FPL Community Questions: Live Stream

Our twice-weekly live streams continue with a community questions special this afternoon.

Joe and Neale will be on air on our YouTube channel from 12:30pm BST but you can also tune in via the embedded video below.

This will be converted into podcast format after the event.

Yesterday we put out a request for questions via a Hot Topic and Twitter and we’ll be addressing some of those topics today.

Giggs Boson asked about Bournemouth assets and we’ll be looking at the Cherries, along with Leicester City players, in our latest mid-price price bracket analysis.

Bambi wondered if 5-3-2 is too inflexible should an early bandwagon emerge and we’ll be sharing our views on that, too.

With the ‘going big in defence’ strategy gathering momentum, two relatively overlooked premium forwards are also discussed.

We’ll be filming another one of these videos on Thursday lunchtime tackling more of the requests that were submitted on our site or on social media.

Keep your requests coming in for topics of debate in the meantime and we’ll get through as many as we can before the season begins.

    It's great to be back!

Thought I'd post my first draft on here. What's your thoughts on this guys?

    Foster (Ryan)
    Robbo TAA Laporte Digne (Kelly)
    Salah Sterling Maddison (Hojbjerg Dendoncker)
    Jimenez King Long

Looks good as a first draft but won't start with Long , he might not be first choice anymore.

The long thing... Would probably forget about Foster too. Put money to use elsewhere.

Not sure what to do here:

    A. Zinchenko/brooks/sterling/wickham

    Or

    B. Walker/siggy/kdb/andone

    Thanks guys

I prefer A because Sterling is a great captaincy option.

Done some tweaking, switching from a 4-4-2 to a 4-3-3 (Brooks > King essentially):

    Heaton / Pope
    VvD | Laporte | Ward | Gibson
    Salah | Sterling | Perez
    Aguero | Ings | King

    Ryan | Dendoncker | Noble | Diop

Hoping for Gibson to either move on or Maguire > Man U, Tarkowski > Leicester to make Gibson 1st choice.

    Any feedback much appreciated!

60 goals & 38 assists between them last season returning 694 points.

Can't see me changing my mind of having those 3 in.

The sames been thought for the past two seasons but that hasn't really been the case.

If Liverpool are pushing them hard again I doubt we'll see loads of rotation.

Prefer a lot of other 4.5m defenders myself but just looking at rotation for the first 6 gameweeks. Ward, Diop & Gibson work well.

Kun > Kane and then Long > 6.5 fwd? Or Adams and VVD > TAA/Robbo.

Or if you want to keep Kun
Get Ederson, ditch Laporte for a 4.5 and Long > Adams

    Which one please?

    A)
    Pickford
    Zinchenko, TAA, VVD, Coleman
    Fraser, Sigi, Perez, Salah, Sterling
    King

    B)
    Pickford
    Zinchenko, VVD, Coleman
    Zaha, Perez, Salah, Sterling, Sigi
    Wilson, King

    C)
    Ederson
    Zinchenko,VVD, Coleman
    Zaha, Perez, Salah, Fraser, Sigi
    Aguero, King

No playing subs - will change Zinchenko if not playing - A, B or C please?

A looks better on paper, though im not a fan of the 4-5-1 formation
B also looks good but has no Trent, must have for me. Like Wilson + King double up.

I think Andre Gomes is going to have a big season and could prove good value at 5.5m. Those wanting to do something different with big hitters could look for players like this making their mark this season. I wanted his goals involvement in a couple of vids but there are a few of his best bits on this link https://www.facebook.com/Everton/videos/429698511203148/

He's certainly got a bit of class but I think if Everton had a main striker who could finish, then his stats will improve this year. Not for everyone before people start shouting Siggy at me.... just a different thought process

    1. Skalla
      • 7 Years
      4 years, 8 months ago

I think a lot could depend on Gueye, if he leaves Gomes will have more defensive duties even next to Delph/Schneiderlin, but for 5.5m you should compare him to Coleman not Siggy that is the reason most are backing defenders in that price bracket.

I hear you mate. A draft I just looked at to test the water looks like this:-

        Fabianski
        VVD TAA Digne Dunk
        Milivojevic Salah Sterling Gomes
        Wilson Rashford

        Button Dendoncker Andone Lundstram

It's different but I'm not totally set against it

          • 7 Years

Yeah that is a good team , but I would rather have Coleman/Andone playing instead of Dunk/Gomes.

I'm a little biased but I really think Rashford could be an option at the start. First game is potentially tough but then his fixtures are quite good for a while. Also, Lukaku seems to be on his way out with Ole being very noncommittal when asked about Lukaku's future. And while we will likely sign a replacement I think Ole favours Rashford as he generally seems to like youth. Especially if we get Bruno who some are saying we're in for.

    1. The 5% Team
      • 5 Years

kinda weird...atm feel like he's a bit overpriced (when I compare him to likes of Jimenez, Wilson), but IF United get going I feel he swings to being underpriced (a nailed and scoring Utd striker for under 9m)

    2. Skalla
      • 7 Years
      4 years, 8 months ago

The problem is he needs to basically match Vardy at his price point and I just feel even if he does well there will be enough of the cheaper forwards thay match or outscore him.

    3. Pep Pig
      • 7 Years
      4 years, 8 months ago

He's been in a few of my drafts and a main striker for Man Utd at 8.5m should be good value. A lot slating Utd for the way the season ended but I'm pretty confident they'll do well this season. Rashford will be key if they do

    4. how many hits?!!
      • 13 Years
      4 years, 8 months ago

Was thinking of Rashford too - if Pogba goes would he be on penalties? He took the last EPL pen and scored, but Man U got 12 last season so Rash could be well worth 8.5M if he has the chance of an additional 10/11 goals a season...

If you have Salah or Sterling, you're going to captain them. Having the likes of Auba and not captaining him is not good value.

Salah and Sterling play as high up the pitch and get +1 for goals and +1 for clean sheets. The points system is biased when you have these """midfielders""" who dont play in midfield at all.

Best GW1 captain and nice second fixture. From then I prefer a Spurs/City captain rotation which is pretty perfect so can’t justify the abnormal use of 13m

Siggy has great fixtures past GW2.

Going without Salah might be ok. Or Vardy he has somehow looked shiiiite in first two games

        1. The Bad Seed
          • 6 Years
          4 years, 8 months ago

Makes sense.... Im VERY hesitant on Vardy.

I have Siggy too, but every single day I switch him out for Rich then back... Cant make up my mind, Preseason will be key.

As for Salah - not sure we want to go without him.

Regarding Everton fixtures, i slightly disagree, Palace have the WORST home form. Defensively and Offensively.

Watford are just Watford, they might be tough offensively, but for Siggy, they might even be easier then the enigmatic Villa.....

What are your thoughts on DCL? If he's their only striker, isnt that a sweet 6.5er? I currently sit on Siggy/Rich, Coleman and Digne.

Hell I even want Pickford in too xd

            I do Have Vardy though.

My current squad (far from final)

Ryan - Pope (nice rotation. If Pope is nailed)

Digne, Coleman, VVD, Zinchenko (Maybe Laporte if $) and Kelly (fodder)

Fraser, Millivojevic/Fanderson, Siggy, Salah. Bilva (might do him to KDB if $)

            King, Vardy, Greenwood (fodder)

            Thoughts?

I hate that I have no viable argument against owning Milivojevic aside "he's kinda expensive". Every time I tell myself "he won't get ten penalties again" I'm reminded that that is exactly what I said last season.

Yep that looks better , also think Arsenal vs Newcastle should be 'easier', maybe not taking into account their transfers and Manager leaving?

Nah. I'm reminded of last season's opening fixture for West Ham against Liverpool. Everyone thought a bit of a fight would be put up but it was a clean wiping 4-0. Think we'll see a repeat, Fredericks and Masuaka will be ruined by Sané and Sterling

West Ham away isn't an easier fixture than Norwich, Villa or Sheffield at home, and that's taking into account how good City are too.

Small numbers are very unreliable. Anything above 150 or below -150 tends to be much more accurate.

That looks about right to me then. I have a sneaky suspicion Brighton-Watford could be an absolute goals bonanza which could go either way however.

I keep coming back to my very first draft 5-3-2

    Ryan
    TAA Robbo Digne Coleman Zinchenko
    Salah(c) Siggy B.Silva
    Aguero(v) King

    Button Dendoncker Hayden Wickham

My initial thinking was to focus on Liverpool, City and Everton due to fixtures and their form from the end of the last season....

Are you really going to be sat there on the first GW of the brand new season, weeks of prep and excitement, to then wait 90 minutes hoping none of your defender’s teams make a mistake that leads to a silly goal that wipes out a huge chunk of your potential points. I’d be terrified

I have a 5-3-2 draft which is below, I'm very unsure about the bench and playing 5 defenders regularly though, never done it before. 4 of them are quite attacking though.

      Ryan
      Trent, Robbo, Laporte, Digne, Wan-Bissaka
      Salah, Sterling, Zaha
      Wilson, Deulofeu

      Button, Hayden, Dendonker, Greenwood

Am I missing something? How is it not obvious stats play a bigger part than anything we can realistically see? Watford were a good team last year aswell lol. Luck is a bigger part of the success and sure there is a place for your opinion but because it is your opinion doesn’t mean it’s correct

Stats clearly do paint a certain picture, but football is not a sport than can be only looked at only via statistical numbers. It's much more than that, otherwise we wouldn't need to watch the games or play the game. Watford have been a decent side, sure, but there's no way that a double up at the beginning of the season can be justified, no matter what numbers you look at.

And I'm basing that argument on the fact that probably at least 5 spots in your team should be made up by Liv and City players. For the other 6 spots, there are still plenty of good, relatively cheap players left from 8 other teams that finished above Watford in the table last season. That's a good stat as well, no?

                      • 7 Years

6 others then* and that sounds like an irrational approach to this game to me

                        • 8 Years

I'm not picking my team by that approach. But it's just to clarify that I wouldn't use 33% of my non-Liv/City spots on the mighty, statistically remarkable Watford. Leicester, Everton and Wolves seem far more impressive in terms of prospect for this season and great, well priced FPL assets. And we still haven't mentioned Spurs, Arsenal, United and Chelsea yet. They will become relevant, even if they're not included in the template teams.

Yeah waiting on those teams for now as their fixtures shift in GW3 and we’ll have returning players for various reasons (injury, international duties, suspension) so I am starting with teams such as Watford with good early fixtures and a history of strong starts before the must haves become obvious

Over the last third of the season, Watford had the worst xGC out of every single team. Bottom. The one-match stats are of course relevant for one match, but if they pick-up where they left off, clean sheets will be hard to come by.

I don't trust Jota with Europa League and King did a lot better with Wilson out of the team so I think that could be a trap. Deulofeu has alright fixtures but his points per minute were very good (can't remember if that factored in his position change though) and he was the talisman for Watford last season (again, I don't know if that accounts for position change). Over the course of the season I can see him scoring close to 140-150 which would be good for that price. Can't see King hitting that unless Wilson gets an injury for two months.

Not a fan at all myself, but I did see someone with a relatively convincing case about why this could be his year - I think the TLDR was that he was expected to play much more often overall this season and that his output would also uptick slightly

Not a player for me in FPL, at least to start with, but he is ex barca and does have a certain quality about him

He's also a madman with a few lucozades in him :

AS Roma fan here, we've seen him in Rome playing for a club I do not nominate around three years ago with the attitude of a 1930s female movie star. A ridiculous clown outside the field, and that was the best he's shown here. On the field things got even worse. Why bother?

Yep Rico is mine. Watch the Howe mic’d up video from yesterday. Kelly comes into training doing a wheelie, obviously not taking it seriously. Daniels is there but he is very old. One person who stands out and receives a lot of praise from Howe is Rico.

    Bernado Silva's incredible 2018/19 season:
Club record = 13 goals and 14 assists. Premier league champions, FA cup winners, Carabao Cup winners.
International = 3 goals and 9 assists. Nations league champions.
Individual Honours = PFA Team of the Year, Alan Hardaker Trophy, Man City Player of the Season, Nations league Player of the Tournament.

No City midfielder made more Premier League starts than Bernardo (31), with Guardiola repeatedly singing the praises of the Portugal international, from his pre-season declaration of “it’s Bernardo and ten others”

How people here are dismissing him as "not a fantasy option" baffles me, at only £8.0m he is underpriced and boarderline essential.

His FPL numbers will only get better with DeBruyne playing behind him this season. I'm predicting similar points to Siggy's output last term (around 180).
I doubt Fraser will maintain that score again this time 'round, I have a feeling Bournemouth are going to play a back 5 a lot, which could seriously hamper him.

          a) Good enough for City

City - he'll be rotated, prob with Stones.
United - too few clean sheets.
Is he particularly quick? I don't think he is. Ole plays a high press; the right ball over the top or through the middle for the likes of Vardy to run onto, and that's 4 points gone.

With our opening fixtures I think either he or Shaw could be good options. Maguire for corner goals and BAPs. Shaw for assists potentially depending on how far Ole lets the full backs push forward.
