Scoutcast Episode 293 – For Joe

The Scoutcast returned on Tuesday night to discuss all the key Fantasy Premier League talking points for Gameweek 37.

It was the first produced since we found out the deeply shocking news of Joe’s admission to hospital.

Our Scoutcast host was diagnosed with a bleed on the brain last week, so we thought it best to give the show a short break.

In preparing for this latest episode, Andy, David and Az found that we were being asked more questions about Joe than about the football itself, which we found incredibly touching.

So were able to provide an update on Joe who is obviously directing all his attention towards his recovery:

“Hi, Joe here from my hospital bed.  I understand that there have been lots of kind messages asking after me.  That’s been great to hear and I really appreciate your support, sorry I can’t reply directly at the moment. I am facing a massive challenge and all my energy is focused on getting better (and triple-captaining Aguero against Leicester 😉)”

In terms of Gameweek 37 issues, we started off by looking at the dilemma of Jamie Vardy (£9.0m), who has been in fantastic form but has two tough fixtures to finish off the season.

Then we flipped things round and discussed the points potential of Manchester United players.

They have appealing fixtures against Huddersfield (away) and Cardiff (home) but are not in particularly strong form.

The Scoutcast was then rounded off by considering strategies for either protecting mini-league leads or catching up to them.

Unfortunately, given current circumstances, we will be unable to convert the final two Scoutcasts of the 2018/19 season into podcast form – but they will still be accessible on YouTube and embedded in the article below.

We hope to be able to return to cross-platform posting for the start of the new campaign.

Depends a lot on Rashford fitness. I'd want to keep Babel for Toon at home last GW.

    Bottomed so copying here...

2FT’s and 1.1 in the bank, anyone put me off the following?

Duffy and Eriksen > Yoshida and Hazard?

Really fancy Hazard this week against a leaky Watford, and means I’m doubling down on 2 cheap Saints defenders for Huddersfield at home in GW38 which could yield clean sheets.

    B) Pogba to Hazard for free
    C) keep Pogba and Son and save free transfer

Tricky one. Son a little out of form (as are spurs) but can explode. Pogba bang out of form but had brilliant fixtures. Hazard in form and in fixtures.

I’d possibly gamble and drop Son but it’s a very hard call

    team looks good to go,
    Lloris
    Robbo-Laporte-duffy
    Sterling-Mane-Son-Jota
    Zaha-Aguero (c)-Jimenez

    Foster-Valery-JWP-Kiko

Swap duffy to AWB or Boly for 37??
    then play Valery in 38,
Play JWP in 38 and drop 1 of the wolves attackers?

  9. HamezMace
    • 9 Years
    4 years, 11 months ago

    Team this week is;

    Gunn
Laporte - Wan Bissaka - Valery
    Sterling - Mane - Son - JWP
    Aguero - Auba - Jimenez

    (Ryan, Camarasa, Duffy, Dunk)

Is there a better transfer than Duffy to Jonny (FUL) and starting him ahead of Valery (avoiding a Saints defensive double up away to West Ham)?
This leaves me with enough money to do Jimenez to Rashford in 38.

    1. Amey
      • 5 Years
      4 years, 11 months ago

Auba must be very very frustrating pick. I had him for gw 22 to 28 & missed Kun hauls also TC sane due to not having Kun so i know that feeling.
Instead of doing Defense transfer I'd rather sell Auba.
Vardy, Lukaku (if fit), Zaha, Rashford (if fit) all better options than him imo

      1. HamezMace

        Thanks Amey.
I only got him on my WC, and he did okay for me, 2 goals in 4 games...he has Brighton and Burnley next and Arsenal need to win those games, so feels wrong transferring him out, Vardy has tough fixtures, and United aren't in any better form than Auba is.

A disastrous couple of decisions lately have me trailing my ML leader by 34 points. Differentials in caps:

    Lloris
    DOHERTY Valery TAA
    Son Salah REDMOND STERLING
    Jiménez Kun RASHFORD
    (Ryan, Dunk, Duffy, jwp)

I have 0 ITB and 2 FT this week. What would you do?

2 teams breathing down my ML neck - 15 behind. We all have Ryan, Foster, TAA, Mane, Son, Sterling and Aguero.

I have 2FT, they both have one only and likely to either save or ship Eriksen.

What should my 1 transfer this GW be?
    Vert to Shaw

They both have Doherty and Jiminez also which may tie up their FTs next week.

    Ryan

Interesting this Hall of Fame analysis. I had a break for a couple of seasons which as I understand it massively impacts on your HoF ranking. If I had played the game consistently over the last 10 seasons how would the following stats place me?

    10 seasons...

    Top 1,000 = 3 times
    Top 2,000 = a further 2 times
    Top 3,000 = once
    Top 4,000 = once

    Then 3 seasons at 15k, 26k and 39k. And this 11th season currently 31k.

I think more weighting given to recent seasons which would pull me down again, as the 39k was last season (don’t give it the time I used to with a busy family life).

Keen for thoughts as I feel a couple of missing seasons shouldn’t penalise you as much as they do.

It’s paid for a few holidays over the years. But my HoF ranking was abysmal as I recall which must be those missing seasons.

It is weighted towards recent seasons. I don't pay much heed to it as it does not cover the whole world just those with registered usernames on this site.
Fortunes of players can change very quickly it will be interesting to see where Jay Eggersdoff (terrible season) Fpl General (poor season) and Az (mediocre season) end up.
But as I said I wouldn't loose any sleep over it and just enjoy the game.

Yeah not particularly bothered by it, but I do feel my record is deserving of being mentioned in such company

So you are not bothered about it, But want to be mentioned in such company?
          Get over yourself 😀
          See the contradiction there????

          If it makes you happier:

Yeah but definitely losing my touch. 39k last year, only 31k this year. It does speak to investment in the underlying statistics and watching lots of football theory (hardly watch any games any more).

2 Free transfers, thinking of doing Eriksen and Son to Sterling and Redmond. Then I'll have enough in the bank to upgrade one of my Wolves players for gameweek 38.

    Team would then be

    Lloris
    Robbo TAA Kola
    Salah Sterling Jota Redmond
    Aguero (c) Jimenez Wilson

    Bench: Foster, JWP, Yoshida*, Duffy

    Look good?

I considered those moves as well, but they could backfire. But I dont like Spurs at the moment either and they are always dire after cl.

Looks like Firmino could get a cameo v Barcelona maybe?

    https://www.express.co.uk/sport/football/1121032/Liverpool-team-news-predicted-line-up-Barcelona-Roberto-Firmino-Fabinho-Champions-League

    So likely starter v Newcastle?
Apparently the Huddersfield game came a day too soon for Firmino.

I would have mixed feelings if he does could easily tweak something if rushed back too soon.
        Would prefer a cameo.

Any advice here lads? I fancy saving the FT for the final week, but could potentially move Duffy to a Palace defender?

    Lloris
    TAA Laporte Valery
    Sterling Mane Jota Son
    Jimenez Wilson Aguero

    Gunn JWP Duffy Cathcart

    a) Save FT
    b) Duffy > Palace Defender
    c) other?

As 2 FT may come handy in case of any injuries or any massive form shifts

    Addition to post above :

    1) Vardy + Eriksen to Haz + Rash/Wilson/Zaha
    2) Vardy + Eriksen + Son to Haz + Pogba + Wilson/Rash/Zaha (-4)
    3) Vardy + Eriksen + Son to Haz + Sterling + Long (-4)

Leading ML by a narrow margin, second in ML has Haz, Pogba, Wilson and Rash and doesn't make more than a transfer at most. Help 🙂
