Dugout Discussion

Murray starts against Cardiff as Duffy remains main focus

Glenn Murray (£6.4m) has returned to the starting line-up for Brighton.

The veteran forward was left on the bench for the 5-0 defeat Bournemouth on Saturday.

Also back in the side is Pascal Groß (£6.7m), making his first start since Gameweek 28.

After such a devastating result against the Cherries just a few days ago, it looks as if Chris Hughton has reverted to the 4-4-1-1 formation that brought more success for Brighton earlier in the campaign.

Solly March (£4.7m) is another returning face, stationed on the left of midfield, Alireza Jahanbakhsh (£6.7m) on the opposite flank.

Bruno (£4.4m) comes in at right-back to captain the side, while defensive pair Shane Duffy (£4.8m) and Lewis Dunk (£4.4m) keep their places in the side – as does goalkeeper Mat Ryan (£4.4m).

It is these options where the majority of Fantasy interest lies. 66,000 managers captained Duffy for Double Gameweek 34.

22.72% of those in the top 10,000 form part of that number.

Given that Cardiff have allowed more headed attempts and shots from set pieces in the last six matches, there is every chance that Duffy could nick some attacking returns.

Brighton XI: Ryan; Bernardo, Dunk, Duffy, Bruno; March, Pröpper, Stephens, Jahanbakhsh; Groß; Murray.

Cardiff XI: Etheridge; Peltier, Ecuele Manga, Morrison, Bennett; Ralls, Gunnarsson; Mendez-Laing, Camarasa, Hoilett; Niasse.

I captained Duffy and I will hold my hands up and say it was a bad decision. Not just in hindsight, but in general. I got carried away by DGW fever and the remote possibility of a goal, etc. No point pretending otherwise.

You gotta be in it to win it.

It wasn't a bad decision, it's just that the outcome was far worse than anyone's expected worse case scenario.

Sensible post. I was confused about the Duffy hysteria when I came on here. Most people wouldn't captain a top 4 defender with a double GW (possibly because their attackers would be more interesting - but still) - yet alone a Brighton defender!

In fact I'm sure most wouldn't captain Kolasinac on a double gameweek...

Problem for me was there was no stick on captain...Liverpool playing chelsea, Man City on paper a tough game against a team they’ve struggled against and pep rotation, Man U off form etc

It certainly looks a shocker of a decision now but pre deadline it wasn’t. No point trying to justify it now. Let’s be honest and say a 7-12 point spread for the two games was a fairly reasonable expectation. A 20 point haul was as likely as a 1 or 0. Them the breaks and those who didn’t, get their moment to sing. Tbh, of most gws, this has hardly been the worst to have a captain fail
