Bournemouth attack appeals but defence remains suspect

With Bournemouth sitting third in our Season Ticker for the first ten Gameweeks of 2019/20 and meeting only two of the ‘big six’ in that time, there will be plenty of interest in their Fantasy assets from the off.

Despite £2.0m price hikes, Ryan Fraser (£7.5m) and Callum Wilson (£8.0m) currently sit in more than one in five Fantasy Premier League squads – although the ‘auto-pick’ selections will be skewing Wilson’s figure slightly.

Joshua King‘s (£6.5m) ownership is also in excess of 20% at the time of writing.

We have already taken an in-depth look at King and Wilson in a Members’ article, which examines the pair’s attacking credentials in a direct head-to-head comparison.

This Numbers Game piece will explore Bournemouth’s wider attacking threat but also analyse their defensive numbers from 2018/19.

Nathan Ake (£5.0m) is, perhaps surprisingly given the Cherries’ well-documented problems at the back, currently the most popular FPL defender in the £4.5m-£5.0m bracket, having been drafted in by over 16% of FPL bosses.

Just watched latest FFS youtube content and have to say that Jonty and David made me seriously start considering KDB over Sterling and 2.5m save for investements elsewhere.
One thing that scares me is the fact that young Raheem is constantly improving his game under Pep and only God knows what heights he will achieve this coming season.

I have a preference for sterling, one more amazing season before he heads off with pep to Spain

Kdb is excellent but his fitness worries me.

Although too early to really say without knowing what happens pre season

Salah, Sterling and 2 x Liverpool defenders are so far only unmovable players in my drafts, but I have to say should KDB have a decent injury free run in pre season ans start in Charity Shield I may be tempted to make Sterling -> KBD switch.

I’m worried that preseason may be impossible to read.

Neither Kun nor Jesus will be about much if at all. The frontline will unlikely be a read for the season. I think I’ll probably start with KdB but Pep may simply rest him more just because of last season and we won’t know about that till it happens - again not sure preseason tells us much about that

My particular concern is that Sane - forgotten man - will regain the wing spot on a fairly regular basis. That would leave Bilva Dilva and KdB in two spots in the middle. KdB would of course be very regular but a long way behind Sterling as a cert.

I'm watching closely for this in pre season if sane stays at city. He's the biggest no brainer in the game at 9.5 if starting

Feeling like a broken record here but this coverage notion is a huge misconception. Thinking about whether you should have kdb or sterling is a failure in reasoning. One is 12 one is 9.5. Sterling is up against Salah, mane, kun, Aubameyang for a place in your squad or a value spread. Kdb is up against lacazette, Kane, Vardy, sane, firmino or a value spread.

Dont see much wrong in debating whether to have Sterling or KDB.
For me KDB is up against Sterling, Salah, Mane and Eriksen (should he stay at Spurs), since I never intended to own Mane or Eriksen - question I am asking is prefectly fine and got nothing to with "cover".

So i have settled in the below 9 players who i dont want to change in the moment:
    Ryan
    Digne TAA VVD
    KDB Bernardo Salah
    Kane King

need two more players for my starting XI with 10.5 in the bank. any position.
    Suggestions?

Coleman instead of Digne in my opinion, Digne likes a blank/card and costs more.

There could be weeks where both BSilva and KDB don’t start or play at all in peps rotation.

        King meh.

I think you have bigger problems than the other 2 players to be honest.

digne has set piece threat so i prefer him.
bsilva had a fantastic season and i believe he will be starter. either in the front three or mid three.
kdb when fit is always a starter imo. i dont expect dsilva to feature much this year.
aguero has the same rotation threat as the above imo.
king for nailedness, penalties and fixtures.

That is actually a great team. It shows that going with just one big hitter can really make every starting 11 pick decent. Love the triple Liverpool defence. I am going with Salah because of first two fixtures. But I can easily see myself with triple Liverpool defence at some point this season if all these three remain fit.

    Wilson - DCL - (Greenwood)

I know a lot will say Pogba + DCL -> Siggy + King or Pogba + Yarmolenko -> Fraser + Maddison/Zaha or Siggy + Perez/Tielemans but I really want Pogba in my side. Feel hes being overlooked. I actually hope he doesnt do too well in pre-season so he stays under the radar.

    A) 5-3-2

how many points do you think Sterling will outscore KdB?

50 maybe. Add to that the fact that you can regularly captain sterling.

I've had the same team at some point. Ake got 120 points last year. Jorginho only got 96, but if he looks like their penalty taker I'd prefer him in a 442.

Uncomfortable going with a 5 back but not feeling a lot of value from the 5.5-5.0 department

Very inflexible. Your 4.5 attackers are useless whereas 4.5 defenders are very useful and fixture dependant. Very quickly I think you'll realise you want the money spread across your backline used in one of those cheap attacking slots

Greenwood may be "useless", but Dendoncker and Stephens definitely aren't - they'll stream a pretty steady 2 points throughout the season, and Dendo should get a few goals too - there won't be too many 4.5 defenders who outscore Dendoncker over the course of a season imo

I think it will take an absolute miracle for Liverpool assets to perform as well as they did last season - especially if they don't strengthen this summer.

You fancy them to nearly hit 100 points again this season? With 21 clean sheets? I think that is a big ask, personally.

They don't need to do that to perform as well. Salah was a much better FPL asset the previous year.

All they need is a bit more depth in attack and defence. Ox and Wilson might do the trick and just buy a young left back

Wilson is nowhere near the level needed to step in to the liverpool team (from someone who watched a fair bit of derby last season).

If Mane is eased in by Klopp early on - with limited minutes and/or a rest, does that make Mo a stronger or weaker asset? Or no difference? Does anyone have numbers for what happens when he is not alongside Mane?

    1. Get up ya bum
      • 14 Years

He’s had a heck of a year. No rest for 12 months if you factor in CL too. A number of WC players were eased in last time from memory.

Yeah I suppose may as well use the squad ay. I'm sure he'd be fine but it would catch up with him later in season with fatigue and injuries if he doesn't get a proper rest

    Begovic / Steklenberg
Van Dijk / Walker / Coleman / Adam Smith / Diop
    Salah / Siggurdsson / Fraser / Maddison / Dendoncker
    Vardy / Firmino / Ings

    It comes down to this:
Keep Begovic for Week 1 (Sheff Utd) or put Fabianski in and don't pre-plan a transfer
    Siggurdsson or B Silva?
Walker could go to Stones (if nailed)
Ings will do until another regular 6.0 Forward shows up (I'm looking at you West Ham and Everton)
Will only one 10+ be enough, or should I tinker to get De Bruyne in (or Eriksen if he goes to ManUre)

Everyday has been different so far, but I think this is the "core" (apart from the imponderables above)

People don't like the 3 big hitters generally, and I can see the benefit if vardy over kane to use the £2m elsewhere. Issue is I can't find a good way to use the £2m to make up for the fact kane will outscore vardy. Plus I don't like double Leicester and struggle for a Perez replacement. Arrrrrgggghhh.

    Help?

    Heaton(/Pope)
    TAA VVD Digne Zinchenko
    Salah Sterling Perez Jorginho
    Kane King

I think 3 big hitters is one too many as they're usually only good value when captained. Upgrading Jorginho looks like a no-brainer to me.

I think Perez/Tielemans is fine. But if you don't want them alongside Vardy, maybe Fraser and upgrade Jorginho with the other million? Not much around at 6 I guess maybe Yarmolenko
