Captains

Captain Sensible – No stand-out candidate for Double Gameweek 34

With no standout favourite in the captaincy debate for Double Gameweek 34, Fantasy managers have been handed an opportunity for sizeable green arrows.

The lack of an obvious option to turn to in the wake of Harry Kane‘s (£12.6m) injury, it means that his support will be split among other candidates.

In order to find the best one for this latest Double Gameweek, we have undertaken some extensive research for the latest Captain Sensible article.

Captain Poll

Because of that injury to Kane, we rest the captain poll half-way through the week in the build-up to Double Gameweek 34. We took that decision because at the time of his knock, the Tottenham forward was enjoying a healthy lead, which he would be unlikely to follow through on with him not expected to play against Huddersfield.

We recorded the results at the time of the reset so that we could document what Kane’s injury had done to the captaincy debate.

The captain poll results before Kane’s injury

As you can see from the picture above, Kane was absolutely running away with the captain poll before he got injured. He was enjoying a 49.95% share of the vote as he was expected to wreak havoc against a recently relegated Huddersfield side. His backing was probably so big because he was the least likely attacking Spurs player not to be rotated after Champions League action.

In second place was Shane Duffy (£4.7m) but he was a long way off with just 14.38% of the vote. The support for him obviously stemming from Brighton’s Double Gameweek. It pits them against Bournemouth and Cardiff at home, two sides that have struggled on their travels this year.

After his 16-point haul against Huddersfield in Blank Gameweek 33, Jamie Vardy (£9.2m) was in third place on 5.97% backing, just ahead of Brighton forward Glenn Murray (£6.3m) on 5.11%.

Captain poll results after Kane’s injury

As you can see from the new results, it would appear that Son Heung-min (£8.6m) has soaked up a lot of the support for Kane, but not all of it. He is the new poll leader but with a much smaller clearance between him and Duffy.

The South Korean currently has 32% of the votes, while the Brighton man has risen from 14.3% to 20.6%.

Vardy has also benefitted from Kane’s injury, jumping from 5.97% support to 11.3%, but is still ranked third right now. Murray’s rise has been even smaller, with an increase from 5.11% to 5.98%.

The last remains of Kane’s support appear to have moved to Sergio Aguero (£11.7m) and Christian Eriksen (£9.2m), who currently have the backing of 4.8% and 3.95%.

I like what you have so A. Only thing is, I’m really not sure on taa - he’s young, pressure is building on Liverpool and as we saw vs saints...will Klopp go for experience in some games. Would prefer Trippier or Laporte if you can stretch

I'm going into minor meltdown over this WC.

The only thing I am SURE on, is that I want my three strikers in 35 to be Jimenez, Kun and Deeney. Son and Eriksen will join them.

The 3 midfield slots left is what is really getting me, I keep toying with the ideas of:

    KDB
    Mane
    Pogba
    JWP

Something is telling me that I can afford to ditch Mane for the next two but I don't know...

      I went Mane and jwp.

Lost Salah coz of form and wanted Laporte and Trippier for the run in.

    Son/Eriksen/Salah/De Bruyne/Ward-Prowse
    Deeney/Lacazette/Jimenez
    0,8 in the bank.

De bruyne is a bit of a punt, could downgrade and upgrade deeney or jimenez.

B gives triple City attack and triple brighton defence this week so could be gold as im chasing 56 points.
But i will also be stuck with 2 brighton defenders for 35 unless i do a hit. Rival has Laporte too, so kinda swayed by A.

I get your point. But is A a lot worse than B?

So I stupidly took a -4 to get Kane in early this week, shall I double down on stupidity by punting on Llorente for another -4? Could turn out great and make up my hits...could be a 1 pointer and essentially mean starting with -7. If I don’t swap him out I have Deloufeu and JWP so tempted to take the punt with it being Huddersfield

I think Llorente is definitely getting 90 minutes tomorrow, then dropping to the bench for the 2 away games against City, then probably starting again against Brighton. At 5.1 there is not much to lose with him, he got some points when Kane was out last time + is expected to start in the easy games. Only problem is that if I get him I should drop Vardy/Deeney/Jimmy and I don't really want to do this.

At the moment I also have Auba and may get rid of him for this GW as he is not really nailed (+Arsenal are really poor away from home) and then get either Auba\Laca in for Vardy for the double GW. But sill do I really want to change a 10.8 striker for a 5.1 one just for one gameweek? 🙂

    Any thoughts on Llorente?

    Morning all,

I'm in the horrible position of chasing in one ML whilst trying to defend in another means i need to try and have a couple of differentials without missing out on the obvious picks. Currently on this:

    Ryan / Foster
    Valery / Bednarek / Duffy / Kolasinac / Doherty
    Hazard / Salah / Son / Eriksen / Jota
    Deeney / Murray / Aguero

    0.5 ITB

Keeping Haz & Salah are likely to be my differentials

    gw35 murray becomes jimenez
gw 36 hazard likely becomes mane / sterling

    would really appreciate any thoughts
