Sterling, Silva and Bernardo benched as Guardiola rotates heavily

Double Gameweek 32 comes to a head on Wednesday evening with three Premier League matches that all kick off at 19:45 BST.

Crystal Palace are the visitors to Tottenham Hotspur’s new stadium, while Manchester City and Chelsea host Cardiff City and Brighton and Hove Albion respectively.

The headline team news at the Etihad sees Pep Guardiola make seven changes, with Raheem Sterling, Bernardo Silva and David Silva among the players to drop to the bench.

Kyle Walker and Ilkay Gündogan are also among the substitutes, while Nicolas Otamendi drops out of the match-day squad.

Guardiola had previously ruled Sergio Aguero out of tonight’s match, so it is no shock to see Gabriel Jesus leading the line for City.

Leroy Sane and Riyad Mahrez will flank the Brazilian, while there is a first Premier League start of the season for Phil Foden.

Fernandinho, John Stones and Danilo are also recalled.

Neil Warnock has made only one change, with Harry Arter being replaced in the starting XI by Joe Ralls.

Maurizio Sarri has matched Guardiola in making seven alterations.

Eden Hazard returns to the Chelsea starting XI following his benching at Cardiff on Sunday, while there is a full Premier League debut for Callum Hudson-Odoi.

Gonzalo Higuain makes way for Olivier Giroud, while Emerson Palmieri replaces the injured Marcos Alonso.

N’Golo Kante, Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Andreas Christensen are recalled as Willian, Pedro, Ross Barkley, Mateo Kovacic and Antonio Rudiger drop out.

Chris Hughton has made four changes, the most eye-catching of which sees the fit-again Florin Andone replace Glenn Murray up front.

Solly March, Bruno and Gaetan Bong all start at the expense of Anthony Knockaert, Martin Montoya and Bernardo.

Son Heung-min returns to the Spurs starting XI, replacing Lucas Moura in the Lilywhites’ attack.

Ben Davies is preferred to Davinson Sanchez in Mauricio Pochettino’s only other change.

Roy Hodgson has brought Cheikhou Kouyate, James McArthur and Martin Kelly into his starting XI and benched Scott Dann, Max Meyer and Andros Townsend.

That means Jeffrey Schlupp will move even further upfield on the left of a front three, with Wilfried Zaha switching to the right flank.

Chelsea XI: Arrizabalaga, Azpilicueta, Christensen, Luiz, Emerson, Kante, Jorginho, Loftus-Cheek, Hudson-Odoi, Giroud, Hazard.

Brighton and Hove Albion XI: Ryan, Bruno, Duffy, Dunk, Bong, Bissouma, Stephens, Propper, March, Andone, Jahanbakhsh.

Manchester City XI: Ederson, Zinchenko, Stones, Laporte, Danilo, Fernandinho, Foden, De Bruyne, Sane, Mahrez, Jesus.

Cardiff City XI: Etheridge, Peltier, Morrison, Manga, Bennett, Gunnarsson, Ralls, Camarasa, Murphy, Hoilett, Niasse.

Tottenham Hotspur XI: Lloris, Alderweireld, Vertonghen, Davies, Trippier, Sissoko, Eriksen, Rose, Alli, Son, Kane.

Crystal Palace XI: Guaita, Wan-Bissaka, Tomkins, Kelly, Van Aanholt, Kouyate, Milivojevic, McArthur, Zaha, Batshuayi, Schlupp.

    Essential players for GW33?

    Mane, Hazard, Vardy, Firmino, Aubameyang...?

    BGW 33 team:

    Boruc
    Robertson VVD Azpi AWB
    Brooks Hazard Salah
    Vardy King Rondon

    Fabianski Snodgrass Pogba* Doherty*

    * = blank

    1 FT, 1.0 ITB

I know Boruc is a doubt, but Fab can replace him and not sure its worth using the FT on the keeper?!

Other than that, what change(s) should I make??

    Will play WC34

I'ts an interesting time to TC, certainly very brave. The big hitters have bad fixtures and the alternatives will be big differentials. Arsenal look a decent bet but you will probably limit yourself to Laca or Lacazette, how much game time will you get from them?

Yes but which player? Murray may not play both. In the back they let goals lately... you may as well go for Etheridge dgw. 6 points just from saves plus a possible cs or penalty save and bonus he can easily reach 10 points or more.

        1. Michael_Scott
          • 13 Years

Murray won’t start both unfortunately. Was thinking Duffy. Good chance of at least 1 clean sheet and possible goal treat.

Etheridge isn’t a bad shout. I’d be very happy with 10 points by 3 for my TC.

      Even though I'm going WC34, I think I'll TC35 and then BB36, against 'convention'.

I'll have a few Brighton players, and maybe even Camarasa in my WC team and don't particularly want to BB them in 35. Gives me the option to TC Aubameyang or Kane in 35 and then BB with a very strong team for 36.

    11. The Rumour Mill
      • 7 Years
      4 years, 12 months ago

From my personal point of view I'm most likely wildcarding in 34 and bench boosting in 35, so need to play TC in either 33, 36,37, or 38.

To give myself the best chance I would like my TC to be played on a player who hits the following criteria, preferably all, but at least the majority of these:

      Is nailed on to play
      Playing for a motivated side
Playing for a side who are strong in attack
      Has multiple routes to points
      In some sort of form
      Is at home
Is a "talisman" of his side (high goal involvement percentage)
      Playing against a weak defence
      Playing against an unmotivated side

Using this criteria seems to present me with:

      GW33: Hazard, Vardy
GW36: Salah, Mane. Kane appears to hit the criteria this week too, although West Ham have a habit of turning up against Spurs, so I'd probabaly rule him out on that basis.
GW37: Possibly Aubameyang/Lacazette, relies on Brighton being safe though and Arsenal still fighting for 4th in the PL and not impacted by EL rotation concerns. Hazard if Watford on the beach and Chelsea still fighting for 4th and not impacted by EL rotation concerns. Rashford or Lukaku. Jiminez
      GW38: Rashford or Lukaku, Kane

Based on what we know right now, I think Mane home to Huddersfield in GW36, Jiminez at home to Fulham in GW37, and Rashford/Lukaku home to Cardiff (if Cardiff are relegated) /Kane home to Everton in GW38 are my favoured options.

Nice analysis mate! Mane vs hudds sounds like the one that ticks all the boxes. The rest are more exciting gambles esp Jim vs Fulham or Hazard vs west ham/Watford.

Cheers 🙂 Yes I agree with you about Mane. If he keeps playing well up to that game then thats likely who I will go for. He is quite a streaky player though, so if he does nothing in the next 3 gameweeks I'm likely to not do it. Hazard is such a troll that I'm loath to even put a normal captaincy on him haha! Jiminez is probabaly my second choice after Mane because of that. Just have to hope Wolves stay motivated to the season end though, thats the major risk with him.

Good HT. Difficult for me to see past Liverpool at home to Huddersfield. Just a question of whether to pin my hopes on a certain Mo...….

I think I will wait until until 37 or 38. Kane could well score big at the end of the season and Everton are defensively useless at the best of times. The last round of fixtures seem to have a lot of goals due to players mentally checking out.
United are an option as they have two cracking fixtures against hud & CAR, however Pogba doesn't look in the best of form and Rashford isn't that explosive. It's a nice problem to have at the end of the season though.

      One of:

      A - Salah/Mane v Huddersfield (GW36)
      B - Auba v Brighton (GW37)
      C - Kane v Bournemouth (GW37)
      D - Lukaku/Rashford/Pogba v Cardiff (GW38)

I was out the fpl loop for a while which resulted in me FH'ing in gw 31 which has left me in a right mess for 33 with only 6 players.
    Lloris (Steele)
    Robbo TAA Luiz WanB Shaw
    Hazard Sterling Pogba Fraser Hudson-Odoi
    Aguero Rashford Jimenez

Looking at maybe Lloris, Sterling, Rashford > Schmeichel, Mane, Vardy (-8 to field 9 players, 10 if you count CHO) or maybe something more drastic?
    Thoughts?

I am in a similar position and have done a -16 to get 5 extra players (Salah, Haz, Vardy, Laca, Brooks). The way I see it, even if all blank they’ll get 10 points anyway

I was thinking maybe go mental, Mane, Vardy, Laca, Ramsey/Tielemans/Maddison, Schmeichel/Kepa in… its basically a -8 extra for Laca and one of the mids, will they score more than 8 between them? I'd think there's a decent chance, just need one return plus the hopefully 4 points for starting and playing 60 each.

I think one player is enough. Brighton are frustrating that they always concede when you think they are set for a home clean sheet. Their players are good value and will definitely fill 1-2 spots in a WC team. Murray can look good but doesn't play every minute, I prefer other options at his price. Duffy is a definite and Ryan is a good option at his price and you are content with a double up.

Think I may give the armband to hazard ahead of the lpool players this weekend.

Saints may give lpool a good test on Friday night - and having the Monday night captaincy always a nice thing to pin hope's to.

Plus west ham looked completely on the beach last weekend v Everton.

    Anyone thinking this too? Thanks

You mean what your GW31 team would have been if they’d all played 32 instead of free hit? Cos my 31/33 players would have scored 52 and my FH32 team scored 90, so I rank that as a success. (Of course if I hadn’t planned to FH then I would have had a very different team, so the point is moot, but still.)

    GK Allison
    DEF Perriera, Luiz, Kola
    MID Salah, Siggy, Mane(c), Fraser
    FWD Wilson, Lacazette, Vardy

    Subs Maguire, Rice, Pogba

Wonder if Morgan will keep his place so I've placed Maguire first sub.

    Is Vardy a potential captain?
