Captains

Captain Sensible – No stand-out candidate for Double Gameweek 34

With no standout favourite in the captaincy debate for Double Gameweek 34, Fantasy managers have been handed an opportunity for sizeable green arrows.

The lack of an obvious option to turn to in the wake of Harry Kane‘s (£12.6m) injury, it means that his support will be split among other candidates.

In order to find the best one for this latest Double Gameweek, we have undertaken some extensive research for the latest Captain Sensible article.

Captain Poll

Because of that injury to Kane, we rest the captain poll half-way through the week in the build-up to Double Gameweek 34. We took that decision because at the time of his knock, the Tottenham forward was enjoying a healthy lead, which he would be unlikely to follow through on with him not expected to play against Huddersfield.

We recorded the results at the time of the reset so that we could document what Kane’s injury had done to the captaincy debate.

The captain poll results before Kane’s injury

As you can see from the picture above, Kane was absolutely running away with the captain poll before he got injured. He was enjoying a 49.95% share of the vote as he was expected to wreak havoc against a recently relegated Huddersfield side. His backing was probably so big because he was the least likely attacking Spurs player not to be rotated after Champions League action.

In second place was Shane Duffy (£4.7m) but he was a long way off with just 14.38% of the vote. The support for him obviously stemming from Brighton’s Double Gameweek. It pits them against Bournemouth and Cardiff at home, two sides that have struggled on their travels this year.

After his 16-point haul against Huddersfield in Blank Gameweek 33, Jamie Vardy (£9.2m) was in third place on 5.97% backing, just ahead of Brighton forward Glenn Murray (£6.3m) on 5.11%.

Captain poll results after Kane’s injury

As you can see from the new results, it would appear that Son Heung-min (£8.6m) has soaked up a lot of the support for Kane, but not all of it. He is the new poll leader but with a much smaller clearance between him and Duffy.

The South Korean currently has 32% of the votes, while the Brighton man has risen from 14.3% to 20.6%.

Vardy has also benefitted from Kane’s injury, jumping from 5.97% support to 11.3%, but is still ranked third right now. Murray’s rise has been even smaller, with an increase from 5.11% to 5.98%.

The last remains of Kane’s support appear to have moved to Sergio Aguero (£11.7m) and Christian Eriksen (£9.2m), who currently have the backing of 4.8% and 3.95%.

Do you trust Leno? Arsenal haven't kept a CS (in PL) away from home this season.

They have 4 away games (out of 6) till the end of the campaign.

      Not sure about Laca too.

Bilva is injured and Pep said he might be ready for the weekend, Auba is 10.9, huge gamble if he does not start which is a possibility. Deu also got off in the final with injury and add Kola not 100% nailed and you can find yourself in trouble this week already. Double Saints def, no. Pogba is a def no, he is playing CM for at least a month, been that long in Ethiopia?

I would want a LIv def, so you don´t need to make a transfer later, possibly also one og Mané/Firmino/Salah,my take on the Sterling/Kun double up is that it is risky vs Palace, bot in terms of starts (i think Kun starts) but also not sure City will bang the goals in, with those fixtures next week following.

i think one planned tranny could be ok, mist likely scenario is that you might want to take a hit in addition (injuries etc) but two planned transfers is a stretching it far, like we saw with Kane in the week one injury and you´d want to take another hit to field 15 in the DGW. Fulham pants but that´s a game quite unpredictable in terms of CS.

Personally i would want lloris and then Dunk for Digne, and i just would get JWP at once, then you have as good chance of CS, and a goalie you can play each week til the end. You would also then not be in dire need of getting rid of Brighton defs, as their double 35 is awful but but 36 is ok so fine to keep. That will give you much better shape going into 35

Thanks for this. Agree re having 2 planned transfers. I'm probably being too loyal to Digne because he's been a lifesaver for me recently.

City is just minefield with Pep constant rotation and never knowing who is gonna play and will they haul so I opted to choose only one and go with it.

I will rather back up Liverpool who are chasing league title where we know what front three will look like.

Decision is between Sterling and Aguero.

    A) Sterling, Deeney
    B) Aguero, Deulofeu

I am leaning towards A since I think that both Sterling and Deeney are more nailed, but fear of not owning Kun is great too 🙂

Which SGW players are you all keeping?

Vardy(c) is the standout option for me and could now be a good differential with many dropping him on WC.

Haz is the standout imo, but it's dGW innit, YOLO and never learn

Time for final verdict on this wildcard bunch:

    Lloris(Foster)
    TAA-Duffy-Dunk (Doherty-Valery)
    Salah-Son-Eriksen-Camarasa (Jota)
    Kun-Jimmy-Vardy(C)

Not sure I'll BB 35, as I don't expect much from double Bri def away and Camarasa (liv).

    What do you guys think?
