Chip Strategy

How Bench Boosters are doing in Double Gameweek 35 so far

Fantasy managers who have deployed the Bench Boost chip are already at an advantage to those who did not in Double Gameweek 35.

Now that each top-flight team has played one fixture in this round of matches, we can assess the average Gameweek scores by position and chip deployment.

Both overall and in the top 10k, Bench Boosters rank the highest.

Top 10k Double Gameweek 35 average scores so far based on chip deployment

As you can see, the average score of a Bench Boost team in the top 10k is 55 points.

That means that the average points of any side at that level of the game, chip deployment aside, will be close to that number.

The Bench Boost was by far the most used chip for Double Gameweek 35, with 67.51% of the top 10k opting for it.

A surprisingly high number of managers in that bracket used no chip at all. 21.04% fell into that category and are currently suffering for it.

Their average score is 44.34, over 11 points below the average for Bench Boosters.

Triple Captainers in the top 10k are in a similar position, as their Gameweek average stands at just 45.27 points, also roughly 11 points shy of Bench Boosters.

That’s because the only four players to be trusted with the Triple Captain chip at this level were Raheem Sterling (£11.6m), Sergio Aguero (£11.8m), Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (£10.9m) and Raúl Jiménez (£6.9m), none of whom has more than seven points so far.

Overall Double Gameweek 35 average scores so far based on chip deployment

Looking at the overall picture, Bench Boosters are still ahead of their fellow competitors, but not by as much.

Only 9.75% of managers in the whole game deployed that chip for Double Gameweek 35, and their average score so far is a little lower too, just 52.12.

Interestingly, the Triple Captainers worldwide currently boast a higher average Gameweek score than those in the top 10k: 46.22%.

Not surprisingly, over 80% of managers worldwide played no chip for Double Gameweek 35 as the number of inactive players continues to rise.

However, that huge number won’t be entirely made up of those who have lost interest.

18% of managers overall have used all but one of their chips for the campaign, while 17.6% have exhausted their supply, so it’s possible that some are still playing but unable to Bench Boost this week.

Most popular players in the top 10k

Again, it’s not a huge surprise that the top 10k are in a much stronger position to get more out of what remains of Double Gameweek 35, compared to everyone else.

Comparing the two tables above, we can see that a high proportion of the most popular players in top 10k squads are set to play again.

Of the 12 most fashionable assets at this level of the game, only three of them have completed their Double Gameweek 35 duties, Sadio Mané (£10.0m), Andrew Robertson (£6.8m) and Trent Alexander-Arnold (£5.6m).

Crucially for Bench Boosters, options such as Shane Duffy (£4.8m), Mat Ryan (£4.4m) and Matt Doherty (£5.3m) will play again.

Those three players are currently on 225,514, 203,111 and 258,347 benches respectively.

Most popular players overall

Meanwhile, the most popular players overall are largely ones who are already done and dusted in Double Gameweek 35.

Robertson, Mané, Mohamed Salah (£13.2m), Virgil van Dijk (£6.6m), Aaron Wan-Bissaka (£4.5m) and Eden Hazard (£10.9m) are all among the top 12 most fashionable options.

Of that number, only six will play again in Double Gameweek 35.

any advice on who to Triple captain with 3 games to go

    was thinking Mane against Huddersfield

also tempted by Son vs West Ham though

Need to see the rest of your team

Personally I think a LIV attacker vs HUD is the most obvious choice. HUD are very unlikely to be able to/ be motivated enough to park the bus enough and Liverpool need not only to win but close the goal difference with MCI.

Son, Liverpool will be 2/3 up by half time, players will be hooked early for the Barca game. Why risk salah and mane for 70-90 minutes when cruising against Hudds?

I get what you're saying, but if they're 3 up by 60/70 mins, Salah or Mane could already be looking at a really decent TC score.

I still have the chip to use and Liverpool - Huddersfield looks a great option, followed by Hazard in 37, or possibly City in 38.

I understand, but im going with high risk high reward, if Liverpool players blank, highly unlikely, and Son goes mad on a TC, the rank boost will be great. Anything under 10 points from Mane/Salah would be fine with me, i do own Firmino though, the only one in my league, could go with him

I am leaning towards taking a risky punt on the following move this week:

Wilson, Eriksen > Firmino, Mili (-4)

This is the time to stop playing it safe when you are chasing and trying to make OR gains. I really wanted to finish inside the top 50k but the last couple of GWs on WC and BB (so far) have proved to only bring red arrows and I am sitting only just inside top 100k.
This move would give me this team:

    Lloris
    Robbo, Laporte, Yoshida
    Salah (TC), Son, Mili, Jota
    Kun, Jimi, Firmino
    (Foster) (JWP, Doherty, Valery)

What do you think? The alternatives are more template (i.e. Doherty > TAA or bringing in Mané instead). The move could backfire but also Wilson is never a guaranteed returner of FPL points anymore and Bobby and Mili could be lovely differentials to see out the end of season.

    Cheers!

Unfortunately there are no guaranteed returners. Even the best and most reliable plants are not guaranteed. That is why any hit is a risk.

Personally I would not make the moves as you are unlikeky to make any headway starting on a minus 4. Both players oh are losing are decent fantasy assets.

Your response is the sensible approach. What I am proposing though is that taking a risk may be worth it when I am already well below where I want to finish and need to try and make big rank gains. I fully acknowledge it is a risky strategy but also there are many many times where a -4 pays off

True but how annoyed would you be if Eriksen and Wilson both haul at the weekend as that could happen?

Obviously on the flip side, you will be annoyed if neither do anything and your potential transfers haul.

If you aren’t too bothered and want to risk then maybe just do it.

I have been burnt too many times making these kind of transfers and think I have finally learnt my lesson that more often that not play it safe and the rewards will come.

Babel is a decent shout especially as the whole move is a bit of a punt. Feels a bit more wrong risking it on a FUL player than CRY but at least it would give me more cash itb!

Personally, I don’t have a lot left to play for - so I’m happy to take a risk. A) is probably the safer option.

    Morning all

So 15 points behind in money league and we both have Mane.
So while everyone is going triple captain on Liverpool this week thinking of taking the following risk.
Mane captain this week while also having Firmino and TAA. Figure that should cancel out any damage salah triple can do hopefully.

Then go Sterling or aguero triple in Citys last home game which could easily be a cricket score?

How does this sound or should i just follow like a sheep?
    Thoughts please

0.2m short of Robbo / Babel / Zaha, so currently going with VVD instead - worth downgrading Babel / Zaha for a VVD -> Robbo upgrade?

Currently leading my ML by only 5 points with a big prize on the line. I have used all my chips while my rival has his TC chip left. I’ve posted our teams below for comparison.

Any advice on how to take the victory? 1FT, 3.1 ITB. Transfers I am currently looking at are KDB > Mane (this wk) and Eriksen > Sterling next wk. Thanks!

    Me:
    Lloris – Foster
    Laporte – TAA – Doherty – Duffy – Valery
    Son – Eriksen – KDB – Jota – Redmond
    Aguero – Jimenez – Rashford

    Him:
    Allison – Ryan
    Robbo – Azpi – AWB – Duffy – Kolasinac
    Son – Salah – Pogba – Hazard – Hayden
    Vardy – Jimenez – Wilson

How is it looking? Bench ok? 0.2 itb, 1ft (going to save)

    Ryan
    Trippier, Robertson, Doherty
Mane (TC), son, sterling, eriksen, Redmond
    Jiminez, aguero

    Bench... foster, ings, Duffy, Bednarek

In order to bring in Mane I’d move one of Eriksen or Jota

Is it a no brainer? Would have 4m left if I move Eriksen and next to nothing if moving Jota

Stones not worth it, I'd only go Laporte in City's defence.

Not sure on Matip, looks to be ahead of Lovren but it wouldn't surprise me if there is rotation.

      What's your budget?

Might be worth gambling on Matip then if you have reliable options on the bench, just in case he misses out? I like Everton's defence at the moment, shame you can't afford Digne, could go Zouma if you want a real differential!

    For this team

    Leno Ryan

    Duffy Trippier Kolasinac Doherty Valery

    KDB Eriksen Jota Moura Ward-Prowse

    Aguero Jimenez Lacazette

    1FT 0.4ITB

    What would you do

    A. KDB & Lacazette > Mane (TC) & Firmino (-4)

    or would you

    B. Aguero (TC) in GW37 instead

    Any ideas would be welcomed
