Captains

Captain Sensible – No stand-out candidate for Double Gameweek 34

With no standout favourite in the captaincy debate for Double Gameweek 34, Fantasy managers have been handed an opportunity for sizeable green arrows.

The lack of an obvious option to turn to in the wake of Harry Kane‘s (£12.6m) injury, it means that his support will be split among other candidates.

In order to find the best one for this latest Double Gameweek, we have undertaken some extensive research for the latest Captain Sensible article.

Captain Poll

Because of that injury to Kane, we rest the captain poll half-way through the week in the build-up to Double Gameweek 34. We took that decision because at the time of his knock, the Tottenham forward was enjoying a healthy lead, which he would be unlikely to follow through on with him not expected to play against Huddersfield.

We recorded the results at the time of the reset so that we could document what Kane’s injury had done to the captaincy debate.

The captain poll results before Kane’s injury

As you can see from the picture above, Kane was absolutely running away with the captain poll before he got injured. He was enjoying a 49.95% share of the vote as he was expected to wreak havoc against a recently relegated Huddersfield side. His backing was probably so big because he was the least likely attacking Spurs player not to be rotated after Champions League action.

In second place was Shane Duffy (£4.7m) but he was a long way off with just 14.38% of the vote. The support for him obviously stemming from Brighton’s Double Gameweek. It pits them against Bournemouth and Cardiff at home, two sides that have struggled on their travels this year.

After his 16-point haul against Huddersfield in Blank Gameweek 33, Jamie Vardy (£9.2m) was in third place on 5.97% backing, just ahead of Brighton forward Glenn Murray (£6.3m) on 5.11%.

Captain poll results after Kane’s injury

As you can see from the new results, it would appear that Son Heung-min (£8.6m) has soaked up a lot of the support for Kane, but not all of it. He is the new poll leader but with a much smaller clearance between him and Duffy.

The South Korean currently has 32% of the votes, while the Brighton man has risen from 14.3% to 20.6%.

Vardy has also benefitted from Kane’s injury, jumping from 5.97% support to 11.3%, but is still ranked third right now. Murray’s rise has been even smaller, with an increase from 5.11% to 5.98%.

The last remains of Kane’s support appear to have moved to Sergio Aguero (£11.7m) and Christian Eriksen (£9.2m), who currently have the backing of 4.8% and 3.95%.

I's there any possibility that Aguero and Sterling both miss the palace game and saved for the spurs CL game midweek ?

Possible. It's all possible. I think they play 100-120 mins each. Goal and and assist each (ish).

OK sød it. Going to risk it all on a few chickens to try and top Cash ML (30 points behind)

    Ryan (Foster)
    Dunk / Duffy (c) / TAA (Doc / Valery)
KDB / Sterling / Son / Eriksen (Deulofeu)
    Rashford / Kun / Jimi

Switch Dunk next week to Watford/Wolves defender. Then KDB to Mane for HUD.

My saving grace is ML leader doesn't have WC so I can guess their BB, will be much weaker. So if Brighton do get a CS I should be golden.

Is Dunk (C) too ballsy? Feel with him being the Captain & with Brighton since he was a youngster, he’ll be determined to get a goal to keep em up, or am I just thinking too much?

Just do Duffy. Dunk is a bit of a Donkey. A Dunkey if you will.

Not ballsy at all. He's my vice behind Son and I was considering switching to Dunk. More than capable of scoring in two dream games. If he gets one cleanie then it's no fail IMO

Lucas M is such a great financial way into spurs attack. He's most certainly starting alongside Son in attack with Eriksen behind. It's just hard to get rid of Jota and Lloris to make it happen. And even harder to remove Eriksen/Son to get him in.
