Scoutcast Episode 290 – Trigger Happy

Buoyed by a largely successful Free Hit in Gameweek 32 the Scoutcast crew are eager to squeeze the trigger on another chip.

This week’s edition is dominated by Joe, Az and Andy’s early Wildcard drafts for Gameweek 34 and the players they are backing for success for the season run in.

But before they can fully focus on their Wildcard there’s the small matter of Gameweek 33’s reduced fixture list to contend with. The crew take in a raft of community questions about the best assets to bring in, whether as a one week pre-Wildcard punt or for the rest of the campaign.

Elsewhere they look back on the drama of the biggest Double Gameweek of the season, including the community’s roughest and smoothest moves.

Gameweek 33’s differentials, clean sheet and captaincy tips are also considered.

Although Joe and Andy seem settled on their next armband target, Az dons his Columbo mac for a “just one more thing” moment to make them doubt their decision.

    So, what do with Higuian.....

Surely Giroud plays in the EL on Thursday. Would he start on Monday too? Seems unlikely

My one week transfer before WC will be him to Wilson/King or Fab to Kasper

Do we have a view on what effective ownership (EO) in top 10k will be for Salah, Mane, Hazard and Vardy this gameweek

Mostly want to know whether any of these will be over 100% EO to factor into captaincy pick.

I hate it when a player I own is over 100% EO in top 10k as I’m then cheering for them to blank.

Who are we entrusting with our armbands this week then?

Eden Hazard, Mohammed Salah and Sadio Mané lead the charge on the Captains Poll with Liverpool away at Southampton tonight and Chelsea facing West Ham at Stamford Bridge on Monday, but whilst you never seem to know what you’re going to get with Chelsea and Southampton looking much improved under Ralph Hasenhüttl, could there an opportunity to move up the ranks by looking elsewhere this weekend?

If I owned Leicester’s Jamie Vardy then I would be seriously considering him for the captaincy - The Foxes travel to an already relegated Huddersfield Town tomorrow on the back of three wins on the bounce whilst Vardy has 6 goals in his last 7 games. Perhaps unlike under previous boss Claude Puel, I think Leicester can be expected to try and put Huddersfield to the sword under the attacking management of Brendan Rodgers and Vardy could prove to be a deadly differential.

Who are you captaining this gameweek and why?

Has to be Hazard. Wham have been poor recently (defensively even longer).

1 goal means 10 points for him - not true for either Vardy or Mane.

looks like I'm going Robbo+TAA instead of Salah
took Hazard out before his haul, kinda nervous about him, but small chance he gets rotated? not likely but hope so
Vardy I'm genuinely concerned about, could do Laca -> Vardy (c) but seems a bit too short term

      Probably Vardy.

The pessimistic Chelsea fan in me is putting me off West Ham - think they'll see this game as something to play for so will put up more of a fight than recent weeks.

Mane and Salah are the other two possibilities who might steal the armband. Both more likely to score big than Vardy, but starting to feel Vardy is the safer bet, which is what I want this week really.

Definitely a tough call this week, multiple good possibilities.

For me its between Hazard and Vardy.
I just think Hazard can be explosive unlike Vardy. West Ham conceded 3 goals against Huddersfield and 2 at home from Everton. Shocking defending. I think Hazard will punish them. I can see a penalty in this game.

I'm going for Hazard based on Chelsea attacking stats and West Ham defensive stats. His stats aren't great but he tends to not need to have great stats to haul. Southampton away I think will be tough and low scoring. Tempted by Wilson or King at home to Burnley, particularly as no one else in my mini league owns King!
If I had Vardy I would probably captain him though

Hazard is not the right choice this week, Chelsea vs WHU has always been a low scoring fixture (last 3 have ended 1-0, 1-1, 0-0)

Going with Mane. Not making the mistake of captaining Salah again.

I have all 4 of Salah, Mane, Haz and Vardy in my team so really tough choice to pick but currenly leaning on captain Salah, Vardy vice.
Hazard is too swingy to consider for captain (especially considering his recent form - last game) but I am happy to have him in my team.
Vardy has great fixture but much lower ceiling imo then Liverpool mids.
Mane vs. Salah is always close and 50-50 pick so I normally lean towards more expensive player.

Salah. I'm not really confident with any of the options this week but I'm leading my ML and want to play it as safe as possible - one of my rivals doesn't own Hazard (although I think he could bring him in for Rich if he wanted) and the other doesn't own Mane (2 Liv defence)

So think it's more likely at least one of them captains Salah.

If one has Hazard and Salah in the squad, is captaining Vardy the most silly thing to do? Would it not mean that one has to hope Salah and Hazard will not perform (since their effective ownerships will be about 100% each)? Would that not mean you are ruining 1/4 of your budget and since Liverpool and Chelsea are more likely to perform, the failur of Salah and Hazard to perform implies Mane or others to perform better (which I, for instnace, do not have). In other words, can we even consider Vardy if we have both Salah and Hazard?

The shield move is to own all the players with high effective ownership and to captain the one with the highest.

The sword move is to captain the player you expect to score the most points.

If you own them all and captain the highest points scorer then you will get more points from them than those who captain a player with higher effective ownership but who scores less.

In short, it is not silly to captain Vardy if you expect him to get the highest score.

        Vardy anytime goalscorer - 2.20
        Salah anytime goalscorer - 1.85
        Hazard anytime goalscorer - 1.80

And CS and extra goal points in favor of midfielders. Though one tho.

Did Eddie say anything about the keeper situation?

Very annoying having to use a transfer on a keeper at this stage, especially one who should have a decent fixture.

If F Anderson is out or remains a doubt, I will have to play Snodgrass or Diop. Is it worth getting a Leicester mid in for a bit. Wildcarding next week.

    Thinking Madison.

    Thanks!

Whats the current thinking of best teams / players to target for next weeks wildcard looking at bench boost in dgw35?

Spurs look to have good fixtures, Liverpool x 3 just cause, man city x 3? Who else?

Wolves (in particular Jiminez) and Watford looking good for the mid-priced/cheap options. Some Southampton players are looking ok too (Valery, JWP for example)

Took a -4 to get the below. Wildcard next week and BB in 35 is the plan.

    Fab
    Robbo-AWB- Yedlin-Rice
    Haz-Mane-Anderson-Siggy
    Aub-Zaha

    Bednarek only bench option.

Is it worth another -4 to swap Anderson to a Leicester mid, or to up Bednarek? Got 2 million in the bank

    Thanks!

    This team ok for wc34?

    Foster, Ryan
    Robertson, Laporte, TAA, Duffy, Valery
    Hazard, Mane, BSilva, Jota, Romeou
    Kane, Lacazette, King

Looks good but would try to fit 1 of Aguero or Sterling in there. Maybe Sterling for Hazard?

Hey guys. I know we still have GW33 to go first, but would appreciate your thoughts on this early GW34 WC (planning to BB in 35).

    Lloris Foster
    Robbo TAA Laporte Duffy Valery
Sterling Mane Eriksen Jota Doucoure(Camarasa in 34)
    Aguero Jiminez Deeney

Would leave me with 1.5 ITB to potentially upgrade Jota/Deeney after the double

I have 11 players for 33, 1 FT, which do you think is better:

    A) Fabianski to Kepa/Schmeichel

    B) Higuain to Vardy

Currently only have 1 striker (Vardy)

Is it worth a 4 point hit to bring in a 2nd and if so who?

No. If you were going to get a striker I'd go for Wilson or Rondon

    2. Robson-Canoe

Depends on who you'd bench for him. King or Wilson are likely to do well.

No to take a -4 hit and if new stricker blanks you have a -2 not worth it unless you are not wc gw34 then might be worth it

If not wc34 go for laz or aub (arsenal)
