Can a price drop boost Harry Kane’s FPL appeal?

Harry Kane (£11.0m) has been handed an eye-catching starting price by the Fantasy Premier League decision-makers.

The Tottenham Hotspur striker is available for £11.0m going into Gameweek 1, the cheapest he has started a season since 2016/17.

Kane’s 2018/19 ended in frustrating fashion for the England centre-forward, with two separate ankle ligament injuries forcing him to miss ten of Spurs’ final 16 Premier League fixtures.

A total of 160 points represented his lowest FPL score in five seasons as a first-team regular in north London, although 23 attacking returns was more than any of his teammates managed and his points-per-match average of 5.71 was the second-best among FPL forwards in 2018/19.

With Kane’s starting price dropping by £1.5m on what it was 12 months ago, does he again become one of the more attractive premium options in the game?

The Members’ article below delves into the data to analyse Kane’s season and ponder his worth.

The theory - All five of your defenders keep a clean sheet, two score, the others get an assist and they all get bonus 🙂

The reality - They all concede, two of them twice, the other three get booked, no attack points, no bonus, WC activated 🙁

Remember when 'she' self-destructed her team after captain Berbatov (whom she claimed to be her fiancé) scored a hat-trick and it found itself in the top thousand?

Her character, grav and team were probably invented as someone's second team for a bit of fun and not really intending to win anything.

Yes, that was how her team self-destructed.
Claimed she was bored, but I think it was really because she didn't want the team to finish too high.

I could either stick with 3-4-3 Or drop a third striker and run with 4-4-2.

I can't stop Salah/Sterling. I think Siggy and fixtures is a must especially if Everton can keep up their form from late last season.

Zaha the one that I may be able to downgrade to upgrade DCL.

Perez is intriguing. Rafa leaving is an issue, but being reclassified with a good scoring record, and playing up top makes him tempting

I'm thinking about him possibly to rotate with Chris Woods up front for a few weeks. It's a bit meh but I just care about ticking over with points. And no, I'm not worried about leaving 6.5m on the bench in the first few weeks. Once value form players emerge then I'm on it...

      1. HollywoodXI
        • 9 Years

Yep. I’ve looked at fixtures when selecting this group of players. So for example, Redmond and Long are away to Burnley GW1 and I’m backing Burnley to be tighter this year with no Europa distraction (hence the Heaton pick) so I’ll bench both. I’ve mapped out the first 6 GW’s and the fixtures fall well for this type of rotation (assuming teams play in line with the odds!)

Tis. That's the trade off for the back five... thing is I'm not sure the proper heavy hitters up front are worth the massive extra investment, and I'm also not sure Wilson and Jimenez are much better bets than their strike partners. Vardy is tempting but will need quite a bit of sacrifice elsewhere.

I don’t trust any of the other 4.5 or 5.0 midfielders to start every match so Kante is a reluctant inclusion. I think AWB can hopefully succeed in spite of the players around him but it is a gamble.

Like this team - surprised it's affordable. Triple Pool defence is bold but could easily reap massive rewards.

You are also sure to miss out on some hauls from midfield - Sterling/Salah are better set for them than anyone in FPL I'd say.

The one mil or so that I’d save if I downgrade Firmino can’t really be used else where. There’s no one I fancy in the price bracket just above Moutinho. I would definitely like to replace Leno though. I like to have starters on my bench too so my first team will look weaker for that reason. I could free up 2 mil if I just opted for non starters.

Does this team look OK? Any feedback?

    Ryan
    TAA, VVD, Walker, Coleman
    Sterling, Siggy, Salah, Fraser, Zaha
    King

    Thank you!

        Cheers.

        No mate, bench is weak.

        Button, Kelly, 4.5, 4.5

Hopefully the above 11 will consistently start over the first GWs

Yeah it looks ok but I went Aguero to balance it better.

Thank you mate. Do you have a similar team?

I think Sterling will outscore Kun in the first GWs, but in fact the latter allows a more balanced team

          My team is:
          Ryan, Button
VVD, TAA, Zinc, Diop, 4.0 don't know yet
          Siggy, Zaha, Salah, Bilva, Jorginho
          Aguero, King, 4.5
With Aguero, I can got to Kane or Auba.
          Sure, Sterling might outscore Aguero.

At 6m he needs to get clean sheets. A couple blanks and people will be wondering why they spent 6.0 on an Everton defender when someone like Zinchenko or Trippier costs 5.5

      Challenging bracket I would say.

Perez, Brooks and maybe Gross. Gross for the first 3 GWs may pay out

@ 7M, I consider both Zaha and Maddison solid picks tbh!

Defo Redmond for me, he was sensational under Hasenhüttl and if he keeps up his form he'll get even more assists if they can find a regular goalscorer.

Big fan of Brooks but think 6.5m a little steep especially if Fraser or Wilson leave. Prefer McGinn at 5.5m to Grealish. Too difficult to know about Perez until new manager.

Oh and I know nothing about him but looking at how some other wingers have fared under Potter I'd be interested in Trossard at 6m

    TAA - Robbo - Digne - Laporte
    Salah - Sterling - Siggy - Zaha
    King - DCL

    Button - Dendoncker - Kelly - Janssen

I expect Leroy Fer will be announced for Villa tomorrow. He was close to joining in January but the deal fell though. But he'll be officially released by Swansea tomorrow when his contract expires.

Would be a decent signing. Presumably a Hourihane replacement.

      TAA and Robbo.

I personally don't trust CBs to consistently score goals. Many times we've seen one score 4-5 goals one season, then 1-2 the next. I'd rather the two wingers, Trent and Robbo, over VVD. They consistently create a ton chances at Liverpool.

Great reasoning and a fair point. I do think VVD has more goals in him than he’s showed so far, but I also remember owning Breda Hangeland the season after he scored 5 or 6 goals and watching him get barely any the next season.
