Sign up for latest FFScout Charity Cup on July 28

The third instalment of the Fantasy Football Scout Charity Cup is now less than three weeks away and already around 40 players have signed up to play. But we want more of you!

Following the success of the first two competitions in February and November 2018, which featured around 80 players and raised over £2,000 for the Melanoma Research Foundation and for Campaign Against Living Miserably, this time we’ll be raising money for the Stroke Association.

Most of you will know that Joe, a much-loved member of FFS and the wider Fantasy Football community, recently suffered a bleed on his brain. Thankfully, after a fairly hellish month, he is gradually returning to normal.

The Charity Cup will be held in the morning of Sunday 28 July 2019 at Whittington Park Astro Pitch in London linked heremeeting at 9:15 am to finalise teams etc.

The full address is Holloway Road, Islington, London N19 4RS. The closest Tube station is Archway on the Northern Line (8min walk) and the closest London Overground station is Upper Holloway (2min walk).

As always, the precise format (including squad sizes) will depend on numbers but everyone will get decent game-time in a 7 or 8 aside format.

This is real-life football (not an FPL online cup!) with players of all ages, fitness and abilities very welcome.

As with previous tournaments, we’ll be organising players into squads, so you don’t need to round up a team yourself, although feel free to invite guest players to boost the numbers.

If you would like to take part please email peter.kouwenberg76@gmail.com with your contact details and you will be added to the WhatsApp group for further information (unless you state that you would rather receive information by separate email only).

Even if you are not able to play, please donate to the Stroke Association at the Just Giving page which is linked here.

The team is set up for him like it was for Abraham last season with plenty crosses into the box and they've signed Targett who excels in that department. We shall see.

It shouldn't take him long to settle into the system, he looks to have a similar profile to Abraham, and 10 goals is about what I'd expect. Jimenez scored 13, and I'd be delighted if he made that kind of impact.

It's not about the system, he looks like he has excellent interplay. But his goalscoring record in the Belgian League is not inspiring at all.

Heaton will probably not play for Burnley and Villa are way short of asking price.
Mendy is up against it with alternatives. If I though he was 1st choice I would get him too.
WanB must improve United defense. 5.5 from 4 is a big hike when 2 thirds of his 120 points came in the first hal of last season.
Kante will go back to his old roll of the best defensive mid in the world.
Tielemans although in my draft atm could flatter to deceive in a more defensive position.
Ings in my side. Injuries a concern.
Delboy you never know what you might get.

Mendy is too risky week 1. Probably TAA VVD Digne Coleman.
With Kante I wouls save that little cash or use some Mendy money to upgrade.
WanB is a strange one. Possible to keep him but 5.5's there are some nice choices.

Like previous poster said Mendy is a rotation risk, if fit and selected during majority of pre season could be worth a punt he's a beast and would outscore robbo imo if stayed fit and played the full season

    Anybody really thought about Laporte?
His points tally was good but improved by the half dozen appearances at left back.
He won't be there again any time soon.
Expect a 20 point drop in output this year.

yeah, difficult to find a good way into City defense that provides value. Both Ederson and Laporte don't score lots of bonus points compared to rivals.
I feel both players are overpriced by 0.5m

Could decide to go without City defense, but that opening run of fixtures is very nice on the other hand

He’s decent in the air but City take a lot of short corners. Hopefully with KDB back he will whip some more set pieces into the box and Laporte’s attacking output could improve. I’m confident in him, but by no means think he’s a must.

The thing about 4.5 defenders is we ve all seen most of them the last few seasons and know they have low ceilings and will struggle to break the 100 barrier ie Diop, Dunk, Smith, lascelles etc Are very uninspiring. If anyone is going for a 4.5 risk it on the new boys.. I've got my eye on O'Connell and Targett personally. Sheffield were a wonder to watch with their attacking cbs last season and I can see them confusing a lot of epl teams in the opening games with oconnell being the main beneficiary especially for their home games . He is an unbelievable goal threat.. Was fully expecting him to be 5.0. Targett plays for arguably the better side.. Villa may not be the next wolves but if any of the promoted sides has the potential to comfortably slot into the epl it's them.. It also helps that he is very attacking too. Can see one of the two of them launching a bandwagon after a CS/attacking return in the first few

I like Bernardo from Brighton. Excellent attacking fullback, if Potter can return Brighton's defensive form and add an offensive dimension to their game as well, I think he will be perfectly respectable. However that's two fairly big ifs, so he's a bench player at most for me so far.

Tbh apart from Ryan, Duffy, Dunk, Murray, Knockeart and Gross I've never ever even noticed the rest of their team lol. The only team in the epl where I couldn't name the entire starting 11 of. Will check some of bernardo stats. Cheers.

Bong ousted him a lot last season because Hughton was an idiot, but seeing as Potter plays an attacking system Bernardo will surely get the nod over Bong, as Bong knows not how to move the ball forward.

My shoehorning of Sterling into my team needs me to start a 4.5 def each week. Hoping A.Smith starts the first couple and then a new option emerges. Heard lots of talk of O'Connell and his attacking potential but just want to see how they get on initially and around GW6 SHU fixtures get tricky

You don't buy a 4.5 as a season keeper, playing every week. You shift them in and out depending on form and fixtures. Regarding promotees, I'd be waiting and watching to see who steps up.

Here's my first crack at it. Tear it apart, please.

    Pickford – (Button)
    TAA – Laporte – Digne – Targett – (Kelly)
    Salah – Sterling – Zaha – Perez – (Hayden)
    Vardy – King – (Nketiah)

Pickford's score was inflated by his penalty saves and Everton could start without Gueye meaning poor defensive potential. King is part of a seriously inconsistent team. For 5.0, Long and especially Andone will get more minutes than Nketiah. I doubt Villa's defensive solidity so Targett as a starter is not tempting. And Bournemouth defenders make me sick. Also Zaha might not start the first game.

For Everton though, they might not be. Last season they would tonk a team like Arsenal or something and then lose 2-0 to Fulham. Gueye is absolutely crucial to their defense. All that said, I'm still starting with Digne. Just caution against an option in their defence with no outlet for attacking points.

Any Bournemouth fans around? I'm wondering if Jack Stacey might be a good shout at 4.5. He seems like a quality player, particularly going forward.

It's hard to predict anyone to be as successful as Doherty was last season, but Stacey has an eye for goal and had a few assists last season as well.

That being said, I haven't seen much footage of him so I was hoping someone else might have more insight.

Am I lacking Everton cover for their great early run? If Heaton is 2n choice/leaves Pope comes in.

please RMT and any suggestions very welcome!!

not a fan of 3 striker formations but as they go this is good stuff
would probably save the 0.5 on keeper rotation by starting with ryan and switching to burnley keeper later on

This is a team that I'm fairly happy with:

    Ryan
    TAA VVD Laporte Digne Trippier
    Salah Sterling Pérez
    Vardy King

    Button Dendoncker Stephens Nketiah

Now my question is, should I downgrade Sterling to De Bruyne which means that I could upgrade Stephens to Zaha? This would give me more flexibility and allow me to shift between 5-3-2, 4-4-2 or 5-4-1 depending on fixtures. Or do you think Sterling is worth the extra 2.5m over De Bruyne?

I’d do the KdB switch myself - slight gamble involved of course. But Vardy KdB is potential gold. Even better imo is Vardy KdB Siggy

The case for a Leicester mid I think is weakish given the fixture run and how hard it is to call which one. Vardy is the top 6 killer and I’d hold on double up till fixtures turn

    ____ / (Button)
    TAA VVD Digne Zinky (Kelly)
    Salah _____ Siggy Bilva (Donkey)
    King Jota ____

    A) Ederson + Yarm + Vardy
    B) Ryan + Sterling + (Wickham)

Advantage of A is stronger bench: Yarm/Jota rotate really nice whilst the non-player is going to be better than donkey regardless of the fixture, and the pair of them cover Kings wk3 fixture. Also has Ederson & Vardy.
Advantage of B is Sterling, an additional captaincy option and that nice run of fixtures City have.

RMT tool reckons B is better by 6 points over the first 6 weeks if that helps.

      Interesting

The midfield looks underpowered of course but Kane Kuncould compensate. My double premium model up top would have Vardy who could work well against defences who won’t smother him.

In principle I’d want one of TAA or Robbo as they return more consistently than vvd - or did last time out. I got very frustrated with early VVD.

Does anyone have any stats on Liverpool when the big 3 aren’t together up top?

What’s putting me off early Mo is only partially Afcon and missing chunks of preseason - it’s more the collective absence and the feeling that it’ll be a couple of weeks anyway before they feature together in 90 minutes.

Does Mo work as well when Mane Bobby aren’t alongside? Are there any precedents?
