Ivory Coast bench Zaha as Djenepo features for Mali

More Fantasy Premier League assets were involved in another day of international football on Monday.

The Copa America group stages came to a close while England Under 21s ended their involvement in the age-group Euros.

Meanwhile, there were some Fantasy talking points to emerge from the latest African Cup of Nations matches.

Copa America

Chile 0-1 Uruguay

Alexis Sánchez in action for Chile against Uruguay

Alexis Sánchez was the only Premier League player to feature in an eventual clash between Chile and Uruguay.

The Manchester United man had a chance to put his country ahead inside the opening 10 minutes, as Chile made a bright start to the encounter.

However, Uruguay felt their way into the match and won the game to top Group C when Edinson Cavani struck in the 82nd minute.

That means we now know the line-up for the quarter-finals of the tournament.

Hosts Brazil will face Paraguay at 01:30 BST on Friday June 28.

Later that day, Venezuela and Argentina will contest the second quarter-final at 20:00 BST.

Colombia vs Chile takes place at 00:00 BST in the early hours of Saturday morning before Uruguay play Peru at 20:00 BST that day.

AFCON 2019

Ivory Coast 1-0 South Africa

Jonathan Kodjia was rewarded for his patience against South Africa

Persistence paid off for Jonathan Kodjia as Ivory Coast, captained by Serge Aurier, edged past South Africa on Monday afternoon.

The Aston Villa striker scored the only goal of a pretty poor game but had already spurned two golden chances in the first half.

First, he was played through by Nicolas Pépé but failed to connect with the ball when swinging his shooting foot.

Later on, Kodjia had an even better opportunity as he found himself one-on-one with Ronwen Williams following a poor clearance but he could only fire it straight at the goalkeeper from close range.

In the end, the forward finally found the breakthrough when, played in by Max Gradel’s cross, he slotted under Williams from close range.

Curiously, despite being arguably their best player on paper, Wilfried Zaha continues to be used as an impact sub for Ivory Coast.

He added some threat down the left flank after he came on for Jean Michael Seri in the 69th minute.

He could start the next match for Ivory Coast though, against Morocco on Friday.

Winger Gradel had to come off with an injury in the 89th minute, and Zaha would be a perfect like-for-like replacement for the former Bournemouth man.

Mali 4-1 Mauritania

Moussa Djenepo (right) was booked and taken off after an hour for Mali on Monday night

Southampton’s new signing Moussa Djenepo was the only Premier League representative as Mali dispatched Mauritania 4-1.

As referenced in our Scout Report earlier this month, he was stationed on the left flank of a 4-2-3-1 as an inverted winger.

Djenepo was a lively option down that side of the pitch and had several opportunities in the first half but could not find the back of the net.

He did display something of a temper in the game, picking up a yellow card for a late tackle in the first half.

In fact, he was lucky not to get another booking for a similar challenge later in the match and was substituted on the hour mark.

Djenepo did appear a little too easy to wind up but seemed more frustrated by his own actions than those around him.

When failing to convert his chances, he was visibly angry not to have scored.

It will be interesting to see if that temper comes with him to the Premier League in 2019/20.

UEFA U21s Championship

Croatia U21s 3-3 England U21s

It was the same story for England Under 21s in their final match at the age-group Euros tournament.

Their attack showed decent form, this time featuring a return to the starting line-up for Phil Foden and Chelsea striker Tammy Abraham.

Leicester’s James Maddison started for the third match in a row and got his first goal of the tournament, after assisting Foden in the opener.

Arsenal’s Reiss Nelson also came into the side and scored an 11th-minute penalty.

However, the usual problem for Aidy Boothroyd’s side was in defence.

After a poor game in the opening match of the tournament, there was no return for Crystal Palace’s Aaron Wan-Bissaka, with Jonjoe Kenny playing at right-back for the second game in a row.

The Everton man, set for a loan at Schalke in 2019/20, scored an excellent goal but was at fault for Croatia’s first of the encounter.

England U21 XI (4-3-3): Henderson; Kelly, Clarke-Salter (Konsa 49′), Tomori, Kenny; Foden, Dowell (Mount 56′), Maddison (Gibbs-White 73′); D Gray, Abraham, Nelson.

5th season in the Premier League for Zaha, performing at a consistently high level. Crazy how he's not starting every game for Ivory Coast.

The main concern about Citeh coverage last season (for me at least) was high investment but with the threat of Peptation.
The early gesture of Jesus getting the '9' shirt is an Aguero concern.
I'm seeing Sterling as probably a nailed elite but where else will the value lie.
KdB looks promising depending on price, BSilva will be monitored by all,Laporte less so for me because of price and other prime defender picks ( Pool, Digne etc). Zinchenko might still be a bit premature punty.
So where is the Citeh value going to be in opening squads.

That's how my defences usually end up looking, but hopefully I don't fall into that trap this time around. Thinking TAA, Digne and Robertson; but will probably end up with Ritchie if cheap.

I don’t think Aguero wants number 9 otherwise I’m sure he would’ve got it when they gave it to Nolito. I think it was free last season but he still kept number 10

Bilva, Sterling, Laporte for me are the go to guys. Will likely go cheap in attack as no one screams value over the 9-10m bracket.

Sterling and KDB are the first two names I'm looking at. Think I'd rather have double Liverpool defence and Digne than a City defender but obviously don't think any of the defenders are bad options.

As terrible as it sounds an injury to either Aguero or Jesus would make the Citeh attacker decision a lot easier as I can see their being more rotation at that position this season, from the mids you'd expect price rises to both Sterilng and Bilva so a fit KDB might offer better value to begin the season with.

With Mahrez playing in ACON hopefully Pep gives him more rest in the first few weeks, making KDB or Bilva more appealing if pretty much nailed on to start.

Ederson over Laporte is my thinking.

I don’t see any problem locking into two outfield players until budget allows.

Last season there was little difference in returns until Laporte struck gold in 34 on. I don’t see him as I do other premium defenders. So if Ederson comes in 0.5 or even a mill cheaper I’m happy.

It also of course opens up the possibility of double City defence at some point.

Should be a 5m FPL defensive midfielder, do he likes a yellow card so expect a string of 1 and 2 pointers. Still if he suits Everton's system and it gets more returns out of Siggy and Richarlison there may be a net gain for us FPL players.

The makeup of my GW1 team will depend when I choose to use the first WildCard. Eg: fixtures over 3 weeks, 6 weeks or longer.

GW4 fixtures are pretty decent for a lot of teams, a part of me is thinking BB GW4 and then WC in the international break to downgrade a couple of the defenders but we'll see

Using BB that early feels like wasting it, when there'll be doubles later in the season and mainly, a lot more information by then, compared to as early as gw4.

I want to keep mine for as long as possible.

I plan to load up on teams with a good run of fixtures like Everton, good up until GW13 or 14 and fixture proof teams like city and pool. Chelsea also have a nice schedule after gw1 then Arsenal have a great run of easy games around GW8.

Hopefully I can jump on the runs with weekly transfers.

Pretty much the same here; however, I'm semi-planning on punting on differentials Zinchenko (if defender) and Foden in the gamble that they play regularly. If I'm wrong and need to bring in orthodox Citizens, I'll need a WC to regroup. In addition, Everton may turn out to be meh, and I may have got it badly wrong in overlooking any Chelsea, United, Spurs and Arsenal assets.

I generally use it early anyways, you can normally use it to lock in a team that’s worth 102.0-ish fairly easily early on given the mass of transfer activity with over 6 million fully active managers for the first couple weeks - this season I’m hoping to start with all 4 first choice Merseyside fullbacks and either Ederson or Laporte though - in theory should be relatively “fire & forget” so may inadvertently negate an early WC...

But then again we see time & again that those first few gameweeks can throw up some really unforeseen circumstances so the early WC always has to be on standby imo

GKs will still be pinned at 6.0m max if the last couple of seasons are anything to go by. DDG was 6.0m to start last year after a stellar campaign

      Digne will be 5.5m

No way KDB is 8.5m...9.5m at least

Richarlison seems cheap at 7m...he's probably 7.5m

He seems to be a bit of a Pogba, maybe more of a replacement for Dembele. It would be a massive midfield if he played alongside Eriksen. If Eriksen leaves I think Dele Alli has to step up and dominate the front midfield a bit more.

Really fascinated to see how he adapts - although despite being 6 months younger than Alli, overall he hasn’t played many games in his career, hasn’t yet played 10 champions league games, has never played a single La Liga, Serie A, Bundesliga or Premier League game, has never played outside of Ligue 1, and only made his first appearance for France less than a year ago

But undoubtedly he comes with many people endorsing his huge potential, and if Poch/Levy are willing to spend that kind of cash on him its probably a good sign

That transfer fee is eye watering though - and does no harm to Kante/Pogba’s current market values...

I know that VAR didn’t lead to an increase in penalties in the other leagues but I still kind of think that we’ll see in increase in penalties.

The handball rule now makes it so that if the ball hits a defenders arm, it is almost always a penalty. The natural position rule hasn’t been helping as even if it is just an inch away from the defenders body or the defender is moving his hands behind his back they’re still getting called for a handball.

Also penalties have been being given if the attacking player is touched inside the box no matter how soft it is. Replay makes any contact look worse than it is. Players will be flopping even more now.

Pep never plays a new DC regularly from the off. Stones and Laporte had to wait to be eased in. Maguire will alternate with Stones, and probably not for a few weeks. I'd pay the extra for Laporte if I were going for one of them. As it is, I'm looking to Zinchenko as a budget differential (and risk!)
