FPL position change and Leicester move boost Perez’s appeal

Ayoze Perez has completed a £30m move to Leicester City, leaving Newcastle United after five years in the north-east.

Perez was one of a handful of Fantasy Premier League assets who saw his position change upon the game’s relaunch this summer.

An FPL forward in his first four seasons in the top flight, Perez was reclassified as a midfielder in June after playing more than half of his games in 2018/19 in more of a supporting role behind Salomon Rondon.

Had his Fantasy position been altered 12 months earlier, the extra points he would have accumulated for goals/clean sheets would have put him in the top ten highest-scoring FPL midfielders of 2018/19.

Available for £6.5m this season, Perez would have been an intriguing prospect even if had stayed on Tyneside – but a move to a Leicester side that has developed an attacking swagger under new boss Brendan Rodgers will provoke even more interest in the Fantasy community.

Members can read on for our study of Perez’s Fantasy credentials.

Thoughts appreciated. This is what I’ve currently got.

    Ryan
    Robertson, VVD, Digne, Coleman
    Salah, Sterling, Sigurdsson, Perez
    Wilson, King

Not sure on the double Everton defence. Doing Coleman to a 5m allows me to make VVD->TAA or Perez->Zaha/other.

I had Maitland Niles in as a 5m option.

Is Perez at all similar to Raheem Sterling in terms of playing style?

Trying to determine if there might be any parallels between Brendan's plans for Perez and Leicester and the way Liverpool played the year they finished 2nd.

Sterling played in the 10 during his best spell for Liverpool. It was a 4-4-2 diamond with SAS up top.

If Rodgers is trying to replicate that, then it'll be Maddison in the 10 with Perez-Vardy up top. They have the fullbacks to play that formation so it could be a shout.

Not at all. Iirc it comes down to whether Deulofeu plays 90 mins each week as has good pp90 but was a bit in and out of the team / often subbed. Perhaps a Watford fan could comment on how they see that playing out this season?

Thoughts on the Pros and Cons of this 4-4-2 team?

    Ryan

Trent - Van Dijk - Mendy - Digne

    Salah (C) - KDB - Sterling (V) - Perez

    King - Calvert Lewin

Bench: Button - Dendoncker - Kelly - Nketiah

    Pros:

Two clear captains in Salah and Sterling.
Everton cover for their kind fixtures
    Double Liverpool defence.
Perez playing out of position at a more attacking club.
KDB can easily have a 200+ pointer season without injury.
Dominic Calvert-lewin should be first choice and may have a break through season.

    Cons:

    No premium striker.
    Salah may miss opening fixtures.
    Lack of rotating keepers.
Need to make multiple transfers to bring in a premium striker.
    Mendy is not nailed.
    Trent may be rotated.

    Ryan

Trent - Van Dijk - Mendy - Digne

    Salah (C) - KDB - Sterling (V) - Perez

    King - Calvert Lewin

Bench: Button - Dendoncker - Kelly - Nketiah

      Two more cons imo

      DCL
      Ryan

Ryan to the nailed Burnley option looks best to me. More saves and cs.

DCL could come good I guess but his returns are poor right now. That inaccuracy also downgraded Digne slightly as he keeps on producing chances that aren’t put away. As it stands on your system I’d get Coleman over Digne and your choice of 6.5 up top.

Yeah I agree with you. I think maybe Heaton is a better option.

To your suggestion Digne to Coleman would allow me to pick Jota or Dele from watford or even Perez to Zaha. Thanks food for thought

Underlying stats have Siggy and Bernardo Silva almost neck and neck during the final 10 GW’s of last season.

Siggy could be the main beneficiary of kind opening fixtures for Everton while Bernardo looks to be favoured by Pep playing for one of the best teams in the league.

Which one would you choose and why?

Jags is unlikely to be a regular feature for Sheffield United I assume? More of an addition of experience?

Any Blades fans who could confirm? I can't imagine he's got the legs, but he was always good for BPS and the odd goal

Norwood seems a good shout, I see he's on corners and free kicks. Kante might be really good depending on how Lampard decides to use him. thanks

Priced at 5.5 El Ghazi & McGinn will both carry good assist potential

McArthur isn’t a bad shout here. Some chance he won’t be nailed as Palace have options in central mid - but nowhere else! He returned nicely last time out.

Other than that I’d go Moutinho - he must have been very close to 6.0 - lots of assists, set pieces. Also worth considering recently promoted sides tend to improve defensively and thatd give him more cs bonuses.

      On bench!

Haven’t seen many teams with up to a mill on the bench. Who are you starting?

You could be ahead of the pack here. I’m seeing a lot of forced transfers in week 2.

        This is my team rn

        Ederson
        TAA - VVD - Digne - Coleman - Laporte
        Perez - Salah - Sterling
        King - Pukki

        Subs: Button Kante - Norwood - 4.5

          Well done - very nice

Half tempted by a Pukki punt myself. Bit dubious about Laporte and VVD as a combo. Had them both early last season for expensive cs. I’m limiting myself to one CB who’s likely to return unevenly - I’m paying for more predictable wing back returns

    Thoughts

    Ederson
    Digne Coleman TAA Robertson
    Sigurdsson Fraser Iwobi Doucoure
    Firmino Aubameyang

    Grealish,Wesley,Diop.

I applaud you for being different.
Biggest issue is money on the bench, Grealish and Welsey are far too expensive to be bench players, and a lack of a City player given how kindly KdB and B.Silva are priced are madness, especially as you don't have Salah/Mane either.

Firmino might be given extended holiday. Keep an eye

      Iwobi is a no no.

Wesley as bench player is expensive.

Not tempted by Perez over Maddison? That gives 0.5 for an easy upgrade at the back.

If Perez plays along side Vardy, then I'll definitely go for him.

ATM that spot can be anyone's.

        Maddy,siggy, Richarlison,Perez all tempting.

ok I'm happy with this especially since I got two subs with good potential in case pep doesn't play sterling for a GW

    Ederson
    TAA - VVD - Digne - Coleman - Laporte
    Perez - Salah - Sterling
    King - Pukki

    Subs: Button Kante - Norwood - 4.5

Yeah he seems the best player of the championship side, I can see him doing better than did Mitrovic last season hopefully.

    TAA, Robbo, Colemann, Digne, Kelly
    BSilva, Siggy, Fraser, Zaha, Gundugan
    Wilson, Vardy, Jimi

Anyone know how much of a drop off Championship strikers tend to have in scoring returns when moving up to the premier league?

I looked into this and the results weren't great. I do not remember the exact data.

Not great in what way? That there was a big drop off, or there was no consistency in the data

Big drop off. Eg Vydra won the golden boot for 17/18 and only had one goal last season. I think Murray had the best success when he was promoted back in the day with 13 goals.
