Captain Sensible – Liverpool the team to back in Gameweek 36

The Gameweek 36 captaincy debate is all about one match: Liverpool vs Huddersfield at Anfield on Friday night.

Fantasy managers have long had this clash on their radars, especially with the Triple Captain chip in mind.

We’ve analysed all the angles of this week’s captaincy discussion in this latest article…

Captain Poll

Sadio Mané (£10.0m) has soared into a comfortable lead in the captain poll ahead of Gameweek 36. With that out-of-form Huddersfield side coming to Anfield, our voters believe he is the most likely to reward those who trust him with the armband.

That is certainly understandable considering Mané has 10 goals in as many home Premier League matches now, more than any of his colleagues in that time.

Mohamed Salah (£13.2m) is not actually too far behind his colleague when it comes to attacking returns at Anfield. He has six goals of his own in the last 10 league matches there, with four assists to back them up.

His attacking displays in the last few matches have caught the eye once again and is possibly benefiting from a tweak to Liverpool’s midfield.

Despite that, he has still only managed the support of 27% of the voters in the poll. That places him second behind only Mané though.

Not surprisingly, Roberto Firmino (£9.3m) completes a triumvirate of Liverpool options at the top end of the captain poll for Gameweek 36, although is a long way off the top two. The Brazilian has three goals in his last three league games at Anfield and has the support of 4.6%.

The forward player is being considered by a similar amount to those looking at the other end of the pitch. Trent Alexander-Arnold (£5.6m) currently sits in fourth place in the poll with the backing of 4.1%. Huddersfield remain the division’s lowest scorers this season which means a clean sheet looks likely, while Alexander-Arnold’s role in set-pieces means he is now just one attacking return short of Andrew Robertson (£6.8m) in 2018/19.

The Scottish international has been surprisingly considered less of a captain option than both Alexander-Arnold and his other defensive colleague Virgil van Dijk (£6.6m). Robertson currently has 3% backing, while centre-back van Dijk is on 3.4%.

Son Heung-min (£8.8m) the most popular captain option outside of Liverpool’s ranks, but is still being seen largely as a differential. He has a 3.3% share ahead of West Ham’s visit to Spurs, and the South Korean is probably the most likely of his team-mates to actually play considering he is banned for the first leg of their Champions League semi-final with Ajax.

Sergio Aguero (£11.8m), Raheem Sterling (£11.6m) and Eden Hazard (£10.9m) complete the top 10 in the captain poll. Manchester City’s star forward, who has just one goal from Gameweek 29 onwards, is currently on 2.03%.

Meanwhile, Sterling, who scored eight points in Double Gameweek 35, is behind him on 1.72%. Hazard has the backing of just 0.63%.

    Perhaps a very silly question:

I can bring in Firmino for Jiminez, but requires a -8 hit.

    Foster
    Laporte – TAA – Duffy
Salah (tc)– Sterling – Mane (vc) – Son
    Jimenez – Wilson - ?

    Ryan– Ward-Prowse– Doherty - Valery

Lukaku +KDB out for Salah and up 7.5 forward for -4. Any recommendations? Doing the move to get Salah as TC as no ML opponents have him. Chasing 57 p and 87 p leads.

Do transfers feel more or les all’s significant as the season goes on? A transfer now has less time to yield points and less time to build value but at the same time you have so few and there is no chance to make up for a bad decision.

Disagree guys. Not a fan of either team so I don’t have a dog in the race. I’m also saying Pool will win this game, but reality is that it won’t come down to GD. And my sense is that Pool knows this, and their best bet was for either Man U or Spurs to do them a favour - given the severe morale hit (I’ve done all I can but it doesn’t seem to be enough), will they then conserve energy for the Barca game after taking a 2-0 lead?

Best defender for 5.0m or below?

        A) Matip - likely to start this week and a great fixture, but not much attacking threat and a rotation risk for 37/38 with Lovren and Gomez fit.
        B) Kolasinac - ARS struggling defensively, but very attacking and good fixtures (lei/BHA/bur)
        C) Shaw - similar to Kola but better fixtures and less attacking

I'm surprised Matip hasn't been more popular the past few months, but you might be a bit late to the party now. Although I don't think Gomez is ready to start just yet, and Lovren is more used in Europe, it sure is a rotation risk now.

I am on BB this week, after a catastrophic decision to TC Sterling last week. Team is:

        Lloris, Ryan
        Dunk, Duffy, TAA, Doherty, Valery
Sterling, JWP, Redmond, Son, Salah (C)

Good luck. I'm playing Duffy and Ryan. Not taking any note of people saying it's risky. It has high chance of paying off. Wolves will concede anyway.

De Bruyne + Eriksen -> Salah + 5.7 mid (deu/babel/redmond would probably be benched anyway) -4?

        Already have Mane and Robbo

        Which scores more?
Trent and Sterling or Mane and Laporte.

          Sameish for me
          2 - CS
          Sterling 1g
          Mane 1g/1a

Mane slightly higher ceiling for me if I had to.

The only way to get Mane is with -4 hit. I will TC him.

Is it worth the hit or should I just TC Sterling or Aguero??

Be careful with that one. Rogers is no mug and he'll want to get on over on City. It won't be easy.

Last poll before I make the move as I need to go to bed (Australia time):

        Lloris
        Doherty Laporte Yoshida
        Son Sterling Mane Deulofeu
        Jimenez Aguero Vardy

        Foster Valery Masina Romeu

        1 FT 0.7 ITB

Is Doherty >> TAA my best option, or should I do something else??

        Thanks

        a. Mane (c) + Matip or Duffy -4
        b. Eriksen + TAA (c)

Some advice please for the following gameweek:

        Current team:-
        Lloris
        Laporte - Valery - Trent
        JWP - Son - Mane - Erikson - Deulofeu
        Jiminez - Aguero
        Bench:-
        Ryan - Wilson - Cathcart - Bednarek

        I'm thinking of doing:-
        A) Cathcart > Matip + Ryan > Boruc (-4pts)
        B) Son > Jota + Wilson > Firmino (-4pts)

        Thanks!

Don't think A is worth a hit when you can just play Valery, B is borderline
