FPL Community Questions: Live Stream

Our twice-weekly live streams continue with a community questions special this afternoon.

Joe and Neale will be on air on our YouTube channel from 12:30pm BST but you can also tune in via the embedded video below.

This will be converted into podcast format after the event.

Yesterday we put out a request for questions via a Hot Topic and Twitter and we’ll be addressing some of those topics today.

Giggs Boson asked about Bournemouth assets and we’ll be looking at the Cherries, along with Leicester City players, in our latest mid-price price bracket analysis.

Bambi wondered if 5-3-2 is too inflexible should an early bandwagon emerge and we’ll be sharing our views on that, too.

With the ‘going big in defence’ strategy gathering momentum, two relatively overlooked premium forwards are also discussed.

We’ll be filming another one of these videos on Thursday lunchtime tackling more of the requests that were submitted on our site or on social media.

Keep your requests coming in for topics of debate in the meantime and we’ll get through as many as we can before the season begins.

Don't recall him ever being a success, unless you count U16s.

Although, Chris Wilder can work miracles.

        He really can.

As a fan, if anyone else had brought him in, I'd be cross. But having a manager you can completely and utterly trust is the most wonderful thing!

You're preaching to the converted Dan my friend.
I'm a Northampton fan, and before Chris Wilder was the genius behind getting SHU into the PL, he was performing the miracle of dragging the most shocking Northampton team I've ever seen from the foot of the league two table to safety in a matter of months.

Wonderful manager, wish him all the success in the coming season (and SHU by extension).

If he gets Morrison playing, then I expect Wilder to be the next England manager.

Is there anyone out there who watches the Bundesliga and can comment on Haller?

    1. Offside Trapattoni
      • 7 Years
      4 years, 9 months ago

He's often compared to David Trezeguet, and while I wouldn't go that far, he's big/strong and scores some truly amazing golazos.

He's consistent, which makes him a fantasy consideration and if I remember right he scored 16 and had 8 or 9 assists last year for Frankfurt. Great on set pieces and just overall very athletic and can outmuscle just about anyone.

Definitely a player to watch for. I will wait and see how he adapts to a new league but lots of promise.

As part of negotiations over a deal for Kieran Trippier, Tottenham have been offered the chance to sign Atletico Madrid striker Angel Correa, Sky Sports News understands.

It is unclear whether Spurs want to sign Correa but he is an Argentina intentional and therefore well-known to Mauricio Pochettino.

Not sure that's right, Heaton refused a contract extension, and since then Pope and Hart have played 45 minutes in a pre-season game.

Heaton is third choice currently - I think this is more down to the issue of him wanting a move though, not because of his quality.

I only saw the scene with Aladdin entering the city as prince Abu and that was enough to realize it was a clear downgrade from the original. Whats the point in making a new version that lacks all the charm and color we already have with the original. People who watch this crap in the cinema are the reason there is no original content and that creative people with good ideas are kept away from the decision making at big companies. Sheep.

West Ham signing Fornals, and now likely Haller.

I mean, both of these are absolutelt marquee signings. Haller especially, how West Ham have gotten him is mind-boggling. He has the ability to play at CL-level football, how did a team like Bayern not get him?

If West Ham get one or two more of these signings, Europe is very much a clear objective imo. Pellegrini has what it takes.

Personally I'm always skeptical of these euro wonders that come over (fornals & haller for example)

I think there's a lot of the old 'far away fields look green' syndrome with many continental imports... if either of them end up doing half as well as Felipe Anderson or Richarlison for example they'll be doing well...

And Felipe and rich are generally cursed up & down the walls in FPL circles 🙂

True true. The PL is a different animal, after all. And some fans (like myself) tend to sometimes rate a player based on how "exotic" his name sounds haha. Diogo Jota last season, for example.

Jimenez was an exotic sounding import from abroad, and he did brilliantly. So you never know.

I think there is a lot of that unfortunately lol... But for every 5 or 6 duds there's also a Firmino or a Mane... Very interested to see West ham now as they'll also have Yarmolenko back

Indeed. Its usually the manager I look to when I see a team loaded with talented, foreign imports. And Pellegrini is class. If they get Haller and say, one more class player, yuo, might get one of their attacking assets in.

I really rate Pellegrini also - did he sign Kun for city? City were very reliable FPL wise under him & were good to watch - he’s a better manager than most in the league

Ah that’s right... what a signing

Love his description of Pelligrini’s style back in 2013:

“Such was Manchester City's ruthlessness in front of goal from all angles – intricate passing moves, crosses, solo-runs and set pieces – The Daily Telegraph likened City's style to "death by beautiful geometry"

Just to hop in here if I may, saw him quite a bit last season and he's very much a prototype Premier League 9 in that he's physical and has a great aerial game. Can see him get on the end of a lot of corners, loves a good scrap and hold up play is top drawer, can bring others into the play serve up some assists too.

Once he adapts, could be Jimenez/Callum Wilson type production.

decent Right back is what they haven't had since....long time
It was the leaky bucket place last season in particular.
With defense priced at 4.5 could become the bargains of the season if they get him in.

If I was a fan of another PL side outside the top 4 I'd be salty about this for sure. Thankfully I'm not 🙂

I'd say he's using WH as a stepping stone to a CL club, which whether we like it or not, probably suits both parties. He looks a super player and I can see Bayern or Athletico paying top whack for him in a year or two's time.

Still not signed yet mind you - we've been screwed before.

I don't want to upset any West Ham fans, but i think you shouldn't get carried away with the new 'potential' signings. Haller is a pure striker, as cool as it gets in front of goal and he has the strenght to survive in the premier league. I don't watch that much of Bundesliga, but i did watch him at FC Utrecht for two seasons before he went to Frankfurt. I had him in my Dutch Fantasy team too because of his goalscoring abilities. I noticed however just like in the Eredivisie, 20% of his goals are coming from spot kicks. He is a specialist if you like, but if Noble isn't willing to hand them over it will hamper his output quite a bit. He is a good finisher, but besides that he hasn't got great pace or tricks up his sleeve so asking why bayern didn't get him, that might be it.

About Veltman, you might have seen him in the CL. He was fairly decent there, but besides that most Ajax fans won't be unhappy he leaves at all. He is decent defensively but doesn't offer anything going forward, he most of the times was the worst on the ball in the ajax team. tbf that's what they are good at but still, he mainly played so much for ajax because of injuries for tete, van rhijn and mazraoui or one of them leaving the club.

I think it cuts the rest of the team too thin (having Kane and Vardy) I've looked at it myself many times.

Just had a tinker, if you're prepared to downgrade Sterling even further to B.Silva (who I like a lot, of course not comparing him to Sterling - but don't think there will be too much between KdB and B.Silva)

              Salah - B.Silva - Zaha - Perez
Kane - Vardy - Giroud (again £7m for whoever starts up front for Chelsea is great value)

              +defence of TAA and Digne + 4.5m + a 4.5m keeper.

                I like but I think I'm going 442
As such will go with a 4.5 striker as bench fodder and have another premium defender
Have a look at El Ghazi I think he could be gold

It was just a quick look at what a Sterling to B.Silva downgrade could achieve.
He's on my pre-season watch list as I've seen him in a few teams (El Ghazi) but he'll have to do something magic to dislodge Zaha, and Perez for me, think they are great value options.

Waiting for pre-season to confirm it, but rumours are Rodger will look to set Leicester up like he set Liverpool up with the Suarez/Sterling/Sturridge dynamic, so yes, Perez would be a OOP striker with Vardy, potentially.

I've got something fairly similar, but with a lively bench that allows me any combination of formation.

          Pope, 4m
TAA, VVD, Zinks, Christensen/5m, Dunk (if at Lei)
          Salah, Sterling, Perez, Noble, Donks

Well, that is intriguing! A Burnley keeper as set/forget, I'll have to monitor the situation further, but a Europe-less Burnley could be class.
Noble is a nice bench option, I must say. On penos, and great fixtures after GW1.

            1. Andy_Social

Noble will hop in and out. Eg GW2 Leicester and Chelsea have a nasty fixture so I'll go 3 at the back while Noble has an easy ride.
The 5m defender could be Aurier - we just saw so little of him last season but if he tears it up in pre-season I'll have him.
I really want the massive points haul TAA/VVd will bring so no Liv keeper. I think Ryan is a big mistake but I do think there's a good chance the Burnley defence will revert to their form of 2 seasons ago.

Thought so too! Adams is very much a biased pick haha. Aguero I think will start, at least the first few games. Aurier I think is better than many think he is. Cracking cross in him. KwP was overlooked for OOP Foyth end of last season, so not sure how Poch feels about him.

What are people's thoughts on Bernardo Silva?

4 mil cheaper than Sterling making drafts look so much better still with a high quality player who's only getting better.

    1. Kroos Kontrol
      • 11 Years
      4 years, 9 months ago

He's on people's radars. Last season he too often would go a few games with 2s and 3s, but would rarely go to 10.

Could work out really well, but probably not super likely to get those 20 point hauls that Sterling does. Also unsure how his returns change with De Bruyne back.

    2. HamezMace
      • 9 Years
      4 years, 9 months ago

I just posted about him. I like him a lot, although more as a player in real life than a fantasy asset.
He won't be anywhere near Sterling for FPL points, and also isn't a captain option (whereas Sterling most definitely is), but as I said, I think he's a better option than KdB.

I'd rather have B.Silva and Ederson, than KdB and Ryan as a quick example.

      1. Kroos Kontrol
        • 11 Years
        4 years, 9 months ago

In fairness when KdB came back from injury, he got an 11-pointer away from Palace and then got 3 assists in the CL against Spurs (unfortunately got injured in the league game).

I think he's got a rest and pre-season should be good enough for him to get the fitness back up to speed.

        1. HamezMace
          • 9 Years
          4 years, 9 months ago

KdB is quality of course, but I think he might fall into the David Silva role of assister of the assist.
Bernardo Silva seems to now be preferred in the more attacking wide role, I don't think there will be a big points difference between them, around the 120 - 140 points mark over the season.

          1. Kroos Kontrol
            • 11 Years
            4 years, 9 months ago

That's possible, but to an extent would be a new role for him. I just think he's too direct KdB had 21 assists & 199 points in 2016/17, and 18 assists & 209 points in 2017/18. Even in 2015/16, he only played 2000 minutes but got to 130 points.

Bernardo meanwhile only got 8 assists last seasons.

Again it's possible that happens, but it would mean he'll be in a far deeper role this season and he'll underperform in FPL far more than previously.

            1. HamezMace
              • 9 Years
              4 years, 9 months ago

One to monitor in pre-season for sure, just looking at the squad now, I can see him being required in a deeper play making role this coming season.
David Silva, Gundogen, Fernandinho are all being phased out, and Foden I don't think will be playing every week just yet.
KdB is more adaptable to play deeper than the likes of Mahrez, Sane, or B.Silva, in my opinion anyway.
