on injuries, what's everybody thinking? Can we still pick rashford and/or Martial (for those considering)? I want to but it seems really difficult to justify. And *if* martial, lukaku and rashford are all out, that makes Pogba much less appealing as well, doesn't it?

Got a spare 1.1 on my FH.

Atm I’ve got A, but can afford B. Thoughts?

      A) Kepa, Lindelöf
      B) de Gea, Rudiger

          A) is double Chelsea defs triple city attack n B) is 1 chels 1 city defs with Higuaín

I suspected as much, just wanted to confirm. I'd probably go B atm because I think Higuain will get more shots on target and therefore more likely to score, while I don't think there's much difference in potential CS between kepa/ederson.

For me he was the weakest link of the template already and after injury news in their attack, Pogba>Martial did not look that bad but you are right, if he scores 10+, I will be in trouble with the ownership he has.

Anyone else tempted by Kane at home to HUD for their TC?

I know its between Champs league games but we all know what he is willing to do to finish top goal scorer!

DGW 35 him away at City and home to Brighton has more appeal to me. If he has a good game even if they lose to City (big game goals), then home to Brighton could be gold

Would be if I wasn't wildcarding that week. As it stands I'll probably stick it on him in 38 at home to Everton for the reasons you mentioned, plus Spurs scored 6 at Goodison earlier this year and it will probably be Silva's last game so could see Everton players downing tools.

Don't see any of that happening. Everton will finish strongly. Silva will get another transfer window or 2. Spurs season will be done and dusted by then.

Spurs might be done and dusted, but Kane always goes til the end for goals and may even be better for that if the game is effectively a dead rubber. I keep thinking of that mad final day game vs Leicester last season. In any case, I'm out of options as 35 will be BB for me and there's no way I trust Salah with it anymore.

Really like this idea, the last day of the season is always a free for all when teams have nothing to play for. Also in the same boat as you on the chip strategy hence looking for a SGW! Good luck anyhow!
