Top 10k FPL managers reap rewards as Triple Captain chip comes to the fore

As expected, Gameweek 36 proved the most popular for the Triple Captain chip in the end.

34.97% of managers ranked inside the top 10,000 worldwide opted to enhance their armbands with Liverpool hosting Huddersfield.

It was the Reds’ mismatch with the Premier League basement boys that inspired the swathe of Triple Captain activations, with three of the four different players chosen for it Anfield based.

21.31% of top 10k managers played their Triple Captain chip on Sadio Mané (£10.1m), who registered a healthy 13 point haul.

Meanwhile, Mohamed Salah (£13.2m) was trusted with the chip by 12.58% of managers at the highest level – an even more impressive outcome from his 19-points scored against Huddersfield.

Roberto Firmino (£9.3m), who missed out on Gameweek 36 with a muscular problem, and Raheem Sterling (£11.6m) were both backed with the Triple Captain chip by under 1% of the top 10,000.

As you can see from the table above, the Triple Captain chip still has the power to act as a differential in the closing Gameweeks of the season.

The second Wildcard and the Free Hit chips have all but outlived their usefulness as each of them has been used by over 99.6% of managers inside the top 10k.

The Bench Boost is currently on 95.54% usage by those at this level, but 12.4% are still yet to use their Triple Captain chips.

They will be considering some of the mismatches in Gameweeks 37 and 38, which include Chelsea facing Watford at Stamford, Manchester United travelling to Huddersfield and then hosting Cardiff.

Manchester City’s remaining fixtures could catch their attention with Leicester coming to the Etihad Stadium in Gameweek 37 before Pep Guardiola’s men travel to Brighton on the closing day of the campaign.

Looking at how many chips have used in the top 10,000 further highlights the opportunity for some managers within that.

82.8% of them have now exhausted their chip supply with two Gameweeks left of the season.

That means that 17.2% still have at least one joker up their sleeve between now and the end of the season, and it is possible that there are some ranked between 10,000 and 20,000 with the ability to break into the top tier with effective chip deployment.

With Wildcards and Free Hits very much things of the past now this season, the template of players inside the top 10k remains largely similar for Gameweek 36 as it was for Double Gameweek 35.

Managers at this level have kept faith in their Brighton defensive assets ahead of the visit of Newcastle to the Amex Stadium.

Mat Ryan (£4.4m) and Shane Duffy (£4.8m) both have over 56% effective ownership within the top 10k for Gameweek 36.

The power of Salah’s huge double-figure haul against Huddersfield on Friday is demonstrated by the fact that he is not among the top five most popular midfield assets for Gameweek 36.

He is in just 30% of squads in the top 10k, but his effective ownership, factoring in the captaincies and Triple Captain chips, was the sixth-best on 70.94%.

The only changes to this model came in defence and up front.

Off the back of Manchester City’s eight clean sheets in their last 10 matches, Aymeric Laporte (£6.2m) increases in popularity at the expense of Jan Valery (£4.1m).

Meanwhile, Andre Gray (£6.0m) is now the third most popular forward, although is in just 22% of squads in the top 10,000.

To have 3 pool players and not get a single BAP stings. Thought Mane would at least get 1?!

Nah he was pretty poor aside from the 2 headers. Missed a big chance, twice dispossessed, only 33% successful duels and take ons. He was also selecting the wrong option in the final third on multiple occasions.

Defender clean sheets + attacking return is bad generally for Salah/Mane.

Big chance missed for his hatty seen him drop out, regardless of the 5th goal.

What constitutes a successful TC for you? Double figures?

Irritating slightly with Mane(TC) when that 5th goal went in for Salah and Mane also hit post, but I suppose cannot be too unhappy with a brace!

(Though am a bit miffed at lack of bonus, too!)

I'd say 9+(?), but its hard to nail the successful figure.

13 is a success! I get the frustration when you compare him to Salah but its not the 1 point Sane got or other single figures in past GWs too.

Both playing teams who will be focusing on the Europa League, could be a CS hidden in there.

Any hints of Hazard being rested and I'd play Foster. Don't use an FT though.

Lesson be learned guys - never transfer in players playing under Klopp until the final minutes before the deadline. First it was TAA after Brighton, then it was Lovren, now it's Firmino. It's not the injuries themselves but the clear lying he is willing to do in pressers that has to be acknowledged.

      Beware from now on.

If you aren't going to be busy up until the deadline I don't know why people don't wait until a few mins before because if things like this

I get what you're saying but we need to be realistic here. People have things to do with their time and tbh if you've checked the pressers and an hour before kick-off nothing happens then you should be fine.

Issue is we now have clear-cut liars like Klopp, so insiders could reveal at any time that a player is actually injured and not in the match day squad.

That's what he claims but it's unlikely given he has lied about the fitness of players in the past, TAA being a prime example after the Brighton game.

What's also alarming was Klopp overstating cliches around rotation, watch his presser.

A liar doesn't need to lie all the time for someone to be wary, just enough to make them untrustworthy. Klopp's dealing of TAA's injury after the Brighton game was extremely dishonst - one second he feels something in the warm-up, then he's not injured, then he's injured with an estimated 4 week recovery period, then he's injured but not very badly because he could start at the weekend, then he's nearly there again a week later but still not ready, then he ends up missing the original 4 week recovery timescale and returns.

Am I the only one seeing the deceit here?

Maybe I should also add that the leaked information was consistently correct while the information coming from Klopp always had some element of deceit in it.

Look up the pressers if you don't believe me.

It would be if this were a one off...but it's not. The fact it happened earlier with TAA and then Lovren mysteriously appeared on Liverpool's bench then disappeared with another injury points toward him lying about the timing and duration players are out for.

At the very least, we know he lied about the defensive situation at the start of the year to avoid scrutiny for loaning out Clyne.

It's a fair warning, I for one will not be caught out again by him lying. If you think it's a coincidence then by all means, get caught out the next time this "coincidence" happens.

I wouldn’t make too much of it mate. A lot of managers do it. Eddie Howe has done it a lot this season. Liverpool are fighting for 2 trophies, it’s understandable if Klopp doesn’t want to show his hand. I’m totally fine with it

It's one thing for managers to be vague, it's a whole different can of worms when managers are being clear but lying.

I'm just saying that we should be aware that he is no longer a trustworthy source of information.

No, I'm giving a fair warning. Either heed it or ignore it.

I've said he has lied in the past and that's a fact. Watch his press conference leading into the Crystal Palace (Home) game where he says TAA is very close to featuring. Now, consider the fact insiders had already reported midweek that TAA was unavailable and ruled out for roughly 4 weeks, then the fact TAA did in fact return roughly 4 weeks later.

Unless Klopp, for some bizarre reason, failed to get a report from his medical team regarding TAA then there is absolutely no way he didn't know prior to the Crystal Palace game that he was unavailable, thus HE LIED.

'I'm not doing your own research for you' is a cop out.

Do you really think injuries are as simple as: this player has been ruled out for 6 weeks, and is then out for six weeks?

How many times have injury timescales been wrong? I remember Rosicky being ruled out for 3 weeks and missing two and a half years and Harry Kane come back in half the time he was ruled out.

You think cherry picking one subjective example confirms that Klopp is a liar? Inside information ruled out Firmino for the season. If he plays again in the next week, Klopp is no longer a liar? Tell me how your system works.

And what about all the other managers who get things wrong, wilfully or not (We cannot know). Are they all liars too?

Know a few Newcastle and Fulham fans that look back on the Championship years as the best. Getting thumped by City et al in the Holy Grail isn't the be all it seems. I'd imagine the buzz of automatic promotion is all consuming atm so best of luck and enjoy it!

just saw the scoreline (had to work late).....switched from salah to sterling (c) last minute as a differential to make up some ground as my season's pretty much over anyway.

Congrats to mane/salah cappers and especially triple captainers- wow

So was i right that i didnt did this:
Eriksen aguero -4 to salah(c) rash & did mane(c) & rolled the ft.
Considering the (-4) to get salah in, (-4) to take him out next gw (forced to do so), & maybe another (-4) in gw38 to get aguero back (if his price rised twice until gw38)

The main thing for me tonight was that the TC was a success. It was a toss up between Salah and Mané. Went for Mané and happy with that. Congrats to all those that had either of those 2 as TC

Can't believe I was foolish enough to respond to the false news on here re Mane benching a minute before the deadline. The doubt in that moment led me to cancel the TC chip. Feel so stupid as I knew Klopp wasn't going to rotate, he'd said it himself. 13 points down the drain, hope whoever I end up TC matches Mane now, around 2k OR start of this week which my best rank to date too, so frustrating.

I suppose you were on here, like everyone at that moment, seeking to benefit from a leaked line up to gain an advantage. It can go both ways.

But the people reporting false line ups should be banned.

        Just saw the scores...got mane(TC),TAA,VVD

It's a good score and couldn't afford salah so no regrets...but getting vvd instead of robbo was a honest mistake ,got caught in Huddersfield is the best game for rest thing.

Anyway the TC returned points instead of last season 🙂
