Dugout Discussion

Murray starts against Cardiff as Duffy remains main focus

Glenn Murray (£6.4m) has returned to the starting line-up for Brighton.

The veteran forward was left on the bench for the 5-0 defeat Bournemouth on Saturday.

Also back in the side is Pascal Groß (£6.7m), making his first start since Gameweek 28.

After such a devastating result against the Cherries just a few days ago, it looks as if Chris Hughton has reverted to the 4-4-1-1 formation that brought more success for Brighton earlier in the campaign.

Solly March (£4.7m) is another returning face, stationed on the left of midfield, Alireza Jahanbakhsh (£6.7m) on the opposite flank.

Bruno (£4.4m) comes in at right-back to captain the side, while defensive pair Shane Duffy (£4.8m) and Lewis Dunk (£4.4m) keep their places in the side – as does goalkeeper Mat Ryan (£4.4m).

It is these options where the majority of Fantasy interest lies. 66,000 managers captained Duffy for Double Gameweek 34.

22.72% of those in the top 10,000 form part of that number.

Given that Cardiff have allowed more headed attempts and shots from set pieces in the last six matches, there is every chance that Duffy could nick some attacking returns.

Brighton XI: Ryan; Bernardo, Dunk, Duffy, Bruno; March, Pröpper, Stephens, Jahanbakhsh; Groß; Murray.

Cardiff XI: Etheridge; Peltier, Ecuele Manga, Morrison, Bennett; Ralls, Gunnarsson; Mendez-Laing, Camarasa, Hoilett; Niasse.

Duffy captainers, what are you going to do if he scored in second half? Screaming out loud? 😉

Only captain a defender if he is going to haul. Don't do it when they are going to come away with a crap score.

    Brighton remaining fixtures:

    20 April: Wolves (away)
    23 April: Spurs (away)
    27 April: Newcastle (home)
    4 May: Arsenal (away)
    12 May: Man City (home)

    Cardiff remaining fixtures:

    21 April: Liverpool (home)
    27 April: Fulham (away)
    4 May: Crystal Palace (home)
    12 May: Man United (away)

    ---------------------------------------
Going to be tight. Can see Cardiff getting results against Fulham and Palace. But Brighton will be targeting the Newcastle fixture.

Rafa's system alone should be too much for Brighton.

    Scenario:
Referee says no foul from a tackle in and around the penalty area, play continues. VAR asks to check the decision as it may have been a foul and may have been in the box.
It turns out it was a clear foul, but was in fact just outside the penalty box and therefore not a penalty.

    Question:
Can the referee then award a free kick?

I'm under the impression that VAR is only used for penalty decisions, goal decisions, red card decisions and mistaken identity cases etc. As this was a penalty decision review - what are the subsequent actions the ref an take from the outcome?

I've read somewhere var should only view "clear" fouls the referee missed.

"Mendez-Laing with a goal Messi would be proud of. The sweetest strike imaginable from outside the area. Frustration growing in the Amex. Brighton have shaded possession, but lack quality in final third. Cardiff containing impressively."
