Scoutcast Episode 293 – For Joe

The Scoutcast returned on Tuesday night to discuss all the key Fantasy Premier League talking points for Gameweek 37.

It was the first produced since we found out the deeply shocking news of Joe’s admission to hospital.

Our Scoutcast host was diagnosed with a bleed on the brain last week, so we thought it best to give the show a short break.

In preparing for this latest episode, Andy, David and Az found that we were being asked more questions about Joe than about the football itself, which we found incredibly touching.

So were able to provide an update on Joe who is obviously directing all his attention towards his recovery:

“Hi, Joe here from my hospital bed.  I understand that there have been lots of kind messages asking after me.  That’s been great to hear and I really appreciate your support, sorry I can’t reply directly at the moment. I am facing a massive challenge and all my energy is focused on getting better (and triple-captaining Aguero against Leicester 😉)”

In terms of Gameweek 37 issues, we started off by looking at the dilemma of Jamie Vardy (£9.0m), who has been in fantastic form but has two tough fixtures to finish off the season.

Then we flipped things round and discussed the points potential of Manchester United players.

They have appealing fixtures against Huddersfield (away) and Cardiff (home) but are not in particularly strong form.

The Scoutcast was then rounded off by considering strategies for either protecting mini-league leads or catching up to them.

Unfortunately, given current circumstances, we will be unable to convert the final two Scoutcasts of the 2018/19 season into podcast form – but they will still be accessible on YouTube and embedded in the article below.

We hope to be able to return to cross-platform posting for the start of the new campaign.

How many points are genuinely uncatchable at this point. I'm about 35 off top 10K and I'm losing the flicker of hope that I had of breaking it this season.

I am 39 points away. I learnt from someone here that it’s almost impossible

If you captain someone like Hazard, you should be able to, although, I will buy and Cap Aguero because all my rivals own him and I wanna block them.

35 points is to much I'm afraid unless you got TC chip left. Aim for top 15k

I mean you have many similar players that are popular in the top 10k so you need to get 1 or 2 differentials in like hazard, Pogba maybe and hope they score huge while the popular picks fail.

35 points in 2 GW's is achievable for sure, but you'll need to nail your captain choice. I imagine the majority of the top 10k will opt for a City asset (Sterling or Aguero) this week, so now may be the time to roll the dice on Hazard.

You got this chief. Captaining someone like Hazard this week should help. Great differential with arguably a better fixture than City and Pool.

Would you have, for this gw,

    Salah or Hazard.

Leaves me with no other pool attacker, just TAA and Robbo.

What do you guys think of Son for this GW?
Have him in my team, but a switch could see me getting Sterling in (Would mean taking out Siggy for a 5.0 Mid though..)

Is he going to deliver against a defensively weak Bournemouth side?
    Will he outscore Sterling?

Sad and embarrassed to see a group of Liverpool fans pushing locals/tourists into water fountains in Spain. That is vile. Hope the club identify them and ban them for life. And we wonder why Spanish police use brute force on English fans - you get a few drunk idiots who set a bad precedent for the whole country.

Many of us are still holding Tottenham players after the recent double gameweek and favourable looking fixtures, but given the unconvincing performance at home to Ajax last night and with injuries taking their toll and fatigue looking like a factor, what do you now plan to do with your Spurs assets?

I have Vertonghen, Eriksen and Son, I was looking at moving Vertonghen on anyway and with last nights head injury now making him a huge doubt for the weekend, that now looks like an obvious move to make - potentially to Luke Shaw or maybe Aaron Wan-Bissaka to free up some funds.

Son I plan to keep, having had the week off due to his European suspension and up against a normally obliging Bournemouth defence, I think Son could punish his sellers and it would be folly to lose the South Korean.

Eriksen is a bit more interesting, the Dane doesn’t miss many matches and with decent breaks between games, he could well start at Bournemouth and at home to Everton, those are decent looking fixtures on paper and with returns in four of his last six games, Eriksen is in good form. That said, you could argue his rest is overdue and the likes of Paul Pogba and Bernardo Silva are enticing alternatives.

What about you - do you currently own any Tottenham players and will you be standing by or shedding your Spurs over the last two games? Does anyone plan on bringing any in or who do you plan to bring in if moving them on?

Own Lloris and Son and will not waste a transfer on getting rid of a goalie this late in the season even though I don't fancy any CS for spurs in the last 2. I see son starting against bournemouth and actually like this fixture for him. Might get rid ahead of gw 38 though as CL will take a lot of energy from them.

I have Eriksen Son and Llorente.. and I'll be moving at least one. Eriksen > Pogba looks a good move as does Eriksen > Hazard.

I'm definitely tempted to hold Son, and Llorente is likely to be my first bench player so I'm not too worried about him.

It's all about whether I want Hazard or Pogba though..

Pogba is just a pure luck transfer. He has been, in no uncertain terms, awful. Just an expensive Mili and at least Mili gets stuck in.

I only have Son, and I've never thought of getting rid of him for a moment.
As guaranteed as can be that he'll start against a poor Bournemouth defence, and no reason to think he wouldn't start against Everton either.

Vertonghen will surely miss this weekend, even given the ineptitude of the Spurs medical team.
Trippier I would also be worried about missing out this weekend.

Eriksen is 50/50 for me, think he'll play, but I don't see him as high on the excepted returns table.

I have lloris, son and eriksen. Thinking to move on one of eriksen or son (more likely eriksen) and looking at working a way to get hazard or pogba in most likely but unsure.

In the return match vs bournemouth both eriksen and son got 13 pts each in a 5-0 rout . . . .

I own the same trio - Vertonghen, Eriksen and Son.

The squad looks so thin at the moment, and the lack of investment in recent windows is catching up with them. To think they didn't have one attacking option on the bench, in a Champions League Semi Final is ridiculous and shows what Pochettino has to deal with, and what a good job he is doing.

Looking at Vertonghen + Eriksen > Kelly + Hazard for -4 this week.

Ideally don't want to take a hit on Kelly, but I need to raise funds. The other option is Eriksen > Bernardo for free which I'm considering.

Chelsea team sheet will be interesting, expect them to be at full strength, but surely Hazard starts at the weekend too, not sure they can afford to rest him after the Burnley result.

Posted similar on the last page re.Spurs and Pochettino.

Could you imagine if Mourinho had gone two transfer windows without being able to sign any players.

He couldn't get anything out of Shaw, or Pogba, whereas Pochettino has Sissoko playing like Patrick Viera.

Are Bournemouth that leaky at home though? 8 conceded in the last 5, which has included games against City and Wolves. Burnley scored 3 from 3 shots on target, Newcastle needed a 94th minute equaliser. I'm happy to own Son this week, just not sure about the attacking double up.

I've got Son and Lloris. Not convinced on Son. I don't agree he's dangerous to lose. One fresh player won't be much use when they're all in such poor form and everyone else is knackered. He's likely going for Hazard for me.

I have Eriksen, Son and Lloris. Definitely looking at shipping Eriksen. The form of Spurs and the constant referrences to fatigueness don't really fill me with confidence about Eriksen. Can definitely imagine he would be rested this weekend. Bournemouth away and Everton at home not the best fixtures anyway. Only issue is I can't stretch to Hazard without a hit and Pogba looks obvious, but him and United have not been great either. If Spurs and Chelsea win this weekend, United won't have anything to play for anymore which doesn't bode that well for Pogba

definitely, although I'm not that convinced the next games will be that high scoring for City and Bilva will rack up the points. Already have Sterling and Aguero so 3 eggs in 1 basket ( albeit City) seem a bit much

Only own Son and keeping him.

He's as fresh as anyone after missing midweek, so hoping for a haul.

Will probably keep for 38 too, as Everton home could produce goals.

The last day of the season does throw up some surprising results so you never know, but Everton have tightened up. 5 clean sheets in the last 6. Spurs struggling in front of goal too.

Aside from the recent Huddersfield game, in which I think Huddersfield have proven they are the exception rather than the rule when it comes to form, Spurs don’t have a the best record in the PL this season the match immediately following a CL tie:

      Beat Brighton 2-1 away.
      Beat Cardiff 1-0 at home.
Lost to City 1-0 at home.
      Beat Palace 1-0 away.
      Lost to Arsenal 4-2 away.
      Beat Burnley 1-0 at home.
      Lost to Burnley 2-1 away.
      Lost to Southampton 2-1 away.
      Beat Huddersfield 4-0 at home.
Lost to Man City 1-0 away.

Aside from the Huddersfield game, they haven’t scored more than two goals in a match straight after the CL tie all season. They have played average or below average teams such as Cardiff, Burnley and Southampton and have either lost or only won by a one goal margin. With their fairly small squad size, it seems they labour after a midweek CL fixture.

Spurs to me look like they are limping over the line, even before last nights match. It’s irrelevant if Son is fresh if his team mates aren’t, he can’t do it all alone. Although Bournemouth is a good fixture on paper, the fact that the Spurs squad is struggling with fatigue and form, puts me a off their assets including the rested Son. Ajax will obviously be on their mind too and the above data excluding the one anomaly in Huddersfield shows they often don’t perform after a CL match, they certainly don’t seem to win by big margins.

Looking at Eriksen to Sterling, I think Sterling will be too risky to go without for the next 2 games and may be my captain in one/both those games. Speaking of which, is there a captaincy video this week in the unfortunate absence of Joe?

I've got Lloris, Eriksen and Son. Very tempted to sell all 3! Currently looking at selling Son and Eriksen to Sterling and Redmond. Son only 1 goal in last 10 gameweeks is a worry. Obviously they could turn it all around against Bournemouth but not with the way they've been playing recently...

Have both Son and Eriksen. One of them will go
Trying to bring in hazard but will need a fund it via another move. Firmino is the tough one as there are a serious lack of downgrade options (already have Jiménez and Wilson). Rashford was the target but now that’s in serious doubt

Sat on Lloris, Son and Eriksen and chasing 13 pts gap to leader in cash mini league, who has the same 3.

Most likely going to do Son + Eriksen > Hazard (C) + Jota (-4) as a final roll of the dice.

Spurs looked so poor last night and just can't see them spanking Bournemouth. Plan could well backfire but worth a go I think!

Erksen or Vardy are the ones I am looking to sell but there are no viable downgrades.

I agree Spurs looked tired and Eriksen might get benched, but is Pogba or Bilva worth a switch? Something I am pondering.

Lloris and Son stay as great fixtures and potential for good point scores.

Son has 1G/1A in last 10 PL games, regardless of minutes. Not sure there's any folly in selling him ahead of bou away, esp as most returns in home games.

Have him & Eriksen - at least one will be going, maybe both

Have Eriksen, Son, Lloris. MLs wrapped up and I want to be adventurous, so I'm looking at hits along the lines of:

          A) Erik, KDB, Son -> Haz, Raz, Redmond (mostly for Hudds on last day)
          B) Erik, KDB -> BSilva, Hazard

Not convinced Son will be that dangerous this week given his recent form. Don't really want Silva unless he's back in the front 3, which his obviously hard to predict.

Why wouldn't Son be rested? If it's up to me, with CL trailing by 1-0 and my best striker Kane injured, no way would I want to risk Son. I would rather play Llorente than to risk Son. I can't see why people are confident Son will start or play full match. Of course it's not up to me so what do I know ...

They're only 4 points ahead of Arsenal. Dropping to 5th is a real possibility, don't think they wanna play with that. Plus, Son needs to 'warm up' for the second leg.

My plan was to keep Eriksen, Son and Llorente for the run-in of the season. But I am really put off with their performance against Ajax and considering getting rid of them all. They looked so tired and out of form.

Eriksen will most likely start every remaining match. But with so little quality around him because of injuries/rotation/bad form, I just dont see him getting anything against Bournemouth away and an in-form Everton at home. The entire Spurs squard is so decimated and there will be a lot rotation on the team which breaks consistency. And if they are to have any chance of getting back in the CHL against Ajax, they will have to save strength for that.

Son will also start every remaining match and with a rest, I can see the argument for him. But again, their worn down squad in general just puts me off and his form has not been great lately.

Llorente was a mistake. Should have gone for Long.

As my own rank is really bad this season anyway, I will take a chance and do Eriksen, Son, Llorente out and Pogba, Højbjerg, Aguero in for a -8.

I actually think that's a good move. Removing Salah only has a fear aspect and when you consider New (a) (shut up shop) and Wol (h) (they usually do well against big sides).

There's always a risk that Hazard goes mental, but there's a reason No Salah sides have done better over the course of the year - there are enough premium assets to cover the scoring from Salah this year and I'd expect the likes of Hazard to match Salah over the last two.

depends what your goal is ? chasing in ML or chasing a good rank ? defending a lead ?

Worth doing trippier and Eriksen to Digne and Sane for a hit?

Trippier to Digne yes but not sure I would loose Eriksen for Sané - less likely to start

Not great fixtures for Digne and Sané can’t be relied on for starts so I wouldn’t personally.

          Hell no!

Sane not nailed, so stick to Eriksen > Haz / Bilva / Pogba ..... and moving Trippier for a hit rather depends upon who else you have at the back

Bit out of the loop with an untimely holiday for the end of season run in. Is rashford a doubt, didn’t catch the game and unsure what the severity is?

Agreed with that but I have him in my team, weighing up to move on or hold depending on injury

        3: If Wilson, Zaha/Rash/Benteke in?

Long scored 4 goals in his last 5 games, HUD next week could be good

Salah & Camarasa to Pogba & Hazard for -4?

        Son Lucas Jota Sterl Mane
        Jimenez Aguero
        (Foster, Val, Origi, Masina)

2 FT’s, anyone put me off the following?

Duffy and Eriksen > Yoshida and Hazard?

Really fancy Hazard this week against a leaky Watford, and means I’m doubling down on 2 cheap Saints defenders for Huddersfield at home in GW38 which could yield clean sheets.
