Vardy scoring continues as Leicester offer differential options

West Ham and Leicester proved they are still relevant to the end of season Fantasy Premier League picture with their draw on Saturday.

The Foxes attack got back to its best after a disappointing loss to Newcastle, while things remain eventful at both ends of the pitch for the Hammers.

We take a look at what these two clubs can offer in the final three Gameweeks of the season in this latest Scout Notes article.

West Ham United 2-2 Leicester City

Goals: Michail Antonio (£6.8m), Lucas Pérez (£6.1m) | Jamie Vardy (£9.0m), Harvey Barnes (£5.5m)

Assists: Mark Noble (£4.8m), | Ben Chilwell (£5.1m), Youri Tielemans (£6.1m)

Jamie Vardy (£9.0m) remains a decent differential option after he continued his scoring run at West Ham on Saturday afternoon. His second-half strike against the Hammers was his sixth in as many Premier League matches; no forward has more in that time with only Ayoze Pérez (£6.1m) level with the Leicester City man.

After a limp defeat to Newcastle in Double Gameweek 34 and a poor first half at the London Stadium, it might have been easy to think Leicester’s relevance to the Fantasy scene was on the wane for the season. However, the Foxes were much better in the second half against West Ham, and Vardy’s form cannot be ignored. In the last four matches, no player in the whole league has been afforded more big chances than him, which means his team-mates continue to create excellent opportunities for him.

“I think it shows that mentality in the squad, which is very important. There’s lots of areas in the game that we can be better in. “In the first half, we were too passive, but in the second half, we played with a lot more energy and a lot more tempo to our game and we looked a real attacking threat. So I was very pleased with the second half and there’s lots to get better in with the first half.” – Brendan Rodgers

Crucially, the remaining fixtures for Vardy might look difficult on paper, with Arsenal, Manchester City and Chelsea to come, but they are the often the sides that bring the best out of him. It is well-documented that the pacey forward thrives on the space typically left behind the defences of the top six, more so than can be found at the smaller clubs with more defensive tactics. That’s why Vardy has six goals in seven Premier League starts against Arsenal, four in eight starts versus Manchester City and three in eight against Chelsea. The combination of his form and those fixtures should make him a powerful differential in the closing weeks.

Also offering reliable returns, which could continue even in Leicester’s final three matches of the season, is midfielder Youri Tielemans (£6.1m). It was him who provided the assist for Harvey Barnes‘ (£5.5m) stoppage-time equaliser at West Ham, his fifth of the season in just 10 appearances. Since arriving in January on loan, Tielemans has blanked in just three Premier League matches.

Barnes finally got his first Premier League goal after a prolonged spell of producing a barrage of shots since returning from loan at West Bromwich Albion. However, it is hard to tell if he can truly act as a differential option in the last few games of the season. He was named on the bench for the first time since Gameweek 22, so it is not clear if he will be a regular starter going forward.

“He was on the bench today for probably the first time in a while. It is strange he has got his first goal coming off the bench. He has been brilliant since he came back. He has always looked a threat and been lively in every game. He has missed quite a few chances and people may say he needs to improve on that but he is a young boy who has excellent talent. Now the first has gone in I am sure he will back it up with many.” – Harry Maguire

Meanwhile, West Ham seem to be coming back from the beach a little more with each passing game. After they lost somewhat limply to Everton and Chelsea it looked as the Hammers’ season was over but they have now produced two spirited performances against Manchester United and now Leicester.

Their poor form in recent weeks, especially at the back, has influenced transfer plans for Fantasy managers, with some backing Spurs, Southampton and Watford assets for the season run-in, their final three opponents. While West Ham were hardly commanding in defence against Leicester, the goals they conceded were easily avoidable, they have made some slight improvements. They were in the bottom two for shots in the box and big chances conceded in the last six matches, but in the last four, they have risen out of the bottom four for both.

Where the Hammers seemed the most vulnerable against Leicester was in wide areas, with both assists for the goals they conceded coming from the flanks. That could bode well for those looking at wide players from Spurs, Southampton and Watford.

“Our defending was not good for the second goal but for the most part of the game, we played well. We made some mistakes, especially with the second goal. There was too much space in our defence for minute 93 so that allowed them to draw but most part of the game, I think we played well. ” – Manuel Pellegrini

West Ham United XI (4-1-4-1): Fabianski; Masuaku, Ogbonna, Balbuena, Zabaleta; Rice; Anderson, Snodgrass (Obiang 73′), Noble (Wilshere 85′), Antonio; Arnautovic (L Pérez 78′).

Leicester City XI (4-4-1-1): Schmeichel; Chilwell, Maguire, Evans, R Pereira; D Gray (Iheanacho 84′), Tielemans (Mendy 90+5′), Ndidi, Albrighton (H Barnes 64′); Maddison; Vardy

Either risky Mane now or 38, Brighton could be safe by then and City needing a win to PL title.

i am trying to decide to BB this week or 38 and TC vice versa. I only care about my H2H mini league and those are my two games left against good opponents. if I dont TC Salah this week it would prob be Sterling GW38. BHA could be fighting for survival, but City could be fighting for the PL Championship....

He wasn't putting his physique in good use. Should've engaged the center backs more. Wasn't really expecting him to touch the ball a lot.

if it is for a hit then probably no, because Liverpool wil have a tough trip to St James Park. Newcastle lost (undeservedl) to Crystal Palace only 0-1 at home, and i think last 6 won. so its 6 wins and 1 loss at St James Park for Newcastle including win over Man City. That will be a tough fixture.
Last game vs Wolves, I dont see many goals for Liverpool

Can you predict the Spurs rotation for the West Ham match?
I think Son will play, and Eriksen seems to be the fittest person in the squad should also play at least 60 min.
But about Trippier? He got 3 bonus points, is it time to offload him? I am looking to get Liverpool defender and is TAA going to play vs Huddersfield?

    1. tucaoneo
      • 5 Years

I'm worried about Trippier rotation too. Not idea to make a defender transfer though. The priority is to get Mane. May play Duffy or Valery from bench.

I was thinking about Mane, but that will mean I need to do a hit and get rid of Son or Eriksen which I dont want to do. The thing is that Liverpool will take off 3 players after 60 minutes vs Huddersifeld, and then they have the toughest game in the season, the most nervous one vs Newcastle who lost only 1 game at home and won 6 including man city in the last 7 games. Then they get tough game vs Wolves. They can win both but not by a big margin to do a hit.
This leaves me a question whether TAA is going to start

I think most people in the community are making panic decisions now as it is the end of the season. A lot of people are going to take a hit or two and go -8 points just to get LIverpool and Man City players. For me personally, there will be some hidden gems in the last 3 gameweeks, and there is always some players who get hauls close to the finish. Are overlooking these players, from teams whose season is finished but they are going to play for the fans, play open football.
    Liverpool has three fixtures now:
    36. HUD (H) - probably this is the fixture everyone is looking to get Liverpool players, but if you have Salah/Mane , is there a reason to take a hit to get both of them? I dont think so personally, because most people will sacrifice Son/Eriksen/Sterling who I think in the next 3 will outscore. Minutes for Mane/Salah will probably be limited as they have a tough trip to Camp Nou, and its obvious at HT Liverpool will be 2-0 up vs poor Terriers.
    37. Newcastle (a) - toughest test of the season, Newcastle's last 7 matches at St James Park saw 6 wins and 1 unlucky loss to Crystal Palace, during the run they beat Man CIty. The atmosphere will be electric, I dont see many goals for LIverpool, I cant even see a Liverpool win tbh, this game is sandwiched between two Barsa games.
    38. Wolves (H) - Wolves are a tough side for a top-6 we all know this, its going be another test for Liverpool, but noone is going to expect this match to be easy.

Yeah.. most of the end season this may happen too..
and there is some team who are fight for the needs they want.

Brighton and Cardiff, i believe these 2 team are fight for staying PL.. personally i prefer Brighton to stay.

Part 1 - Liverpool and Man City, both of these team are fight for #1. Personally i prefer look for LIV win.

Part 2 - TOT, ARS, CHE, MAN, four of them are fight for UCL last 2 spot. i would prefer TOT and MAN.

Part 3 - EVE, WOL, WAT, LEI, four of them are fight for #7 last EC spot. i would prefer EVE

Part 4 - as above mentioned BRI and CAR.

Hope i did correctly from my own analyze.

You just proved my points correct, as the teams that fight for something will play tight. Last games of the season, most scenarios will be keep it tight in the first half.
Thats why I said teams that play for nothing but for the fans will be scoring goals. Thus players like Mitrovic and Zaha offer so much value right now

yeah.. Mitrovic and Zaha is on my radar too.
But i would try on those who are chasing for "something" 1st.

their final 3 games not too bad..

can consider Babel if you like differential.

I was looking at Palace assets. EVE being decent at defending since few weeks and CAR fighting to avoid relegation puts me off. BOU could go either way.

I am almost certainly getting PVA instead of Trippier, but he was benched vs Arsenal, why is that? Will he play the 3 matches?

I'm not going to overthink about Hazard. Even if he looks bad against us, he has Watford home which looks haul to me.
Will also grab two of Rashford/Mitrovic/Zaha & Milivojevic/Babel.

True. Those last two games are so plum that they should get something out of it. Nice that I've one more week to monitor other options too. I also may go without United assets. Will see.

Nice to see that you changed your mind about this because 2 days ago you were advising me to get rid of Eriksen & Aguero for a hit to get Salah.

Salah is essential. Mane is not. You have Mane, but not Salah. You have to get Salah if you want to triple captain. Thats the reasoning. If you just have Salah you literally covered Liverpool. Who else? Firmino is a no-go for me. TAA - i worry about rotation. Robertson and VVD - too expensive

Robbo & TAA get assists/clean sheets for fun.

If you owned Salah and not Mane over the past 6-8 weeks then you probably missed out on alot of points.

Also Mane's ownership is much higher than Salah and there's no way you can cover Pool if you only have Salah. If Mane hauls this week and you don't own it's going to cause a serious rank drop.

I dont feel comfortable triple captaining Mane. Thats it. We are all assuming you have triple c chip. Mane is a great player, but Salah will step up for sure, and I think he is more assured to be consistent. He may well haul, he plays a lot better now and is full of confidence. He is also on pens when Milner is not on the pitch. That could be the difference, coz Salah will surely be continueing to dive.
With Liverpool defence I am not sure, as I said Newcastle away is a hard fixture. Cant see a clean sheet there, its not the same as playing Cardiff. PVA can outscore any Liverpool defender if he plays these 3 matches. Rotation and limited minutes is a worry for Huddersfield game, Gomez is also back and Lovren too.

if you are not going to triple captain salah, just dont get him. its pointless. For the reason I had written above. You just need to be certain with your triple captain. Maybe for you it could be the last week

Salah is not essential if he doesn't score more than a hit for another Liverpool player unless you know for certain he will outscore other Liverpool assets.

Didn't realise Salah no double figure score since GW23. Mane 2 last 6. 3 last 8

we are talking about current state of the players, not that happened in the last 8 gameweeks especially considering its the end of the season plus Barcelona trip and St James Park trip. Salah is the only player I want in my team, not Mane. I dont feel comfortable captaining Mane let alone triple captaining him.
My point is that Liverpool assets already squeezed out all their possible points, now its a tough test and run for them. Huddersfield game is great but worry about rootation and minutes played is what puts me off.

            Salah last 4 games - 25 poitns
            Mane last 4 games - 15 points

your logic does not make sense, it is the end of the season

not sure here.. i waiting after the derby match over only to decide..
Hate this if he is blank for GW36

there is some risky, for rotation if Pep wants him to rest some minutes..

I would prefer (C) on Mane.. but again some news said Kloop might rest him for UCL

          He he
I have Firmino as pool attacker.
It's between Raz/Bobby/Taa for © for me. Son was playing too wide for my liking otherwise he'd been also a good candidate.

But its look like blocked me to get another option.

Again Blank for GW35 from him. 🙁

Not particularly but my bench is pretty weak and it never hurts to cover potential rotation.
