Fantasy Football Scout league round-up

As we mentioned in our congratulatory message on Sunday evening, Fantasy Premier League world number one Adam Levy was also the winner of both of our FPL leagues.

There was little-to-no chance of anyone catching Adam in either league as we entered into Gameweek 38 but there was plenty of movement in the places directly below our champion, as we will discuss in our end-of-season review.

Fantasy Football Scout League

In our free-to-all league, Adam finished 70 points clear of runner-up Andrew Green.

Andrew leapt from fourth to second on the final day and finished third overall in the world, with his final-day captaincy of Sadio Mane helping him to a Gameweek 38 score of 78.

This wasn’t Andrew’s first ever top 1k finish, with our FFS league silver medallist having ranked 525th in 2012/13.

What our first two had in common was that they both used their Triple Captain chip in Double Gameweek 25, each manager successfully backing Sergio Aguero.

Jay Lovejoy and Tom Love both slipped a place in the above table on the final day but had similarly excellent seasons, ending 2018/19 in 12th and 14th place in the world.

Jay and Tom had identical chip strategies – Wildcard in Gameweek 17, Free Hit in Gameweek 32, Wildcard in Gameweek 34, Bench Boost in Gameweek 35 and Triple Captain in Gameweek 36 – and finished inside the top 1k for the first time.

Our Live Hall of Fame leader, Sean Tobin, finished 16th overall and fifth in our Fantasy Football Scout league, just seeing off the challenge of Omer Weisberg.

Sean had previously finished 923rd in 2014/15 and has four other top 5k finishes to his name.

The average scores of our top five meant that the Fantasy Football Scout league – renamed ‘Get Well Soon Joe’ earlier this week – finished the season as the world’s best (see below).

A very well done to those managers in particular.

Fantasy Football Scout Members’ League

Adam’s winning margin in our members’ league was a whopping 99 points, a sign of how dominant he has been this season given that runner-up
Tore BjΓΈrheim finished a superb 18th in the world.

Tore, like Andrew Green in our free-to-all league, only took two points hits all season.

Both Tore and third-placed Conor Myers leapfrogged Isrightlad United, himself a Live Hall of Fame high-flyer, in Gameweek 38.

Tore and Conor each scored 73 points on the final day, with both captaining Manchester City assets and benefitting from the 15-point hauls of Sadio Mane and Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Ted Wickman crept into fifth place on Sunday, despite a blank for captain Mohamed Salah.

All of our top five played their Free Hit in Gameweek 32, Wildcard in Gameweek 34 and Bench Boost in Gameweek 35.

Only nine points separated fifth and tenth, with Dino Papadopoulos just clinging on to a top ten finish.

Fabio Borges, third in our Live Hall of Fame coming into Gameweek 38, finished eighth in our members’ league and 95th in the world – that being his second successive top 1k finish.

Our members’ league was the third-best in the world this season based on the average scores of our top five – again, a big congratulations goes out to these managers.

Mods and Cons League

A special shout-out to Rotation’s Alter Ego, who finished top our mini-league for moderators and contributors.

Ted overhauled Mark Sutherns‘ 27-point lead on the final day, with his Gameweek 38 score of 87 points (eight of his 11 players registered a clean sheet and/or attacking returns) also propelling him inside the top 1k for the first time in 2018/19.

Ted ended with an overall rank of 633 and was the runner-up in our second FFS Cup competition of the year.

Beset by red flags going into Gameweek 38, Mark took an eight-point hit and ended up dropping out of the top 1,000 but added one more top 5k finish – his ninth overall – to his name after another excellent campaign.

Sky Sports FFScout League

Away from FPL, Andy Luckhurst was the winner of our Sky league.

Andy finished 11 points clear of runner-up Kieran O’Keefe and finished 12th on the overall leaderboard.

Kieran and Reyhan Iqbal, who finished second and third in our above league, were ranked 15th and 16th in the world in the Sky game.

Scout contributor Adam Hopcroft finished tenth in our Sky league and 53rd overall.

A very well done to our winners and to the managers who pushed them hard all season.

      Repost from last night.

Congratulations to Gavin Tarrant https://fantasy.premierleague.com/a/entry/47755/history who won my Home Stretch league (scoring started from gw30)

      He went FH32, WC34, BB35, TC36 going from 32k to 1200 OR.

      His 2 best GW's were 33 and 35.

Unlucky to Ahmed Ashraf https://fantasy.premierleague.com/a/entry/12298/history in 2nd who went with a very similar chip strategy but TC'd in 37 rather than 36. His 2 best weeks were also 33 and 35.

In 3rd was Prasan Singhal https://fantasy.premierleague.com/a/entry/35950/history who also used the same chip strategy and his best week was also BB35.

Over 300 people entered https://fantasy.premierleague.com/a/leagues/standings/1367597/classic (league not updated at time of writing but top 3 easy to work out). So FH 32, WC34, BB35, TC36/37 was the winning strategy in the end, at least for the top 3 in the Home Stretch league. They all nailed BB35 in particular. Thanks for those who entered. Enjoy the break.

            Potentially not.

            Trent is looking at;
            2016/17 - 8
            2017/18 - 83
            2018/19 - 185

            Robbo is;
            2014/15 - 45
            2016/17 - 73
            2017/18 - 111
            2018/19 - 213

            So he outscored TAA by ;
            65 in 16/17
            28 in 17/18
            28 in 18/19

Could be justification for Robbo being more. Especially as there is no evidence that TAA will replicate this seasons form (even though I hope he does).

Surely the evidence for him replicating this season's form is this season. I think he'll be 6.5 or 7 can't see either being more than 7. Whether or not they are worth a look in depends potential rotation with any new signings /whether Gomez is still being experimented with as a RB.

                I can't see them being 7.0+
                My guess would be

                Robbo: 6.5 - 7.0
                TAA: 6.0 - 6.5

Ok more generally. Who will be premium picks each position ?

      Alisson 6.0?

      Laporte 6.5. Digne 6.0.

      Mane? 12.0. Sterling 12.0. Salah maybe 12.5.

      Kane 12.0. Aguero 12.0. Auba 11.5

I find it funny reviewing the stats at the end of the season how much hate Alonso picked up on these forums when he outscored Laporte in PPG and scored just 16 points less than Laporte even though he played 297 minutes less. Not too shabby considering Laporte won the title with City and Chelsea barely managed 3rd.

      Thoughts?

While I say that, he only amassed 4 points less than he did in 2017/18. He just seemed to have a bit of a dreadful season, but then again, Liverpool and City (Laporte, VVD, TAA, Robbo) really stole the show, so it probably reflects worse on the likes of Alonso who actually scored okay in the light of things.

Sane and Mahrez would be unbelievable good prospects, if only they were nailed. I think B.Silva's price will go up, (unwarranted imo), but he is a sure starter. I can actually see Raheem being £12.5m.

If you finish on the same points in a head to head should there be a winner based on overall score or should the prize pot be split? Awkward situation with my brother in laws mates league where I don’t really know them.. am I within my rights to demand the cash? Agreed as winner take all at the start of the season. Big pot, would be losing out on a 3 figure sum if splitting it

All season league? Higher league position?
In the event of a tie between teams, the team who has most game points will be positioned higher.

The money should go to the guy in first place, going to be a trainwreck if ppl start making up mini-league rules as they go.

Is there an argument to give forwards an extra point per goal now that so many mids are in effect oop forwards and defenders wingers.

Also, maybe FPL will learn to classify wide forwards in a 4-3-3 as forwards.

      @TM
      I see that you're online ......
In game week 24 there was some speculation about how low you could be in the final GW24 standings and yet still have a chance of winning the FPL title. I told you that I would do a quick analysis of the top (50) positions at the end of the season and report the results.

Of the top 50 managers at the end of GW38:-
3 managers were in the top 10 at the end of GW24
13 managers were in positions from 11 to 100 the end of GW24
21 managers were in positions from 101 to 1000 the end of GW24
12 managers were in positions from 1001 to 10000 the end of GW24
Only 1 manager was outside the top 10000 the end of GW24. He was in position 13899.

It is the extraordinary performance of this last team, Jack March’s “Shark Team”, that I will use for my final calculations. Jack scored an amazing 1082 points in the last 14 game weeks, at an average of 77.29 points per week. He went from overall rank 13899 to 9! However, assuming that he would need this 14 game week haul of 1082 to overtake everyone, he would have needed to be on 1578 points after GW24 to finish ahead of the eventual winning #1 team of Adam Levy. 1578 points after GW24 would have put a manager in around the #250 position.
So, in conclusion, if you were outside the top 250 after GW24 had finished then I would say that you would have had an extremely small chance of winning the overall FPL title.

        Cheers, I noticed that earlier.
Was going to look at 51-100 for you.
        122 points between 1 and 50.
        Only 12 between 51-100
In the season with the big comeback, 2449 was a close 2nd which was about 200 less than this season.

The main issue is the winner scored 1073 and he won by 57.
It's going to be hard to make ground and have a chance to win.
In other seasons, the winner limps over the line.

      Highest: 1,419

My favourite 8 weeks of the year... when I can go back to enjoying my weekends instead of clenching over a potential Watford clean sheet. Also the time I go back and screencap my full 38 GW history for posterity (as well as some important Gameweeks because I'm extra sad).

Second highest Overall score for me of 37k. Onwards to next season, but first, a deserved rest from the green and black backgrounds!

Price? If so that bodes well! Thinking back though to when Alonso was 7 after scoring 177, and Robbo and TAA are top scoring players. Forwards were wasted money this season on the whole and Salah at 13 only got 239.

Unbelievable that the Europa final is being played in Azerbaijan. Mkhitaryan can't even play. Then there's the world cup in Qatar. I guess one way or another oil money is behind it but it's crazy.

Absolute rubbish. 100% discriminate against countries that buy it through bribery and illegal means

Haven't been paying much attention to FPL content on here due to my shoddy rank so apologies if this has been widely discussed but is there finally credence to the idea of Salah being reclassified as a forward?

After last season there was some debate but I was confident he'd remain a midfielder as he almost always lined up on the right of the front three which, by FPL standards, almost always qualifies as a midfielder (see former strikers like Son and Martial being listed as mids when they were played out wide).

But his role was different this season and WhoScored list 24 PL appearances as a right winger and 13 as a central striker and that doesn't even include a few games where I remember he played more centrally than Firmino.

Anyone know how many games Zaha played up front in 2017-18 to get listed as a forward in 2018-19? Also any chance of Son/Lucas being listed as forwards, even if it has largely been down to Kane's absence?

I'd expect Salah to remain classified as a midfielder. Liverpool have played exclusively 4-3-3 towards the end of the season and even when Firmino was injured he stayed on the wing. I'd expect Jota and Deulofeu to be reclassified though, since they played a larger share of their games up front and finished the season in that position as well (as Zaha did last season).

Son and Lucas are more complicated cases imo because Pochettino constantly changes systems and players roles within the systems. I'd lean towards them remaining midfielders, but an argument can be either way I think.

        Evening lads,

What’s the website where you put your FPL ID in and it shows your stats for the season etc.

Used it a few seasons back

Using this time to enjoy my weekends stress free again.

The highs in FPL are great but crikey, the lows can really dampen a weekend...
