Liverpool options dominate Gameweek 36 captaincy in spite of Salah’s USA trip

Liverpool players are going to be the most popular in the Gameweek 36 captain poll.

After witnessing Manchester City reclaim the Premier League top spot outright on Wednesday night, Jurgen Klopp’s men will almost certainly be at their best when Huddersfield come to Anfield on Friday night.

However, selecting the right Liverpool player may take some work ahead of the Gameweek 36 deadline.

Sadio Mané (£10.0m) has already taken an early lead in our latest captain poll, which you can vote in below or on the sidebar of our website.

The Senegalese international has 10 goals in his last 10 Premier League home matches, making him the most reliable in terms of form in front of his own fans.

However, Mohamed Salah (£13.2m) may give Mané a run for his money given his impressive performance in his last Anfield match, against Chelsea in Gameweek 34.

The Egyptian’s spectacular strike in that game marked the first time since Gameweek 23 that he had scored in back-to-back Premier League games.

Salah also picked up an assist for James Milner‘s (£5.6m) penalty against Cardiff and has won more spot kicks in the league for Liverpool than any of his colleagues this season.

There may be some reticence from his owners to captain him though, after he spent some time in New York this week.

Salah was recently named one of the world’s most influential people by Time Magazine and was in the USA to attend the prestigious Time 100 Gala.

He has reportedly returned to the UK now but his travels (to a different time zone) could affect how much faith Fantasy managers are willing to place in him for Gameweek 36.

There are a number of options worth considering in Liverpool’s defence too.

Andrew Robertson (£6.8m), Virgil van Dijk (£6.6m) and Trent Alexander-Arnold (£5.6m) could all benefit from the fact that Huddersfield remain the division’s lowest scorers and Liverpool have more clean sheets than any other side.

While Barcelona await Liverpool next week, the fact that they are playing Huddersfield on Friday night should ease concern over rotation.

Outside of the Reds, it is hard to truly find much inspiration for a differential captain, such is the quality of Liverpool’s fixture.

Manchester City are the only team whose form is comparable as they travel to Burnley but backing Raheem Sterling (£11.6m) or Sergio Aguero (£11.8m) may still be seen as a risk.

The two players combine for just five attacking returns in their last four away matches, each player blanking twice in that run.

That said, Burnley look safe from the drop this season and have little to play for, so there’s every reason that Manchester City could record a heavy win, especially with no Champions League to consider any more.

Spurs, on the other hand, do have to concern themselves with European competition still, which could affect how they line-up against West Ham on Saturday lunch-time.

Son Heung-min (£8.8m) is banned from the first leg of the Champions League semi-final against Ajax so he should feature, and is probably the most likely to succeed out of his colleagues.

West Ham have one of the worst defences in the league over the last six Gameweeks, so there should be plenty of chances for Spurs.

Christian Eriksen (£9.3m) has been a key player for them in that time but he could be finally handed a rest ahead of midweek after starting every league game since Gameweek 18.

Jamie Vardy (£9.0m) remains in the picture as a differential captain too after he extended his scoring run to eight goals in as many league matches in Double Gameweek 35.

This weekend he faces an Arsenal side that continues to struggle away from home, most recently outperformed by Wolves in a 3-1 defeat at Molineux.

Salah probably pencilled this game as his chance to grab the golden boot. IF he was benched I bet he wouldn’t be happy at all. Newcastle and wolves aren’t the best games to expect goals afterwards.

Forget the golden boot, it would be mad to bench him for any remaining game.

What's the point building a team towards success if you're going to bench them when it matters most?

You could have used this argument the whole season and would have been wrong continuously.
Season is about to end and you suggest resting a key player now.

I get you and I agree for sure Liverpool can beat Huddersfield without Salah.

I'm only basing my opinion on Klopp's management in the last 3 years.

Salah hasn't been rested in any other plum game when it mattered *less*, it matters more now than ever.

The only time Salah got a rest was Burnley away, cos of Xmas pile up.

It's just the way Klopp has worked, and I think will continue to work.

I don't think he'll be benched. They have a 5-day gap before the Barca game which is sufficient. I just meant it wouldn't completely surprise me if he was though.

Bit of a disappointing end to the season for me, but I'm going to have one last crack. I've lost all my mini league leads now so can be frivolous. 1 FT 1.8 itb.

    KDB is obviously out. So:

    Guaita, Bednarek, Westwood, Schar

1FT & 0.3 in the bank. Have TC chip left to play.

I have a slight lead in mini league, any improvements I can make using FT? Should Bednarek start? Should I use TC chip this week on Salah/Mane or wait?

    Thanks.

    Lloris
    Robertson - Laporte - Duffy
    Salah - Son - Eriksen - Jota - Deulofeu
    Agüero - Jiménez
    Subs: Foster, Dunk, Valery, Gray

    1FT - 0.0 ITB

    A) Nothing
    B) Eriksen + Jota -> Mané + bench fodder (-4)
    C) Dunk + Eriksen -> Milivojevic + TAA (-4)

    Thoughts?

Laporte scored 20, 18 and 15 in 3 DGWs and I have not had him even once (always said "ok it was coincidence"). There is no other consecutive GWs that he scored more than 12 combined! What a DGW machine..

I just looked at leicester's fixtures basically they are the key team in the CL race and top four race. Even though they are not in either race!
Well capable of beating any of their remaining three teams on thier day.
    Especially with thier counter-attacking style

    Arsenal (h)
    Man City (a)
    Chelsea (h)

Rodgers is a manager so wouldn't hold my breath. He can't set up a defence to save his life.

They are not capable of beating City at their home but indeed they will have some to say in CL race.

    TC Salah?

I also still have BB left, but 3 SOU players and so going to save that for GW38 (HUD)

Don't bb in 38, there will be lots of rotation. Do it in 36 or 37, Sou has decent fixtures in either.

I'm not expecting much from it anyway, but with 2 Southampton defenders I feel my best chance is Huddersfield at home

I get that, but if you don't have 15 men playing, bench boost isn't worth much. I would be really surprised if all 15 started in gw 38, it's a time to play the kids and old retiring heroes.

Not as boring as weekends when the season is over - going to have to spend time with the wife and kids instead - eugh.

    Guys, some opinions?

    My squad for GW36:
    Lloris
    Robbo Laporte Valery
    Jota Son Eriksen Sterling
    Kun Vardy Jimenez

    Subs: Foster, Ward-Prowse, Duffy, Boly
    1FT, 0,7m INB

    A) Sterling to Mane?
    B) Eriksen Jimenez to Mane Deeney for -4?
    C) Eriksen Jota to Mane Deulofeu for -4?
    D) save

I'd start Duffy over Valery. Otherwise I don't know, I guess you can't afford Eriksen > Mane? You could just captain Aguero but I can see why you would want Mane or Salah.

Hey really would appreciate help, still waiting on any responses to any posts i have made!

I got a bit excited and already cost myself 4 points getting rid of KDB and Lloris [when he missed first game spurs double game week 35] just so i could get Salah.

Current team [0 FT £0.3 ITB]
    Patricio
    Robertson Llorente Doherty
    Salah Eriksen Son Sterling
    Wilson Murray Jiminez

    Gunn AWB Duffy JWP

Do I take a further hit of -8 pts to get Llorente for Murray allowing me funds to do Eriksen to Mane??

Or should i stick as is and do TC Salah?

-4 to bring in Llorente doesn’t sound like a good move to me. Stick with your current team.

How would you manage this team?
I am in secure top in my mini league and current 26k overall so just aiming for top 10k. 1FT 2,1 ITB.

Only have tripple captain left so gonna use it this GW on Liverpool against Hudds, is it worth to take a hit to put it on Salah instead of Mane?
If so who should i sell to get the money?
Or should i just put it on Mane and use FT on TAA and get rid of Cathart?

    Lloris

    VVD, Laporte, Doherty

    Mane, Eriksen, Son, Jota

    Aguero, Lacazette, Aguero

    Ryan, Delofeu, Valery, Cathart

Obviously I can’t see your 3rd attacker but maybe sell laca for firmino ?!

    I currently have:

    Foster Ryan
    Laporte Robbo Doherty Duffy Valery
    Sterling Son Ericksen Jota JWP
    Kun Jimenez Ings.

I'm about 40 points clear at the top of my mini league. Is taking a 12 point hit to replace Jota, JWP, Duffy & Ings with Mane and a load of fodder insane?

I'd have 4 decents defs behind 6 great mids/strikers but 12 seems like a big hit...

    Thanks

That idea is just suicidal. I am 83 points ahead in my mini league and still reluctant to take any hits.
In my case, my rivals do not own Eriksen so I am most likely gonna swap him for Mane. My advice would be to sacrifice one of your big hitters (that your rivals do not own) for one of theirs.

Thanks; I think I'll ship out Eriksen too. None of my rivals own him, and I guess he's more likely to be rested than Son due to Son's Champions League suspension.

Some advice please for the following gameweek:

    Current team:-
    Lloris
    Laporte - Valery - Trent
    JWP - Son - Mane - Erikson - Deulofeu
    Jiminez - Aguero
    Bench:-
    Ryan - Wilson - Cathcart - Bednarek

    I'm thinking of doing:-
    A) Cathcart > Matip + Ryan > Boruc (-4pts)
    B) Son > Jota + Wilson > Firmino (-4pts)

    Thanks!

    Pick one to play:

    A- Duffy (NEW)
    B- Valery (BOU)

Other playing defenders: Laporte and Robertson

Is your fifth defender 3.8? If it is, I would probably go for Duffy. In reality it is a flip-a-coin-situation.

Who to bring in in priority?

    1) Salah
    2) Sterling
    3) Robbo/VVD
    4) Mitro
