How does Tielemans affect and compare to Leicester’s other FPL assets?

Leicester City’s permanent capture of Youri Tielemans (£6.5m) adds to the Foxes’ attractive options in Fantasy Premier League next season.

The Belgian midfielder, signed for a reported £40m from Monaco, impressed in a brief loan spell towards the end of 2018/19 and was a successful differential pick for those FPL bosses who backed him.

The central midfielder scored three goals and registered a further five assists in just 13 starts, averaging 4.8 FPL points per game – more than any of Leicester’s other Fantasy assets apart from Jamie Vardy (£9.0m).

You can read more about Tielemans’ history in our Scout Report.

The Foxes’ opening eight fixtures are a mixed bag, with Brendan Rodgers’ side facing five of last season’s top seven in the first two months of the campaign.

There are also matches against Sheffield United, Bournemouth and Newcastle United in that time, however.

For those wishing to back a Leicester asset from the off, there is a bit of a selection headache.

Ayoze Perez‘s (£6.5m) case for inclusion was heard in a Members’ article last week but in Tielemans and James Maddison (£7.0m) we also have two FPL midfielders who provided us with decent value for money in 2018/19.

In Vardy, we also have a premium forward who scored more goals than any other Premier League player in the final ten Gameweeks of last season.

This latest article will scrutinise the numbers behind Tielemans’ appearances for Leicester so far.

    Thoughts?

    Ryan (Button)
    TAA Robertson Digne Ake (Dunk)
    Salah KDB Siggy Fraser (Dendoncker)
    Vardy King (Greenwood)

Ake + Dunk to a 5.5 + 4.0 perhaps but I like those Bournemouth fixtures and Dunk can come in for GW3 against MCI

Keep an eye on Adam Smith for Ake in preseason. Could save you $0.5m. Ryan is a tough pill to swallow, especially with a double BHA defense.

Suggestion: Ake to 4.5 (elmohamedy?) and Dendonker to Noble (5.0) who is on pens.

Why Elmohamady? Is he the best option at 4.5? Many assists?

        Not for us to decide.

13 goals last season and on PK's with good opening fixtures. Why not. Alternative forward options for BHA are limited.

Don't think he was completely nailed last season. Might drop off in appearances even more given he'll soon be 36. If Brighton have ambitions to progress they should be looking for better

You’ve got 5 awful players in your team who you’ll struggle to upgrade.

I suggest downgrading Bernardo to say Tielemans/Perez and upgrading Jorginho to a 6.5 or wickham to Ings

I actually don’t think he’ll play all the time, mate. I can see Lamps playing Kante CDM and Barkley and RLC either side.

Saying that, he did play 4-2-3-1 tonight, so maybe Jorg and Kante as two CDM with Barkley or RLC (when fit) in the hole. Also has Kovacic, Bakayoko and Mount. Plenty of options and I reckon plenty of rotation in the first few gameweeks until he discovers which system and players he trusts.

Diop and Smith are not awful imo, they are enablers. You can't pick a team with 11 players that you expect to get points every week. For the first 10 or so weeks I'm happy to play one of them. Yes, it all falls down if Jorginho isn't an option. I'm hoping for an early penalty so that his price goes up before my wildcard. I'm willing to gamble on that slot though to afford the others. As I see it I have 6 slots I can expect points from (Liverpool, Kane, Vardy, Laporte), 2 slots that will tick along nicely (Fraser, B Silva) and 3 weak links, where I am hoping for the odd cleansheet from Brighton, Bournemouth and West Ham in some relatively decent fixtures, and maybe a penalty, an assist and a few clean sheet points from Jorginho in the first 8-10 games.

I wouldn't want to start two of A Smith, Diop, Jorginho and dendo every week

      1. LSK
        • 5 Years

My team relies on Jorginho being an option admittedly. I have no problem playing one of Diop or A Smith for any of the first 10 weeks, by which point I would have wildcarded anyway.

I fancy Barkley to do well this season but I’d not have him from the start mainly because tough opening game against United (although he scored as a sub in last years fuxture) but also we don’t know if Lampard will play Barkley and if he does, how much freedom he’ll get. Best to wait and see.

What's everyone's thoughts on De Bruyne?

If he gets good minutes in pre-season with a couple returns then surely £9.5m for a player of his quality is an absolute bargain.

Wait and see how preseason goes I think. This time last year he was widely regarded as indespensable to City. But his injured showed everyone that City can survive without him. He’ll be back for sure because cream always rises to the top. But I’d it worth the risk when there are so many great options for less like Zaha, Siggy, Tielemans who will all be guaranteed starters

The conclusion I've reached (at least for now) is to 'wait and see' on KdB and instead go safer with Sterling (with sacrifices elsewhere).

Part of the reasoning being I'd rather downgrade say a Sterling to pick him up as a bargain early ish on than scramble around to try and upgrade to a firing on all cylinders Sterling.

Nice midfield, although I prefer Zaha to Bsilva.

Defence is solid but I wouldn’t double up on Everton defence. Personally I think Coleman’s is fine and Digne not worth the extra 0.5m.

The bench won’t provide you any backup should you need it.

At this stage everything is pure speculation. We’ll have to wait and see how Brendan plans to use him. Hopefully preseason will shed some light.

I’d go with Tielemans early doors as it’s proven he’ll play in Rodgers system. Then, it’s a simple switch should Perez gel and look like he’s a guaranteed starter.

Completely random question (you can tell it's preseason), but is there any reason why PL clubs aren't generally allowed to play music when their home team scores a goal, similar to what they do for Bayern Munich?

For the home team? Probably. But if that's the case, why play music at all? At Man Utd's home games they play the Rocky theme for the player entrance which adds to the atmosphere (I think), so is having this for goals scored too much?

You can get all three Liverpool defenders for 20.5m. Two hit 200+, one would have with more minutes. The only thing stopping me from doing it right now is you don't have the Salah(C) option.

And that’s the flaw with the good value, a captain option halves the cost

You could say why not captain the defender but captain options are based on favourable fixtures and the likelihood of hauls which don’t correlate to defenders to the same degree

It was arguably injuries that ruined Walcott's career, which meant he ended up starting over 30 games a season just twice in 11 seasons.

I think you're being harsh though. He was involved in 114 goals in 271 games for Arsenal. He had a similar goals/assists per 90 rate to Hazard, and didn't have penalty kicks. The guy was a FPL must have in his day.

Seen lots of interest in Pope and I am ultimately looking to get whoever claims the Burnley goalkeeper slot, but I dunno if I can do it with those first 4 fixtures. Only one decent out of 4 really. Save points I guess, but the smart play may be to go elsewhere and then get the (by then established) Burnley keeper in on first wildcard.

Might go with this lot, what do you think?

    Ryan,

    Aarons, Digne, Robbo,

    Perez, Salah, Grealish, McNeil,

    Jim, Kane, Kun,

Subs, Button, Dendoncker, Kelly, 4.0m def,

3 premiums is bad value, you can only captain one at a time and salah/kun rotate perfectly. kane an unnecessary luxury

True about Kane, think he’ll do well v Villa but you’re right about 3 premium players.

even kane to vardy means you can get one of the trendy 7m mids, or if you want spurs coverage you're 0.5 away from moura

Wouldn't go with Aarons to begin with and the midfield is a bit weak.

I'd say at least 9 of them are in the template...

Pretty happy with this unless anyone can convince me otherwise!

    Ryan (4.0)
    Digne, VVD, Laporte (4.0, 4.0)
    Milli, Salah, Siggy, Perez, Sterling
    King, Jiminez (4.5)

    Thoughts?

No Rob, No TAA... Besides that it looks good. Would avoid Jimenez because of Europa League + bad fixtures

He is in my team for now. My least favourite pick but the better out of a bad bunch in the 6.0 price bracket

Who u would take? Who will have more points?

    A) Vardy (mixed bag of fixtures, but have Tielemans back)
    B) Wilson (favourable fixtures)

I'm the son of Bill Gates. Money aside. Hehe.
