The best defenders for a second Wildcard squad

With the Gameweek 34 deadline looming, Fantasy managers who are deploying their Wildcard (or otherwise) will be mulling over the various options for the season run-in.

With that in mind, we have looked at several defensive candidates to be considered between now and the end of 2019/20.

To do that, we have made use of the wealth of data available in the Members’ Area and those subscribing can read on below.

Now that we are well past the halfway stage of the season, memberships are available for just £10 and can be acquired by signing up HERE.

Doucoure or Deulefou for my last mid spot? Have 5.9 left.

    Lloris Foster
    Robertson Laporte Duffy Dunk Valery
    Sterling Mane Eriksen Son
    Kun, Jimenez, Deeney

JWP is the man - in great form, good fixtures and involved in set pieces. What’s not to like.

His home form is decent but not away.. When i'd need him as both DGW fixtures are away.

His away form isn’t much worse than his home form - think he is a decent option at the price

Has a goal or assist in 2 out of 9 away games this season. Hes a decent option for the price i suppose.

Money ITB could come in useful. I have the exact same dilemma with 5.9 to spend on last midfield spot and I prefer JWP because as my 8th attacker he's mostly going to be benched and it gives me more room to manoeuvre.

Dunk to Bennett/Bednarek lets you have Jota as your fifth, that's what I'd do.

Dunk no good for GW 35 anyway

Is JWP really that much better then Hojbjerg for BB35?
Hojbjerg would allow me straight swap from Deeney to Rashford in gw37, otherwise I would have to use 2 transfers.

I don't think the gap is huge. By no means a guarantee that JWP outscores Hoj over the DGW.

      I'd say keep the cash

Which 2 to bench this GW:

    a. Robbo (CHE)
    b. Laporte (cry)
    c. Duffy (BOU, CAR)
    e. Dunk (BOU, CAR)
    f. Deu (ARS)

I guess I found the perfect Kane-less team:

    Ryan
    Doherty - Kolasinac - Duffy
    Salah - Sterling - Eriksen - Son
    Aguero (C) - Jimenez - Deeney

    Foster - JWP - Bednarek - Holebas

All of my players have double gw except Salah. I'll use my BB next week and TC (Salah) probably gameweek 36. I'll also get some Liverpool defender after gw 35. Anything I should change?

I think foster is chosen more than gunn because most people already have bednarek/valery in their defence and doubling up on Southampton is not a fantastic combination. Foster isn't necessarily a better pick

    3. RyanC
      • 9 Years
      5 years, 10 days ago

I think most people are picking Foster based on his slightly better GW35 set of double fixtures, whereas Gunn has the better fixtures beyond that point in my opinion.

So yeah, I don't think he is. I'm going for Gunn and banking the 0.3.

    4. Dr. Mantis Toboggan
      • 7 Years
      5 years, 10 days ago

I have Lloris so I only need a second keeper for the BB in GW 35.

Watford have the best fixtures, and their defenders are less secure in their starts.
Also, Foster + Bednarek costs less than Gunn + Cathcart (8.6 Foster

I did have KDB over Pogba in a previous draft. Guess I got focused on west ham fixture at home looking favourable

Managed to narrow things down to basically 4 options to finish my WC squad. The other 9 slots are basically settled. What are people’s thoughts?

    A. Laporte (or any other 6m def), Salah, Sterling, JWP (5th mid), Deeney, Vardy
    B. Laporte, Salah, Jota (or any other 6.1m mid), JWP, Kun, Vardy
    C. Laporte, Sterling, Mané, Jota (5th mid) Kun, Deeney
    D. Cathcart (or any other 4.5m def), Salah, Sterling, Hojbjerg, Kun, Deeney

RMT on the members area has them ranked D, C, B, A in terms of points but there’s not much in it. Worried D leaves the defence and bench very light

Hojbjerg over JWP if it means I could get both Aguero AND eriksen alongside Sterling and Son?

JWP 5th mid, while I like him better, means I can’t get both

You are going to have to post the whole team up

Thoughts on WC team and plan?

    Lloris Foster
    Duffy Dunk Laporte TAA Valery
    Eriksen Son Mane Jota Sterling
    Aguero Jimenez Deeney

    Then in GW36,
    Duffy & Deeney > Robertson & fodder

Is it worth keeping Vardy 1 more week then upgrading to Aguero?

    Current team is:

    Lloris Foster
    Robbo TAA Kola Duffy Dunk*
    Salah Eriksen Son Jota JWP
    Vardy Jimenez Deeney

    3.1 million in the bank

*plan to move Dunk to a Wolves defender next week

Should do but if Poch wants to give him a rest this may be the best opportunity this season.

Lads there are obvious names that have been filling the template and many teams have similar line ups. We see Aguero, Jiminez, Deeney, Sterling, Eriksen, Son, Laporte everywere, but who are the best differentials for 34 and 35?

Im chasing a leader with 50 points on me, so i want my team to be as different as possible, without swaying too far away from the template. KDB over Sterling is 1 of my punts. I think 2 or 3 punts should be enough.

My team is template thats why i need ideas, for context

      Foster Ryan
      Robertson Vertonghen Valery Duffy Bennett
      Mane Erisken Son KDB Deulofeu
      Aguero Deeney Jiminez

Vardy over Aguero for this week. That and KDB is different enough

I like Doucouré over Jota, if that counts as a differential.

I also think Trippier could be a good pick over some of the other options, but there are uncertainties there.

      KDB is a good punt
Ings is a risky punt (but could get a big reward)
Mkhy is possibly worth a punt
CHO/RLC if you're really going for it

50 points isn’t much. Captaincy alone could catch that.

I think Vardy is an excellent ‘differential’ This week. He is the one I’d go for.

I find double ups are the best way to create differentials. I’m going double Liverpool and double Man City defense (best two defenses in the league in stats by far).

nice...haven't heard anyone about a City defense double, so that's very differential indeed 🙂

A lot changes in football quite quickly. At this point I favour double Pool attack over double Pool defence. 2 of Mane, Salah and Firmino could be gold for 35 and 36. Firmino in particular looks very slick.

Double ups are the best way to create variance - that’s not always a good thing
