Is it worth paying extra to have Digne over Coleman?

The release of Fantasy Premier League’s price list for 2019/20 could see Seamus Coleman (£5.5m) become the go-to Everton defender over the summer.

Lucas Digne (£6.0m) had originally been the target for the Toffees’ appealing early-season fixtures, but many were a little surprised that he received such a hefty price-tag.

In this latest Members article, we weigh up the two Everton full-backs against each other to see which can provide the best value from Gameweek 1 of the new campaign.

As this uses data from our Members area, you will have to sign up in order to view it.

What effect do the new prices have?

If Sanchez is only 7m and looking likely to start, surely worth a punt?

Sanchez is about as much use as tits on a bull these days. You’d be better spending that £7m on a premium defender who’ll return 190-210 points a season rather than gamble on Sanchez who’ll probably get 0-8 points in the first month before you have to waste a transfer getting rid of him

Coleman isn't as good as he was, not even playing amazing for Ireland plus Digne takes set pieces. Would keep vardy look at his goal amount last year which went unnoticed by many.

Maddison trumps Vardy imho. I genuinely think this is his year. He's cheaper, he'll get assists as well as the odd goal, he'll score a few direct FK's, he's on corners. As for Digne vs Coleman, I can't help you there. I'm in the same boat.

I’d turn Bilva into Fraser and a keeper. Defence definitely wasn’t Swansea’s strong point last season and you be relying on save points massively.

Good chance I’d say Fraser will fetch up at Arsenal as he’s within budget and then he becomes really attractive.

Had Bilva last season - very frustrating. Could do nicely I guess but record so far says no.

Thank you for your feedback and suggestions.

I think Bernardo will get very decent gametime and, hopefully, have an attacking role. I can see the assist potential and goal threat too, so @ 8 he seems fine imho.

Fraser, however, is obviously under consideration! Really good asset

      Nice

Salah’s fitness is a bit concerning, but there were times last year where he played twice a week for several weeks and Klop didn’t even drop him for some easy home games. I guess he starts week 1, maybe gets subbed if they’re up by 2 or 3.

I’m hoping KDB is back to 17/18 form. Pretty much 200 points right there.

I broke my team twice last season to get KdB in. He’s so tempting.

I can easily see myself trading Sterling in early doors if KdB fires to get a Vardy say.

I wanted sterling but it meant breaking up my strong defense which I’m not prepared to do. KDBs cheaper price hopefully means they’re of similar value.

Long's game time at the Saints could be very unpredictable with a healthy Ings so I'd remove him to a 4.5 and put more value into your GK, Potters supposedly more attacking than Hughton so having Ryan as your only playing GK could be risky.

    RMT please peeps...

    Currently dabbling with:

    Ryan (Fab)

Shaw / Robertson / TAA (Diop) (Dunk)

    Salah* / Sterling / Jorginho / Noble / Mili

    Vardy / King (Wickham)

Have I missed out many obvious penalty takers I can get in?
I genuinely think this year will just be won by penalty takers, it's gonna be mental.

Not convinced penalty takers are worth going all in for. Even if there is an uptick in pens I don't see Noble working out for example.

If you're going for it, you gotta have Ritchie and Siggy surely?

But Siggy wasn’t much better at them than Pogba.

King Mili and Kane would be the ones I’d consider.

Mili never misses and has Zaha
Kane is just as good and wins a few himself of course
King could narrow the value gap with Wilson

Not sure I can afford Kane, or justify the losses to get him in.
When did he last have a good run?

          It's a good shout but I think a considerable cost/risk...

Can't go with Ritchie (My Toon are awful) but Siggy is one I should try and fit in.

I'm a Toon fan... and I wouldn't currently bring in a single Toon player.
Ritchie is on pens but he essentially plays left back for a team that will be even worse this year.

Switch Sterling / Wickham to Aguero / Dendoncker and you’ll gain another penalty taker and and extra starter for your bench

        I like this...
Sterling is pretty awesome, but you are right that Aguero on pens can't be sniffed at.

    Coleman VVD Robbo Mendy (Kelly)
    Richarlison Sterling Mane Fraser (Kante)

Unsure on Mendy atm and my bench.

B.Silva could be being overlooked. His price has hardly shot up that much, and I think he's definitely nailed on. Could be a really decent shout to start the season.

for a nailed on City attacker, he doesn't get enough returns for my liking. For 8M or less, I rather get someone like Siggy, Zaha or Fraser

He’s the 3rd most selected midfielder with over 30% ownership. How did you come to the conclusion he’s getting overlooked .

Come on then, folks, what's the season goal?

  23. pingissimus

Any love for Spurs if you’re going big at the back?

Generally I’d have Spurs as the top 6 team most likely to improve defensive returns and get a significant number of cs. I’m hoping the return home may make them cs monsters again - they’ve done it before under Poch

Lloris for Ederson wins 0.5 elsewhere and they had identical ppm last time

Trippier over Laporte is a mill. The Laporte returns in 35 on felt a bit freaky to me - I hit them but felt lucky looking at his season returns. If Aurier is out I’m definitely interested.

If trippier is sold and they don’t buy a replacement I’ll be getting aurier.

Lloris isn’t a bad shout but think there might be better options.

Aurier just got injured - long term one I think.

They still got KWP there, though. Can't see Tripp being safe enough for TOT coverage. Central defenders only ones nailed, I reckon.

Hadn’t heard about that. Might consider Trippier then. Although as Ibe wisdom says they do also have kwp but I’d still expect Trippier to play most matches. If trippier is sold then kwp looks good

KWP could be on way to Palace and would be a good option then.

Foyth will play plenty at RB this season. Starting there for Argentina currently. Poch used him there last year ahead of KWP. Suspended for the start but could be first choice RB by mid season.

Seriously don't understand all this hype over B.Silva... 154 points for 8m. Robertson was 213 points and is 7m. People get way to caught up in media attention as opposed to anything that actually matters; he doesn't get enough attacking returns for this game.

My thoughts exactly. Great player but think there’s better options, especially at his price. Think another reason so many people are getting him is he’s a fairly nailed city player.

Exactly, which again is a bad decision people always make. Just because someone plays for a great team doesn't mean they'll be the one getting any of the points.

He's the classic 'assist to the assister'. Great player, poor FPL asset.

What are your thoughts on my 1st draft:

    Fabianski
    TAA, Boly, Digne
    Mane, Sterling, Sigurdsson, McArthur, Kante
    King, Vardy

Bench: Ryan, Aarons (Norwich), Pukki, Kelly

    Thanks for the article!

Why did you choose to determine value by points / price rather than PPG / price? IMO the latter is a better metric as it's immune if the player doesn't feature as it was the case here with Coleman.
