The tough task facing new Brighton manager Potter

Despite some minor Fantasy interest in his players, new Brighton manager Graham Potter might find it tough to transform their Fantasy Premier League appeal for the new season.

The Seagulls currently sit fourth on the Season Ticker for the first six Gameweeks of 2019/20 and there has been some early interest in their defence.

Watford, Southampton and Burnley are Brighton’s first three opponents at the Amex Stadium, while the first six Gameweeks will see them travel to Watford, Manchester City and Newcastle.

As things stand, both of the Seagulls’ goalkeepers Mat Ryan (£4.5m) and David Button (£4.0m) are in the top four most popular in their position.

22.7% of managers are in possession of the latter, while Brighton’s Australian international Ryan sits in 16.9% of squads.

However, there is plenty of work to be done in Sussex for Potter and his new players to avoid relegation.

Brighton’s second stab at Premier League football was a tricky one, especially towards the end.

They won just three of the last 23 league matches of the season and stayed up by the skin of their teeth, helped by Cardiff City’s failed recovery bid.

We are continuing our ‘Numbers Game’ series with a look at the Seagulls’ underlying data across the pitch in 2018/19 to assess their potential for the new campaign.

How would you spend 14.5m on 2 players (midfielders or forwards only, already got Siggy & King)?

I’ve tinkered Sterling out of my team for the first time to make may for Kane.

Looking at the first block of 3 games I feel I’d want a couch without Spurs attack in 2 of them.

    Spurs: GW1 (Villa), GW3 (NewC)
City: Think we can live without Sterling for the first 3. Possibly!

    Anyone see it the same?

Starting to think like this...if you know you'll definitely captain Salah for a bit...think it makes sense.

Kane at 11 is a steal as well.

I think it’s a reasonable punt in case we get treated to an in form Kane from the start.

I’d imagine I’ll WC around GW 4-6 anyway.

He gives so much certainty as well. Just know he'll play 90 mins unless he gets injured and will definitely take pens and be the focus of every attack.

I'd like to work Sterling in as well, but it's either Sterling + a 4.5 or Siggy + 8.5 type situation...

Compared to Kane and Salah Sterling doesnt seem worth it. I wont be captaining him, therefore I wont own him

I have KDB right now but the loose plan is to change him for Son in gw 3 unless he looks unplayable from the start.

Looking at City premiums I just cant shake the feeling that Kane is a much better use of the money because of his nailedness and guaranteed minutes. Hes cheaper and will play more minutes over the season than both. Safe captain option too because of minutes and pens. Im not a fan of several premiums because we lose value by not capping them, but if I get another one in addition to Salah its most likely going to be Kane

I think I already know the answer, but:

    A) Perez and Bentekkers
    B) Barkley and King

The huge ? hovers over whether Lampard sees Barkley as a first XI player. I think he could thrive under him, he'd the closest Lampard type player in that Chelsea side (not comparing him to be anywhere near as good btw!)

    Ryan

Whoever starts for Chelsea will be great value. 7m (assuming Abraham, and Bats come in around this price too) - when usually the Chelsea striker is £10m minimum.

  8. Ask Yourself

What do people think of the fixture swing in GW3. Spurs, city, Chelsea, Leicester, united and more all have amazing fixtures from then on. Stop trying to make a team fit the season and use your WC in GW3 like me and win the first 2 GWs

Just makes it too clunky and awkward for me. With the window ending before the season starts a later WC not as important imo. 2 GWs will give us enough to go with and as I say that’s when the best shift is in fixtures as people will miss out on a lot trying to make it last so long

    2. The 5% Team
      • 5 Years

Don't think Leicester counts as a fixture swing. And Spurs only have GW2 as a difficult one. City can be seen as fixture proof imo.
But I like the way you're thinking...a lot more info about nailed and in form players by GW3

City, Liverpool, Everton and Bournemouth all have good fixtures for a while so I don't see the need to plan an early Wildcard. You're unlikely to be able to fit in many players from the teams you mention without ditching other good assets with good fixtures anyway.

Difficult isn't it. Pope and Gunn look the best options but fixtures aren't the best. Ryan and Button have been in one of my drafts but I see Brighton conceding a lot next season. Don't trust Norwich or Villa. If Sheffield United resign Henderson on loan that could be the way to go.

Especially if you assume "bad" fixtures = save points. Pope has the edge purely because we know how Burnley operate & can reasonably assume points returns on that basis.

Ryan has better fixtures but there's the unknown aspect of new manager which I'm happier to wait on.

I think Fabianksi trumps Leno at the same price point. Better points per game, better save %, better fixtures to start with. Only thing that helps Leno might be having stronger defenders around him, or that it will be his first full season as the starting goal keeper for Arsenal. But I'm not convinced.

Just Dendoncker at the start I think. Don't like putting an extra 0.5m OTB if I can avoid it, especially with prices this season.

    Ederson

    Robertson - TAA - Digne

Salah - Zaha - Ayoze Perez - Buendia - Oliver Norwood

    Aguero - Jiminez

    Bench: Button, Long, Basham, Kelly

    Thoughts?

2 players from promoted sides in starting XI a bit much maybe?

Might rather have Andone over Long on my bench

Unsure of which trio would be better:
    A. Kane Kdb Perez
    B. Vardy Sterling Yarmolenko

      Kane > Sterling
      Vardy > KDB
      Perez and Yarmolenko equally punty.
      It's a 50/50 gamble.

Reckon Haller is worth a look if he joins West Ham? A 7m price tag could be nice looking at those opening fixtures (City aside).

Yes, but he's going to cost them 40 million plus, so I can't see him coming in at 7, but hope I'm wrong.

If he comes in at 6.5 (which what I think he may get marked up as) he will be in almost every RMT
At 7 I still think he's a bit of a steal given WHU fixtures after GW1 and Pellegrini's set up making him probably the only reliable starter out of his attacking options

DCL is first choice it seems, but Im worried hes going to be dropped if he has 2-4 poor games out of the gates. Hope he has worked on his finishing. He was actually really high up the headed chances last season, and has great service from the likes of Digne, but his finishing was really poor.

      Salah Sterling 6.0

Slim pickings at the moment - maybe one of the West Ham defenders and a Villa defender? Some more options should emerge as pre-season progresses and transfers occur - especially as a CB merry-go-round may start soon if Maguire goes to Man U.

Why do people seem think Laporte is going to get lots of attacking returns? Last season was his best ever, over the course of his career he has averaged an attack return around once every 12 games. I'm predicting 2 goals one assist this season.
