Salah and Firmino both start in the Community Shield

Liverpool take on Manchester City in the Community Shield this afternoon and the match could be as big a signpost as any as to how the two sides will line up in Gameweek 1.

Mohamed Salah (£12.5m) and Roberto Firmino (£9.5m) both make their first starts of pre-season for the Reds and are joined by Divock Origi (£5.5m) in the front three.

Sadio Mane (£11.5m) is yet to return following his involvement with Senegal at the Africa Cup of Nations.

Alisson (£6.0m), Trent Alexander-Arnold (£7.0m), Andrew Robertson (£7.0m) and Virgil van Dijk (£6.5m) all unsurprisingly feature in the Liverpool backline but Joe Gomez (£5.5m) has been given the nod over Joel Matip (£5.5m) to partner van Dijk at centre-half.

James Milner (£5.5m) is ruled out as a precaution due to a tight muscle.

There are no huge shocks in the Manchester City starting XI, with Aymeric Laporte (£6.5m) missing out through injury as expected.

Sergio Aguero (£12.0m), Gabriel Jesus (£9.5m) and Ederson (£6.0m) are only among the substitutes after their late return from the Copa America.

Raheem Sterling (£12.0m) again leads the line for the Citizens and will be flanked by Leroy Sane (£9.5m) and Bernardo Silva (£8.0m).

Kevin De Bruyne (£9.5m) is part of City’s central midfield three, while Oleksandr Zinchenko (£5.5m) starts again at left-back.

Kick-off at Wembley is at 15:00 BST.

      What worries me here is that Gomez isn’t playing centrally. Looks like TAA could be rotated with Gomez again.

        The fact gomez can play both cb and RB makes it look like he can get a lot of minutes.. That being said TAA, Robertson will get a lot more attacking points. Its nice to know that there is so much value at 5.5 now though

            I'm all for cheap in defense so even saving 0.5 is huge for me.. VVD is nailed.. The other spot is now a toss-up 🙂

        ‘Rotated’ is a bit strong... 2,500 minutes and must have missed about 8 games through injury. He’s a year older and as good as nailed imo.

            I dunno.. Otamendi looks like the past and stones and laporte look like the future. Maybe start with zink and swap to stones once his position looks more secure. I kind of think it'll be stones+laporte for the majority of this season though. Keeping Taylor and Targett on the bench to cover just in case

              can't really afford any 4.5m defender bencher unfortunately.

              Think I will start with Stones just to save myself headache in the future.

              I am sure I will be cursing myself after a Zinchenko assist or somehting in teh first few matches!

        City already bought a LB so unlikely that they’ll buy another LB. But we don’t know yet whether Zinchenko will be firm 1st choice or will be rotated often with Angelino.

        The full first half is a bit much, I think until the international break is realistic.

        Personally, I can't see the appeal over Stones who is City's only right sided CB and has more attacking threat...

          To me it doesn’t seem like Pep rates Stones very highly based on his choices over the last two seasons and would expect heavy rotation with Otamendi and maybe Fernandinho.

        Yeah, this, and 2 Liv players feels a waste - might as well have a third. I have Robbo/VVD/Salah - but if missing one of thie premiums, I think Origi at 5.5 for the first few weeks looks smart.

            Well, he's not in my side, I have 3 Liv Premium - but if I had a 4th Liv slot it'd be him.
            I see him getting good appearances while Mane/Salah warm back into playing full minutes and he in good form.
            Klopp has said a lot of good stuff about him and I see him getting a lot more minutes this year.

      When you put it like that.. :).. I think starting with robbo with a future downgrade to gomez if he is nailed andz if funds are needed makes sense. Robbo and TAA are still miles ahead of the rest of the epl attacking wise. That being said I am a bit tempted by a scenario like A)

      Yes. He will start. If he underperforms he will be rotated though due to their many options. That being said if he underperforms I won't have him in my team anyway.. So punting on him with a ceballos/Chelsea /Mcginn exit plan ready for gw4

    Gomez was the starting CB beside VVD last season, before he broke his leg.

    Saves a few people 1m, but VVD, TAA and Robbo will still score a lot more than him.

      Are you confident that JRod will start? I’d expect Wood and Barnes to be 1st choice but not entirely sure.

      Also apparently Brighton are close to signing a new striker so that could put Murray’s gametime in danger.

        JRod has looked good in pre season and may start ahead of Barnes. Murray only there for the penalties. Might change my front three to Adams, Wesley and Joelinton as I don’t trust Ings’ injury record and all three are guaranteed minutes. Adams sharp in preseason and Joelinton and Wesley are sole strikers who should hopefully get some decent returns

      Haha.. If you were here 4 weeks ago all you'd have seen would have been 5-4-1s with double everton defense and Ederson in goal :).. Things are slowly moving towards the norm though. Expect 3 4 3s or atleast 4 4 2s again with a premium forward by the season start

      I just started yesterday because I wanted a clean break from FPL for a while.

      It looks to me like FPL have priced attackers too high compared to defenders...

      More nailed, proven, differential, possibly better on baps, only RCB city have, Laporte injured and Ota crap, Zinch rotated with Angelino etc. etc.
