Vardy scoring continues as Leicester offer differential options

West Ham and Leicester proved they are still relevant to the end of season Fantasy Premier League picture with their draw on Saturday.

The Foxes attack got back to its best after a disappointing loss to Newcastle, while things remain eventful at both ends of the pitch for the Hammers.

We take a look at what these two clubs can offer in the final three Gameweeks of the season in this latest Scout Notes article.

West Ham United 2-2 Leicester City

Goals: Michail Antonio (£6.8m), Lucas Pérez (£6.1m) | Jamie Vardy (£9.0m), Harvey Barnes (£5.5m)

Assists: Mark Noble (£4.8m), | Ben Chilwell (£5.1m), Youri Tielemans (£6.1m)

Jamie Vardy (£9.0m) remains a decent differential option after he continued his scoring run at West Ham on Saturday afternoon. His second-half strike against the Hammers was his sixth in as many Premier League matches; no forward has more in that time with only Ayoze Pérez (£6.1m) level with the Leicester City man.

After a limp defeat to Newcastle in Double Gameweek 34 and a poor first half at the London Stadium, it might have been easy to think Leicester’s relevance to the Fantasy scene was on the wane for the season. However, the Foxes were much better in the second half against West Ham, and Vardy’s form cannot be ignored. In the last four matches, no player in the whole league has been afforded more big chances than him, which means his team-mates continue to create excellent opportunities for him.

“I think it shows that mentality in the squad, which is very important. There’s lots of areas in the game that we can be better in. “In the first half, we were too passive, but in the second half, we played with a lot more energy and a lot more tempo to our game and we looked a real attacking threat. So I was very pleased with the second half and there’s lots to get better in with the first half.” – Brendan Rodgers

Crucially, the remaining fixtures for Vardy might look difficult on paper, with Arsenal, Manchester City and Chelsea to come, but they are the often the sides that bring the best out of him. It is well-documented that the pacey forward thrives on the space typically left behind the defences of the top six, more so than can be found at the smaller clubs with more defensive tactics. That’s why Vardy has six goals in seven Premier League starts against Arsenal, four in eight starts versus Manchester City and three in eight against Chelsea. The combination of his form and those fixtures should make him a powerful differential in the closing weeks.

Also offering reliable returns, which could continue even in Leicester’s final three matches of the season, is midfielder Youri Tielemans (£6.1m). It was him who provided the assist for Harvey Barnes‘ (£5.5m) stoppage-time equaliser at West Ham, his fifth of the season in just 10 appearances. Since arriving in January on loan, Tielemans has blanked in just three Premier League matches.

Barnes finally got his first Premier League goal after a prolonged spell of producing a barrage of shots since returning from loan at West Bromwich Albion. However, it is hard to tell if he can truly act as a differential option in the last few games of the season. He was named on the bench for the first time since Gameweek 22, so it is not clear if he will be a regular starter going forward.

“He was on the bench today for probably the first time in a while. It is strange he has got his first goal coming off the bench. He has been brilliant since he came back. He has always looked a threat and been lively in every game. He has missed quite a few chances and people may say he needs to improve on that but he is a young boy who has excellent talent. Now the first has gone in I am sure he will back it up with many.” – Harry Maguire

Meanwhile, West Ham seem to be coming back from the beach a little more with each passing game. After they lost somewhat limply to Everton and Chelsea it looked as the Hammers’ season was over but they have now produced two spirited performances against Manchester United and now Leicester.

Their poor form in recent weeks, especially at the back, has influenced transfer plans for Fantasy managers, with some backing Spurs, Southampton and Watford assets for the season run-in, their final three opponents. While West Ham were hardly commanding in defence against Leicester, the goals they conceded were easily avoidable, they have made some slight improvements. They were in the bottom two for shots in the box and big chances conceded in the last six matches, but in the last four, they have risen out of the bottom four for both.

Where the Hammers seemed the most vulnerable against Leicester was in wide areas, with both assists for the goals they conceded coming from the flanks. That could bode well for those looking at wide players from Spurs, Southampton and Watford.

“Our defending was not good for the second goal but for the most part of the game, we played well. We made some mistakes, especially with the second goal. There was too much space in our defence for minute 93 so that allowed them to draw but most part of the game, I think we played well. ” – Manuel Pellegrini

West Ham United XI (4-1-4-1): Fabianski; Masuaku, Ogbonna, Balbuena, Zabaleta; Rice; Anderson, Snodgrass (Obiang 73′), Noble (Wilshere 85′), Antonio; Arnautovic (L Pérez 78′).

Leicester City XI (4-4-1-1): Schmeichel; Chilwell, Maguire, Evans, R Pereira; D Gray (Iheanacho 84′), Tielemans (Mendy 90+5′), Ndidi, Albrighton (H Barnes 64′); Maddison; Vardy

    Morning All !!
Hopefully you're having a great BB week. I'm on 77 (-4) atm. Need big performances from Raz©, Kun, Jimenez,Jota & Doherty.

I'm thinking about Rolling the FT next gw. Agree ??

    1 FT, 0.1m itb

    Lloris
    Taa Yoshida Robbo
    Raz Son Deulofeu Jota
    Aguero Jimenez Firmino

    Foster Doherty Valery KDB*

    © Is between Raz/Bobby/Taa. Who'd you © from these 3 ??

    Thank you !!

Amazing we both have 77 points and exactly the same players left to play I'm on Kun(c) though.

Yeah save FT your team is good enough for that. Gives you time to reassess replacements for KDB.

Captain Raz or Bobby. Even Aguero has a good record against Burnley.

I haven't scored 100 this season. Hopefully this is the gw.
Rolling FT so that i can get Hazard next gw with slight downgrade somewhere.

© Is very important to nail for me as I don't have popular © options 😮
        Currently leaning towards Raz.

Haha same even I haven't got 100 points once this season. These 5 should be able to get 23 points more though otherwise it's a fail.

Yup I agree Raz the best option out of those.
Haz or Pogba both look good replacements KDB next week.

            Ha ha. Agreed !

Re kdb replacement I'm contemplating exactly same two options in Hazard & Pogba.
Leaning towards Hazard as pogba is playing DM atm. But thinking about getting Rashford for last 2 gw's.
All an all, 2 FT can be great for me next gw.

Thank you for your input bro 🙂

Yeah Hazard could be a good differential.
I've already owned him for 31 gameweeks this season so I'm a bit bored of seeing him in my team :p

Ha. Hopefully we get one/two hauls today.

Re Pool Midfield, I've chosen theses 3 on WC. It was a choice between Mane Deeney & Bobby Deulofeu. So I'm happy atm with my choice.
It's a risk as my rival have both Salah & Mane 😀
I think if i nail © this gw I'll be fine & loved Bobby stats compared to Salah/Mane. He's playing CF again. So ..

    1. 2157
    2. 2146
    3. 2145
    4. 2136 [TC]
    5. 2135 [TC] *
    6. 2125 [TC] [BB]
    7. 2123

I'm currently sat in 5th, with my TC chip still in hand, based on this when is the best time to play it:

    1. GW36; Mane (HUD) *rotation risk*
    2. GW37; Kun or Sterling (LEI) *harder fixture*
    3. GW38; Kun or Sterling (bha)

    Thanks.

Which looks best going into next GW?

Tough one here with KDB especially.
    1. Vardy-> Firmino.
    2. KDB->Salah + Vardy-> Wilson/Zaha (7.1m) -4.
    3. KDB-> Sterling + Vardy-> Rashford/ Wilson/ Zaha (8.7m) -4.
    4. KDB-> Bilva + Vardy-> Firmino (12.7m) -4.

Have TC. Liv may be a serious option.
    Lloris.
    TAA, Duffy, Kola.
    KDB, Mane, Jota, Son.
    Jimenez, Aguero, Vardy.
    Foster, JWP, Dunk, Bednarek.
    1ft, 1.6m.

Is Eriksen going to be rotated and is it worth selling him (and Aguero) for a hit to get Salah?

Think next game might actually be a better one for him as Trippier/Rose will be rotated meaning he will be on all set pieces for that game.

West Ham are also not going to sit back like Brighton and I think Poch will bench one of Llorente/Moura/Alli to rest them for CL which means Eriksen could be pushed further up the pitch.

He plays too deep thought. Not going to score out of the box screamers every game.
Problem imo is Sissoko Injury. Eriksen has too sit deep to control the tempo of the game. Wanyama is also there but he can't pass the ball forward at all !
So all creativity has to be from Eriksen. That's why i sold him for KDB, although that turned out to be a disaster 😛

90 points with my BB so far, and up 700 places and got myself into top 1k. Sterling (C), Agüero, Laporte, Doherty, Jota, Jimenez, Lacazette and Kolasniac left to play. Hopefully I will reach 100 points for the third time this season, hah!

Nice! 5 reds in last 11 here, but those have been small ones. Was top 400 in GW29, so hopefully I can get into that area later tonight with a bit of luck.

Also TC on Mané next GW! GL.

You have an amazing score and so many players left. This is going to be an exceptional gameweek for you.

Best of luck for the final 3 gameweeks!

90 with 9 big hitters left is amazing - you’ve potentially got the chance of getting OR1 for the gameweek depending how tonight goes

Yeh you are on for a monster score with those left to play.

I've got 4 to play....Jimi (c), aguero, sterling, Doherty and currently 82 points. Aiming for my first 100 pointer of the year. OR 120 at the moment.....want top 100!!!

Then TC either mane or son next gw too

Is Kdb and Eriksen to Salah and Mane worth -4?

Also have Sterling, Aguero and Son

Could be but Eriksen is playing really well right now, take it not enough pennies to just do KDB to Salah?

Not really. Depends. You are only looking for Hud game but then Newcastle game is very tough, I dont see any hauls there even a Liverpool win is unlikely.
Depends if you are triple captaining. But I would keep Eriksen 100%, he is the main man there, fittest player, never gets rotated and substituted. Try to find another route, its pointless because we cant see your full team, its not about two three players, everyone has either A template or B template, but the difference is usually the defenders and one mid price mid in this game

Cheers! Have exact funds for KDB to Salah, and no other way to get Mane (by upgrading Højbjerg) than taking at least -8.

        Whole team is:

        Lloris, Foster
        TAA, Doherty, Duffy, Dunk, Valery
        Sterling, KDB, Son, Eriksen, Højbjerg
        Aguero, Jimenez, Ings

So Billy McNeill left the Celtic managers post after a few years to manage Manchester City.

Did the fans at the time accuse him of trading immortality for mediocrity?

Or is that just the disease of the modern football fan, expect everything, respect nothing.

        Not great.
Was wide for too long, then tried to drop deep to collect the ball.
Brighton parked a bus so he couldn't do much.
Every time he touched the ball near box one/two Brighton players were closing him dowm

What’s your thoughts on this, please:
    1) KDB and Wilson to Sterling and Ings (-4)
    2) KDB and Aguero to Sterling and Firmino (-4)
    3) Just downgrade KDB to Mili/Siggy

    PVA or TAA?
PVA plays against Everton who are superinconsistent. Then he plays vs Cardiff away from home, and Palace are doing superb away. Also he relegated 4 teams now, and he could do it for the fifth time. Last game vs BOU at home, so he can haul in each game.
But I guess TAA is a safe route, although i see a blank in GW37, a potential blank in GW38, I think Wolves will score

I would go for PVA, I never really looked at him but now you’ve mentioned it I may look to get him in myself. Got three good remaining games, TAA looking likely to be rotated with the two UCL games coming up. He finished the season very well last year IIRC. Only issue is the injuries at the back for CPL but attacking returns could see a couple of hauls.

    Play 2

    Valery (BOU)
    Duffy (NEW)
    Boly (wat)

    Play one

    Gray (WOL)
    JWP (BOU)

    Thanks

there is no real answer to this. Bournemoth - inconsistence, may score 3, may not score at all. Brighton generally do well at home vs Newcastle, but the toon are in form. I wouldgo with duffy and maybe Boly if you think he will score.
Gray should play, but JWP had a great chance to score vs Newcastle, maybe he will score.
hard to call, I would play Valery Duffy, JWP. But its a roulette allpicks seem to be good and bad

Thanks for the detailed response, I think I’ll go for the home defenders and then it’s a toss up between Gray and JWP.
