Premier League release fixtures for 2019/20 season

The Premier League have released the full fixture list for the 2019/20 campaign and our Season Ticker will soon be updated with it.

It will begin on the evening of Friday, August 9 at Anfield, where Liverpool will host Norwich City.

Considering the Canaries’ poor defensive record even in their promotion-winning campaign, this fixture already looks like an ideal one for the captaincy.

Of course, that could be reliant on whether Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mané are back in full swing after competing in the African Cup of Nations over the summer.

Reigning champions Manchester City will start the defensive of their title the next day as they travel to West Ham United for the lunch-time kick-off on Saturday, August 10.

If the Hammers’ pre-season campaign suggests they have not solved last season’s problems at the back, and if predicting Pep Guardiola’s starting line-up isn’t too difficult, either Sergio Aguero or Raheem Sterling could also receive captaincy attention.

Alternatively, this could be an interesting fixture for Lukasz Fabianski at the very least, who looks likely to secure save points en masse in Gameweek 1.

Gameweek 1 fixtures in full:

Fri Aug 9 20:00 Liverpool v Norwich City
Sat Aug 10 12:30 West Ham United v Manchester City
Sat Aug 10 15:00 Bournemouth v Sheffield United
Sat Aug 10 15:00 Burnley v Southampton
Sat Aug 10 15:00 Crystal Palace v Everton
Sat Aug 10 15:00 Leicester City v Wolves
Sat Aug 10 15:00 Watford v Brighton & Hove Albion
Sat Aug 10 17:30 Tottenham Hotspur v Aston Villa
Sun Aug 11 14:00 Newcastle United v Arsenal
Sun Aug 11 16:30 Manchester United v Chelsea

Another eye-catching fixture among the opening round of matches is Saturday tea-time’s meeting between Tottenham Hotspur and Aston Villa.

The Villans arrive in the Premier League needing to make several changes at both ends of the pitch as they achieved promotion with some important loan players.

Even still, their defensive record was not hugely enviable and could allow options such as Harry Kane or Lucas Moura the opportunity to score big in Gameweek 1.

Villa’s fellow newcomers Sheffield United will begin life back in the top flight away at AFC Bournemouth.

That means the Cherries are hosting a newly-promoted team in Gameweek 1 for the second season running.

An opening weekend fixture likely to be avoided by Fantasy managers is Manchester United’s clash with Chelsea at Old Trafford.

This takes place at 16:30 on the afternoon of Sunday, August 11 and will certainly be of huge interest outside of the Fantasy bubble.

However, with both teams potentially much-changed after a busy summer, it will certainly be a hard one to predict.

Arsenal will have started their campaign earlier that afternoon as they are set to travel to Newcastle, who could have new investors by then.

Graham Potter’s first competitive match in charge of Brighton will be away at Watford, while Crystal Palace host Everton – both matches taking place on the Saturday afternoon.

Burnley and Southampton reverse their first league match of 2018/19, when they met on the south coast. This time around, the two teams go head-to-head at Turf Moor in Gameweek 1.

Two teams who could be looked to for mid-price options in 2019/20 face off on Saturday afternoon too as Leicester City host Wolves.

Looking beyond the opening weekend, both of those sides have hard to predict fixtures in Gameweek 2 too.

Leicester must travel to Chelsea while Wolves host Manchester United.

Also, both Liverpool and Manchester City, who will almost certainly contribute large numbers of players to Fantasy squads, have trickier matches on the second weekend than they had on the first.

Guardiola’s men host Spurs, while Liverpool face Arsenal at Anfield.

That said, each side has proven in the past they are more than capable of scoring against those opponents.

In fact, both Liverpool and Manchester City appear to have favourable fixtures for at least the first eight Gameweeks and we could be looking at triple-ups for each club.

Liverpool’s first eight fixtures:

  • Gameweek 1: Norwich City (home)
  • Gameweek 2: Southampton (away)
  • Gameweek 3: Arsenal (home)
  • Gameweek 4: Burnley (away)
  • Gameweek 5: Newcastle (home)
  • Gameweek 6: Chelsea (away)
  • Gameweek 7: Sheffield United (away)
  • Gameweek 8: Leicester City (away)

The hardest match within this run is probably that Gameweek 6 trip to Chelsea, although there has been plenty of promise about Brendan Rodgers’ Leicester side.

Perhaps Gameweek 8 might prove the time to move away from Liverpool assets, especially with a trip to Manchester United coming in Gameweek 9.

Manchester City’s first eight fixtures:

  • Gameweek 1: West Ham (away)
  • Gameweek 2: Tottenham (home)
  • Gameweek 3: Bournemouth (away)
  • Gameweek 4: Brighton (home)
  • Gameweek 5: Norwich (away)
  • Gameweek 6: Watford (home)
  • Gameweek 7: Everton (away)
  • Gameweek 8: Wolves (home)

Manchester City’s first eight Gameweeks also look rather favourable as a whole.

After hosting Spurs in Gameweek 2, they don’t face another member of last season’s top six until travelling to Liverpool in Gameweek 12.

Much has already been made of Spurs’ home fixtures as Watford are the only top-10 side from last season they will host before Chelsea visit on December 21.

However, it may be hard to invest too heavily in the early Gameweeks.

That’s because Spurs have away trips to Manchester City and Arsenal in their first four.

Tottenham Hotspur’s first eight fixtures:

  • Gameweek 1: Aston Villa (home)
  • Gameweek 2: Manchester City (away)
  • Gameweek 3: Newcastle United (home)
  • Gameweek 4: Arsenal (away)
  • Gameweek 5: Crystal Palace (home)
  • Gameweek 6: Leicester (away)
  • Gameweek 7: Southampton (home)
  • Gameweek 8: Brighton (away)

Those who were hoping to invest in Teemu Pukki for the start of the season may have to quell their interest.

Despite his prospects as a Fantasy option, Norwich’s first Premier League fixtures in 2019/20 are particularly nasty.

In the first five Gameweeks, they face Liverpool (away), Chelsea (home) and Manchester City (home).

Likewise, Wolves fixtures look tricky too, made perhaps harder by an earlier start to the campaign due to their involvement in the Europa League.

Manchester United (home), Chelsea (home) and Manchester City (away) are all three opponents that come after a trip to a resurgent Leicester on opening weekend.

Wolves first eight fixtures:

  • Leicester City (away)
  • Manchester United (home)
  • Burnley (home)
  • Everton (away)
  • Chelsea (home)
  • Crystal Palace (away)
  • Watford (home)
  • Manchester City (away)

Trouble is what’s the price of Fraser & Wilson going to be. I can see Fraser being £7.5 mill and Wilson at £9 mill. Too much to fit them and get a decent squad at the start of the season.

      Hard to say right now.

I heard Maguire is a top target, but Leicester would surely demand a huge fee.

Otamendi looked like he was off a few months ago too but that's all gone a bit quiet. With Kompany leaving could he be persuaded to stay, with the offer of more first team football?

If you are looking at the first 9 GWs then the best rotation pairs are:

      1) BHA / CRY (no tricky fixture pairs)
      2) BOU / WHM (no tricky fixture pairs)
      3) BHA / WHM (no tricky fixture pairs)
      4) BUR / WHM (one tricky fixture pair in GW9)
      5) SOU / WHM (one tricky fixture pair in GW9)
      6) BHA / WAT (one tricky fixture pair in GW7)
      7) BOU / WAT (one tricky fixture pair in GW5)

      Across the season:

      1) BHA / WAT (Avoid all the Top 6)
      2) BUR / NEW (Avoid all the Top 6)
      3) BUR / WAT (Avoid all the Top 6)

  13. Coys96

    Planing something like this:

    4.5 / 4.5

    Digne 5.5 /TAA 7.0 / Laporte 6.5 / 4.5 / 4.5

    Salah 13 / Sterling 12 / Sigurdsson 7.5 / Richarlison 7 / 4.5

    4.5 / Wilson 7.5 / Arnautovic 7.0

Imo it will be very difficult to triple up on City and Liverpool. May triple up on everton 😀

      I like the look of:

      Henderson
      TAA, Robbo, Digne, Laporte, Ritchie/Mendy
Salah, Sterling, cheap mid (JWP/Redmond etc)
      Vardy, Pukki
Plus one other dirt cheap attacker & a 17.5-18.5m bench

It’ll be tight, but might just about squeak that in under 100.0 in total

I'm thinking of adopting a 5 at the back strategy this season, probably 541.

2 Liverpool defenders seem a must to me along with Laporte and that aint gonna be cheap. Sterling/Liverpool Mid also a must, and to afford this you can't go big on forwards. Possibly lone striker and 2 cheap ones to fund the defence.

    Am I crazy?

Pretty sure i’ll be joining you

Salah, Sterling Vardy are the only attackers I’m really excited about at the minute

TAA, Robbo, VVD, Digne, Laporte, Mendy, Ritchie on the other hand is a quite frankly ridiculous pool of FPL defenders to choose from

If Ritchie is reclassed and Mendy is fit (not massive ifs) have we ever had this sort of depth of pool when it comes to FPL defenders?

I can’t remember it ever being like this in 11 seasons, and it wasn’t that long ago that prime Baines, Vidic & JT were knocking about

I can remember lots of talk of back 5’s in preseasons past with an average pool of defenders... with this pack.... I think it’s going to be difficult not to indulge tbh

Even just Digne, TAA, Ritchie alone are all on set pieces, FKs, Corners & even pens in some cases

True but there are plenty of midfielders that take my eye more than defenders. That Everton midfield will be a lot better this year, West Ham will have a decent midfield to pick from. Fraser will be good again this year.

I get the whole you can save money with defenders but midfielders are the way to go with assists and goals.

Richie is a good shout but mendy for me could have less playing time with zinchenko knocking at the door and pep was impressed with him so he will get minutes. A lot better selection of defenders but 5 at the back is a bit rich for me.

I’m not 100% sure Siggy & Rich will be affordable this year, I could see 8.0 - 8.5 a piece for them give or take... 9.0 might be for Siggy as he was those 3 missed pens away from breaking 200 points...

TAA, Robbo & VVD actually outscored both Siggy & Rich... and Laporte pretty much matched Siggy

Adjusting Ritchie’s scores to be a def would be scary if he’s around 5.5 should be good for 150-170

Mendy if fit just breaks the game for FPL points

No doubt Everton could do well, they finished the season very strongly, but I fear price rises will kill Siggy & Rich... dame with Fraser - he’s getting a hefty hike in price for sure - Fanderson will be same, and he turned into a bit of a hate figure as last year wore on despite his good season

            Hopefully the prices are kind

Sheffield United has some decent early fixtures. I might be interested in getting Dean Henderson (if loan is renewed) or O'Connell for his potential attacking returns. Enda Stevens will probably be priced at 5.0

If you don't mind an early WC the triple Bournemouth attack looks quite tempting.

    Henderson
    TAA - Laporte - Duffy - Digne - Robertson
    Salah - Fraser - Sterling
    Wilson - King

              4.5
              6.5 - 6.5 - 5 - 5.5 - 7
              13 - 7 - 12
              8.5 - 7

              Bench: 17.5

Liv defenders might be a bit more. Wilson might be a bit less. I could see it ending up a touch over 100m and then something would have to change. King to Calvert-Lewin for example.

It's really just about looking at a 5-3-2 formation, fitting in a lot of players with good early fixtures. Not exactly a big deal, it is a fantasy football forum after all.

Hmmmm... I think TAA has to be more expensive than Laporte on both points and PPM - I think he’s 7.0 to Laporte’s 6.5

Also can’t see Digne being less than 6.0 and fear Robbo is 8.0 to VVD’s 7.5

Not sure Frase will be less than 7.5 but you never know

Yep could all be true. All I've done is build a hypothetical squad within budget based on Fantasy Football Fix predictions. It's not rocket science and I've never claimed it will be 100% right. If it's 1-2m over, something changes. Seems like I should have just said "Bournemouth attack looks tempting". It's not even a RMT, some people are just sad.

                Your welcome.
You're pushing it (or FFF are).
Originally I thought 103m, that may be overstated but I'd say 102m, at least 101.5.

My original point is nobody bothers to post on here for weeks on end then first day of fixture list it's a clamour to post an even worse version of RMT's, ones where people are guessing prices.

If it's 101.5 I would consider that somewhat "close". It's only 1 position to downgrade to get back under budget.

I'm well aware what your original point was. I just think your comments are unnecessarily picky and quite frankly a bit annoying, especially given how slowly the pages are moving around here. Who cares. It's FPL chat, on the day the fixtures were released, and my OP came with a comment about Bournemouth attack looking interesting. The team was just a bit of fun, I could have simply said I would consider Wilson and Fraser double up, and wouldn't rule out a triple up.

Each to their own. You're clearly still carrying a bee in your bonnet over random HTs from last season that I had absolutely no control over.

It’s a philosophical debate I suppose - which is more tedious, posting early thoughts on FPL, posting that posting early thoughts on FPL is tedious, or posting a question on whether posting that posting early thoughts on FPL is more tedious than posting early thoughts on FPL...

Go on - who is your bench fodder? Surely you'd want 1-2 starters.

Of course you are also 100% that Salah and Sterling will be classed as mids.

I'd like to bookmark this post and see how "close" it will be.

100%? Of course not. Reasonably confident? Yes.

Salah and Sterling are not FPL forwards. If they didn't get reclassified after the previous season they probably won't after this one just gone either.

Bench fodder is exactly that, all the lowest price points available. Dendoncker, McTominay, Success etc. Doesn't matter, I have a fairly active style of management so I'll probably be making 1-2 transfers every week no matter what, therefore very little need for a bench as the moves happen as close to deadline as possible take all information into account. Even having one decent bench player to start last season was annoying, too many benched points.

Fantasy Football Fix has price predictions for all players and you can save multiple drafts to mess around with in pre-season. Nobody every claimed they knew the prices. It's just a bit of banter based on some prices that might be close to the mark. Or they might not be. Kind of like everything else in FPL and life.

I've never used it before but I can imagine that would've been the case. Still, I'm hardly going to write them a complaint if their predictions are inaccurate. It's good enough for a bit of early pre-season flirting with the kind of formations that might work. At least you know they're in the rough ballpark. FFF have Wilson at 8.5m, which I think is the absolute limit for him, so it's not as if every single player is drastically underpriced by their algorithms and clearly wrong. I do think they have listed all the Liverpool defenders cheaper than they actually will be though.

Can’t bring myself to pick Fraser & Wilson at 7.5/8.0 when I got them for 5.5 & 6.0 last season... early fixtures look gr8 though

Brooks will be interesting if he was sub-6.0 but again will probably get 6.5 with King 7.0 or 7.5

That’s my GK + backline though with Ritchie instead of Duffy 😉

Probably too early to post this but I had a thought.

I’m assuming the majority will be looking to Salah/Mane and Sterling as rotating captains for the first 7 GW’s or so.

Is it a realistic option (again assuming a fair amount has been spent on premium defenders) to go with forwards such as Vardy/Wilson, DCL and 4.5 as they will very rarely be captained during the opening weeks?

Is it too risky or would the premium defenders be able to make up for the lack of premium strikers?
