Good news for Salah’s Fantasy owners ahead of Gameweek 36

Fantasy managers were offered reassuring comments by Jurgen Klopp in his pre-match press conference on Thursday afternoon.

Mohamed Salah‘s midweek trip to New York and Liverpool’s forthcoming UEFA Champions League double-header against Barcelona are nagging doubts ahead of Liverpool’s appealing Gameweek 36 fixture against Huddersfield Town but Klopp was quick to pour scorn on any suggestion that he would have one eye on next week’s trip to the Nou Camp.

Klopp said:

I will not push that wrong mindset with a fresh line-up or whatever, no chance for that. We had enough time to recover from the last game, we have enough time to recover for the next game. Barcelona has nothing to do with the game on Friday.

Asked if Salah’s brief jolly to America would be an issue ahead of Friday’s match at Anfield, Klopp said:

Travelling these days is no problem any more. It would be more of a problem if his car was broken and he had to walk from here! That’s pretty comfortable.

Of course, he can miss one session [on Wednesday], that’s what he did. Today he will be in training, everything will be fine again. He’s back and everything will be fine.

The Liverpool boss meanwhile provided updates on Adam Lallana (unspecified), Fabinho (head) and Dejan Lovren (illness), saying:

All a bit questionable, we don’t know exactly at the moment. We will have to see today. Dejan trained yesterday so that’s OK, probably. The others we will have to see.

The man in the away dugout at Anfield on Friday, Jan Siewert, also held his press conference today.

Siewert confirmed that Ben Hamer (knock) and Laurent Depoitre (foot) won’t feature but Adama Diakhaby (hamstring) has had two weeks of training and could come back into contention.

Elsewhere, Richarlison (rib) is a “major doubt” for Everton’s match against Crystal Palace on Saturday.

Rounding up Everton’s injury situation on Thursday, Marco Silva said:

Lucas [Digne] is OK.

Richarlison we have big doubts about. He has tried yesterday to work with us, he felt it again. Let’s see how he will react tomorrow, today he tried again. He will be a big doubt for us, a major doubt for us.

Let’s see how Theo [Walcott] will be tomorrow because he was sick this morning.

[Yerry] Mina started [training] with the team also, beginning of the week. He is doing well and preparing well himself.

Davy Propper (hamstring) will miss Brighton’s home match against Newcastle United on Saturday but Anthony Knockaert is available after a three-match ban.

Ralph Hasenhuttl had much to clarify in his own pre-match press conference.

The Southampton boss said of his injured contingent:

Jannik [Vestergaard] not [fit], that’s for sure. Ryan Bertrand has got a hit on his ankle and is maybe also a question. Matt Targett is back in team training. Stuey Armstrong has a little problem with his hamstring.

Shane [Long] is fit, I think. He trained today, had a little problem at the end of the game against Watford, so it looks good that he can play at the weekend.

Fulham manager Scott Parker will welcome Tom Cairney (personal reasons) and perhaps Alfie Mawson (knee) back to the first-team fold this weekend.

Parker said on Thursday:

Tom Cairney will come back now that his girlfriend has given birth. There’s a slight doubt over André Schürrle due to his wife having a baby as well, but [Alfie] Mawson is back in contention. He’s been out for some time so it’s pleasing to have him back.

He came in over the summer as a big addition to the squad and has struggled a little bit with injuries but he’s been back now for the last few weeks, played a couple of under-23 games, so we’re looking forward to getting him involved, hopefully at the weekend.

The 14 remaining Premier League managers will hold their press conferences on Friday so we will bring you up to speed on any injury updates in our regular article and video round-up tomorrow.

In an attempt to solve the debate on the best Liverpool players to own / captain / triple captain this week, I have looked at their average scores against the bottom 3 so far this season.

    Averages:
    1) Salah = 7.8
    2) Mane = 6.8 (8.5 if excluding 0 mins against hud)
    3) Robertson = 5.6 (7 if excluding 0 mins against CAR)
    4) TAA = 5.2 (6.5 excluding 0 mins against hud)
    5) VVD = 5.2
    6) Firmino = 2.4

    My conclusions:
    - No longer do I think Firmino is an option.
    - Salah looks like the safe captain option with consistent scoring.
    - Mane looks like he has the most potential for an explosive score.
    - TAA is a steal so get him in if you don't have him already.

    Data (for anyone who cares):
    Salah... hud = 8, CAR = 15, FUL = 8, ful = 2, car = 6, HUD = ?
    Mane... hud = 0, CAR = 15, FUL = 3, ful = 13, car = 3, HUD = ?
    Robertson... hud = 8, CAR = 0, FUL = 12, ful = 2, car = 6, HUD = ?
    TAA... hud = 0, CAR = 2, FUL = 11, ful = 2, car = 11, HUD = ?
    VVD... hud = 8, CAR = 2, FUL = 7, ful = 2, car = 7, HUD = ?
    Firmino... hud = 1, CAR = 2, FUL = 2, ful = 5, car = 2, HUD = ?

True....but its a reasonably logical consideration to follow...

... if you historically score more points against weak teams, you are more likely to score more against another weak team

Is it crazy to get rid of aguero for the last 3 games, he hasn't done anything in the last 4 games and only one goal in the last 6... would allow me to free up funds for Salah or Mane for TC tomorrow... the only other problem is who to replace him with as only have one spot left for Liverpool (currently have TAA & VVD)

Been a long time since I posted one of these:

    Foster (Ryan)
    Vertonghen, Laporte, Doherty, Duffy (Valery)
    Salah, Jota, Son (KDB, JWP)
    Jiminez, Wilson, Aguero

To afford Mane in for KDB should I do:

    A: Vertonghen to TAA
    B: JWP to Camarasa

Aguero hasn't been doing much in the last 4 games or so unless you think he is due.. all the goals coming from midfield now with sterling taking on a lot of shots and being on the end of chances as opposed to aguero..

Anytime you can get Kun as a differential (in this case for TC) it’s a no brainer.

Same rational I used in GW25 when I used my TC, and I’m envious of those that have the chance to do it again.

For me.. it’s a no brainer but we all have our opinions and feeling towards certain players and teams.

The home game is the reason I’d like Kun. Else I wouldn’t risk him away.

I mean it’s your team.. I assume you’re gonna captain the same guys so it’s just the extra 33.3% on top .. so that makes the decision less intimidating right ?

20 points behind ML rival and likely to have 4 different players in the starting XI per game week. I guess he will TC Mané. Do I also do it or gamble on some other option (Sterling/Jimenez next week)?

Would be a shame if my 12 ish different picks outscore his but I waste TC on a gamble, still I won't have as good of a chance to beat him. Currently within the 5k so also a bit concerned about OR and not just ML

Hello all - another captaincy question!

    - I currently have Salah, Eriksen & Son.
    - I do not have the Triple Captain chip remaining.

I plan to do Eriksen > Mané fot my Free Transfer this GW. Partly because it is Huddersfield, but partly because I do not have a TC chip remaining and essentially hoping to 'cover' Liverpool points this Gameweek.

I am happy to do this, but with the ownership of Mané over Salah, I am not quite sure who is the sensible choice to (C).

I feel more will have Mané (TC), so do I go for Mané (C) and hope Salah 'covers' the rest?

Or do I go for Salah (C) as more of a differential pick, with Mané as extra?

    Thoughts?

You’ve covered it all in your post

If you want to minimise risk then captain Mane (that’s what I would do). Higher variance approach is Salah captain. Completely personal preference in terms of risk taking

Yeah, you're probably right. I feel I want to go with Salah (C) but am going to be very, very annoyed if Mané ends up outscoring him (again!)

If you want to then 100% go for it - the fact you own mane will cover a lot of the downside anyway.

It’s literally a coin toss between the 2 which could have a huge variance in outcome. So i think you just have to go with the one you feel more comfortable captaining

50:50 who wll outscore the other.

      Would go for Salah.
-->If he performs, you are the man.
-->If Mane performs and you capped Mane, you still will be unhappy.

      Take your chance of happiness!

Haha. He wouldn't be unhappy if Mané performs and I (C) him!
(But yes, still a marginal loss on TC-ers. Although how much...)

I’m doing KdB>Mane (just done it) but think I’ll stick with Salah(c) purely because I’ve had him all season and to not captain a hat-trick would be annoying! Who knows who will do best. Mane one goal in last four last I looked..
