Is Wan-Bissaka worth £5.5m in FPL after United move?

Aaron Wan-Bissaka‘s (£5.5m) price increase in Fantasy Premier League is as eye-catching as the £50m move to Manchester United that followed in late June.

In 2018/19, Wan-Bissaka was the much-heralded budget defensive gem, starting 35 of Crystal Palace’s 38 matches and returning 120 FPL points over the course of the campaign.

Wan-Bissaka – who was priced at £4.0m in Gameweek 1 of last season – was on the pitch for all 12 of the Eagles’ clean sheets, while he racked up 18 bonus points to compensate for a lack of attacking returns (no goals, three assists).

A year is a long time in FPL.

Championed for his value for money (26.1 points per million spent) last season, there has been something of a backlash against his price rise this summer.

Still, that hasn’t stopped over one in three FPL managers from drafting Wan-Bissaka into their initial squads.

Virgil van Dijk (£6.5m) and Andrew Robertson (£7.0m) are the only two defenders who are proving more popular in FPL at the time of writing.

As we have said before, that 34.1% ownership can perhaps be explained by a number of factors – a nostalgia for his returns in 2018/19, a move to a ‘big six’ club and a higher rate of so-called casuals playing the game at this stage of the year.

We shouldn’t just ignore those FPL managers who have acquired him, though, as there is much to admire about Wan-Bissaka’s game.

Whether there is enough to warrant a price rise to £5.5m is something we’ll be exploring in the Members’ article below.

Won't be so sure about that. He is small but pep hasn't got anything against small backs. Of course he might need a while to adjust to the premier league, but he most defintely is a better player defensively than zinchenko. Fun fact, he played for PSV as well 2 years ago. Angelino's crossing probably was the best in the Eredivisie so he can bring something offensively as well. Also he was really consistent, after 3 somewhat shaky games he always was one of the best on the field

I think Leicester, Everton or Wolves could finish above Manchester United.

Much will depend on whether they can keep Maguire and Maddison over summer, but I think if they can then the Foxes could go well under Rodgers.

I thought Everton improved a lot in the second half of last season, but they perhaps still lack something up top.

Everton are certainly missing a top goalscorer still for me to be able to break into the top 6 and Wolves i think will actually disappoint this season. Expectations are high for them after what they done last season and with them in the EL, like Burnely last year, I think it will have a huge negative impact for them.

Leicester do have some real quality spread right through out the team, especially if they sign Tielemans. Keeping Maguire is going to be really important for them though as they are pretty leaky at the back as it is. Could push Utd/Arsenal close alright!

    Hard to argue with picking a team based on % ownership at present. Generally gives: Ryan, VVD, Robbo, AWB, Digne, Salah, Zaha, Bilva, Sterling, Jimi, Wilson. Beautiful;

is Ryan there for saves I’d clean sheets? Or neither?

The above article damned the AWB selection - it needn’t have been so polite?

Zaha’s record last season was great - with Bat. Without him there was little between him and Townsend.

Bilva - based on playing for City and having 8 mill. Nothing much there otherwise except potential.

Jim - maybe Wolves will be the first pl team to shake the curse of EL?

Funny enough Ryan and Bilva backfired for me last season though I suspect better this season for the former, post Hughton. Bilva is brilliant, though maybe a placeholder for a Chelsea asset or even Gross. Jimi and Zaha are class and underpriced. Zaha at Arsenal should be beastly.

Zaha at Arsenal with Auba out to fund it yes.

But very unlikely they’ll cough up 80 mill and Palace won’t compromise. It reeks of a fan pleasing or exercise to me.

I love Zaha in real life but just don’t see it in fantasy unless Pskace bring in a top class striker

I’m watching Chelsea closely. Heard CHO may be fit early - that’s a punt I like.

    Firmino or Kane?

The extra 1.5m could be useful, but Kane probably has 10 more goals per season in him.
However ... Kane is a notoriously slow starter, if Eriksen goes his supply line is reduced, and Liverpool may well come flying out of the blocks looking to pick up where they left off last season

    I think I've convinced myself

Interesting, many people last year were seriously contemplating going Salah-less whereas this yerr everyone has him despite scoring a fair amount less points.

Is it because he's 0.5 less?

The other option was mane and his price has gone up.

Not everyone has him. Don't worry, as the deadline rushes up more people will hop off the bandwagon, especially if Egypt push deep into AFCON. There will also be secondary concerns about the attack as a whole as Firmino and Mané will also have had little rest.

The point about all of them being absent from preseason is the killer for me

His shoulder is well mended from the Ramos assault, back to 300 points.

In a sense I think he’s still 13.0 - the makeweights have all risen by 0.5 - the outlay is the same

Relative value is higher this year because of price changes.

The only players who have the potential to challenge him points wise, but are much cheaper are KDB, Firmino, Son and Sanchez. All three have question marks against them though.

KDB re injuries. Firmino re role in team and playing third fiddle to Salah and Mane. Son banned for early games. Sanchez re recent form and game time.
