FPL reveal Salah’s price and position for 2019/20

Following Wednesday evening’s surprise announcements, Fantasy Premier League released five more player prices ahead of the game’s relaunch for 2019/20.

The big news saw Mohamed Salah drop in price and remain an FPL midfielder.

Mohamed Salah (£12.5m) – Midfielder

Perhaps the headline price reveal of the day sees Mohamed Salah not only stave off a positional reclassification but also drop in price.

The Egyptian was £13.0m a year ago and got as high as £13.6m in Gameweeks 24-28 of the season just gone.

While he couldn’t match his record-breaking returns of 2017/18, Salah was still the highest-scoring FPL asset of last season.

Salah remaining as a Fantasy midfielder presumably means that there won’t be any seismic shift in terms of positional grouping (i.e. wingers in a front three won’t be reclassed as forwards) and that the likes of Sadio Mane and Raheem Sterling will remain as FPL midfielders.

All eyes will be on Mane’s price reveal, whenever that may come, to see how much the Senegalese winger has risen ahead of 2019/20 and how much cheaper he is than Salah this time around.

Jack Grealish (£6.0m) – Midfielder

The first Fantasy asset from the newly promoted clubs has been revealed.

Jack Grealish will cost FPL managers £6.0m next season, having registered six goals and seven assists in 34 Championship starts in 2018/19.

Grealish tends to play as one of the two more advanced central midfielders in a 4-1-4-1/4-3-3 though is given license to get forward from that position under attack-minded manager Dean Smith.

Grealish takes his fair share of corners for Villa and had a better rate of chances created than any of his teammates in the second tier.

It’ll be interesting to see what price Conor Hourihane, Villa’s other dead-ball expert, is listed as when the FPL game launches.

Callum Wilson (£8.0m) – Forward

Callum Wilson is the second Bournemouth asset priced up by FPL and, like Ryan Fraser, he has been handed a £2.0m rise from his starting price last season.

Wilson finished 2018/19 as the fifth-highest-scoring FPL forward despite missing eight of Bournemouth’s league matches.

Sergio Aguero and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang were the only strikers to register more attacking returns than Wilson (26).

It’ll be interesting to see what price Joshua King and Raul Jimenez are as a result of this announcement: King as an alternative route into the Bournemouth attack and Jimenez as a rival in the upper mid-price/lower premium forward bracket.

King indeed outscored Wilson in the preceding three seasons, although there were mitigating circumstances (injuries being one) for that.

Teemu Pukki (£6.5m) – Forward

Norwich City’s main goal threat has been listed as a £6.5m forward, exactly what Aleksandar Mitrovic was at the start of 2018/19.

Teemu Pukki plundered 29 goals in the Championship last season, with not one coming from the penalty spot.

The Finland international was joint-top for shots in the English second tier in 2018/19 and first for efforts in the box.

Pukki also contributed nine assists to the Canaries’ promotion-winning campaign.

Norwich face Liverpool, Chelsea and Manchester City in the opening five Gameweeks and sit bottom of our Season Ticker as a result.

The picture looks rosier from Gameweek 6 onwards, so Pukki may enter the FPL radar from that point.

The Canaries have signed striker Josip Drmic in the past few days, however, which will add to Pukki’s competition up front.

READ MORE: Our Scout Report on Josip Drmic

Raul Jimenez (£7.5m) – Forward

Wolves striker Raul Jimenez has been handed an expected price hike after his much-heralded debut Premier League campaign but the rise isn’t perhaps as bad as feared.

Jimenez began 2018/19 as a budget £5.5m option but rose more than any other FPL asset over the season, briefly hitting the £7.0m mark.

The Mexico international, currently representing his country at the 2019 Gold Cup, hit 13 goals and registered ten assists in the season just gone.

As we discussed earlier, Callum Wilson is £0.5m more expensive than Jimenez but did register more attacking returns (26 v 23) and had a better points-per-match average than the Wolves forward (5.6 v 4.76).

The next thing we’ll be looking out for is Diogo Jota‘s price and position, with the Portuguese attacker anticipated to be reclassified as an FPL forward based on his run up front from Gameweek 15 onwards.

Was wondering if Grealish might be £5.5m, but £6.0m too much for me. If McGinn or Hourihane are £5.5m, they'll be the better option.

I'm not so sure, everything goes through Grealish, and if there's only 0.5 difference and you want a Villa midfielder, I'd probably try and fit him in. No guarantees Hourihane will be a starter next season either.

I'd be surprised if we can role with a midfield 3 of McGinn, Hourihane and Grealish in the Prem. I think we'll need someone more defensively minded sitting. Whelan was preferred to Hourihane a fair bit last season for those reasons. I'm pretty sure we'll see a new holding midfielder arrive soon, one to keep an eye on!

    I think 6.0 is fair.

He'll do well with key passes and dribbling, wins so many free-kicks too. 6 goals and 7 assists sounds bang average, but people forget he was out injured for 3 months, and had to play under Steve Bruce from August - October.

Since he returned from injury in March, it's 4 goals and 3 assists in 13 matches, which is probably a better representation of what to expect.

Yes - he definitely did much better in the second half of the campaign, you're right. How concerned are you about his injury record though? His last one was a shin problem and, as you say kept him out for a while. Seems a bit fishy considering his shin pad policy to me... what do you think?

He was the most fouled player in the Championship last season, by a long long way. Not sure he'll targeted as much in the Premier League, which should help.

Yeah they definitely targeted him a lot. Makes sense from a tactical perspective. Be interesting to see if that continues in the Premier League, especially with VAR coming.

            2 Wilson - Derby (113)

Possibly yes, but the reason he was targeted in the Championship is because he was so much better than the majority of players. Teams figured out if you stop Grealish, you stop Villa. I doubt Premier League teams will do the same, certainly not as much.

GW3-5 putting me off a bit. Leicester/Everton marked as "blue" on the Season Ticker but two of the in-form teams at the back-end of last season. That may count for naff all in August, of course. Very possible I'll take a punt on King in the first two GWs (hoping for an early-season spike in VAR-related penalties till it settles down).

I wonder if £8m is a popular price point this year. Jiménez to be the same price as Wilson?

£8m is fairly steep for a second striker. Last year £6.5m was ideal.

I think its actually a fair price. My second striker on my GW1 team was 9.5m Firmino, so I think tinkering my team with an 8m second striker should be no issue.

      Disappointing from FPL that.

He will be picked by all the ghost teams that will go on to beat me. I will drop him after he fails to bag a glut against Norwich in GW1. He will then score 300 over the next 37 games. I will refuse to pick him due to stubbornness.

More surprised at 12.5 than I would've been with 13.5 tbh.

Aye, highest scoring player two years on the bounce gets a price decrease, wasn't expecting that.

Surprised, top scorer two years in a row, on penalties if Milner doesn’t consistently play, golden boot two years running, seems a bit cheaper then expected.

The value Mane has now is potentially diminished.

To afford Robbo and TAA I think it'll have to be Mane as the third, but Salah's stats are that much better.

Can only do what we can on budget though.

Spot on, it is funny how fpl can manipulate the masses by revealing the prices bit by bit.
I must admit I find it funny when I hear the phrase 'I am excited by that price'.
Dare I say it, It all seems a bit childish.

Personally I will be looking for value where I think can find it.
But I can only do that when the game is launched.

Scenes indeed. But given Sterling scored fewer points than Salah, I imagine he won’t be priced higher. Could well be the same price, but 12m midfielder seems more likely.

I just looked at Villa's fixtures, 'there is goals/assists in them there hills.'
Grealish looks like the pick to have (I assume he will be the most expensive villa player) - bench gw1 then downgrade later on if required.

I have to separate my feelings over Grealish's 'u-turn' nature when it came to his international future though.

Nice entry price. LFC (a), Chelsea (h) & City (h) in the opening 5 deter me from signing him at the start of the season. But a very nice wait and see option.

Wasn't considering him anyway. Expect Norwich to finish in the bottom three, and Pukki has a terrible record in any top division.

Just annoyed that at £6.5m I doubt even people who were claiming he'd be the first name in their squads will now probably avoid him too.

No from me. Bit too pricey early doors to make it into my team, but priced correctly from FPL's point of view I think.

Will be interesting to see how himself and Norwich fair this year though

No initially, expect a price drop and then to reassess.

Expected price, could lure people being top scorer. Was he on penalties as well?

Not a fan of that price tag, I can't remember another forward coming up from the Championship costing that much, I'm sure gayle was only 5.5 after hitting 25 for NUFC in their last season out of the top flight.

    1. Wrong Captain Choice - Ag i…

That is said every year but a template always emerges.
The secret is to get on the 'template' before it becomes template and know when to move to the 'new template'.

      The three layers are always
High ownership in the game over all - popular players from the big teams.

The 'template' from this site and group think managers who are told that xyz player is a must have/essential - and others who have abc player and will not sell because of 'underlying stats'

The final group of players are those who are ignored by the first two groups and go under the radar for whatever reason.
