Liverpool assets return to forefront of captaincy debate

Liverpool assets are expected to return to the forefront of the Fantasy Premier League captaincy debate for Blank Gameweek 33.

You can now vote in the latest poll embedded in the article below or in the sidebar of our website.

After being shelved by many for their solitary fixture in Double Gameweek 32, a trip to Southampton on Friday night is a lot more appealing for Jurgen Klopp’s men.

The Saints have just one clean sheet at home since Gameweek 11 which should help interest in the Reds’ attacking assets, even if they have just two goals in their last three away matches and have netted more than one in just one of their last six road trips.

It will be interesting to see what backing Mohamed Salah (£13.2m) can achieve in the poll as he has mustered just two assists since Gameweek 27.

Sadio Mané (£10.0m) remains in much better form than the Egyptian over recent weeks, with three double-figure hauls in his last six outings, but he is still owned by fewer managers, which could affect the vote.

Outside of Liverpool, Chelsea options probably look the most appealing.

Eden Hazard (£11.0m) secured a 15-point haul in Double Gameweek 32 ahead of West Ham’s visit to Stamford Bridge.

The Hammers are in a very poor run of form with injuries plaguing every area of the team too.

Particularly struggling to trouble opposition defences right now, Manuel Pellegrini’s men might even inspire some differential captain interest in the likes of David Luiz (£6.0m) or Cesar Azpilicueta (£6.3m).

However, with both Liverpool and Chelsea showing some patchy form of late, this could be an opportunity for Fantasy managers chasing leads to look elsewhere.

Reinvigorated Leicester City travel to already relegated Huddersfield Town on Saturday afternoon with Jamie Vardy (£9.0m) and Youri Tielemans (£6.1m) the form options.

Bournemouth also have an appealing fixture against Burnley at the Vitality Stadium, where Ryan Fraser (£6.2m), Josh King (£6.5m) and Callum Wilson (£6.5m) have all recorded the majority of their attacking returns this season.

    Which one folks?

    a) Diop to Kola, Pogba to Maddison, playing King/Vardy upfront (-2 hit*)
    b) Diop to Kola, Keep Pogba, playing King/Vardy/Rondon upfront (FT)

Now Huddersfield confirmed relegated, will they go for it a bit more? or take some risks with the line up?

Feeling like it could play into resurgent Leicesters hands, have the captaincy on Vardy atm.

Not keen on Liverpool vs. S'Ton, think it could be a tough game.
Hazard vs West Ham is tempting, but Sari has probably learned nothing and will go back to his usual, boring line up.

Yes but defining a haul as anything over 10 points he reads:

          18/19 (2 hauls)
17/18 (2 hauls - first and last GW of the season)
          16/17 (3 hauls)
          15/16 (6 hauls)

      Exactly same mate.
Southampton can frustrate Liverpool & don't trust Hazard atm especially against such enigmatic WH team.

      Vardy is safest © option.

Re Hudds being relegated, it's only mathematically confirmation imho, they accepted that relegation when Wagner left them

I've heard some rumours of Siewert having already fallen out with a number of his senior players and is on the verge of completely losing the dressing room, according to the TFS podcast on Monday. This is the main factor thats pulling me towards a Vardy captaincy, as well as Huddersfield just being awful anyway. I dont think the relegation confirmation will make much difference tbh, they've known they're going down for a long time now.

Agree with you on the liverpool and Chelsea reservations. They also both have European matches midweek, Chelsea play Monday-Thursday aswell so have very little rest. Could see rotation again or managed minutes.

Think he will surely come in now it's the latter stages and they have a decent shot at winning it. Suspect that was partly why he was rested in the first of the DGW this week.

He hasn't done up to this point.....doesn't mean it will stay that way forever though! He could try and win the tie in the first leg so who can rest them all in leg 2, its plausible at least. We shall see.

Think Vardy could be a decent option can see Leicester getting a huge win.

Wouldn't trust Hazard, Chelsea are inconsistent and despite West Ham being rubbish right now they're also incredibly unpredictable and usually perform better against the top 6 sides, getting wins against Arsenal and United and draws against Chelsea and Liverpool earlier in the season.

Don't really think you can look past Mane. Every game is huge for Liverpool now and Mane is in such good form. 9 goals in his last 10 PL games speaks for itself really

Vardy is almost guaranteed to score, but the fact he isn't explosive doesn't make him a captain candidate to me.

Hazard was lucky to haul last night as his form doesn't inspire confidence at all. Plus, the London Derby is usually nervy and quite low scoring. Could go either way.

With all said, say what you say about the Liverpool game, but with them desperate for a result (against a Soton team that aren't playing for anything anymore at this point), I guess Mane/Salah are the ones to pick (mainly Mane, given the latter's poor form).

      1. F_Ivanovic
        • 8 Years

When you say guaranteed you score... it's more like 50/50. Salah and Mane both slightly less likely to score but not by much + they have more chance of a haul (also more points when they do score)

It’s between Salah, Hazard and Vardy from my team

      Salah is out of form.

Hazard is a troll and West Ham seem to up there game for these type of matches.

      Vardy
      Nailed
      90 minutes
Improved form from him and club
Playing worst team in the league

Current tinkering draft of WC34/ BB35
    What do you think?:

    Ryan, Gunn
Robbo, Kolas, Duffy, Doherty, Valery/ Bedna
    Mané, Bilva, Son, Jota, Deulo
    Kun, Kane, Jimi

Also considering instead: Gunn, Son > Foster, Martial

    Thoughts appreciated!

I like it pretty similar to what I will go with.

Martial just worries me more with nailedness and Son’s ceiling is higher

        Exactly
He is more nailed than the rest as Pep loves him and capable of decent returns as we’ve seen

It’s a big few weeks for MCI and I think Kun is slightly more nailed than Sterling so that’s why I’m currently on this setup

That's impressive. I once read that Norway has the most registered footballers per 100,000 people around the world so higher levels of interest in the game would explain their proficiency at FPL.

Interesting! It doesn't explain the lack of results for the national team tho...
Anyway, must have something to do with a lot of interest for English football in general

Captaincy: Vardy vs Huddersfield or Mane vs Southampton( his old club)?

    1. Rains of Castamere
      • 9 Years
      5 years, 17 days ago

I'm on Vardy but then daft things pop into my head like the fact Hamer knows him from his Leicester days which means he'll save a Vardy penalty leaving Vardy on 0pts with the armband and this classic case of overthinking is why I'm having a poor season and so I'll probably just captain Salah.

My old man's playing fantasy for the first time this yr, he had used all his chips by xmas yet outscored me in 31 & then took a 36pt hit & ended up with 160 pts to my 89 for the DGW. You've got to laugh.

Who are the GW31 players that people regret seeing in their GW33 teams?

    Anderson?
    Arnautovic?
    Diop?
    Higuain?
    Alonso?

Anderson and Fabianski, but I wasn't happy to see them in GW31 either

    A) Felipe A to Maddison

Stop comparing yourself to your rivals. Solidify a good OR and you’ll naturally beat your rivals..
