Eliteserien Fantasy: Gameweek 10 preview

Gameweek 10 sees three league fixtures postponed with the start of the U-20 World Cup, which sees young Norwegian stars, including some fantasy favourites, on international duty. Odd, Stabaek, Kristiansund, Bodø/Glimt, Viking and Sarpsborg are the teams without a fixture this weekend.

We also know that all but one Eliteserien team will contest the third round of the Norwegian Cup, which takes place between gameweeks 11 and 12. Bodø/Glimt may be riding high in the league but they suffered a surprise defeat at Strømmen.

Here are the fixtures that will take place this week, plus a look at some potential chip strategies for the forthcoming schedule of blank and double gameweeks.

Fixtures

Vålerenga vs. Lillestrøm

Vålerenga are on the up, unbeaten since a hammering at Molde in GW2 and with a perfect home record so far this season. Herolind Shala and Chidera Ejuke have lived up to expectations, but it’s a different story for some of VIF’s other premium options. Matthías Vilhjálmsson has played a more reserved role than expected recently, slotting in behind Fitim Azemi, while Bård Finne’s heavily curtailed minutes make him difficult to trust.

Lillestrøm are without a win in four, including heavy losses to Bodø/Glimt and most recently Odd. Thomas Lehne Olsen continues to make life difficult for opposing defences with a goal and an assist during the Canaries’ winless run. Arnór Smárason is fit and a devilish free kick earned him an assist and 2 bonus points in 45 minutes against Mjøndalen. Josef Baccay has emerged as a budget option at left back, but this doesn’t seem an ample time to bring him in.

Mjøndalen vs. FK Haugesund

The promoted side gave a good account of themselves at Lerkendal. Tonny Brochmann has recaptured the best of his Stabaek form and remains reasonably priced. With 5 assists to his name already Joakim Olsen Solberg is every bit the set piece threat we expected him to be, but he’s been outscored by the beneficiary of his delivery, centre back Sondre Solholm Johansen. If Sondre Liseth can get on the scoresheet he could be one to watch, having picked up 4 of his 5 bonus points in matches when he has otherwise blanked.

In a blank gameweek, Alexander Stølås looks even more essential. The left back has upped his set piece game to a ridiculous level and is part of a defence with 4 clean sheets so far. Martin Samuelsen finally completed 90 minutes against Kristiansund and picked up maximum bonus points; he is the only player other than Stølås to have scored more than once for Haugesund this campaign.

Ranheim vs. Strømsgodset

A youthful Ranheim capitalised on a disappointing Sarpsborg performance last time out. A pair of 20-year-old Rosenborg loanees, Torbjørn Heggem and Olaus Skarsem, featured in the bonus points alongside talisman Mads Reginiussen. Having returned to an attacking left wing position, Erik Tønne registered his first assist of the season, setting up Ivar Sollie Rønning. The target man could be a fantasy bargain in the making, but Ranheim’s commitment to a 4-3-3 means he’ll have to keep scoring to start ahead of cult hero Michael Karlsen.

Strømsgodset’s win over Tromsø was their first since the opening weekend of the season. Yacouba Sylla registered his first attacking returns since that win over Haugesund, scoring his first goal for the Drammen club with a powerful strike from distance. His penchant for bonus points – only one player in the league has more – has made him Godset’s top fantasy asset thus far, ahead of Mos who hit the post against TIL.

Tromsø vs. Molde

After a season of relative safety in 2018, it looks like the northerners will be involved in another relegation battle this year. Missing the creativity of Daniel Berntsen and Mikael Ingebrigtsen, Gutan are also down to the bare bones in defence; Kent-Are Antonsen scored in their latest loss despite being unfavourably fielded out of position. For any fantasy managers finding themselves without a goalkeeper this week due to fixture postponements, Gudmund Kongshavn looks the cheapest available starter. He’s made 5 saves in each of the last two games, picking up a bonus point against Bodø/Glimt, and will surely be called into action against the league leaders.

A hat-trick against Viking sent Ohi top of the scoring charts and Molde back to the summit of the table. All of Molde’s midfielders are delivering reasonable returns, but it would take a brave manager to bet against fantasy top scorer Magnus Wolff Eikrem. Kristoffer Haraldseid seems to have a touch more attacking freedom than he had at Haugesund, especially with Kristoffer Haugen injured, probably making him the standout defensive option. The only dilemma here seems to be which three Molde players to pick.

Brann vs. Rosenborg

Last season this fixture was billed as a title decider, but both sides look off the pace this year. Brann have at least strung together a winning run. While Vito Wormgoor’s attacking threat has made him the most popular player in the game, it was fellow centre back Bismar Acosta who stole the show against Bodø/Glimt. His assist for Daouda Bamba may have been route one, but his winning goal, an acrobatic volley, was a finish a striker would be proud of. Veton Berisha and Petter Strand seem to have settled well and are both viable fantasy picks.

Rosenborg suffered a huge scare en route to a win against Mjøndalen. Tore Reginiussen and Vegar Eggen Hedenstad both delivered attacking returns, but the champions were far from convincing at the back. Alexander Søderlund’s winner was the first goal by a RBK forward this season – he at least seems a better option than Nicklas Bendtner who has lost the trust of the manager.

Chip strategies:

Those who used their Rich Uncle chip in GW2 may be wondering whether it was the right decision, especially if they find themselves with a depleted squad now. Gameweeks 15 and 17 look the most enticing options, featuring both blanks and doubles.

Managers still holding the Attack! Attack! chip will be eagerly anticipating consecutive doubles in GW14 and 15 for last season’s top scorer Franck Boli; he’ll face off against the in-form Torgeir Børven in the former. Sarpsborg’s attacking form will surely have to improve for managers to invest in their forwards, especially with their GW15 double including a trip to Molde. Patience could be a virtue for owners of Vålerenga, Bodø/Glimt, Kristiansund and Viking’s strikers – the teams who play twice in GW17 all have midfielders who are outscoring their attacking teammates.

Two Captains could provide further reason to back one of Eliteserien’s many exciting midfielders and defenders, but may also serve as a reminder not to rule out using chips in single gameweeks. Which brings us back to…

The four most highly owned players in the game (Ohi, Wormgoor, Stølås and Eikrem) are all in action this week, but none have a double gameweek on the horizon. All have at least 48.5% ownership at time of writing and have delivered at least two double figure scores, but this week Molde’s options are perhaps most appealing ahead of a trip to a club propping up the table.

What are your transfers and captaincy plans for GW10 in Eliteserien? What's your chip plan going forward?

      New article, great cheers 🙂

Ive done Rashani to Strand. 11 players this gw, rolling other FT.
Looking at Attack Attack in GW14, and Two captains in GW17.

Best of luck everyone, and enjoy the upcoming break.

Might get Brochmann in, unless Sell looks likely to start in which case roll FT. Doesn't seem worth transferring in a cheap playing GK this week.

Captain Vilhjalmsson atm but may bottle it again and go for Eikrem/Ohi

No chip plan really - but likely to use WC and RU around gws 15-17

          For me -
          WC1 (some time before) GW14
          Attack GW14
          two captain GW15
          RU GW17
and WC2 after the transfer season closes.

          I'm thinking this :

          WC1 - GW11
Attack - GW15 with Bamba, Borven & Boli
          RU - GW17

WC2 - maybe around GW23 to give enough momentum after optimising the team for the end, or if im on a good OR I might keep it until the last four and tailor it for those fixtures.

Between Shala and Eikrem as captain. Home versus away issue and more differential choice makes me lean towards Shala. It looks as if both Vålerenga and Molde have reserved their big hauls for home matches mostly - though that I suppose may be down to fixtures and opponents.

Looking at 2 captains in 14 probably and RU in 17 - blew Attack for close to zero returns in 2. Not sure when WC2 kicks in but I’m likely to play that early as I’m very definitely playing catch up.

I’m going with Shala too - to me he seems the best option but he’s not getting the vote - will be a good differential if it works out

This week did Rashani & Rossbach to Ejuke & Barli for free. Nobody worth a hit. 10 players and Ohi captain.

        WC in 11.
Spissrush in 15: Ohi, Børven & Boli.
Two Captains on Eikrem & Ohi for a home fixture later in the season.

Two captains on the Molde boys at home seems a decent call if that form holds up.

Thinking about it I may follow you down that route - my recent record with chips on doubles isn’t that encouraging.

Yeah i reckon two captains is best used by making the most of the ability to captain ANYONE, not just strikers (as in Spissrush). So Ohi & Eikrem at home can hardly go wrong imo.

I’m now veering towards playing 2 captains on Ohi Eikrem this week.

Home would be much better of course but it still looks a tasty match up looking at Tromso home defensive form and there’s no telling how form will look come GW22 or 23 or so. Reading here Eikrem is still looking good even if no returns just recently.

I also just want to get it over with. I have a hateful recent record with single week chips and it’ll be comforting not to have to plan for it later! My non chip record is pretty decent.

I was planning on 2 captains in 14 but looking at it I’m not so sure. Odd Molde is a turn off even if there are two home games for Odd.

17 is almost certainly RU time for me. If I don’t go now I’ll save it for late season in a prime single gameweek

        Transfer: Leikvoll Moberg -> Solbakken

        Sandvik
        Wormgoor, Stølås, Pirinen, Juárez
        Eikrem, Jensen, Strand, Hestad, Solbakken
        Ohi
        [Vaikla, Herrem, Børven, Psyché]

        Ohi or Eikrem (C)
        No chip plans yet.

        Good luck y'all!

        Thanks for the article!

Eikrem (K) because duh. Leaning towards doing Sell → Juarez because I want to keep Rashani and Ibrahimaj.

I wrote that paragraph about AA chip thinking how good a Boli/Børven double looked and then remembered I already used (wasted) it in GW2 lol. Might use Two Captains on them in GW14. Maybe Rashani with the extra chance of bonus and clean sheet points?

Definitely looking at RU in GW17 due to all my Molde and Brann players blanking.

Eikrem captain for me this week (and most weeks)

        Wc1 - sometime before GW14
        Two Captains - GW14/15
        Rich Uncle - GW17
Wc17 - after transfer window closes

        Used Attack Attack in GW2

        Done Adekugbe > Solholm Johansen.
Have 1 more FT. Unsure whether to roll it to next week so can get Boli as part of a double transfer. Or get Ejuke for Moberg this week, and use WC next week or take a hit.

        RU in DGW17.

Not sure about when to use first WC. Either going to end up not changing many players - or lose a lot of team value by rotating out the likes of Eikrem, Ohi, Borven, Stolas, Layouni to get other DGW players.

The template in ES seems more immovable than in FPL.

My feelings exactly, 9 playing but no inclination to hit for GK or budget Def/Mid, maybe Meling/Hedenstad if I could afford but their form this year has been pretty poor.

I'm not even sure about GK or budget def for free. Mid seems better but selling Rashani means using another transfer to get him back in for Odd's dgw

"two wildcards available during the season, one between rounds 2 - 16, the second after the summer break between rounds 17 - 30"

To clarify does that mean 1st has to be used by GW16 deadline (3rd Aug 18:00)?

              Newbie question if I may.

What effect does the summer break typically have? Is there anything to watch out for in particular?

For instance I seem to remember reading Molde were great in the second half of last season. Is that a normal pattern where a team comes out differently second time around?

I’m guessing that a WC to hit the 17 doubles might backfire

It's good to see some Eliteserien articles here. With EPL on a break, these should be more frequent 🙂

              Currently using RU this gameweek.

Leaning towards Eikrem captain. He's currently going through 2 or 3 gameweeks on the low but so does every player. Expecting him to start hauling right from this gameweek.

Anyone thought S.Hagen from Odd would have such a start?

Had him from the start and it was more a random pick.. Second top defender at the moment 😀

              0.3 in the bank:

I still have one FT. 10 players with GW as it is (though Sell probably won't start). Should I go RU, or save it? I feel like I should save the chip, but It's hard to get replacements for the blanks.

I don't wan't to sub Børven as I've had him from the start and it would be too expensive to get him back in due to price increase. Any thoughts would be highly appreciated.

              Playing:
              Linde
Wormgoor, Juarez, Stølås, Sell (probably not)
              Ejuke, Strand, Eikrem (C), Berisha
              Ohi

              Not playing:
              Børven, Ibrahimaj, Herrem, Bjørkan

All good short term moves seem bad long term moves considering those blanking this week have doubles later on so it's tough to call, especially with restricted funds.

Definitely wouldn't RU though - most will have 9/10 this week so wouldn't be scared of going into the week with that team even though it's not perfect.

Thanks for the article! Going into the GW with 8 players..... don't want to let good players go and then not be able to afford to get them back later. Armband on Ohi over Eikrem this week (made the wrong choice last week). Used Two Captains in Rd 2. No definite plans on when I'll use WC as I don't feel I have any burning issues on my team.

Excellent read! Thanks for submitting. 🙂

Saving a transfer this week and playing with 9 and haven't really looked at how/when to use my remaining chips. As for captaincy, it's gotta be either Eikrem or Ohi...

It's a case of gambling on the striker delivering another monster haul or going for the midfield architect who gets an extra point for each goal as well as a potential CS point.

              C) Nasberg

Depends on the make up of your squad of course. I’m really happy with my lot right now. For me any transfer in who’s going straight out again feels like a minus 4 - fielding 9 rather than using the transfer.

Risk of course. Just can’t reach Brochmann and he’s the only one I fancy

Had only 5 or 6 at most playing this week so Rich Uncle has been deployed. I have picked a team on form only. Got all the main guys in who play so should do well.

              Kwarasey
              Juárez Wormgoor Haraldseid
              Berisha Shala Brochmann Eikrem
              Bamba, Ohi, Lehne Olsen

              Bench: Sandvik Reginiussen Hansen Knudsen

Changed to 3-5-2...starting Reginiussen over Lehne Olsen now. It was a 50/50 decision between Shala or Ejuke as I already have 3 Valerenga. I have gone with Shala as he has 4 assists this season and Ejuke has none so far.

Stølås must be in surely. He alone could burn your RU with his ownership and ceiling.

Too risky doubling up with Ranheim? Can't stretch to a Vålerenga mid even if I want to, so Børkeeiet/Brynhildsen > Reginiussen/Valla Dønnem seems the only options I can think of.

              Team would be:
              (no playing GK)
              Stølås - Wormgoor - Haraldseid - Sell
Eikrem - Strand - Reginiussen - Valla Dønnem
              Vilhjálmsson - Ohi

My budget was 5,8 and practically only ones I could think of were Solbakken (two assists in two last games he started) & Lekven (bonus points?). Ended up getting former.

Forgot about Lekven! He has some recent returns, which might make him a better option than Valla Dønnem. Solbakken haven't played more than three 90 min games though, which is a worry.

Lekven is more secure option than Solbakken but the latter has started at one of three forward positions in last three games he has started (was ill at one recent game) so I couldn't resist.

Didn't know that! Looks like Lekven starts, but a cheap option playing OOP is too good to resist. 🙂

No, unfortunately. 2,8m itb, and if I make the Brynhildsen > Reginiussen transfer, I can only upgrade Børkeeiet to a 4.9 mid at most.

Fantasy Football Fix have really gone ridiculous.
They have created an algorithm to predict the fpl prices to a 98% level of accuracy.

Seriously though why would you bother?
Just wait until it goes live which is normally a whole month before the season kick off.
People who pay for all that needless stuff need thier head examined, a fool and his money is easily parted.

Do you know where I can find details? Can't locate them on the site

                            When it starts etc

Think it was around Runde 14 or 15 - given there are just under 55K teams that would work to have the final in Runde 30
