Redmond starts but Valery missing for Southampton

Nathan Redmond (£5.4m) has been handed another start in the central attacking midfield role in which he thrived in Double Gameweek 34.

Having played as a makeshift centre-forward for long spells this season, the former Norwich man was paired with Josh Sims (£4.4m) last time out and got a brace.

Ralph Hasenhüttl has gone with the same system in attack, handing another start to striker Danny Ings (£5.4m) too.

However, there was disappointment for those Fantasy managers who had invested in Southampton defender Yan Valery (£4.1m) with this Double Gameweek in mind.

After coming off with cramp in Double Gameweek 34 and overcoming that this week, he ends up missing the game through illness.

Jannik Vestergaard (£4.6m) is also absent making for a back-three of Maya Yoshida (£4.1m), Jan Bednarek (£4.0m) and Jack Stephens (£4.2m).

In central midfield there are starts for budget midfielders Oriol Romeu (£4.2m) and Pierre-Emile Højbjerg (£4.4m), who will be in a handful of Bench Boost squads.

Meanwhile, Newcastle’s relevance to the Fantasy Premier League scene continues to dwindle.

Salomón Rondón (£5.9m) remains the most popular Magpie in the game but his ownership has fallen again, now to just 6.5% overall.

Newcastle XI: Dubravka; Schar, Lascelles, Dummett; Manquillo, Ki, Hayden, Ritchie; Almiron, Perez; Rondon

Southampton XI: Gunn; Bednarek, Yoshida, Stephens; Ward-Prowse, Oriol Romeu, Højbjerg, Bertrand; Sims, Redmond; Ings.

What a joke of a season. Took a 16 points hit yo get.

    Sterling captain
    Valery
    Llorente
    Jota
    Foster

Took a16 point hit fist time in 8 seasons. Deulofeu flagged otherwise I would have hot him. Valery was git, but not in squad. Sterling scores hattricks glfor fun when I don't own him. Foster loses cs in last minute. Bb waste this week. TC kun then he gets injured. Free hit was disaster. Horrible season. Rank 150k

Literally remember it is a game. Easy to forget that when we all get caught up in it.

Enjoy the highs but leave the lows on the FPL site.

seems simple but don't make fpl the focal point of your weekend. I always look forward to watching the games but with this season, I chose to be out doing something fun while my captain blanks and I lose CS's in the first 5 minutes lol.

      1. Brosstan
        • 9 Years

This sounds like good advice. I almost don't care, just roll with it f I watch the games with friends and have banter about poor weeks. But if I watch alone like today I can't handle it.

    7. Limited & Mediocre Mana…

Understand variance, ignore FPL in between gameweeks and look to remove cognitive bias.

      1. Brosstan
        • 9 Years
        5 years, 21 hours ago

Understanding variance is part of the frustration. You know it's a large part random bad luck that means you lose. And unlike games like poker, the time frames in FPL mean you can't expect to beat bad luck except over very long time periods (probably decades)

    8. Ci Siamo
      • 8 Years
      5 years, 21 hours ago

Not a healthy alternative but I like hedging my bets with whoever I didn’t end up captaining. Eg, look at your main ML rival and if they have captained someone different to you pop a few quid on them scoring

    9. juho
      • 6 Years

Play poker. Once you understand variance, life in general gets more bearable

      1. Brosstan
        • 9 Years
        5 years, 14 hours ago

I'm very good at poker. Problem is you can't overcome variance in FPL so it gets extra frustrating when you have bad luck. In poker I know that I'm very likely to overcome variance within a reasonable time frame even when I lose short term
