Can a price drop boost Harry Kane’s FPL appeal?

Harry Kane (£11.0m) has been handed an eye-catching starting price by the Fantasy Premier League decision-makers.

The Tottenham Hotspur striker is available for £11.0m going into Gameweek 1, the cheapest he has started a season since 2016/17.

Kane’s 2018/19 ended in frustrating fashion for the England centre-forward, with two separate ankle ligament injuries forcing him to miss ten of Spurs’ final 16 Premier League fixtures.

A total of 160 points represented his lowest FPL score in five seasons as a first-team regular in north London, although 23 attacking returns was more than any of his teammates managed and his points-per-match average of 5.71 was the second-best among FPL forwards in 2018/19.

With Kane’s starting price dropping by £1.5m on what it was 12 months ago, does he again become one of the more attractive premium options in the game?

The Members’ article below delves into the data to analyse Kane’s season and ponder his worth.

If the implementation of VAR, I think Mili holds an edge over Zaha.

What do you just think of this

    Heaton/Pope
    Robbo-VVD-Digne-Laporte
    Salah-Maddison-Sterling-Zaha
    King-Giroud

    Button-Diop-Dendoncker-Greenwood

Will keep and eye on Giroud during preseason... Thoughts

    Some pre pre season musings:

3 4 3 is still the way to go. Yes 5 4 1 gets you a flashy looking team but as someone who has veered off the well trodden path the last 2 seasons by first playing 3 5 2 and then moving to 4 5 1 i can tell you that flexibility is king and 3 4 3 offers the best flexibility. My one top 10k finish ( 3 seasons as a non casual) came playing the tried and tested.

Forwards are rubbish value and have been for some time. Kane is priced nicely and i will certainly move that way after his annual slow start. This means i will start with something like vardy , king and jiminez up top.

Steer clear of players who miss chunks of pre season. Afcon and currently injured players have legitmate question marks until proved otherwise via charity shield. No salah, mane (afcon) or robertson (injured- will be fit gw 1 but fit and ready are not the same).

Triple liverpool defence is smart for those planning an early wildcard. Currently thinking trent vvd and allison. If robertson or salah start charity shield then i will move to trent, robertson and salah. Salah on pens is significant. Milner too old to play too much. Trent and robertson are underpriced imo.

Kdb is great value if fit. Sterling is a must. City and liverpool are a cut above so will aim for 4/5 slots between them.

    My current squad is

    Allison 4.0
    Taa digne 4.5 4.5 4.5
    Kdb sterling richarlison redmond 4.5
    Vardy king jiminez

This team is nicely balanced but my captaincy choice is limited to sterling or kdb which is not great as they are from the same team. It is nice to squeeze kane or salah in so you have captains to rotate on difficult fixtures. Hoping to get away with that until first wildcard which will probably be played early which is not the tertible movr some would have you believe.

My plan is to rotate my 4.5 defenders based on form and fixtures

My early wildcard team could look like this:

    Ederson 4.0
    Robertson trent digne 4.5 4.5
    Sterling salah redmond cho 4.5
    King jiminez 5.5

I am obviously hoping that a 5.5 forward player emerges in the first few weeks but if not i would downgrade redmond to a 5.5 mid or even sterling to kdb.

Will probably play it just before a dgw very late as usual

        Or

I might play it straight after the last big dgw if i can get my team set up well enough without it.

This thought crept into my head last season as i smashed my bench boost and got 45 points on my way to a monster haul but tanked the following week. My suspicion is that if i planned my dgw without the wildcard which is possible i could have still done well along with many others but if i had it the following week i could have built a premium team completely different to all my rivals. My gut tells me this might be the way to do something a little different to make up lots of points in the final couple of weeks

I get that he is teasing me for planning to far ahead and fair enough my actual team will probably look nothing like this gw 1 let alone first or second wildcard but there might be some nuggets in there for someone. Started off 2k last season so my best stuff is usually this time of year. Dont ask where i finished though?

Good advice I think. I try to begin with a squad of certain (!?) starters that have reasonable fixtures and form at the back end of last season and pre season. Saves having to burn transfers until I wildcard about gw6/7

Agree with a lot of this, just wait until a player like KDB, Erikksen, Silva, Vardy, Kane, Aubameyang, Richarlison starts banging in a few goals/assists and watch everybody start asking who to downgrade out of TAA, Robertson, Laporte, Ederson, Digne to so they can afford a better mid/forward line.

The defenders offer fantastic value but you need to be able to bring in midfielders/strikers when they hit form, having 4/5 premium defenders really limits that

Yes. The last time i played 343 i moved fairly easily onto the form players at the right time. Finished 3k

The last two seasons i have felt frustrated as i knew who to get but the way i structured my team prevented me from making the moves i wanted when i wanted

haha yeah same, last season I had Mendy, Robertson, Van Dijk, Coleman in my back line and even though they were doing well for me (not Coleman) I missed out on players like Wilson and Fraser when they hit form and it really cost me

I will if robertson and salah play charity shield. I wont if they dont. I agree the second team is better thats why i am advocating early wildcard

    Ryan
VVD / TAA / Dunk (Bednarek)
    Salah / Siggy / Zaha / Maddie / Fraser
    Agüero / King

Pros: Midfield as strong as it gets, good attack
Cons: Dunk and Bednarek rotation, no bench other than one of them.

    Too risky?

29 year old who didn't do much in Spain or France before going to Porto. Imagine he will be very much a fringe player.

Different player now. Not exactly sure why they need a left winger though when they always play 352

That’s what them boys on the bench are for. Will only play when their fixtures are good. Hoping Ritchie gets a spot on the wing this season under new manager otherwise he can be a 5.5 like stones/Maguire whoever is city’s starting CB

Never thought I’d see Stearman in FPL again, seems a lifetime ago when he was everyone’s favourite 4.0m def 🙂

Why would you keep 1.5 ITB if your bench is garbage

Old FPL favourite Craig Dawson set to join Watford that could be a great combo. Would be all over him at 4.5

Nothing game really. They will still qualify 2nd.

Ederson & Dunk instead of Ryan & Laporte saves you 0.5m

Also Maddison & Aguero instead of Sterling & Vardy saves you a further 2m

    Just a thought...
