Submit nominations for FFScout Team of the Year

The time has come for the Fantasy Football Scout Team of the Year for 2018/19 to be decided.

We have already opened up the first poll for you to vote in as we assess which FPL goalkeepers are worthy of inclusion this season.

You can view that poll either embedded in this article below or in the sidebar of the website.

However, we still need you to submit your nominations for the other three positions, defenders, midfielders and forwards.

You can do that using the Google Form below.

Lost my cash league on the last game of the season.

Finished 2 points off first place.

So so frustrating but it shows that even a simple -4 can be the deciding factor of winning or losing hundreds of pounds!

Zaha getting 0 bonus killed me, especially when after 90mins he was due 2 bps.

Hope everyone had a good season and see you all in August.

It's the bad -4s that are the deciding factor. Simple ones and good ones aren't the problem.

    My biggest cash ML I drew (then subsequently lost to the transfer rule) thanks to the following (there are multiple so take your pick of any);

    Huddersfield goal
    Burnley goal
    TAA second assit
Mane missing out 3 BPs by 4BAPs
    Playing Pogba over Jimi

      What is that ??

Amey - It was the best! They stopped it two seasons ago I think so 17/18 was the last season it ran.

You would pick a 25 man squad (£150M to spend). You would then pick a starting XI, a 7 man bench and then have 7 in reserves. What would happen is you could change the team DURING the gameweeks. So when there's a Friday night match lets say you captained Hazard vs Brighton but he only got an assist, however Salah was playing Huddersfield on Saturday, you could take the captaincy off of Hazard and give it to Salah but if Salah performed worse than Hazard (blank for example) you would only get Salah's points. That is unless Aguero was playing Fulham on the Sunday then you could change again. Same applied for substitutes.

So you would have gameweek scores but you could make substitutes between matchdays.

There were no transfers (so to speak), hence the reserves (for your injured players). HOWEVER, you could do loans (maximum of four weeks), which would cost points depending on how long you loaned someone in for. So if someone picked up a three match ban and they had a high price you could bring in someone else and after three games they'd revert back again. It was amazing and greatly detailed (£5 entry fee more than worth it)

          Wow.
Thank you so much for detailed reply mate 🙂

This is very interesting imo. Picking squad would be very important in that case 😮

Wouldn't make sense if it wasn't detailed!

Me and my pal had so much fun with it (it's not for everyone) and the double gameweeks get really really hectic but if you enjoy FF and are dedicated it's honestly a blast. I really want the team to bring it back!

Remember you only finish the GW with one lot of C points but the changing is a headache. It's like if Pogba scored one but you've got Aguero home to Huddersfield imagine switching the armband so you lose the C points from Pogba but then Aguero blanks, you'd be gutted!

Great great game mode that I sincerely hope returns.

think the £5 buy in for Ultimate was a bit of a barrier, I agree though it was a really interesting challenge in terms of planning, and actually helped me to be a bit more rational with my main team..

You'd have to presume they're going to change the draft game after this season, barely seen anyone mention it past GW1

      1. Zenith UK
        • 7 Years
        4 years, 10 months ago

Yeah the draft game is a bit boring you literally need everyone in your ML to be regularly playing for players to actually change hands otherwise it's set and forget!

The £5 is a little bit of a barrier but given the prize pool was £10,000? I can't remember exact, those odds aren't that bad considering many who play serious by into a cash ML.

I get the feeling they won't, but I don't have inside info.

One of the major problems with UFPL was that it wasn't available outside the UK. There are so many people (like me, when I first started playing in Canada) who were excluded because of that rule. (Which exists for betting reasons).

I think draft has potential - it needs work, but it could do well. All three would be the best solution!

What do you mean by not available outside UK? I've played it from Ireland no problem, people from outside might be excluded from prizes but not playing IMO.
And btw it was great fun indeed but a bit niche because of "pay to play".

Don't remember registering criteria but I'm pretty much sure there was nothing about residence, like I said before played it from Ireland for two seasons.

I wonder the reason it was cancelled, of course not as popular as FPL, can't recall amount of people playing, maybe somebody else remember, but I would say it wasn't more than 100k.

Definitely was a much smaller clique. I have an e-mail from FPL on one of my many e-mail accounts stating the reason for it's withdrawal and a "watch this space" memo (in hindsight they were referring to the draft game mode). I'll have to have a search around.

I would love to see UFPL back but also draft mode getting more attention, I really like an idea behind it.

No reason they can't run all three. More modes = more time people spend on the website = more advertisement opportunities = more growth/income = more server strength to support the extra game modes.

      2. Zenith UK
        • 7 Years

I mostly concur with you. I hope that if we can get a mini "petition" or push from a large number of players or even players with a larger influence in the community we may stand a chance at it returning (it's not like they don't already have the coding for it somewhere).

I understand the gambling aspect of it however. There should be a opt-in/out option when signing up maybe?

Like I said with draft, unless your whole mini-league is regularly looking to make changes it can get dull or a be a "dead-team" game.

Wild Rover won £1000 in the monthly prize, lucky beggar.

Absolutely loved it myself. Came 4th the month WR won and 6th the following month....gutted.

Numbers just didn't back it which was probably mostly to do with the gambling issue and availability globally.
Always got the impression that they never really got behind it, marketing and PR but that's only an impression.
The other thing going for it was the pints system, it was more favourable to defenders and def mids, not outlandishly but someone like Kante or Jedinak (remember him) would pick up 3-5 points for a decent performance rather than 2/3.
      Bring it back I say.

Obviously a bit early to be asking about next season but interested to hear people's views regarding value in goalkeepers.

Last season the two options going into the season seemed to be 5.5m/4.0m or a 4.5m rotation, although a lot resorted to 4.5m/4.0m within the first few weeks, looking to invest elsewhere.

How do you think you'll start the season?
    5.5/4.0, 4.5/4.5, 4.5/4.0 or something else completely? 🙂

I started with Patricio and Button. Which was dumb.

Switched to Ederson on my GW3 WC and didn’t look back.

So I like the premium and fodder option. It worked this year, and last.

Less headaches and for rotation prone teams you avoid the rotation and get the CS. Obviously noticing someone like Laporte being nailed earlier is even smarter.

But I say this and the only real premiums take up a city or Pool spot. So.. maybe I’ll fall for the cheaper keeper and fodder option again.

      Maybe Pickford could be value.

Would be straight on him for 4.5m, but I'm expecting him to be 5.0m after his popularity this year.

we might be lucky. Both Foster and Fab only kept 7 CS each. Both scored similar to the year before so no reason to hike prices.Fab actually scored 10 or so pts less.

One of the current Pl teams that survived should be 4.5m I reckon together with the new additions being promoted They wont all be 5m.

He scored more points than all of the 5.0 keepers except Pickford. I would be very surprised if hes 4.5 again. It would be a mistake from FPL to price him so low tbh.

Same as usual for me - best looking 4.5 with a 4.0 alongside him. I started with Patricio this season, with Hamer on the bench. I seem to remember it working well after the first few tougher fixtures were out of the way.

I’m planning on going Ederson provided nothing unexpected happens.

3 City is optimal. Attack feels better than defence but he’s such good value for money. If you can set and forget him and Laporte that’s a lot points with no rotation worries.

The other Gk who’s really good value for money us Alisson but there are too many other Liverpool options.

I’m guessing this is wrong headed as most seem to prefer budget options.

      1. Eytexi
        • 5 Years

Ederson will never be a bad pick, it just depends on money. Will be looking to have KDB & Kun so that leaves a spot open if i can fund him.

As far as Liverpool are concerned, I reckon there's much better value in defenders considering attacking potential. TAA will be one of the first names in my team for sure.

Part of my thinking is that I don’t even want to be tempted to make a Gk transfer - made 4/5 this season.

He feels like a banker even now. But that’s what I thought about DDG under Mourinho!

Theoretically prefer to have one defence slot open for the next Digne/Doherty than a gk surprise.

          So

          Ederson
          Laporte TAA xxx

          Feels more flexible than

          Xxxx
          Laporte TAA Robbo

It took me until WC34 to get a premium defence this season.

It’s going to take some very serious price hikes to persuade me against it come GW1

I prefer to go 4.5/4.0 for value, and it worked out well this season with Fabianski for most of it. Fabianski scored just 30 points less than Allison which is a lot more value for money. But I dont think Fabianski will be 4.5 next year so its hard to guess where the value 4.5 gk will be.

Yeah, the value argument is so strong for me. 4.5 and scoring 30 points less is great. Particularly if you have a 4.5m and can factor in avoiding blanks and getting DGWs, as well as really easy home games against bottom teams.

Very early but I always go as cheap as I can, with two starters. 4.5m x2 probably.

I think it's more fun but I also like that you can catch price rises on two players. I also like the guessing of which GK is going to be the big surprise of the year

Does the FFS Team of the Season have a limit of 3 players per PL club? If so, do people really want to waste a Liverpool slot on Alisson or a Man City slot on Ederson?

There are better options like VVD, Robbo and Mane. Or for Man City, Laporte, Sterling and Aguero.

I would look at something like:

      Pickford

      Hazard(c) - Sterling - Mane - Siggy - Fraser
      Auba - Jimenez

      Etheridge - Doherty - AWB - Success

Chris Hughton is probably one of the few managers who could realistically take over NUFC without getting too much stick from the fans if/when Rafa's contract isn't renewed, he was a total gentleman last time at the club and should never have been sacked. (Please stay though Rafa.)

My guess is that he’s still going to be at Palace next year - with the same sort of enormous salary rise Zaha got.

There’ll certainly be huge resistance to selling him. It could well take I guess 50 mill or more - which doesn’t represent value. It’s not easy to pry an asset from an established PL side these days.

Bit early to say, but could we see a season where premium forwards are finally ditched by the majority?

Kane struggled this season, and is developing a nasty injury reputation.
Aguero is getting older, with a vast sea of talent around him always offering alternatives
Lukaku looked off the pace when he wasn't sidelined.
Jesus certainly wasn't an option this year

Auba the only premium to make a good impression, and he even had some dodgy patches.

Don't get me wrong they're all good players, but if our budgets are going to get pushed by premium defenders and impressive mids, it might be the forwards where we find the extra cash.

Maybe someone big comes (Icari? I haven't been following rumours) and gives another option but it is tilting that way.

Son, Sterling, Mane etc all playing so high up and defenders as wingers is definitely the trend now

Icardi is keen to stay in Italy, seen him linked a few times with Juve, so sadly a dream move to Chelsea looks unlikely 😉

Dybala has been linked to United a bunch recently, and is linked with Chelsea every year. Quieter season for him, just 5 goals in comparison to his 22 last year in the league. Could be an interesting one.

We hear it every year about how premium forwards are bad value (true), but it's that haul aspect that makes them so essential - Aguero, RVP, Henry, Rooney - we've seen it time and time again. Last season though, it was less so: Aguero still bagged a number of hattricks, but it's looking like the number of hauls will be going down rather than up, which immediately puts premium forwards at danger in our teams

The other thing is that since Liverpool score so many goals but play with a striker who doesn't really score, our view of the way the FPL system works is skewed a bit. We've got it right for the current set up of players but imagine Pool had a player like Salah in the Firmino position and Firmino out wide! We'd have another nailed, high quality forward to compete in that high end bracket.

Add to that United's terrible struggles and Chelsea's struggles to find a form striker and I think the trend could be reversed pretty easily with some specific changes from specific teams

                True,but I can't see much changing!

City, Liverpool, Arsenal and Spurs will be unlikely to change their front lines.

Chelsea would like to, but with a potential transfer ban and Hazard almost certainly off, they're a bit of a question mark regarding potential

United could be the unknown that shakes everything up. Saying there's a few problems there though would be an underestimate, which I think you might know 😉

I have to disagree with this. Liverpool play with a "False 9" as opposed to City who actually use an out and out striker in Aguero. Salah often goes up top too (such as when Liverpool switched to a 4-4-2 this weekend). I do think Salah should be reclassified as a forward but Sterling can remain as a midfielder.

In regards to Kane given his injury I feel like the golden boot would have been his should these injuries have not kept occurring. I do also feel that Rashford (if given the starting role full time as a CF next season) could be a huge option

The thing is they look at average starting position in a formation more than I think you're taking into account. Despite Firmino playing in a false 9 (I agree, of course) Salah is still starting in the wide position of a front three.

I'm not making a statement about what I think should happen at all! So if you're talking about what should happen or would be best, yeah I can see that argument. But in terms of what FPL will do I can't see Salah getting it and not Sterling.

If Salah was a forward, would you put Mane as a forward too? I'd think you'd have to..

                Potentially could make the Mane argument. The reason I think it's more possible with Liverpool is because I can imagine their front 3 looking like this;

                Mane------------Salah
                --------Firminio---------

                As opposed to City's looking like;

                ---------Aguero------
                Sterling--------Bilva

                If that makes sense?

Man, I just keep wandering back in here... nothing left to do! Best season ever, ML's won, what to do next; maybe check FFS and see what's happening, oooh, planning for next season. Is it enough? Boy this next week or two are going to be hard, why, why is it all over once again!?!

Enjoy the summer all, here's to happy holidays, some sunshine and a few cold ones before we all go again 🙂

Well, oh well.. Finishing on 27k was not that bad... 🙂

I went ultra differential with Rashford (c) in the last round, to get a big boost in the end but, obviously, it didn't work out. Got 67 points and went from 29k to 27k so it was kind of frustrating.

But this was by far my best season so I am very happy.

Thank you all of you for giving great advice and having fun together. I hope to see you next year!

Friendly reminder to upvote comments that you think are useful, that you think others should see.

More people are using the 'Sort by Rating' function, which sorts by upvotes (essentially). Try it if you haven't. It's not hugely different on articles with few pages but when they get running to 10+ it's really helpful

As an everyday user of this sort by rating - I find that one of the flaws with it is if there is a trigger upvoter who upvotes every single comment he gets (yes I am talking about FPL Virgin), it gets a higher position than a single comment that got 3-4 upvotes for instance. The latter is probably more useful to a quick reader.

You've got it mostly right, but with some other things added in.

Every user has a weighting to their upvotes. Your 'reputation' (that's just what it's called on the backend) gets +1 every time you receive an upvote, and it's -1 for a downvote (which right now only mods can do that but they've been instructed not to).

So if a user with a low reputation upvotes 4 replies but they have no/low reputation, it might only take 1 upvote from a higher reputation established user to overrule that and boost something else above it.

These 'reputations' can be manually tweaked as well, by me only, and can be frozen or reset.

If he's 6 he'd be Out of reach with Doherty imo, which is really shame as they are literally wingers oop.

I'm still getting over the fact that I've avoided Laporte for all season 😮
These attacking Defenders are new dimension to fpl & PL imo.
I mean, Liverpool's Midfield is nowhere as creative as other big teams but Robbo & Taa are their attacking veins.
      Nice to see this though

Was Doherty 4.5 this season? He'll probably be 5.5 too. If he's 6.0 then don't see anyone picking him.

          Yep.
I have a sneaky feeling that Wolves are going to face second season syndrome next season. So, he may not be a great option anyway if that happens.
Too many great Defenders to pick from.

This is the best thing I've learned this season, old me would have never spent so much on Defenders

The last quarter of the season was a disaster for me. Leading mini league since the end of August by around 80-90 points. Finished 2nd 90-odd points behind.

I should have got rid of Lacazette & Kolasinac sooner. Got rid of Rashford & Pogba once United started losing. Bringing in Lindelhof just before he got dropped/injured was a mistake. I should have made more changes to freshen up my squad for the last 10-12 games.
Not having Mane & Alexander-Arnold towards the end didn't help as my opponent had them both.

Did anyone else here suffer the same & if so where did it go wrong? I'm interested to hear. Maybe I can learn some lessons for next season?

One of my honest lessons learned is don't pick your starting XI based on player value... Got burned too many times with the likes of Hayden (NEW) and Wan-Bissaka (CRY) on my bench because I had more expensive alternatives (playing difficult games) starting instead.

Where will Pulsic be priced to start right around 6.5 to 7.0? As a Yank it would be nice to see an American flourish in EPL and gain some marketability in the States. Donavan and Dempsey where close but we need a superstar!

7.5 maybe higher (given he'll be playing for a top 6 team). Maybe more if Hazard departs?

Depends if anyone is signed - 7.5/8m I'd guess if nobody new comes in.

The big problem with Pulisic is he ha been labelled as Hazard's replacement, which whilst fair in some senses is a big ask in others.

His stats for take ons and dribbles are excellent - can't remember exact numbers but it's 9. something, just behind Hazard, which is no easy task.

Hazard however, walks around with a 64% goal involvement rate at Chelsea, with 16 goals 15 assists. Pulisic - at Dortmund - has massively struggle in this regard and needs to show improvement.

4 goals 3 assists (granted a small number of appearances in comparison to Haz) isn't really at a level that could replace Hazard - just 8% goal participation, though unlike Hazard this is for all goals for Dortmund, not just ones where's he's on the pitch (Haz total goal participation is at 49% if you take into account all goals instead of just ones with him on the pitch).

It's possible he steps up, but might be another overhyped transfer.

Then again, this has nothing to do with the original question. 🙂

Completely unfair to be labeled as a Hazard replacement as there are few on any continent that could pull that off. I am hoping for success but I don't think he can be the one to drive that at Chelsea, he would need to feed off a player like Hazard at this stage in his career. Who wants to cheer for Chelsea anyways! 🙂 As far as being overhyped and the transfer fee being too large those comments are inevitable but then again that fee was paid to purchase an American audience. I was comparing his starting price to were Richarlson started but I guess the difference is the team not the player so that makes sense.

        Thank you for the feedback!

If that ban is upheld - I hear thousands of rumours about it each day but we'll have to see - then he very much will have to be a Hazard replacement, even if he can't match him!

He's young, quick and liked to take his man on directly, exactly the type of footballer I like to see.

It's a nervy time to be a Chelsea fan, but it could be the start of something great!

And yes, it was very much a buy with one and a half eyes on expanding into the American market 😉
