And he's not because (and please excuse me if I'm out of line) he doesn't see any keeper from Bou as an option. (neither do I)

Begovic isn't even 2nd choice according to Bournemouth fans and they have fixtures against free scoring teams. Avoid

      Looks good.......

Just wondered it KDB to BSilva and Digne to Coleman would get you some serious funds to get another 4.5 keeper and upgrade Townsend.

Digne to Coleman, why not. But I do not like B.Silva a FPL prospect, i personally prefer to put the extra money for KDB.

Sitting deep? Did you not watch community shield? He was constantly bombing forward into the box and often leading the line. I think he has the freedom to play box to box, whilst Rodri and D.Silva are the holding mids

was against Bernardo Silva initially, but the injury to Sane means that Sterling will likely replace him on one of the wings with Bernardo taking the other wing. aguero or jesus to be the main striker.

he'll do well for someone priced at 8m, freeing up funds to spent elsewhere, but obv you can't compare him to Sterling in terms of goals.

Who’s the best 4.5 GK and why? Considering Pope but not sure about the injury. Ryan seems to be a fan favourite. Heaton could be the Fabianski of last season in terms of save points.

Is anyone out there NOT going with TAA or Robertson?

Part of my early strategy (like many others) is trying to build team value, and I just can't see how much wiggle room there is if you have all the most expensive players at their position from GW1.

For example a team with Ederson, TAA, Robbo, Salah, Sterling, etc. kind of caps its ability to increase in value early on. Is a 7m defender really going to push 7.5/8m?

Does this come into your thinking when building your GW1 team?

        Rather simplistic view.

Having 4-5m extra to spend in the back half of the season allows you to buy better players in your January Wildcard.

Prices don't change like they used to. 3-4 years ago if a players smashed it on Saturday they'd be 0.3 up by Wednesday. Play for points and let the prices follow.

No, not really, but my ML have monthly prizes so try and go off the blocks early.

I think it’s s mine field to try and do that. The like of Perez, Robinson and Ritchie OOP and Wesley for example being an unknown quantity, is where I think gains in value could be made.

      1. ChuckN
        • 14 Years

Yeah I currently have locked in Perez/Tielemans and possibly Zinchenko who should rise to 6.5m this season if he locks down his spot. Martial and Jota are 2 others I believe will rise sharply after the first half of the season.

I guess I'm more interested to see people's opinions on max defenders. 7m for TAA is great value when compared to other positions but historically how many 8m+ defenders have there been?

I think it’s not a good idea to let value be the leading strategy at all.

I would say fit as many of the big players - Sterling, Salah, TAA etc in as you can and then fill your cheaper options up with those you think will do well.

If you get them right and they’re scoring points they’ll rise in value.

I would never pick Zouma over TAA for example because he’s 5.0 and might rise more!

      1. GoonerByron
        • 12 Years
        4 years, 7 months ago

For me, I currently have King, Perez, Zinchenko and Barkley as players I’d consider good value and underpriced so should hopefully see some big rises.

      2. ChuckN
        • 14 Years
        4 years, 7 months ago

I wouldn't say it's a leading strategy, just a consideration when comparing similar players, especially those from the same team.

The Zouma example of course not. But when you're look at VVD vs Robbo/TAA there's not much in it and less scope to lose money early on.

Another one is Zinchenko vs Laporte. Laporte is basically capped out at 6.5 but Zinchenko is a huge chance to rise 1m over the season.

Value isn't really that important tbh, over 38 game weeks a GENUINE million (i.e 101M to spend if you sell all players) is only worth something like 15 points. Assuming top tier performances the only player I can't see rising well out of those guys is ederson anyway

Ignoring it is foolish. Don't think I'd have decent ranking last few seasons without decent TV last 3rd to have greater buying flexibility

        1. ChuckN
          • 14 Years
          4 years, 7 months ago

This exactly. I was never advocating making it the PRIMARY focus/strategy, simply trying to ascertain people's thoughts on loading up on players early that are essentially "capped" in price already.

To me it feels like the 5.5m-6m defenders (AWB, Zinchenko, Luiz, Azpi) have more room to increase, whereas TAA/Robbo really only have one way to go, especially if they blank in the first 2 or 3 weeks.

Good for figuring out a player's fitness level. The manager's system. Who he might prefer.
But not form. Playing 45 minutes in money making friendlies is no indication, particularly for an established player that has nothing to prove to his coach and doesn't want to risk injury.

Fitness level, where they play, how sharp they look all plays a role in form. Maybe not the way we typically use it in season but none the less. I don't think Siggy has looked great and since form is the particular way something appears, it appears to me that he has not found form.

I had siggy in all my drafts until I saw their pre-season games. It's more likely Everton as a whole but imo he doesn't have it yet.

Really stuck on a few conundrums.

Whether to get a 4.5 GK (which one?) or Pickford.

Whether to go down the ownership route with AWB or the riskier route with Zinchenko.

Heaton was soooo good for Burnley - decent fixtures after gw1

Man City don't have the best opening fixtures, I'm considering passing on their defence all together.

      1. goriuanx
        • 13 Years
        4 years, 7 months ago

Looks like their defence is Laporte or bust.

        Cancelo and Walker at RB.
        Stones and Otamendi at RCB.
        Laporte at LCB.
Mendy (due back in training soon), Zinchenko and Angelino at LB.

When Mendy is fit, I can see Zinchenko being a back up midfield option. He changed to number 11 if that gives any indication on his medium to long term future.

        1. Pumpkinhead *non-expert*
          • 9 Years

Zinc is good for 2-3 gw while Mendy is out but West Ham away and Tot at home doesn't scream clean sheets (tho they are good enough to keep it of course) by the time I'd for sure want Man City defence coverage Zinc likely to be out so will have to pay for Laporte anyway!

Pickford should be a decent longer term option, but if you're thinking of wildcarding early it might be worth going with a 4.5 with good opening fixtures and then switching on wildcard.

I wouldn't worry about ownership personally, there are better 5.5 options than AWB imo, even if you aren't convinced with Zinchenko.

      1. goriuanx

Sterling still in most teams. Wasn't the justification for his high price from many on here that he'd start the season at centre forward and potentially be on penalties.
Sane injury and the 2 City centre forwards back sooner than anticipated have surely changed that.

You could put Carlton Cole in that City team and he'd still yield attacking returns. He just doesn't seem as appealing as he did a few days ago

He looks far better on the wing. And quite frankly, he is a poor penalty taker. I'm happy for him to reproduce last season again, with a better spread between home and away games. Otherwise you can only captain him for home games.

It's a quandary though, because I quite fancy Moura g/w1 too but he's a transfer burn.

I'll be on Rich by g/w3 probably, hopefully they can find their scoring boots soon enough.

I'd just go with Moura or Fraser if you think they are the best option. There's no need to limit your choices.

    A) Barkley + 0.5 in a 4-5-1

    B) 6.5 forward in a 4-4-2

    Lloris
    Robbo, VVD, KWP, 5.5
    Salah, KDB, Perez, Fraser, *
    Kane, *

Wilson v King doing my head in too. Wilson clear better option in my head but 1.5 can go a long long way.... does King do the job?

From those, A is closest to what I have currently (but Wesley over ings) so I’ll say that.

King without penalties would be completely ignored

Maybe not completely... still a Bournemouth striker that should be nailed with good fixtures. As I said though and as you’d likely agree, Wilson is the better player and FPL prospect, but 1.5 can go a long way

A for me, though C could be more tempting if you went for a 6.0/6.5 def over King?

2 days ago Bournemouth played with King-Wilson uptop. Wilson got 1 goal, 2 assists. King just got 1 goal. Could have easily been 2 goals 1 assist for Wilson but he passed an open goal to King (who helped win the ball from the opposition in the D, and then passed to Wilson - who then passed back).

Wilson's scoring potential seems miles ahead

Could be good, but seems a bit risky with Sheffield United having signed Mousset and McBurnie.

Is Zinchenko a bad decision? Seems the ideal cheap and easy way into the City defenders excluding Ederson, but obviously may not be nailed long term.

Better options at that pricepoint? Should I just go 3 at the back and upgrade bench players elsewhere?

He's easily the best at that price point (Man City CS, gets the odd attacking return, might be good for BPS too). There will be benchings, but only Laporte/Ederson are nailed. There's benchings with anyone else.

It really depends, but he's a short term punt till GW5 where we hope it goes well. A lot of people WC around then

Emery's update on Laca has forced me to reconsider my team. Wanted to punt on him, but ah well.
    How's this?

    Heaton
    Robertson VvD Zinchenko Coleman
    Salah Sterling Fraser Perez
    Vardy Adams

    Norris Greenwood Lundstram Dendoncker.

    0.5m ITB //

Tempted to get KdB/Pepe instead of Vardy, but cant consider seriously to play a 1 striker formation.

    Thoughts?

      Keep Vardy
Double Leicester not keen on swap Perez for alternative
      Zinch only temporary
      Like the Heaton pick

I'd probably keep it as is, simply because 1 up top would mean you have no secure starters on your bench. Could always go with Jesus as a punt if you're unsure on Vardy though?

Trossard has looked really nice. Good fixs for Brighton, on most set pieces, playing LW on 3-4-3.

I watched some highlights and he gave some similar vibes that Maddison gave when I watched Leicester preseason a year ago. A class above everyone else in that team (admittedly not a high bar for Brighton)

Tossard or go for 5.5 Mcginn and use the extra dosh elsewhere

I tried a new 3-5-2. Thoughts? If starred, means it's more price point than specific player.

    Henderson* (Button)
Van Dijk Zinchenko Targett* (Dunk* Kelly)
    Salah KdB Sterling Perez Trossard
    Wilson Haller* (Greenwood)

    Basically falls on:

    a) Trossard + a 4.5 def rotation
    b) Digne/Coleman + constant 4.5/5.0 playing def + Dendoncker

I just don't fancy Everton too much and think a rotation could work out, along with Trossard's points

I would pick about 8 Villa players ahead of Targett although he should be nailed with only Taylor backup

I mean I just want a nailed defender lol given their fixtures.

This slot might change who knows? I wanted the 4.5 (Dunk/Tarkowski) who replaces Maguire and whoever rotates best with him
